About the author

Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter, a protégé of Gustav Klimt, and a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. Schiele's body of work is noted for the intensity and the large number of self-portraits he produced. The twisted body shapes that characterize Schiele's paintings and drawings make the artist a notable exponent of Expressionism. The most important collection of Schiele's work is housed in the Leopold Museum, Vienna.

Es un libro de oportunidad y, sin embargo, a veces es mejor que la edición menor de Taschen. El texto es endeble e insiste en freudizar a Schiele; me gusta más el intento de Taschen por ligarlo con Nietzsche. En recompensa, Numen incluye más imágenes y en mayor tamaño. No obstante, aunque ofrece muchas reproducciones de lo más sórdido de Schiele, algunas de ellas tienen muy mala resolución, parecen tener una cromática distorsionada o, simplemente, el fotógrafo no supo enfocar bien la imagen. Aun así, el libro vale los 80 pesos que cuesta.
