Park and Violet

Rate this book
On her first year studying abroad, beautiful and vivacious 18-year-old Violet York is on a mission to forget her past. Once, she loved being the Queen of Flirts, loved playing hard-to-get and, eventually, getting caught. Now, she can’t get enough distance between her and all the boys in the world. Well, all the boys except for Park Jin.

Park is like no guy she’s ever met. He’s a 20-year-old Nordic god with a strange accent, or at least that’s one of Violet’s better descriptions of him. Most times, when they’re, literally, fighting like cats and dogs, she prefers to think of him as the blond gorilla, he’s a foul-mouthed jerk who calls her a banshee, a midget, and every other ugly nickname that comes to his nasty mind, goes out of his way to be rude to Violet, and, best of all, he hates girls.

Both Park and Violet carry scars in their hearts, scars that they’re desperate to hide. In each other, they find the unlikeliest allies, a way to keep themselves apart from everyone else and, more importantly, from ever falling in love again.

Yet when they’re not on each other’s throats Park and Violet can’t help succumbing to the intense chemistry between them. As kisses outnumber hisses, there’s a question that’s getting harder and harder for the two to ignore.

Is it time to risk their hearts again?

What the heck did I just read? I can't even. Seriously?

"Hey Park!"....... "What's up Park?" ....... "Park......" ....... "Park!" ....... "Hey Park!" ....... "Park......" ....... "Park?" ....... "Park!" ....... "No seriously, Park......" ....... "Park?" ....... "Park!" ....... "Park......" ....... "Park!" ....... "Park!" ....... "Please Park......" ....... "Park!" ....... "No, wait! Park!" ....... "Paaaaaaaaaark!" ....... "Paaaaaaaaark!"

and it went on and on and on and on and on and on. Literally. What the park? Are you parking kidding me?

I don't want to see the word 'Park' ever again. No. Just NO.

"Park and Violet" has all the signs of an Asian dramedy on print - from the writing, the setting, the dialogue, the characters, etc. One glaring deviation is that both characters are Caucasians, but the way they talk and act are typical of the characters in Asian dramedies. Another deviation are the steamy scenes, which you typically don't find in Asian dramedies...at least, not the ones I've seen so far.

The story is light, cute, and funny. Okay, some might think it's campy and borderline ridiculous, but for me the humor is on point and infectious; it made reading the book an overall enjoyable experience.

The characters are absolutely adorable and lovable. Violet, the female protagonist, has a unique blend of naivety and confidence; it was refreshing to see she's no shrinking violet (no pun intended). Park, the male protagonist, is the alpha Asian male (although Caucasian, he was adopted by Korean parents, after all). He has a strong stature, quiet (unless provoked by Violet), hot, moody, stoic, and relationship-phobic. Together, Violet and Park are an explosive combination.

There were a few grammatical errors; however, as an on and off Asian drama fan, this story hit the right notes for me.

No me gusto.

Okay, so before I dive in, let me start out by saying that my overall thoughts on the book are great - I mean I obviously gave it 4 stars. Hell, I would have given it 5 stars if not for a FEW minor issues I took up with it when reading. These things made me go " ohhhhhh this is gonna be goooooddddd" but then nothing e.v.e.r happened with it. It was like it was forgotten...UNTIL THE EPILOGUE...U.N.T.I.L the E.P.I.L.O.G...shit I can' remember how to spell it while trying to emphasis it...anyway, here's what it is. Don't read anymore if you don't want some type of mild spoiler.

1) You don't know it until there's a moment in the book where Park *snaps* his fingers. But he is someone special. And you are first a little thrown like...whaaaahhhhhh???? But then you're like "oh, okay, sweet....something cool is going to come from this". But it doesn't. Nope. Nothing. Nada, zilch..zero...finito...nothing.
2) Violet at times just acted plain ol' DIFFERENT. I can't even call her a bitch...or dumb. It's like literally something was mentally missing from her brain. Maybe she should be on some kind of medication? I kind of felt like I was reading a kids book when it came to her and almost wanted to cringe toward the end involving the sex scenes that were originally so mutha-f-ing hot because it just starting feeling like with her mentality it would make me perverted to get off on it. That's how much I started disliking her and thinking she be cray-cray. Like literally.
3) Also, there's the part where you find out Violet's issue with guys...and it kind of threw me in a way that when I read it (aside from Andrew himself) that I laughed. Yes, laughed out loud to actually read what she was telling Park. ONLY because it just kind of slapped me in the face. Because this was not a serious book to me. It was a fun book..then BAMN! I got dick slapped. Okay, bad choice of words. You'll see. But then, I did feel for her, just maybe the moment she came out with it should have been...I don't know...more built up with background?
4)...I said a few, didn't I????? I just felt like these two peoples backgrounds were so lacking that it left alot of unanswered and strange moments in the book. It needed more building to me to really make the book what it could have been. I mean if we just had known more, I feel like things would have played out better and this book would have easily been 5 stars.

The author did a very good job overall in writing. I like her style and the way she keeps a smooth flow from one thing to the next. I will definitely read more from her.

That's it though. See? Not too shabby. The book really is good. It's exciting and funny with them going back and forth. Park makes a great (and confusing) Alpha. Violet makes a very sweet and innocent heroin. There is some damsel in distress moments that you know I love in my books. I just wish it would have been less strange with Violet and something more would have come out of the hero's...um...thing (ya know, the finger snapping thing - hey, I'm TRYING not to spoil it here, okay?).

Ok so err, 3.5 Stars I'm thinking, purely because after reading it I have a few niggles.

This book was a spontaneous purchase for me and tbh I really enjoyed the back and forth banter. The start of the book reeled me in, I love stories that are love/hate, hate/hate, lust/hate you get my drift? Lol!

1, I felt that although the story flowed smoothly, the background to the Mc's was patchy at best. They both had severe issues yet Park's seemed to be rather unfounded and Violets could have been built up to be a major climax in the storyline, yet it was positively brushed away rather early on by Park's mysterious finger click. Nothing was mentioned again? Huh?
2, The violence, I know it is a different culture to the western way, but I really had to bite my tongue to get through the wall punching, face slapping of park, and violet and repeated bullying behaviour expressed by them both. Pulling hair, yanking eat lobes to name just a few. ( nor expressed in a sexual way either)
3, who the HELL is Park and why was it left till last minute? I don't want to throw spoilers out there but
4, some areas of the story Violet seems to regress back to middle school with her behaviour and attitude, it was utterly cringeworthy to read.

So after these points I have to say I did enjoy this book, ignoring those little niggles if only for the fact she referred to Park looking like Eric from True blood (die hard Eric Northman fangirl here!) And all the back and forth banter which I felt created a nice bit of sexual chemistry although getting a little repetitive near the end.

Solid 3.5 stars from me :)

She did it again!!

I'm soo happy.. I love Marian Tee books and well i was not dissapointed. It was hot and there is a change in the way of writing. I mean its still hot and witty and i think she's getting better!!

Park and Violet both had troubles in their love lives and both sworn off women and men respectively until they met each other. Despite himself Park found himself drawn to Violet who keep him on his toes as he does not know what to expect from her. As for Violet, she keep finding herself resisting Park charm.. But its not easy to fend off this steamy attraction.. As they found themselves melting will they realize each other worth or will they lose everything? This a story of how broken heart can be mend with a good dose of passion, trust, humor and Love.. Hmm not to forget the hot scenes my favorite is the kissing booth..

I also like the japanese setting and i would love to know more about her sister..

This book wasn't written very well - choppy and confusing to read. The storyline was different - Park and Violet meet in Osaka Japan where they are attending college. She's from Florida and he's a Caucasian who was adopted by a rich Korean family. They each have issues and, even though they don't like each other, fall into a "friends with benefits" relationship that morphs into something else.
I would have given this book 4 stars if it hadn't been full of what a lot of people consider acceptable abuse. I have a huge problem with those who think it's okay for a female to be physically abusive towards a male. In this case it was things like throwing her shoes at his head, stomping on his foot while wearing heels, pulling his hair, kicking him in the shin and other stuff. If it were a guy doing that to a girl more people would have a problem with it but I think it's just as bad when it's a girl doing it.

WOW!! What an amazing read from Marian Tee. I've been waiting what seems like forever for this to be published and she did not disappoint. The chemistry between the two lead characters was steamy and the back and forth bickering only made it hotter. The way the relationship developed between Park and Violet and the struggles they had to overcome in themselves to move on to be with each other was great to read about. Also, Park standing up and totally kicking a** on Violets behalf was one of the moments that made me fall more in love with this character. Even though it was short it was a great read and I hope well see more of Park and Violet or the other characters like Kim in future books by Marian. Of course that's after she release When I Moan and all the other great books she's writing now.

THIS REMINDED ME OF A SITUATION COMEDY MOVIE, IT WAS VERY FUNNY, SEXXY, ROMANTIC, AND DIFFERENT. I FOUND IT VERY ENJOYABLE EVEN THOUGH IT DID GET KINDA SILLY NEAR HE END, WAS A LITTLE DRAGGED OUT ALSO. THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE WAS THE BOOK COVER, WHICH DID NOT FIT THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK. THE MAIN MALE LEAD WAS BLOND A NORDIC BIG THOR LOOKING GUY. THE GUY ON THE COVER MADE ME THINK OH HELL NO! CUTE READ THOUGH. ;D

Voilet was the worst heroine in any book I have ever read. She has the mentality of a 5 year old. Stomping her foot, pulling hair, kicking shins. Then to top it off she is an pouting tease. When 5 year old behavior doesn't get what she wants, she throws herself at any man possible. I read this all the way through thinking she would grow/mature....but no, she was an idiot until the end.

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to after seeing a few reviews. It wasn't as bad as others made it seem. Park and Violet were two very unique characters and as another reviewer said, the type of behavior from the main characters is exactly what you'll find in any kind of Asian drama series. It's very normal and I wasn't bothered by it at all, I was very much amused by it for the most part because the playing field was balanced. Usually it's the guy always getting under the girl's skin and that is something that would normally bother me, but Violet was refreshing because she held her own and even showed him up several times which was a nice change. I loved her confidence, her take no crap attitude, her self-esteem, her quick ability to recover from anything, and her honesty. Park was harder to like right away and he doesn't really have any outstanding qualities I can praise him for, but by the end I could tolerate him and that's as good as I can offer.

I did like how Violet originally made him work to get back in her good graces and show that he couldn't just say anything he wanted without consequences. Regarding the part where he said something hurtful about her in Korean that he shouldn't have said, I liked that she showed her vulnerability and maturity and that she was serious when he went too far that time. It was a different side of her we hadn't seen before and I think that would have been much better off as the final straw for her because he made real efforts to apologize, to show he was sorry, and tried to make it up to her. This was one of the best grovels I've ever seen from a man who knew he did wrong. I wish the author had utilized that as their big conflict and ended their story there. I felt like everything that came after that was just filler to extend the story and weak compared to that part of the book where he did some major growing as a person. I was expecting it to end shortly after that but it kept going and just repeating the same pattern with them which got old real quick.

Because of that, I felt like they were just going around in circles, her accepting their non-label relationship, hoping he'd open his eyes, and him trying to keep lying to himself. I didn't care for the ending with how Park finally admitted he loved her. I felt let down, cheated, conned, bamboozled , disappointed, and any other term you can think of when a character still had to be pushed and prodded to admit their love for someone. I was waiting for his moment when he stopped lying to himself and HE took the initiative for once to get up and go after her before it was too late but it never happened. Nope, she was still the one to seek him out in the end and give him one more chance to be honest with her and tell her he loved her. He was the one in the book who refused to admit his feelings for her were deeper and needed to realize he had to stop being a coward but it was still her who did all the work and he reaped the benefits.

The book as a whole was great but all of the late back and forth and making each other jealous was annoying and unnecessary. Park's refusal to let her in his heart without being coerced into it really killed everything else for me and I'd rather not go through this whirlwind again. Once was enough for me. This could have been amazing had the author not dragged out the book to make it longer or if she'd given Park some growth with conquering his fear of loving and being hurt again. If she ever rewrites this and reworks the story and its ending, I'll gladly read an improved version of this, but until then...pass.

Nordic-Korean-gorilla-asshole. Seriously! She would never lack for words to describe just how much of a jerk this guy was!

This is now the second book I have read from this author and yup-TOTAL FAN!! While I did like ‘Nick and Lilac’ a bit more, I still loved ‘Park and Violet’.

Park glanced at the girl again and saw her scowling at him. It was such a refreshing sight Park actually became even more aroused by it. What the fuck was happening? It was like he had gotten into a special Twilight Zone episode spoofed by Porn Tube.

Park & Violet are both attending Uni abroad in Japan. Both, for very different reasons, want nothing to do with the opposite sex, both have been hurt in the past. And while they can’t deny they find the other attractive, it’s clear from their first meeting that a very rough read lays ahead.

“If I had a choice, I would never ask a Yeti like you!”
Park felt himself turning red. He couldn’t remember being this mad at a girl. “You’re calling me a fucking Yeti?”
“The shoe totally fits, don’t you think? White, monstrously ugly, beast-like creature-like I said: Yeti,” she said sweetly.
Temper officially riled, Park spat, “And what about you? You’re like a fucking banshee with all that shrill noise your mouth’s making!”
Violet’s jaw dropped at his words. “I do not sound like a banshee!” she said in what she knew would come out in a shrill voice but unable to help it. How could a human being be this…this much of a jerk?
His sneer made her itch to slap it off his face, and his next words just made her want to kill him. “Care to say that less shrilly next time?”

They form a friendship of sorts at the insistence of Violet, mainly because she needs help finding her way around, but more often than not they end up fighting. I’m talking screaming, name calling, hair pulling, fighting. It was actually kinda funny Lol

Violet actually stomped her foot in frustration and anger. God, he was such an obnoxious jerk!

Through all the fighting, their chemistry eventually combusts-big time. They see no problem in indulging in a little “harmless flirting” knowing it won’t go any further than that…til Violet starts to develop feelings Park has no intention of returning. Enter massive amounts of drama and angst, lucky for me-I LOVE that shit!! I have to say though; Park really did get on my nerves towards the end. Denial thy name is Park, this guy brings all new meaning to the word stubborn….seriously. I actually felt really bad for Violet. Even though they got their HEA, she practically had to beg for it. His happiness at that point seemed completely undeserved. All in all, a funny as hell, angsty and sexy as sin read. Looking forward to much much more from this author and this series.

TAN JODIDAMENTE KAWAAAII.

description

DIOS. DIOS. DIOS.

DIOS, TE ODIO.

description

Ok, ok, calmemonos, Park me pone demasiado, ah.

description

A friend on Goodreads said Marian Tee's books are the cute fluff kind, and I agree now. I read this after Nick and Lilac which I adored. That book gave me the little smiley faces while Park and Violet made me laugh out loud many, many times.

Now both books aren't deep or thought-provoking and while I normally HATE shallow books and give them 1-star ratings almost all the time, the relationship in this book felt so natural and real that I couldn't help but love it. This is the classic case of friends with benefits who both shunned love out of their lives but of course, unexpectedly they found it with each other. I love this kind of set-up and having Park and Violet not fall in love even with "harmless flirtations" is a breathe of fresh air. This is the kind of set-up that I look for when a book promises friends to lovers, but almost always they skip the part where the leads are still falling in love and feelings get things messy and confusing, or worse, when the lead characters are strangers turned to lovers, with big declarations of true love that feel too fictitious for my taste. Watching Park and Violet fall in love and fight their feelings doesn't feel forced for the sake of fiction, and that I appreciate.

Park and Violet took place in Japan, and the funny thing is I kept imagining it as a book adaptation of a Japanese/Korean drama. If you've seen some romantic comedies or just the typical high school/college Jdrama, you'll know what I'm talking about when I say Park and Violet is all cute fluff.

Also, who can't resist when a hero calls the heroine "banshee", and the heroine calls the hero "Asian freaking Yeti"? Definitely not me and my inner kid.

Park is just so damn hot, "scowling, he got up and not bothering to wear anything over his boxers this time, he went straight to the door to open it." I mean he has the right idea on how to shut someone up kiss them, "good way to shut women up, I always thought," was all he said." He's snarky, "what are you doing here then? I'm from Korea, if you haven't noticed. I won't be able to help you reminisce about your country because I don't know anything about your country." I mean he's really rude at times, "so? What the eff do you want then? That I say goodbye to you before you go to school or give you allowance or something? I'm not your dad." But then he's just so damn hot, "yes, baby, I know." And then he tore off her panties." Then he goes back to being an a** I'm serious the boy gives you whiplash, "do you think I'm effing anyone else?" he half-snarled. "Of course it's true. Now will you stop pulling on my sleeve?" He gets possessive, "Park slowly sat back, relaxing at the speed with which Violet had withdrawn from the other man's touch. Didn't that effing idiot know Violet belonged to him?" I mean really possessive, "you are mine. So until I make effing sense of that, don't do anything that would get me into a brawl. Because I will kill anyone who so much as looks at you the wrong effing way." Yea, I liked this story.

I received this book for an honest opinion.
I loved this book. I loved that it was set in Japan.

Park is a 20 year old Nordic God, who is adopted into a wealthy Japanese family. He meets Violet an American student who has literary just landed and cant find her apartment, so knocks or bangs hard on Parks door to ask for help. At first they trade insults to each other, but he goes along with what she wants because she doesn't want anything more from him.... or does she. When Violets ex boyfriend shows up unexpected things change.

I loved everything about this book. I like the interaction between Park and Violet from the beginning they make me laugh, then when things change between them its a natural progression. I LOVED the fact this was set in Japan, the way Marian describes the place and people make you see what she is telling in the story. I couldn't put this down and the only thing I didn't like was it had finished.

Thanks Marian another fantastic book

4 stars!

The main thing that made this book worth-while was the hilarious banter between Park and Violet. The had a love/hate relationship and the way the constantly fought was just so funny! It was quite easy to fall in love with these two characters. Their personalities are different than what I usually read...they are both SO confident in themselves...they know they look good, they know people want them and aren't ashamed to show it.

I didn't like the conclusion to this book. It wrapped up so quickly and way too easily. I kinda felt jibbed of a good ending. It did have a HEA but not quite the way I wanted it to go.

But overall, a fun, quick read!

What the hell did I just read???? Seriously???

OK, first I hated Violet because she was such a spoiled little brat.....she actually makes the guy put his foot so she can stomp on it while shes having a tantrum and the moron obliges her!!!! WTF? And what the hell did she really achieve by going under the table at the carnival??? She just proved that shes a bigger ho!

Now Park..... God this bit was painful, the dude is of Scandinavian heritage but speaks in a Korean accent....not wrong with that per say but its just like someone singing "Baa Baa black sheep" to the tune of Shaba Ranks.....Again WTF??? Doesnt make sense.

Dont waste your time, just a load of bollocks really!

I loved the love/hate relationship between Park & Violet. The book moved at just the right pace for me; I felt like their love/relationship moved at a natural pace. The back and forth and internal struggles kept me on my toes! I would have loved for the events in the epilogue to occur sooner and then we could've seen more into their future.

I didnt think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. While Park's commitment issues bugged the crap out of me I loved seeing the development in Park and Violet. I do wish there was a little more between the last chapter and the epiloge and maybe a little more about the lives they lived after the end of the book... but thats jusy me
