Fantastic book that ALL PNR lovers should read!! It absolutely had a bit of everything in it.
Get comfy with your beverage of choice, settle back against some pillows or your fav chair, and add a fire if it's cold enough. Then chill yourself out, forget about all else and just READ, for hours on end. Let go and ENJOY! It was totally amazing guys, it really was.
Ladies and Gents I welcome you to the Myths and Legends Casino Resort where everything is not what it seems where magic is real and this where the fun begins. 5 Dragon ★★★★★
DO NOT BE PUT OFF BY THE FIRST SCENE THEY USUALLY ARE THE BEST BOOKS!!!
Serafina receives an invitation to a dance audition, packs her bags and leaves for the Myths and Legends Casino Resort. She gets the job and her life is turned upside down.
Donovan "Dragon" Drake is the leader of the United Clans and The Dragon King. His Dragon has been locked up for a very long time. Claire the resident psychic had a vision a long time ago that Dragon would find his mate and all the clans would be saved as they were cursed by Travoli.
The Phoenix Prophecy. I loved reading this book it was so much fun. It is from a dual POV my problem was that I didn't concentrate as much as I should have and got confused who was doing the telling. The other characters in the book are amazing and I already have my eye on the second book. Enjoy peeps it really is worth it.
I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.
Firstly I would like to thank Stacie Simpson, author of Releasing the Dragon, for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this book.
The concept of a beast sharing a person's soul is what drew me into this story. It's a fresh and unusual concept which made the story intriguing and exciting as well.
Seraphina is an awesome female lead and I loved the way she carried herself through out the story. Watching her character develop with every progressing chapter really was a treat.
Dragon is great and desirable with his sexy looks and killing attitude. The chemistry and steamy encounters between the two is a treat to experience.
The way the story is written in a descriptive manner is really great and it brought out the myths to the readers in a bunch of skilled words which made it more and more fascinating.
The plot was well planned and the characters totally fit into it reaching the hearts of the readers and gripping their interest from the very first, a total page turner with lots of twists and turns that will leave you surprised.
All in all a great read and ya all must give it a shot and hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.
It's hard for me to believe that this book has gotten an average of over four stars. I'm genuinely sorry that Stacy Simpson went the self-publishing route as she would have greatly benefited from the direction of a good editor. Incorrect word usage (the most egregious was when she used "splattering" when she meant "smattering"), numerous punctuation errors, and interminable dialogue info dumps place the author in the unfortunate "tell, don't show" category.
I'm guessing her popularity comes from the really outstanding supernatural world she's created, one with layer upon layer of vampire, shifter, and demon, each with a complex history and rife with political machinations. It's the only thing that kept my interest and the single reason I plan to give the next book in the series a try before giving up.
Be warned, the first person switch between the two main characters is jarring (and made more so because Simpson doesn't know how to maintain a consistent verb tense) and she also has two vivid rapes in the story, one actually of the heroine which we are supposed to recover from because one of the characters is able to go back in time to prevent it from occurring.
Releasing the Dragon is the love story between a human dancer and a shapeshifting vampire who has been curse. So you might say it’s the erotic twisted version of beauty and the beast. That’s as much I will reveal if you want spoiler see below. All I can say is that it’s a great steamy, sexy story that will have you chasing your sexy neighbor. ;)
We are introduced to the story and the protagonist in the middle of a dance club orgy where the patrons are allowed to unleash all of their desires. I was hooked… from here the story develops similar to beauty and the beast. I beautiful woman comes into the castle of a curse beast, and only she can freed him. I found the new erotic and were twist exhilarating. We learned that Donovan Drake is a were-dragon/vampire who was curse by an evil Vampire to keep his dragon asleep and only Sarafina can break it. The how and when something is they do not know.
Sarafina is caught up in a world of mystical creatures and is completely head-over-heals of the stranger she just met. We also learn that Dragon’s (Drake) father was betrayed by his best friend. Which in term makes us see traitors everywhere at one point when Solomon asks Sarafina to join him as a dancer in The Gateway, specifically to be the main dancer during the Garreks’s wedding; I was sure that he was a traitor. Then I was sure I couldn’t trust Scarlet, she was so jealous and appeared to have a vindictive personality. I was sure Garrek was also a traitor, it was not until he was killed that my suspicion ended. I love how the author was able to make me suspect of everyone except for the actual traitors. The traitors ended up being Clarrisa who I never suspected of. Ivanna I had some inkling on, but that was only since I thought she was helping Garrek to initiate a war. WOW was I wrong.
The only part I was some what disappointed on was when Serafina was in mortal danger with Travali why didn’t Rook go back far enough in time to avoid Travali taking Serafina in the first place. I understand that the current world does not have enough magic for him to travel like before, but Dragon also stated that if he had a conduit he could do what ever he wanted. Angela served as his conduit and yet he only chose to travel a couple of minutes; why? I would have been happy if they had explained that Clarise only wanted him to go back to a certain point. I would have even been satisfied if they said their union was not strong enough, but no, there was no explanation. I also wonder why Rook didn’t have Dragon modify Angela’s daughter’s mind to remove all her drug addiction and unhealthy behavior. If Angela is Rooks “mate” he would want her to be happy and Dragon would have complied. All and all it was a great book that left me satisfy and waiting for more.
This story will take you inside a world of fantasy, well, fantasy for the human population anyway.
The casino resort of Myths and Legends makes for the perfect place to find a great romance, jealousy, secret plots, and danger no one realizes is there.
Serafina is the kind of woman that has worked hard to get where she is, she is also a woman that has the fortitude to be able to handle things others might find very difficult. She is strong, courageous and beautiful, and her life is about to change forever.
Dragon is king he also owns Myths and Legends. Along with everyone the has sworn an oath to him, he is dealing with a problem that has gone on for the last century. When he meets Serafina, any problems that he's had take a back seat.
This story takes you on a journey that you can all most swear that your right there with the characters. The characters are funny, exude lethality, and sex appeal. There are many times that you might find yourself yelling to let them know what's going on. I know that sounds absurd, but I did it, so I'm hoping someone else might as well.
This is a wonderful paranormal fantasy and I highly recommend reading it.
3.5* actually. At the first chapter , my initial thought we :" Oh-oh, this is going to be just a hump-fest". Luckily, the book then settled in to something which was an enjoyable read with a decent characters and storyline. However, one particular things about this book were driving me batty - the constantly changing 1-st person POW narration was giving me a whiplash not to mention it was often confusing trying to figure out who is talking and for me was badly interrupting the flow of the story. The other thing that I found tiresome is that the characters often speak in LONG monologues that ended up feeling more like lectures , not conversations. Interestingly enough, for something that is tagged as erotica, in comparison to other books of the genre, the language of the book can be considered demure. A very decent effort by a new author.
I'm not sure who is writing these reviews but this book is no where near the 4.12 average score provided. The start of the book is absolutely terrible. Getting grinded on and having someone sucking on your nipples is not the best start especially when said character constantly refers to not being into one night stands. There were parts where things were discussed between the characters that we're not disclosed earlier in the book. Some of the absolute BS that comes out of dragons mouth is ridiculous, verging on trying to be romantic, kinky and a too over the top. Serafina then starts referring to dating when all they have done so far is grope each other. This was only in the first few chapters and I therefore stopped reading.
Sexy Male Leads Shapeshifters Vampires Nightshifters Magic Casinos Demons Night Clubs and a Prophecy that is about to come true.
This book was on the erotic side of romance and had some intense moments but there was a story behind all of the heat and steaminess that makes the book much more than some trashy romance novel (and there's nothing wrong with trashy romance novels but this happens to not be one of them).
It was a fun read. It kept me hooked to my kindle through the night.
Vampires, Shapeshifters, and Dragons oh my.... First in a series of shapeshifter/vampire and other world-lies that will keep you entertained. Very well written with an interesting plot and story line. Great for anyone who likes vampires, shapeshifters, and especially dragons mixed with graphic sex scenes, betrayal, and revenge, romance and a prophecy fulfilled; readers 18+ will enjoy a smooth paced novel with plenty of elements and layers. I'm looking forward to the next novel. ~A.S. Johnson, author
This book kept my interest with a storyline that had me thinking maybe there are mythical creatures after all. It was definitely an escape from reality with a dancer who was soooo good but doesn't get discovered until she is 27, insta-love and pheromones that make you instantly want sex...yeah right.
Overall it was good with a few spelling and grammar mistakes. Will be reading more in this series.
Loved this book. Reread 12-17-16 the Night before I reread this I got a thought in my head that I wanted to reread it but I couldn't remember the name of the books so I want to search my goodread and I was so glad I found it. I enjoyed this book the last time i read it in 2014 and I have to say it was no different this time around.
Dragons are hot! The world worked it was plausible I mean were else could the supernatural hide in plain sight but the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. This was a very nice start to the series. I was impressed at the creativity of combine the different myths together. I cannot wait to read the next book.
Just finished reading this for the second time, something I don't do often. It was such a joy to read a well-written book without the jarring that comes from typos in the story. This had a pleasing length that kept me reading. Good interactions between characters takes time to develop. Thank you for the pleasure of this story.
Nope. Couldn't do it. The storyline had an idea that, in the right hands, could have been interesting but sadly the writing was literally some of the worst I have ever read. The dialogue was painful and every character - male or female - had the exact same voice. There was absolutely nothing good about this book. I tried so hard to get through it, but after 30% I had to give up the ghost. DNF
I enjoyed this book from start to finish, and read in one sitting. I was totally immeresed from the start, how do authors do it, making a world co-exisit within our's and still make it believable. Would read more from this author
I really loved this book. It had a very exciting twist to the plot. It was definitely a page turner for me. I bought the 2nd book, because I couldn't resist knowing what would happen next in this erotic thriller.
I rated this book a five because I couldn't wait to read the next chapters and it made me look for e sequel before I had even finished. I love the intensity of love and loyalty these characters share.
Releasing The Dragon was one of the best Shifter romances I have read in a while. Mix a dragon/vampire King with a fully human dancer, add in a casino full of mythological beings and you get passion, humor, and the potential for a really great series.
Wonderful book. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The scenes were described so well,it felt like I was there. I would love to see one of Solomons shows for myself. I say great job on this one.
Myths and Legends is a safe haven casino for the supernatural but also a vacation spot for humans. It is where the King Dragon resides, living day to day and taking care of those who are loyal to him. His agenda for the last 400 plus years, keeping there secret safe and battling Claire, his psychic mother, about him not loosing faith that one day he will find his mate and break the curse. The curse from a great battle.
With every curse comes a prophecy. A way to end the torment of those who fought with the King Dragon, a way to break free the trapped spirit within them all.
Night and day waging war, bitter enemies evermore. Fierce and loyal, the day is strong. Broken oaths, so much goes wrong. Magic speaks to all hearts bound. Trapped in slumber until she's found. When two are joined the spell will break. One by one their souls awake. Hate takes over, vengeance sworn. And from the flames new life is born.
The element of dangers not only depends on their mating but also on the curse, for those who are enemies of the Dragon King. The Dragon Queen's safety is peril for she is the one to save them all.
Myths and Legends! The name of the series but it is so much more, it is the setting of a magical place. A place where Serafina Leroux never imagine and a place where Donovan "Dragon" Drake only hoped to one day find her.
The moment I stepped into Mystique, I felt an exhilarating sensation rush through my body. It was lust in its purest form, no thoughts or feelings, just a physical craving for carnal pleasure. The craving had been strongest near the entrance but lessened when I climbed the stairs to the upper level. Now, as I drifted down the spiral staircase leading to the dance floor, waves of desire crashed over me, threatening to pull me under with every step I took. I didn't understand what was happening to me, but I knew I wanted to feel more of the sinful heat building inside me.
I truly enjoyed the chemistry and burst between Donovan and Serafina. Not just the physical but the emotional bound they shared before their first kiss. It is that type of fairy tale that all wish for, that connection of knowing someone for a lifetime and yet still take pleasure in their company. Serafina never imagined that she would find someone so quick and Donovan couldn't believe after waiting so long she had arrived.
The build up and there mating felt a little rushed but I understood the need for it, Donovan needed it more then his next breath but also because once he recognized her as his, her life would never truly be safe until she had the protection of a full mating mark.
The added element of danger on Serafina was nice, too many times we read novels when the female is always protected and nothing can ever touch her or hurt her or really be used against the male counterpart. Simpson took that plunge and use Serafina against him - on multiple occasions. At first I felt taken back, how can he not protect his mate and let all these bad things happen but then I appreciated that situation because that cannot always be the case. The male counter part is not perfect. And that is what makes this a perfect romance. The trials they must go through and fix to have the happy ending is worth the effort.
Not only do Serafina and Donovan bring pleasure to the pages! But the secondary characters bring amusement as well. Not many authors bring them alive in the first book of a series but Simpson does an amazing job. I cannot wait to read each and everyone of the stories to follow.
If you want to hide in plain sight what better a place than a city, in the vast network of night clubs and casinos. An entire supernatural world exists among us, in supernatural enclaves hidden within the human world. Releasing the Dragon introduces us to The Myths and Legends Casino Resort on the Mississippi Gulf Coast which is more than it appears, carefully hidden under the guise of a nightclub is actually a haven for shapeshifters, vampires and demons.
Releasing the Dragon introduces us to a world where vampires, shapeshifters, demons and things that go bump in the night exist. Reminiscent of the world of Jeaniene Frost‘s Night Huntress series Stacie Simpson has written an entertaining paranormal. Serafina Leroux has always dreamed of dancing professionally and that wish is just a hair’s breadth away. Little does she know that the reason that she has been brought to the Mississippi Gulf Coast is to fulfill her part in an ancient prophesy to break the curse laid on the Dragon King.
Donovan Drake abandoned his search for the Phoenix destined to release him from the centuries old curse. His people live in an uneasy truce with the vampires who trapped their animal counterparts yet the Dragon who lies dormant within him stirs at the sight of Serafina. The connection between Donovan and Serafina is instantaneous and undeniable. Is it possible that she is the prophesied Phoenix? Savior of his people and his mate.
I haven't been in the mood for a paranormal book lately but something about this one called to me. I am really glad I read it instead of letting it languish on my TBR list. Dragon is King of the Dragons and King over the shape shifters but an evil curse has deprived them all of the ability to shift. Serafina is a human, who gets an unsolicited invitation to audition as a dancer at the Myths and Legends Casino owned by Dragon. She does not realize that humans aren't ever allowed be part of the dance crews. Dragon is not happy when he realizes that the resident psychic sent the invitation but is willing to let it play out. Then his dragon, asleep for 400 years, lets him know that this little human is his mate. A mate that prophecy says will break the curse for all the night shifters. I liked the myth building done for this book. It was like a story within a story. Dragon was a strong alpha male Hero, with a lot riding on his shoulders. Serafina was perfect for him. It took her a bit to get on board the program but given the circumstances, an understandable reaction. The supporting characters were interesting and funny at times. Rook sounded just as hot as Dragon and extremely interesting. I am really looking forward to reading his story in the next book in the series.
First, I am so excited to read a story set in my stomping grounds! The MS Gulf Coast. I can say I wish this resort truly existed among our other casinos. Book 1 of a series, this tale sets the background for potential infinite stories. ShapeShifters and vampires, demons and magic with portals to other worlds makes the options innumerable. I fell in love with the hero, Donovan Dragon. His mother is a trip! Rook is awesome. And ooh, Travali deserves everything bad that we can wish on him! Dragon is a typical strong alpha leader. He gets a strong woman for his soul mate in Serafina. I was worried for a minute that she was going to hem and haw and be one of those stupid females who has to analyze every single thing about a guy and a love at first site situation to death, but she was redeemed quickly. That type of heroine wears my eyeballs out! Half way through the book, I went to Amazon.com to see if there were more books. Paint me surprised that I didn't realize this book came out in 2013 and the second and third books are available too. I bought the Kindle versions immediately! And oh how I wish I'd had that portal to New Orleans all those times we drove the 90 miles to party on Bourbon St.!!
the first half or so was about 2 1/2 stars and the last half was 3 to 3 1/2 stars. I liked the characters and the story had potential, and got better, but took to long to get going. This is the first book in the series and is about Donovan (Dragon) and Serafina. Some good twists in the second part of the book, and some action. The spelling is fine, but way to many commas missing. We've all seen the joke on Facebook where the comma changes the whole meaning of the sentence. It's easy to get the jist of the meaning, but you should be able to just read and not have to do the sentence structure in your head while your reading to get the real meaning. At times I felt like I missed something, a little choppy. I liked the different point of views, just wished it was done with a little warning at the beginning of the chapter (ex. - Chapter 8 Donovan, Chapter 9 Serafina), because I found myself stopping and asking why the character would do or say that, then I realize it's not them it's someone else.
I'll read the next book. I want to see what happens with Rook, who the next book is about.
Not the best romance book but its a pretty cool read. It goes a little further than standard 'romance' books that are usually the same thing just different books, but this actually tries to go further than romance and actually have a fantasy story with vampires, demons and shapeshifters in. I like it for the fact that the main characters are pretty good characters, the female is a little annoying but she is still nice by the end. The start it is a little annoying reading from her point of view but it does make sense in the end and I did end up really liking her character, and her and dragon together.
Dragon is a fierce hunky guy that seems to have no short of female attention and lovers while not committing to anybody. I love the fact that he just cannot stay away from her from the get go and in the end just doesn't fight it.
Overall enjoyable adult fantasy book with enough romance in to satisfy my romance bug, only complaint was it did drag at about 30% to maybe 60%, and I nearly gave up.
This was such an epic beginning to this series. I loved the multi-layered aspect of the book. So many stories being told, the legends, the lore - a lot of it. Some newly created and pretty freaking sweet. There's always the love story, and this book is no different. This story is the same, yet different. Donovan and Serafina have an attraction to each other that can't be denied. The only difference between this story and the others is what Stacie put there - the fact that their beasts have been sleeping for hundreds of years because of a curse, and more. It's such a unique twist on all of the legends and lore that's out there. I really don;t want to go further into the story because you really should read it, it's so worth it. I've just seen that the second book is out, and have to have it. I need more of this, it's soooo good.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
If I could give this book 10 stars I would. This book has everything you could possibly want in a paranormal book. It has vampires, dragons, humans, shifters, murder, mayhem and mystery.
Serafina Leroux wants to be a professional dancer. She receives a mysterious invite to audition at Myths and Legends. She gets the job, meets the owner Donovan Drake and falls head over heels in love with him. What she doesn't know is that Drake is not human and that almost everyone in Myths and Legends is some sort of paranormal.
When Drake and Serafina get together a spell is broken that has held the paranormals and now someone wants her dead. There are attempts made on her life, challenges to the death, bombs, etc.
I have to say there is so much in this book that keeps you entertained, wanting more, needing more that I ordered and started reading the second book. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give this book a try if you enjoy one of or all of the things listed above.
When I picked this book to read I had no idea that I would be so engrossed in reading it. I have actually read this book more than one time. I love this book and I think that anybody who reads it will love it. If I could give this book a rating of 100 stars I would.
Serafina Leroux receives an invitation to audition for a dance club in the Myths and Legends Casino Resort. Little did she know that her auditon was the result of a vision by the mother of man she is destined to meet.
Donavon Drake is the owner of Myths and Legends. He sees Serafina dancing in one of his night clubs and decides that he has to have her. He does not know until he sleeps with her that she is his destined mate.
A must read book. You are taken into the world of vampires, night shifters of various types, murder and mind boggling sex. Once you start reading it you will not put it down until you are finished with it.
