If you like tales of women over forty finding themselves, humor in the face of adversity, and the little guy fighting back then you’ll love JB Lassalle’s dive into magical mayhem.Get swept away by the tide of adventure in Bridge Over Shifting Water- a mermaid tale that's gone off the deep end
Jen Lassalle is a writer of paranormal women's fiction and midlife fantasy fiction under the pen name JB Lassalle. She likes strong females who are more than just a bit awkward, dimensional males who roll with the punches, and found family friendships that triumph over nuanced bad guys you love to hate.
Jen is a New Orleans resident. The city, and the surrounding areas, serve as a rich backdrop for a world where magic exists and mystical creatures are not only real, but live among us.
When Jen isn’t writing, she’s hanging with her family and friends at a local park or coffee shop. She likes working out, which is kind of weird, loves yoga, and plays video games. Of course, she reads.
Jen and her husband have two kids. One is an avid competitive swimmer (which sucks up all their weekend time). The other is a daydreamer like Jen who plays the Mega Man theme on his guitar and binge watches Stranger Things.
Bridge Over Shifting Water is the third short story in the Murky Midlife Waters series. Misty Ledoux grew up in Treater’s Way only to leave when she was twelve, after her mother left Misty and her father. She finally returns to Treater’s Way and her long-suppressed magical legacy bubbles to the surface.
Misty is now facing the loss of her magic. She’s losing time to get the island restored to its natural splendor. Customers have all but dried up. She also has the hard decision of staying on land or succumbing to her siren song.
Bridge Over Shifting Water is a fantastic paranormal novella. I loved the characters and the setting. As someone in her late-forties, I enjoyed this middle-aged paranormal women’s fiction story.
I really enjoyed the author's writing style, the pacing of the novella, and the way the story is developed. I’m intrigued by Misty’s life, her friends, the townsfolk, her aunt, and the B&B. I can’t wait to see where the author takes Misty. Welcome to Treater’s Way, where nothing is what it seems.
We all have a purpose to fulfill… …just grant us the patience we need until we receive the wisdom of what it is we are supposed to do! Healing takes work and work takes time. Reflection, crying, sleeping in, drinking, more reflection, throwing things, more crying… That’s when we can begin the hard stuff of analyzing, categorizing, discarding & downsizing, making whatever changes are necessary to leave our cocoons as the beautiful butterflies that we are. Or, you could just dive off the bridge knowing that your tail will follow.
In addition to a breakfast burrito and my latte macchiato, I am in sore need of a waystation in order to process out some next steps.
Next in series are the upcoming ‘Bridge Over Spooky Water’ (October) and ‘Bridge Over Seasoned Water’ (November).
Bridge Over Shifting Water is Book 3 in the Murky Midlife Water by J B Lassalle. Although I felt that the author left the story open for another story; and, they did an outstanding job of resolving all loose ends and gave me a satisfying ending. Misty is fighting to replace the bridge while Lucas is working that destroy everything and everyone Misty loves. I think that you can enjoy these books as stand alones, but, I feel that these books are one complete story when read in order. I loved the ending and I can't wait to read another book by this author. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
When I first started reading this, I didn’t realize it was a short story in a series and as I completed the story, I was a little irritated that it felt like the book was ending right as the story was really taking off. Kind of like a cliffhanger in the season finale of your favorite show. But once I read the series as a whole, I REALLY enjoyed this story. Please read it expecting to get the other two books. If you’re anything like me, you will not be disappointed you did. I am hoping for/looking forward to more to come in the series.

This is the third in the Midlife Murky Waters Series. I love these novellas, they are perfect for an afternoon or evening read.
I love the setting of Treater's Way, and the whole mermaid thing is fantastic too. In this book Misty is faced with time running out to restore the island, and also the loss of her magic. Her siren song is pulling her to leave the land, and she's contending with her divorce.
Misty is a middle-aged main character, and these books are so much better for it. It's so nice to read about a main character with some life experience and more complex situations.

Sometimes we have to leave home and return to find it again. So when Misty has to return home, due to a public and ugly divorce in process, it is not what she remembered. She rediscovers her adored aunt, childhood best friend and a host of adored friends old and new, some forgotten and some found and some discovered but all very much needed for the battle to come.
Of course it has been 30ish years since she has been there. But Misty rediscovers much about herself and the tiny town and her home and its magic and it’s quite the surprising journey and an absolutely worthwhile read
This is an interesting series of 5 books. There are essentially novellas at 85 to about 100 pages. (could be combined into 2 or 3 books. Some fun characters and situations. I enjoyed these books
