Book 8 of the award-winning Young Adult adventure series!

200 years ago, the Brothers Grimm brought their stories to life.

But why? The question has haunted the heroes for two centuries, and no one has come close to the truth. Alice Goodenough will learn the terrible truth. And it will come at a terrible cost.

The fencing tournament is in just a few short days. Alice's team is hopelessly outmatched, facing off against fencers who have more experience and an inhuman amount of energy. But the other fencers also have a special drug, one that Alice's team can use to even the playing field. Whether they should take the drug or not threatens to tear the team apart.

Meanwhile, Alice must live up to her agreement with Sam Grayle, who lusts after a hidden treasure that once belonged to the Corrupted. Alice must team up with a group of explorers and delve deep into a forbidden cave that holds more secrets than any of them expected.

These stories are evolving nicely.
They break away from YA cliches.
The characters are very likeable and the fairy tale twists are very inventive.

Sorry to say I found myself skimming a lot of this episode. I just didn't care for the way events played out, how some of the characters were handled (with some meh tropes), a lot of sports drama, and felt totally lost by the fairy tale parts. I struggled to finish it. Maybe this series has gone on too long to hold my attention, but it to me it seemed to have lost some of it's fun.

I loved reading about Alice's adventures with Rapunzel and the 12 dancing princesses. I really like Briar although I felt he took a bit of a backseat in this book. I hope to see him more in the rest of the books.

This series just gets better and better! I love the way that fairy tales characters are not the good guys, but the Corrupted. It is fun to see the different interpretation in each book. I am loving the way the series is going. My heart broke for Alice at the end.

Alice has really grown on me as a character. She is the heroine to help fight against the Corrupted and destroy the Grimm Fairy tales. In this book, Alice has her fencing tournament, a boy she likes, and a job of defending the world against the Corrupted. She is snarky and confident. I loved her in this book.

I love Briar the Rabbit. He is funny, smart and cool. It was interesting to get into his mind. I also think he is very interesting character as a rabbit because you do not think he would be the greatest sidekick for Alice. However, he turned my opinion of him around. Also, I love Chase! He is so adorable. I want him and Alice together.

I wish there was more to the story because it is a great world. The ending broke my heart when . It reminds me of my favourite TV show, Once Upon A Time. I would definitely recommend this book series to fans of the TV show OUAT!! Overall, a great read.

Things are getting interesting as Alive and her team are "invited" too stay at the castle of Prince Vontescue during the remainder of the fencing tournament. Lots of questions in this book. Who/what is the prince? What is the force of darkness called "the Malevolence" and how is it connected to the Grimms' fairytales and to the hero, herself? Will Alice be able to finally have a normal life? Will the fencing team eke out any victories? Is there a girl out there who actually finds Seth charming?! What I loved about this novel is that there is so much going on both in the "hero" and "normal" parts of the story. Even when Alice is not battling Corrupted, the storylines between her and Chase and the team are something I really cared about. I love the sports element to this novel. There's even a side story about PEDs! Of course the mysterious Malevolence story is also gripping. I'm both looking forward to and reluctant to read the last installment whenever it comes. I want to see how the series will end and find answers to my questions, but I don't want to say goodbye to these characters. Particularly Alice and Briar rabbit.

Oh my heart!

There was so many emotions, so much horror and the unthinkable. These books are getting darker and darker. Alice is injured, stressed and she doesn't know how much more she can take. But being the hero that she is, no, being the person that she has become, she's standing up, she's fighting and by god she's winning.

The ending of this book gave my a heart attack. I nearly tossed my table out the window, but because I can't afford a new one I stopped my auto-reflex and gently placed it on the coffee table, where I processed to take in some much needed breaths.

There are death flags popping up, and though no one died (no of importances) I can't shake the feeling that something big is about to happened, something that will break Alice's heart and maybe even break her.

Read this series! It isn't like anything out there!

Happy Reading

I was a bit hesitant, thinking this one might have something to do with vampires (I’m sick to death of vampires), but I ended up having a lot of fun with this one. I ended up with more questions than answers, but that’s a good series, right? It’s all over if there are no more questions.
