Rate this book
Scarlet Briar
The exclusive private community inhabited by actors, sports stars, senators and high society. The most recent additions being Cherie Boddington and her stripper mother—poor white trash gone to live in the house on the hill with multi-billionaire community owner Drew Briar.

With the Cruelest Intentions

Cherie thought since she’d lived in the gutter she knew how dangerous the world was and how to protect herself. She knew how to be hungry, how to do without, and how to scrape and claw for what she wanted. No one ever taught her how to handle excess—or the hedonist heir apparent who has nothing better to do than find her every limit and push her past them. Fearing she’d become like her mother, Cherie’s had little sexual experience aside from her mom’s pervert boyfriends trying to get into her pants, but while trying to hold her own in Scarlet Briar she’s launched on a journey of self-discovery, and the nature of pleasure and pain.

With the world at her fingertips while waiting for the glass house to shatter, Cherie embraces every new experience, every taste, and every touch only to learn not all that glitters is gold. Sometimes, it’s just Beautiful Trash.

This is a New Adult title intended for audiences 17+. Contains drug use, sexual situations and explicit language.

I can't put into words how I felt about this book. I'm back and forth between 3 to 4 stars for this one. I liked it but I didn't. I put it down, but I went back. I would close my kindle but then I would open. Are you starting to see a pattern? However, I will say this. I kept having to remind myself that this if fiction and that somehow made it better for me.

Bad. Bad. Bad.

A lot of typos. A. Lot.

Every single character is horrible. The heroine is soo insecure. Wants to fuck her stepfather. Wants to fuck her stepbrother. Fucks the trailer-park dealer. Jesus Christ. Absolute shite and waste of money.

Well this was good but a roller coaster of crazy, it was just hard to keep up. Cherie was this trailer trash girl with her mom as a coke whore stripper. Sounds like a great story right... Well that didn't last long all of a sudden they were being whisked off by some super rich guy, then all these crazy secrets come out and Cherie and her new found friends do some really crazy shit. Then more secrets come out. There were way to many part that just didn't add up right....

"A REAL LIFE, EXCELLENT, COMING-OF-AGE STORY THAT WILL LEAVE YOU BREATHLESS!"

This novel came as a recommendation from Sara Fawkes' facebook page. Since she enjoyed it immensely, I decided to take her advice and purchase this book. Well it was NOT a disappointment at all! It left me completely FLABBERGASTED!

Unlike any novel I've read thus far, with such RAW, in-your-face REALITY, with enough GRIPPING and SHOCKING revelations, and above all, an EXTREMELY fast pace storyline. Leaving the reader to question everyone's TRUE motive!

Ms. Ryder has written a RARE JEM, and I'm exceedingly PRAYING that there will be MORE to, Cherie Boddington's Story.

WELL DONE MS. RYDER DEFINITELY BEYOND A 5 STAR RATING!!

Ooooo I loved this.
It smacks of Cruel Intentions, even Tijan's work, Jaded, FCH, BRSJ.

Cherie is a BALLS to the wall heroine, she hands that shit out daily, I abso FREAKIN loved her!

The hierarchy, the complexity of the societies, the wicked twisted games. Hidden agendas, lies, secrets and HAWT boys/men. This book had so many facets to it, it shined blindingly.

I love this style of writing, the Lilly rising from the depths with a idgaf attitude, it makes my day. I also love the hidden agendas, the karma is a freaking bitch mama way, that has has me grinning about what is to come.

I would have given it 5*, but the length. I devoured it and I need more, I need more fuel for this story but it ended just as it seemed to be getting started. No awks cliffy as such, but like with this style it has left me blood thirsty for MORE and dear God do I want MORE.

All the characters are complex, I want to see how deep this shit goes!

This book was a quick read, had some nice little points in the story that were different and refreshing. However, this was a bit more bratty high school type of kids. There wasn't really any maturity to the dialogue or the characters, yet they were dealing with some really mature topics and situations.

Having said that, I didn't hate this book or the characters. I liked some things about all of it, but it wasn't quite enough to push me into the next books in the series.

Therefore - for me - this was just okay.

This is my first book by this author and it could use a good editor for missing or misplaced words throughout the book. Its written in Cherie's pov and is very short, 136 pages and I understand the next two books are less than 100 pages each so basically they should be combined into 1 book. Luckily this was available through Kindle Unlimited and I didn't buy it.

Cherie, 17 grew up in a trailer park with her mother, Serenity who is a stripper. One day her mother comes home telling her they are moving to Scarlet Briar, a expensive community full of rich people. (Never really explained the name other than Briar is the last name of the developer). She moves into a mansion and shares a bathroom with Scarborough aka Scar for short, Drew's son. (A mansion with a Jack n Jill bathroom, eye roll) Drew was Serenity's childhood sweetheart. All sorts of secrets to her true past come to light as she gets a taste of the power that money can bring. The whole book spans a couple of weeks and is basically about her and a group of self entitled rich kids abusing their power and playing games. It ends on a cliffhanger which is basically that you still don't know what is going on with this book and characters.

A lot of editing errors that drove me nuts, so it made it hard to get into some parts of the story. That aside, I'm surprised but then again I'm not because the new life that Cherie lives probably does happen among the rich and spoiled kids. I have always believed that people who do drugs are weak minded people and the group of kids Cherie now hangs with are definitely that. I thought Cherie was stronger than what she ended up being. The way she gets turned on by every guy who seems to touch her makes it seem like she is following in her mother's footsteps. I think she does end up pregnant with Jamie's kids because he didn't use protection the last she went to him because I'm thinking that this way he can tie her to him through a kid. Then for her to lust after her stepdad is just wrong on so many levels, but again, stuff like that really does happen.

I really enjoyed this book Cherie goes through a huge learning curve, navigating her way through her new life. I loved watching her on her way to becoming the Queen of her own castle. Don't get me started on Scarborough or Scar as he's known, It's beyond addicting Cherie's had one hell of a hard life and when the knight in shinning armor rides in and her Mother tells her to pack her bags. Cherie remains skeptical and she has a good reason to.

So this is one of those books that I like to call beautiful train wrecks. the reason I say this is because some of this stuff is so off the charts from what im used to reading that its like a train wreck. Im almost uncomfortable with how raw it is yet I find myself having to keep reading cause I have to know whats going to happen
