Squat

Rate this book
'Squat is a short gay romantic story written for an adult audience. It’s a story about finding love in the least likely of places; especially when you're cold and lonely, having forgotten what to be afraid is because you're numb. A story about finding your first love … and keeping it for the rest of your life.

I'm English by birth, from the Isle of Wight, living in Newport, spending part of the year in the USA, co-managing The Carter Seagrove Project LLC - an independent publishing house, incorporated in the State of Indiana.

I was 51 years old in 2016. I only started writing in 2009, proving, I suppose, that it is never too late. I didn't think about publishing until late 2012, now, nearly four years later, I'm even more energized by the process than ever before.

I'm a qualified English teacher, specializing in teaching English as a second language (TEFL), though I don't do much of that now. In the distant past, I taught software skills. In the very distant past, I was a project manager on big IT projects and at the very beginning of my career, I was an Internal Auditor. I have degrees in Internal Auditing, Computer Auditing and Project Management. I'm studying for my degree in Sustainable Development at the moment. Renewable energy is what really interests me.

I'm a member of The Society of Authors, The Society for Editors and Proofreaders and The Independent Author Network.

I have no great philosophy except "energy follows intention" and "honour your gifts". These two principles keep me sane, very happy and exceedingly busy!

We had found, or maybe created, or had been given love and there was no doubt.

An unexpectedly cute & short romance. With a very unrealistic but nice ending. The style was definitely peculiar and different, intriguing enough for me to think about picking up more works by this author.
It was perhaps too short to really fall for these characters. It had all the right elements, but lacked depth.

When you don't have squat.

You live in a squt. No chair for a squt. About all you can do is squat.

Unless you have the most important things in life: Someone to love and who loves you back.

Everything else is squat and who cares? But with the love comes caring and helping. Building a dream to care for each other AND others in need.

What is most important in life? Loving to care and share. Everything else is squat.

This was such a sweet story about finding love and hope again. And just being happy about the little things. It held so much in so few pages, I loved it.

It's no secret that I love Alp Mortal's stories, but this is one of my favorites. It's a very sweet, modern day fairytale romance under the most unlikely circumstances. Rally is a street kid at the end of his rope when he's approached by Stu, another boy who has managed to eke out a space for himself just off the streets in an abandoned house, but craves companionship. Stu teaches Rally his survival tricks and as they struggle to maintain some sense of normalcy under harsh circumstances, eventually they fall in love. The romance is very sweet, if perhaps not entirely realistic, but then neither was Cinderella. What I loved best is that the boys fell deeply in love when they had nothing but ach other, but stayed just as deeply in love when

As usual with Alp Mortal's stories, the depictions of sexual intimacies are explicit, but the romance is no less sweet for that bit of realism. If you're looking for a romantic, feel good m/m romance, this one hits the spot.
