Grieving and guilt-stricken after her husband’s suicide, Kasey Martin has closed her energetic healing practice and retreated to her Oregon horse ranch. One night, she rescues a badly injured man, and against her better judgment, uses her neglected skills to save his life. This starts her on an unexpected journey of healing and danger.
Complicating her life is Jim Bradley, an old friend who has long been in love with her and wants her to return to her work. When criminals looking for her patient invade the serenity of her world, she must use her skills to save all three of their lives.
Awakened not once but twice she focused her thoughts on the energy of the horses. Star was agitated, then she felt the burning heat, something was wrong. With pelting rain, she drives out and found the man. She didn’t want to use her skills, not since a year ago and husband suicide. He would die if she didn’t, and needed to know, to get him to hospital. The sensitivity she learned from her father. He was known as a horse whisper, and extended that to people as well. That it was not a curse, but a blessing for her as well. Curious to see the man and that she didn’t do anything to hinder his healing. Checking where he had been found a car with no papers With no insurance she is taking the stranger home. Will he get his memory back. Will she regain her courage to do healing again. Great story of the work she does. Losing a brother and a husband.is she ready for the love of Jim
Strong characters, well-written. Fascinating to me that my massage therapist does some work with energies and just before I found this book, I read an article in a local 'rag' about a woman who works with them. Fascinating....
Kate Wyland's "Forewarning" is a well-written, compelling mystery, and also a story of healing - both physical and emotional.
The book centers around Kasey Martin, a young woman with a very special talent. She's got an almost supernatural sense of empathy, and a gift for manipulating the energies of the body to promote healing. But when we meet her, she's sworn off using her talent, due to the traumatic death of her husband a year previously. Instead, she's turned all her energies to running her ranch, training and caring for horses. All that changes when she comes across a severely injured man on the edge of her property. Against her better judgment, she uses her talent to save him, hoping that it won't come back to haunt her.
But it does, when the man wakes up the next day with amnesia, and Kasey slowly finds herself drawn into the mystery of this strange man as he tries to recover his memories and figure out who he is and how he cane to be on the verge of death on Kasey's ranch. While the stranger's mind and body both heal, Kasey has to try and heal her own emotional wounds as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The prose is very clean and clear. The characters are all very well-drawn and believable, as is the author's depiction of small town life. I especially liked Kasey. She's handled with great maturity, and she's an extremely sympathetic and relateable character. Her dilemma over using her talent, and the potential consequences, really touched me.
I would highly recommend this book; anyone who's a fan of mysteries, and of characters with depth and real emotions, should thoroughly enjoy it.
The book up for review is “Forewarning” by Kate Wyland
Our main character is Kasey Martin. She is a young rancher with a special gift of touch. By this gift she can feel the energy from her animals who can relay their thoughts and pain. But Kasey can also use her talents on people. She doesn’t practice anymore when the book starts due to the death of her husband. His father blames her for using her hokey pokey medicine on him even though he still dies.
But that all changes when she comes across a car wreck and a stranger who needs medical help fast. Using her talent of harnessing healing energy she helps the man long enough for help to arrive. There is one major problem, he now has amnesia.
Kasey with her good nature and good will brings the man home against the protest of her friends. She hopes he can recover even though she has no clue who he is or what kind of man he is.
It is then that trouble arises in the small town and especially in the secluded area of her ranch. We should learn the stranger has a name TJ as he struggles to regain any memory from his past.
But as he struggles to learn who he is, it comes with a price.
I as a norm do not read romance novels. But this book kept my interest as the pacing was well written. The description was not over the top. We got just enough to fill our head with imagery without being bombarded. For me personally that is a big win. I truly did enjoy this book. The author did an amazing job of telling the story that is written between the covers.
FOREWARNING is the second book by Kate Wyland, and I love it as much or more than I did WOWMING ESCAPE. Ms. Wyland returns to the world of ranches and horses, and she imbues her heroine Kasey Martin with a love and knowledge of the creatures that is beautiful and moving. The arrival of a stranger who doesn’t remember who he is draws Kasey into the life she’d ignored while she struggled with guilt over her husband’s death. Who is sneaking on to her ranch scaring her horses? What of long-time friend Jim’s new way of looking at her? Can she allow herself to feel something for one of these men without putting them in danger? You’ll have to read this book yourself to find these answers and more. You’ll love her descriptions of the countryside, and the suspense is as super as the romance. I hope Ms. Wyland is hard at work writing her third book, because I’ve found a new favorite author.
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery by Kate Wyland. There’s a great pace throughout the novel and enough plot twists to keep up the interest. The characterisation is strong, good motivations given for some of the ‘baddies’ in the story making them seem slightly less horrible. The paranormal aspects are just enough to be believable -‘hands-on’ healing not new knowledge to us, but I enjoyed the universal healing that Kasey is able to do for both horses and people in the novel. The way Ms Wyland manages to weave those less traditional healing practises within the traditional doctor/ hospital situation is very interesting and makes me wonder how common that would be in reality. There’s enough sexual tension to make the reader wonder just how Kasey will eventually resolve her attraction to two different men – the reason given by Ms Wyland at the end a very satisfying one.
As a long-time horse fanatic, I was pleased to read a book in which the author is just as knowledgeable about horses (and didn't just do a lot of research). Aside from the great horsey-backdrop, Forewarning is a complex, well-written mystery with plenty of richly layered characters, each with their own emotional baggage. And then there is the healing aspect, which I found quite interesting and unique.
Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone who like their mysteries with a bit of romance, complex human emotions, and on-the-edge of your seat finales. The horses and healing are free of charge :-)
I picked this up as a freebie for my Kindle and although the description was intriguing, I didn't realize it was a paranormal story. Had I known, I would have skipped it because I don't read that genre. Ever. When I discovered what it was, about 20% into the book, I decided to keep reading as it kept my interest and I was curious how it would play out.
Except for some missing words, it was well written and had a decent story line. The characters were likable, the setting was terrific, the author had good descriptions and the animals were lovable. I can't say I'll read more like it, but I was glad I stuck with this to see the outcome.
I loved the charters in this book and hope Kate Wyland will bring them back in another book. I am not a fan of Romance, but love suspense. The romance was a minor part of this book. I have one small issue and that is it needs some editing. there are several words left out, wrong words or double words. Usually, I knock books down for this and if we could give half stars I would in this case, but I enjoyed the story and particularly the charter of Kasey enough not to in this case. Humans, horses, dogs and complementary therapies, my kind of heaven.
This is a wonderful love story with many twists and lots of turns adding murder, mystery, loss, grief and new found love. Very well developed and so many twists it will keep you hopping to keep up. The characters are awesome I loved them all even the grumpy one. You will enjoy keeping up with animals and all the cast of people, watching and feeling the emotions build. The ending is great, one I did not see coming but totally loved. Highly recommended!
Great start to a new series. I loved this book - and would definitely recommend it to mystery lovers. I found the heroine to be wonderful woman with a gift of healing. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I look forward to reading future books promised in this series. Bring them on, Kate Wyland.
