Beyond BPR in Public Administration

Rate this book
Change and transformation in systems of public administration have been the order of the day for some time now. More recently, reform and reorganization of government have become movements for its reinvention. The contents of this book reflect cases and ideas from the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and Slovenia. Administration is being transformed from professionalised and functionally organized bureaucracies into something completely different, but relatively unspecified. This has raised the concern of going 'beyond BPR'. BPR has emerged from intellectual origins which are relatively narrow. For public administration, in particular, broader questions about context and values must be addressed. Reinvention and reengineering in government and public administration are considerate within this broader context. The book is intended for policy science scholars and students as well as professionals within public and private organizations.
