In the mood for a new quick adventure story, I picked up this book by an author I've not read before. I liked the heroine from the start; there's some mystery around her past but I felt she made sense as a person, and her fondness for rescue animals was real. The first half of the book was a slow build, with the tension ratcheting up a bit at a time while I got to know the MCs and the community better. Then things really took off in the latter half, though the story never got "ugly". I did feel like the ending was a bit unbelievable, but I don't look to a book like this for realism; I want to have some escapist fun, which I definitely got.

The story was on the short side for this series, but I didn't mind because there was no padding here. The characters didn't spend endless pages longing for each other and there were no stupid arguments or misunderstandings that only serve to prolong the plot. I had fun with this and will keep my eyes open for other books by this author.

Thank you, Debra Webb, for my copy of this book. This story is a fast-paced romantic suspense read. Meg, the dog groomer, has a past she wants to keep hidden. She has built a new life for herself in Piney Woods, one that she would like to keep. Unfortunately, an event beyond her control sets things in motion she wishes she could have avoided. The people she has grown close to are now in danger, and she will stop at nothing to keep the safe, or at least she will try.

You will need to put on your running shoes and your thinking cap when you start reading this book. I could not get enough of this one. Meg Lewis is a dog groomer who lives on the edge. She has a hidden past that she wants to stay hidden. Unfortunately for Meg, her past skills are needed one evening when she has to rescue someone from a would be killer. It is quite obvious that her skills are not something you learn in your local self-defense class. The questions through almost the entire book are who is she and what is she running from?

Avery "Griff" Griffin loves all animals and has a farm full of rescues of all kinds. Meg would love to deepen their friendship, but she knows that she may have to go on the run at a moment's notice, so she holds her feelings back.

Since her heroic rescue at the convenience store, she is thrust back in the limelight, which means her days of hiding are over. The suspense and the action amp up with every chapter and will leave you on the edge of your seat. I found myself flying through the pages as I had to know who this mysterious woman was and what her story truly was about. Wow - I loved this one. This might be my favorite in the Lookout Mountain Mystery series.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Meg Lewis loves her life in Piney Woods. A dog groomer and member of the community who has grown attached to the people in this small town, especially Avery "Griff" Griffin. Griff took over his family's farm and rescues animals. Meg can't resist the charm and the looks of Griff, who is a stand-up guy. Although she should forget all about relationships, she broke her own rules and has become invested in these people and town. When a robbery happens, Meg can't walk away. Her particular skills come in handy, but now she is outed and soon will be on the run again. Can Griff keep Meg safe? Who is Meg, and what was she involved in?
Debra Webb keeps you guessing all throughout the book, and the ending is never what you expect. This author knows how to keep you wanting more. The fifth installment of the Lookout Mountain Mysteries is one of my favorite stories so far of the series. It is written as a standalone. Highly recommend all the books in this series. Don't wait, run to pre-order your copy today!
Thank you to the author and Harlequin for the Arc of this awesome book!

Another awesome read by Debra Webb!
Peril in Piney Woods is the fifth installment in the Lookout mountain mysteries series and although it is a standalone you wouldn’t want to miss the other books in this brilliant series!
I had a hard time putting it down because I was immediately drawn into the story.
Both Meg and Griff are great, strong and lovable characters ! I really liked the plot and of course as usual guessed wrong at how the story would end. The thing I love most about Debra Webb is that even in her shorter books she is able to develop the characters and the plot so it feels like a long book and you don’t want it to end.
Highly recommended if you are in the mood for a suspenseful, mysterious romantic story!
I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.

The plot twist regarding Elle's past was undeniably shocking, and the danger she faced kept me on my toes. If you're a fan of suspense with a strong mystery element, this book delivers.
However, for those seeking a steamy romance, Peril in Piney Woods might leave you a little cold. The simmering connection between Elle and Griff was sweet, but I craved more passionate scenes. The novel focused heavily on the suspense elements, leaving the romantic aspects underdeveloped.
While the suspense was well-crafted, I found myself wishing for more development of the romantic relationship. A few stolen kisses here and there weren't quite enough to satisfy my desire for a truly steamy read.
Overall, Peril in Piney Woods is a decent read for those who prioritize suspense over romance. But if you're looking for a book that will make you blush, you might want to keep searching.

Everyone loves a hero...

Meg tried being a hero in a previous life, it backfired and cost her everything, so now she tries to just give to others and keep a low profile. But she cannot stand by and watch an innocent girl be violated and murdered....the hero was not buried very deep, but her actions set off a ripple effect with very dangerous consequences. It is heartbreaking to watch Meg continually try to do the right thing and leave Piney Woods and it's residents safe, but each step is thwarted by evil, there is nobody left to turn to, she is on her own......
A dark, dangerous and twisted tale with Meg not only fighting for the good and the right, she is fighting to right wrongs and stop the corruption too.

Another awesome book by Debra Webb. Once you start reading you won't be able to put it down.

Meg moves into Piney Woods and has made some really good friends. She met Griff and they became friends, even though, if things were better, Meg might consider that. But with the way things are now she has to remain alone as much as she can and be prepared to move on a moment's notice.

Trust me this book will keep you engaged and wondering what will happen next.

The latest book in the Lookout Mountain series includes a compelling mystery as well as well-developed and likable characters. Meg is a dog groomer in the small town of Piney Woods, but she is always watchful. It is her caution and alertness that lead her into trouble herself because an act of heroism leads her into grave danger. People are searching for her and they want her dead, so the chase is on once they find her in Piney Woods. The action is non-stop from beginning to end and the pace is quick, racing to a final confrontation that has some real surprises in it. I really liked Meg’s fearlessness and determination, but my favorite character was Griff. Griff’s love for all animals and people made him a hero from the first time I met him in the book. His fierce defense of Meg made me love him even more since he was willing to do whatever it took to keep her safe from unknown danger. This book gripped me in the story that was believable and realistic. Although this is the fifth book in this mystery series, it can be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. I think this was my favorite book in the series because the characters were so lovable and richly portrayed. The cleverly written twists and red herrings kept me reading as fast as I could so I could find out the truth about Meg’s past and the outcome of the fascinating mystery.

Debra Webbs book 5 of the Lookout Mountain Mysteries. What a read! Nit only characters you will love but a story that will keep you interested to the end. Meg a dog groomer, has many secrets that keep her watching the streets at night to stay safe. No one in town knows her real past and when she sees a crime going down she has to act. That act could cost her everything. This in my opinion is the best book yet! So easy to read and exciting plus blooming love and wonderful characters. You can read this stand-alone. Full disclosure I received this book from the author for an honest review. I highly recommend this read! Debra Webb never fails to tell a great story.
