In less than a summer, shy and introverted Robbie Myers goes from eighteen and never been kissed to the passionate intensity of first love that could last forever. Literally…
Eighteen-year-old Robbie Myers has difficulty talking to people. Not only is he shy, but he seems to say the wrong thing every time he opens his mouth, especially to the mysterious, handsome stranger who shows up at his supermarket job, defends him from an aggressive colleague and then asks him on a date. He can't believe a hot, worldly badboy like seventeen-year-old Colt Abernathy is actually interested. Yet he can’t deny that the ardor burning in Colt’s dark eyes is just for him. In the space of one breath, Robbie is launched from his plan to attend community college while living at home with his mom and saving up for a car to the tender yet passionate exploration of intense first love. Little does Robbie know…
Brought across during the height of the Civil War, Colt has remained trapped in the body of a lonely seventeen year old. When he spots the slim, blond-haired, blue eyed young man, pushing a line of shopping carts across a parking lot, Colt knows instantly they’re destined for each other. There’s just one major problem: if he survives the impending battle between vampires and the Matarians - an army of brutal vampire slayers - he’s going to live forever. Robbie isn’t…

Let me first just say that I LOVE Jeff Erno's books and am excited to see when new ones are released.
But this one left me wanting. The first part of the book just felt especially forced and awkward.
It did get slightly better as it went along, but I personally would have rather seen the time devoted to something like 'Dumb Jock # 4'. I know I would have actually rather been reading that would-be book instead.
And if you do read this one, I pretty much guarantee as you read the end you'll be saying pretty much the same thing that I did -- "You have got to be F*CKING kidding me!!!" Yes, hated the ending, way more than a little bit.
But I do still look forward to other releases by Jeff, way more than a little bit, too. : )
First and foremost it is important to note that this is a really fresh take on an old, ofttimes repetitive paranormal sub-genre: vampires. I was not only pleasantly surprised at the way in which this novel pulled me in but really thrilled with the way the story was handled. It was gritty, no easy fixes here, and yes, while there was a HFN ending, there was by no means a resolution to the problems facing the main characters of this book. Jeff Erno really hit his mark with Forever Young and, in turn, gave us a thrilling, action packed novel with just enough heat and sweet young love to make it one of the best paranormal stories I have read in quite a while.
Robbie, while terribly shy and a bit naive really grows up during this novel and becomes an adult in every sense of the word. He is most definitely a sweet young man but he is no wimp. Rather he becomes a force to be reckoned with because of the confidence he gains from falling in love with Colt Abernathy. Colt is no Edward Cullen, trust me. He is every inch the seventeen year old boy he was when he was turned and his volatile emotions and loyalty to his “family” resonates off the page. Each of these young men really “come of age” through the course of this story. As their love for each other grows, they shed their selfish, immature ways and recognize how living for another person makes one’s life so much richer.
Author Jeff Erno sets up a world where there is the hunted and the hunter and lines continually blur as one becomes the other. He gives us the back story of this particular race of vampire, the day walkers, the pure bloods, the half breeds and then gives us the alternate view of their mortal enemies, the Matarians. Each side employs youth as the force for its main army and we watch with growing horror as sixteen year old boys and girls become killers in their own right. All of a sudden, you realize that Mr. Erno has shed light on how cult paramilitary compounds can take root and thrive and perpetuate decades of violent tendencies. And this idea is all wrapped up in the most compelling and fascinating of stories about vampires.
Yes, this was a love story but that was only one of its plot points. There were so many ways in which this novel moved, and each was so well thought out, each layer of the story lending more clarity rather than confusion. More importantly, author Jeff Erno unwraps such a detailed world that endless stories will be able to spring from this first novel. I read this book in one sitting, I had too. It was riveting and I needed to find out just how these two young men could ever really have a life together free from the violence that seemed to surround them. The ending, while feeling a little rushed did not disappoint, as it was not a neat happy ever after but more of a pause in the action awaiting the next chapter to this wonderful story.
I thoroughly enjoyed Forever Young by Jeff Erno. I will definitely be in line for the next book in this series.
I absolutely loved this novel! Forever Young stars Robbie and Colt. Now, Robbie is very hardworking and sweet kid. He lives with his mom and works at a local grocery store in Boyne City, Michigan. He’s living a normal and boring life, but everything changes when he meets Colt. Why? Because Colt is a hundred and sixty-seven year old vampire.
I loved Robbie's innocence and shyness. That made him appear weak, but I found him to be a fighter and believer. Colt, on the other hand, was freaking sexy and mysterious. He was a gentleman trapped inside a seventeen-year-old’s body. I loved Jeff Erno's version of a vampire novel. Twilight had completely destroyed it for me and Mr. Erno made me love vampires once again. This book is filled with several intriguing characters that I found myself wanting to know more of. I really hope that Mr. Erno pens a part two for this amazing and intriguing novel.
I recommend this novel to anyone who loves supernatural novels, a good young love story fill with mystery. Trust me; you won't regret sitting down and reading this fresh work of fiction.
Jeff excelled in this book and went beyond my expectations with the vampires and even werewolves. This was no Twilight movie whatsoever! I loved the characters, the storyline and even the way it was written. The action within the book kept me on a fine ball of nerves and at one point I had to get up and pace the room as I read it. I was too jittery in knowing what would happen next. It's a catchy story and it's one that you'll fall for if you have a like for the supernatural.
Kudos go to Jeff in giving this story to us. I'm not impressed that I have to wait upon a book #2 since this a continuation, but look at it this way...we'll get to enjoy MORE of these guys in another book!
This was an absolutely fabulous story. Not only was it a fantastic take on Vampires but it was a beautiful romance, and interstign mystery suspense. I think this had something for everyone. If you love vampires or romance this is a must read!! Just when you think it cant get better it twists and WOW what a fabulous story! I cannot wait for more in this series
Colt Abernathy a 17 ans... depuis 150 ans.
“Forever young we are born to run. Forever love and fun until the morning sun… Forever together… Forever” ~ Initial D
We all want our first love to last forever, yet, realistically, we know it probably won't. Circumstances change; people change; and life goes on. For Robbie of 'Forever Young' by Jeff Erno, his first love, Cole, brings along with it many firsts. Robbie has always worked hard and studied hard, but has no social life. In fact, Robbie is not truly living, he's existing, hiding behind his anonymity, with his music being his only outlet. That changes when he meets Cole. His life with Cole is fraught with passion, but also with danger. Unless Cole can restrain himself, it may be over before it has even gotten a good start.
When Robbie meets Cole, he's amazed that a cool guy like him would pay attention to someone as boring as Robbie. All of his life, Robbie has tried to be as invisible as possible; shy and retiring, people constantly underestimate the person beneath the gentle façade, mistaking Robbie's kindness for weakness. Cole's interest in him makes Robbie rethink his attitude; he finds the confidence to speak up for himself, causing others to see him in a different light. This newfound self-assurance gives Robbie the push he needs to show his true colors. He impresses Cole with his understanding and loyalty which enables them to stick together through obstacles that would normally tear a couple apart. Cole is everything to Robbie and he will do anything to stay by his side.
Cole is overwhelmed when he sees Robbie. He's convinced, right away, that this gentle, kind boy is someone he wants to get to know and possibly someone he could love. Cole sees Robbie for so much more than he sees himself and encourages him to be more self-expressive. Cole hates to lie to Robbie, but fears that the truth, that he's a one hundred and sixty-seven year old vampire in a seventeen-year-old body, may cause him to run screaming in the opposite direction. When Robbie learns the truth, he's certainly surprised, but is so in love with Cole that he immediately searches for a way to justify his fear and still find a way to stay with him. Cole shouldn't be afraid though, because he and Robbie are now so intimately bound that nothing can tear them apart.
Although this is a Young Adult book, it's certainly not a light read. This is a teenage love story with vampires and werewolves, but it's quite different than some other vampire love stories I've read. Jeff's writing is much better and the story is by no means silly or trite. He takes his subject very seriously. I especially like the way he provides clues by tying his characters together. It's a dark, sometimes frightening story about two boys from very different backgrounds, trying to find their way in a hostile environment, while fighting off deadly enemies on all sides. It also addresses the issue of blind prejudice between the various groups involved, i.e., humans, vampires, day walkers, and Matarians, the message being that there are always exceptions and these need to be taken into consideration in any situation.
I'd recommend this book to both young people and adults because, besides being entertaining, there are life lessons to be found hidden within the fantasy of the story. Thanks, Jeff, for an exhilarating read.
NOTE: This book was provided by Ai Press for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
I was loaned this book via a Kindle library loan from my uncle. The loan expired today before I could finish the book. To be honest, it felt like a stay of execution, because I was forcing myself to read it.
If a young reader enjoyed Twilight, and likes/identifies with LGBTQ character I would highly recommend this book for them. While I did not enjoy reading this book, it’s not a terrible book. In fact, I think it is a good book for a YA reader, especially if they are a fan of gay romance and vampires. The book does have graphic sexual content, but I don't see anything wrong with a teen reader enjoying it. While it features vampires it stays on the lighter, romantic fantasy side of the genre (far away from their horror genre roots). I could be a great read for fans of these kinds of stories, I'm just not that person.
I did not enjoy this book on many levels. A lot of it boils down to very clumsy world building, cliched dialogue and storytelling, and very a unpolished narrative writing style that made portions of the book feel more like an outline of a story (epic amounts of info dumping and telling verse showing). I could blame these issues on poor editing, but I think it’s less about that and more about the focus of the story which was the romance.
All these component of the story, the vampire mythology to the supporting characters and side story about the vampire hunters are tent polls meant to prop up the story of Robbie and Colt, but they’re poorly constructed. A hard shake and the entire thing comes down like a house of cards. Too many things are going on, and many of them are poorly constructed and clumsily executed. The story would have been better off with most of these details being cut down or removed entirely from the story.
Robbie and Colt’s story was a pretty standard young adult romance fantasy, which I’ve read too many times to invest in it yet again. Robbie is the typical shy, insecure ingenue we see in every romance be it gay or straight. Likewise Colt is the standard issue leather-clad bad boy with a vampire upgrade. Add a heaping dose of 'insta-love' and we have the romance at the center of Forever Young. Cue me falling asleep.
The only part of the story that did catch my interest was the storyline about the vampire hunters. Dylan and Issa friendship and tentative romance was surprisingly nuanced and compelling as hell. Their journey through training school was far more intriguing to me than the main story. Especially, when you look at how their journey thematically mimics the journey closeted kids in Conservative Christian communities and cults. They begin to question the way they are raised, while dealing with their own personal identity and struggle to reconcile it all. Which is a very real, relatable young adult journey, that I found fascinating to read. I would have loved to read a book just about them.
At the end of the day, I still think the book would appeal to readers interested in the gay version of the vampire romance fantasy. However, I would not recommend it for big fans of vampire lore or readers who want the strong world building. Or anyone who isn't interested in a tidy, unchallenging romantic stories.
How would you like to live for 165 years in the body of a seventeen-year old body? In Forever Young, Jeff Erno gives a different and slightly off the wall answer to this question. The blurb lays out the basics of the story and reading it for yourself will fill in the details of this quirky tale.
This is basically a plot driven story with a plot that flows fairly smoothly, but does jump around occasionally. The story and characters are fairly standard, but do have some unique twists that make it interesting. I do like the part of what it would be like to be 167 years old , but be stuck in the body of a 17 year old and the obstacles and limitations that would entail. The sex is mostly hinted at off-page, but there is plenty of passion and tender cuddling. The vampire hunters do have some cool hi-tech weapons and defense techniques, but I don't like the fact that all they seem to be is a mob out to blindly kill anything paranormal . The author's writing style is quirky, simple, and concise. The story does have a HEA ending, but it does have a bittersweet twist. I enjoyed reading this book, and if you're looking for a vampire tale with a quirky and humorous twist, then this is the one for you.
There were things I really liked about the book and things that I didn't. The characters were interesting - kind of Anne Rice style - and there was plenty of action making it an exciting read. On the other hand some scenes felt a bit rushed and the ending especially was bunch of stuff happening fast . This had an epilogue and some sort of resolution but it really needs a sequel (or the ending should to be rewritten).
This book is well written, the characters are well fleshed out and there are some very interesting plot twists to keep you on your toes. Highly recommend this book. It should be on everyone’s summer reading list if it isn’t already.
I simply adored this book. Jeff Erno stepped out of his usual genre to write this vampire book and I think he did an amazing job. I can't wait for the next one in the series.

i love jeff erno books and have read almost most of them and have enjoyed everyone so far loved this book it kept me gripped until the end cant wait for the next saga of this story
Yeah, not for me. Way too much angst! Skipped around a lot. I love Vamp's, but not whiney Vamp's! Not interested in the rest. The Vampire hunters are just as whiney! Egads!!!
