Nicole Fox writes smart, sexy mafia romance novels. She is a crazy cat lady in her late 30s with a coffee addiction, an overactive imagination, and a husband who somehow puts up with her impulsive need to keep buying new plants for their house.
72% into this book and I’ve had it with the timeline issues and inconsistencies. I’m ready to throw my Kindle across the damn room. Does this author not know how to keep track of ✨WHEN✨ she says things happened or ✨HOW✨ they happened?
This exact thing happened in book one and I was hoping beyond hope that she wouldn’t screw it up in part 2, but here we are.
Here’s a few examples of what I mean:
1. Earlier in the novel, Misha shows Paige the nursery. It’s explicitly stated that there are two cribs already built inside the room. Later on, Paige asks him to put together the crib in that same room. But they’re already freaking put together. No big deal, I guess, if that were the only issue.
2. In the first book, Clara’s death (Paige’s best friend) is said to have been caused by a random shooting. Specifically, it was the third in a string of shootings because they were from a bad area. Paige was upset with Clara’s “bad boy” boyfriend, blaming him for it, and thus she framed him with planted drugs to get him in trouble. This is a FLESHED out plot point. Clara’s death is a HUGE focus of book one. How she died is mentioned more than once.
✨TW ahead✨ Yet in the second book, all of sudden that WHOLE background is thrown out the window and now Clara was depressed, suicidal and self harmed. And no, she didn’t die in a shooting, she ACTUALLY killed herself. Paige has this whole conversation with Misha about it and I’m just… WHAT?!?!
3. I had to go back to the very beginning of Champagne Venom to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind with this one, but the timeline since Maksim’s death is WRONG. It was wrong in the first book too. At the beginning of Venom, the first time we meet Misha is a few hours before Paige wanders into the pizza restaurant. Misha is literally at Maksim’s funeral when we meet him. Yet in book one AND two, it’s stated that it’s been things like “a year and a half” since Maksim’s death, but Paige is still pregnant with the same babies from book one.
I paused reading to write this review because Misha just said “the first year after Maksim died”, and I can’t. I want to scream. It’s been LESS THAN 6 MONTHS if Paige is five months pregnant, considering Misha knocks her up the night they meet.
4. Inconsistent descriptions about what Paige looks like. Shoulder length hair, bangs, cascading curls down her back, blue eyes, green eyes… It depends on the chapter and author’s mood, it seems.
Gahhhhhhh…
🤬🤬🤬🤬
To me, this is lazy. Lazy writing, lazy as shit storytelling. It completely takes away from the reading experience when you can’t keep your own characters and their stories straight in your damn books.
I enjoy this author’s writing, I really do. But it’s so frustrating that she can’t keep plot points clear and cohesive. I feel insane reading her books because of it. I’ve never read a book where this is an issue, let alone a trending and obnoxious pattern.
I hesitate to read another one of Nicole Fox’s novels now. And I’m struggling wanting to finish this one. I simply do NOT understand how this happens. I really, truly don’t.
I can’t be the only one that’s noticed this stuff. 🥹🥹🥹
This is the second book in the series. While I enjoyed the dynamic of Paige and Misha’s family, the angst between Paige and Misha went on forever. Could’ve been one book.
I read the duet. It was an ok story. I liked that the female lead was strong and was not a pushover. I like to strong family connections. What I didn’t like was the inconsistent timeline. Sometimes something happened a week ago but the author called it a month. The brother was dead for a year or two or maybe 7 months. At different points in the story without consistency in the timeline. Need a better editor. Only issue with the female lead is that she was so concerned about living sustainably in the beginning but soon got over it with the conveniences of being rich. Also, the story dragged. Could have been done in one book.
Paige and Misha took a turn and…. Got. On. My. Last. Nerve.
She became an absolute doormat and was mentally abused the majority of the book. He was a complete ass face. Who couldn’t make up his mind and let me remind you mentally abusive.
I want to destroy her like she’s destroyed me. In the best way possible.
I liked this book. The scenes of Paige with Misha's family and how she developed a deep bonding with them were so heartwarming. Paige was smart but she forgave Misha way too easily for my liking. Misha's character development was so sudden and felt rushed to me tbh. But his softer side was a delight to read about. The book was lengthy and some of the chapters could've been shortened but I did not lose interest. The ending was amazing and the side characters were solid and intriguing. Overall, it was an easy read and kept me hooked.
Finally! I was able to finish this. This book started off where the first one just ended. It was a crazy start, 😬 so much happened in the beginning of this book that had me hooked. I hated Masha in the beginning but I ended up loving him in the end. ❤️❤️❤️
I didn’t give this a full five stars ⭐️ because there were a lot of moments that we’re starting to get repetitive and boring. The beginning and end were the only interesting part of this book. I felt like the author extended the second book but not much to write about, even the spice scenes were getting boring to read. The last 100 pages though were really good. I’m glad I pushed myself to finish it. 🥰
Another exciting conclusion to a Nicole Fox mafia duet! So fast paced with tons of twists and turn right to the end. I love how invested I get in these characters and their stories. I think the only thing that would make it better is if they were all in the same world so we'd be able to see them time and again. Slowly working my way through her backlog, so I just need to figure out which story I'm grabbing next!
Misha, Misha, Misha, it’s like two steps forward and then three steps back with you, every time I think you’re experiencing some sort of epiphany and moving forward realising just what you hold you get scared and backtrack. I’m seriously disappointed in you man, your meant to be some big bad Bratva Don and one small female wife with an attack of the feels terrifies you to your core, do better.
But seriously these two give me bloody whiplash with their inability to sing from the same hymn sheet. Thankfully we only had this for the first third of the book the rest of this they were much more connected as Misha finally succumbs to the inevitable despite how being in love scares him to the very bone.
Disregarding the beginning of this when Misha predictably reverts to type I loved the rest. I liked how protective and all-in he is and also that these two are now an equal team Misha appreciating Paige for exactly who she is.
This was an excellent duet full of angst passion and danger out of all of this author's works I’ve read to date this is the one I’ve enjoyed the most. It’s a long one for sure and yes could probably have been condensed down some but I’ve definitely had a blast reading and was engrossed to the very end.
Glad they weren't fighting the whole time. Such drama queens, the both of them. But it was cute and the pregnancy was cute. Family drove me a little crazy but that is to be expected. Thought there would be spin-off books about them but that is not a thing.
I read the synopsis of Nicole Fox's other books with the intention of reading some other ones, but they are all the same. Literally, they all have the same plot, so never mind.
Update: Sep 11th (a week after initial review): I now have plans to read more Nicole Fox. Her new books, released three days after this review, sound really good. Though, there are a lot of similar plot points.
The one thing I like about this story is that there are some realistic qualities to it (as far as I know lol). Not everyone makes it in this story, a lot of mafia books go light on who lives and dies but not this one. I was very sad about the people we lost in this book. The biggest complaint I have is how drawn out it was and the lack of interesting steamy scenes. Overall an enjoyable two books.
"It's funny, really. The timing. We never seem to be on the same page, do we? We keep zigging when the other one zags."
And that my friends is what drove me bonkers about this duet in the end. It was too much zigging and zagging. It made it really hard to feel their connection. I was drawn into certain scenes, and moments that brought feels or heat. But overall the duet was too drawn out. It felt like more of the same drama from book one in this one. And the timeline was even more off in this one. Especially with her pregnancy. Her "burgeoning belly" never seemed to be the size it should have been for how far along she was. I was intrigued enough to want to get to the end, but overall just okay for me.
"I want Misha. All of him. All the time. But I want to be the perfect Bratva wife, too. For no other reason than to make my husband proud."
The second book was definitely a love-hate relationship for me. I don't mind the angst, cliche mafia romance, BUT... My biggest issue with the read was the unfairness. Paige did everything, sacrifice and with her character development, she was always trying to be her best self and a mafia wife to Misha; all he did was be an ass to her.
While he apologised and got some sense in his head, I feel he didn't grovel or suffer enough. He should be giving the same amount of effort when she did so much for him. It was a happy ending, but I still don't like Misha as much.
“Tomorrow, too. As well as the day after. She’ll be here every fucking day and every fucking night until those bruises have healed and I’m confident that you and our babies are out of harm’s way. Is that going to be a problem, moya zhena?"
This duet is basically Cruel Paradise/Cruel Promise (Oryolov Bratva) in different font and I think reading them back to back was my mistake. The general plot between the books is nearly identical and it felt so repetitive after four books, I couldn’t enjoy what I was reading.
Honorable mention for these continuity issues: Paige has brown eyes in book one and green eyes in book two.
Paige cut her hair shoulder length in book one and it’s waist length in book two.
Clara died by gang violence (stray gunfire) in book one and suicide by knife in book two.
This is book 2 in the Orlov Bratva duet, there will be spoilers from book 1 and some spoilers for this book.
Nicole Fox continues to make amazing mafia romance books and this was no exception. This is the conclusion to Misha and Paige's story. It picks up right where the first book finished. As in many mafia romances, Misha was getting worried about the risk for Paige and their baby while he was trying to get rid of his enemy. He began pushing Paige away. Some of the things he said to her was cruel and unnecessary, I was really worried that this book would be full of Misha being mean to Paige so that he could keep her at arm's length. Fortunately, It didn't take much time for Misha to start admitting his feelings and I really enjoyed watching their relationship growth. This book had a ton of action, some parts seemed like too much considering that Paige was pregnant. Even through all of the danger that Paige was in, I liked that Misha wasn't trying to take Paige's career away, he allowed her to have some independence. He also allowed her to prove herself as a "Bratva Don's wife". Both main characters had so much growth during this book, both had began recovering from their grief, but I think Misha changed the most during this book. By the end, I didn't hate him for the things that he had said to her at the beginning. There were plenty of plot twists and a lot of spice (tons of angry make up sex). I took away 1 star because Misha was a huge jerk at the beginning of the book and there were parts where I felt was stretched a little. I haven't found a Nicole Fox book that I haven't liked, I really hope we get a book with Konstantin in the near future.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
3.75 stars A bit long. So much back and forth fighting between Misha and Paige. And she’s stubborn to a dangerous degree. Even when she knows the villain is gunning for her, she rebels for her freedom. Stupid, really. But there’s lots of Bratva action. Sad that there are so many dead bodies. My heart broke for Cyrille. Truly. I hope she gets love at long last.

“I hear the screech of tires, Misha, I whisper. His name is drowned out in a torrent of explosions and gun shots. My husband is charging in, guns blazing, literally!” -Paige
I loved this two part mob mafia romance. SO. MUCH.
This was the most inconsistent and chaotic book I’ve ever read. So many stupid plot holes my head is literally hurting from it all. It was everywhere. The character descriptions, the plot, the timeline… Paige cut her hair to her shoulders and suddenly a month later she had her hair down to her butt. Her eyes were green and then other time blue. It felt like she was pregnant for fucking eternity as well. She was seven months pregnant with TWINS and apparently everyone was surprised when they announced she was pregnant … like… wtf??? The timeline did not fit at all. They met the night Mishas brother died and Paige got pregnant after his funeral but then Misha said that he is waiting for his revenge for 2 years now? Is she an elephant to be pregnant for so long? The reactions and actions of characters did not make sense and were not natural. Misha switched his whole opinion about their relationship out of nowhere. Not after all the traumas and setbacks, I mean goddamn his prego wife almost died and he stayed cool as ice. But then out of nowhere he was suddenly lovey dovey, no explanation, no buildup to this character development. I’m not even gonna start talking about the death of Clara, the first and second book did not agree on the cause of her death apparently. Everything was repetitive. The conversations, plotpoints, everything. I tried reading multiple books from this author, nothing ever worked for me. It makes me kinda sad but I guess it’s just not for me.
Book 2 wrapped up perfectly. I’m absolutely obsessed with how this story ended and as someone who is not normally not fond of the pregnancy trope this book ATE. Maybe because it’s a mafia setting with an arranged marriage, but this book had me in all the feels. Like I was crying, laughing, giggling, kicking my feet IT WAS ALL THERE.
Filled with action, romance, found family, and best part I felt like there was no miscommunication-and whenever they had problems as a normal husband and wife they would maybe pout for a few hours and then they always found a way talk. That to me was an important aspect to the story especially since this is a dark mafia romance because it was set to a healthy standard. The main love interest never forced her to do anything, nor forced himself on her and I think that something important to bring light to because a lot of readers think this particular genre is incapable of being dark while also being respectful.
Basically I HIGHLY recommend this duo, if your looking for a wholesome yet gruesome mafia arranged marriage romance. I honestly think that even besides the romance aspect there was so much beautiful lessons to behold to make this story wonderful.
Once again Nicole nails it w/a 5⭐️ duet! Champagne Wrath is an adrenaline filled ride f/start to finish! It picks right up f/that explosive cliffhanger in book 1, & the suspense & action doesn’t stop. I so wanted to really smack Misha & shake sense into him. It was like 2 steps forward but 10 steps back w/him. I was so happy to see Paige finally give him the wake up call he needed by telling him she’s done trying w/him & making a fool of herself. I was like FINALLY!! Misha thought he had everything figured & he thought he knew it all, but how wrong he was. And it was so damn nice to see him finally let down those walls & admit his feelings for Paige. He was truly a great guy & it showed. I loved all the side characters too, especially Nessa. How she took Paige in & accepted her, & how she stood up for her to Misha, it was exactly what Paige needed. And I can’t forget about Konstantin! That man is a mystery that I’d love to see get his own story & HEA. I love Nicole’s writing, it never disappoints, always sucks me in & leaves me anxiously waiting for her next release!
This is the second book in the Orlov Bratva series and it’s brings Misha & Paige’s story to an epic conclusion. This book has love, passion, devotion, betrayal, and forgiveness!
Misha is still fighting to end Petyr’s life but he is has been one step ahead of them at every turn and it is taking a toll on Misha. Paige is trying to embrace being a Bratva wife but she knows it’s going to be a new experience but she is taking the challenge with the support of love of her new family. She will not be intimidated and she will keep her babies safe.
Misha has fallen more in love with his wife and he is determined to keep her safe. Their love for each other is so strong that it radiates off the page. They have a battle ahead of them and it’s intense and overwhelming to say the least but it’s part of their story that needs to be told. You will devour their epic conclusion and you will love everything about their HEA. I hope there is more stories to come because these characters all deserve their HEA. Happy Reading!!
Misha and Paige are back in Champagne Wrath. Their story continues from Champagne Venom in grand fashion! Of course I wouldn't expect anything less. This author has such a way of telling a story, that you feel all that the characters feel. And there's LOTS to feel with these two!
"Of all my mistakes, what if loving her is the worst?"
"I have, for the first time in a long time… Hope."
“I know the Bratva is your life. But right now I don’t need you to be the Don. I need you to be my husband.”
"I have a husband. A family. A future. I have hope. And when I look through the windows, the starlight is the color of champagne."
"We have to live —boldly and without regret.”
The conclusion of Misha and Paiges journey is absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful, emotional, tragic and without a doubt an absolute must read.
LOL guys, these are a ride. Totally ridiculous. I think this could have been one book, but there's a lot of hot, toxic energy to span two, I guess. The mafia romance world is just wild. This book continues on with Paige and Misha's relationship, and it was fine. I feel like I should have my feminist card revoked for not hating this, but I didn't! (Also didn't love, by any means.) I miss the romance in these, there's SOME but it's not like, kick your feet up happy. It's a lot of hot hate fucking and then "do as your told". So, was an experience, I'll probably dabble again as a contemporary romance palette cleanser, but definitely not my thing based off *these* books.
