The book of Job can appear a simple story. A righteous man loses everything, stands firm in the face of his horrible friends, and in the end is rewarded by God for his faithfulness. But the real story is not so straightforward and holds infinitely more meaning.
Layered in the beautiful poetry of the book are complicated conversations about the nature and character of God, cries of anger over the injustice of the world, and tense fear over the perceived absence of the Lord.
Suffering and Silence is an accessible overview of the book of Job, inviting you to dive into this Old Testament masterpiece to take a real look into Job’s incredible struggle, God’s seemingly silent voice, and the twists and turns of a narrative which still holds incredible meaning thousands of years later.
This was a wonderful Bible study of the book of Job. I am not somebody who likes poetry and always dreaded the book of Job when I would read it every year. Evan Westerfield does an excellent job of making the story understandable, relatable, and interesting. I also love the humor Even puts in the story. I now have a completely different perspective on the book of Job and I think Evan‘s book for that.
This book is an approachable but in-depth study of the book of Job, giving the reader both a deeper understanding of Scripture, and practical tools for dealing with suffering. Would recommend, regardless of where you are in your Christian walk or your familiarity with the Bible.
