From USA TODAY bestselling author Christie Ridgway comes a sparkling new series set in the California mountains, where Hollywood glamour meets rustic charm, and the sparks fly among the unlikeliest of couples…

Poppy Walker has a plan to restore the family resort, and she's sticking to it. So when a good-looking guy with plenty of cash rents one of her half-repaired vacation cabins, she figures he's just what the handyman ordered. But when a late-winter storm blows through, it takes down some trees, her roof and then…her self-control. Even though she's been burned before by a wealthy passer-through, she can't stay away from the brooding but gorgeous stranger in the bungalow next door.

Former teen idol turned Hollywood exec Ryan Hamilton wants a private place in which to endure his very personal heartbreak. Finally, at this rustic mountain cabin, he has all the seclusion one man could want—until sparks begin to fly with his sexy, formerly chilly landlady. By the time the weather dies down, they're both hot, bothered and certain they're still wrong for each other. But there's no telling how they'll face the new storm brewing on the horizon…

Good romance. Our hero is a famous producer and actor who suffered a horrible event years ago in March. Now every year he spends the month of March trying to forget. This involves risky behavior coupled with massive amount of alcohol. This year he is staying in a dilapidated cabin in a resort in the mountains. Our heroine is trying to restore the family resort. Since she was rude to him at first meeting our hero decides to spend time with her. (Obviously this is the trick to landing a handsome rich guy...rudeness. Who knew? 🤷🏼‍♀️)

This is a case of me not knowing if it's me or if it's the book. Mostly I just wanted this book to be over, but I also don't think it was a terrible book. Let's see if I can work my feelings out.

First, no mentioned in the description, but Poppy, the female lead, has a five-year-old child. Do I wish I had known that going in? Yes, absolutely. I'm not a big fan of books where the main characters have children. There's too many things about kids that (rightly) take away from the romance and I prefer my romances to be about romances, not a child. That said, Poppy's son was kind of cute and I liked his adoration of Ryan so it wasn't all bad, but still, if I had known in advance there would be a child I probably wouldn't have even picked this up.

Second, part of me feels like this is a book for older people, which is weird because Poppy is 27-years old, two years younger than I am, and Ryan is only a handful of years older (31 maybe?). However, Poppy is such an old maid. Since having the kid she's cloistered herself off up in the mountains outside of Los Angeles. She used to manage an inn, but when it closes for repairs she decides to renovate some cabins her family owns and try to rent them out to rich "flatlanders" aka Los Angelenos aka people from Los Angeles, which is how she meets Ryan, a former childhood star. Poppy seems impossibly perfect and independent. I understand why her circumstances would have made her that way, but still it just didn't seen genuine to me.

Third, when Ryan and Poppy met I liked their relationship. Ryan is the brooding guy from LA and Poppy is the small town girl who's been beaten down. And there was heat and attraction there and I was into it. But as the story went on I never got what either of them really saw in each other. Their interactions were few and far between and when they were interacting it was either with Poppy's son present or when they were having sex. I don't want to use the term "instalove" that's so popular with my beloved YA books, because it wasn't like that, but it also left me feeling confused. They're both very closed off characters, but I there had to have been a better way to allow them to get to know each other. The book is told in alternating third-person perspectives between Poppy and Ryan and honestly if we hadn't had Ryan's perspective we would have known nothing about him.

Fourth, I just lied above. The book is told from Ryan and Poppy's perspectives, but then oddly there were also excerpts from Ryan's brother Linus's screenplay which, even more oddly, is based on a relationship Linus had the previous summer with Poppy's cousin Charlie (a girl). Then, after the screenplay excerpt the book would go into the story of Linus and Charlie in the present from either (but mostly Linus's) of their third-person perspectives. I did not understand this at all. From Linus and Charlie's relationship I did get to learn more about the relations between locals and flatlanders, but otherwise it just seemed like an unnecessary distraction. Even though I liked Linus and Charlie. I wouldn't mind reading a book about them, but I don't understand why their story had to be interjected here.

Fifth, for much of the book the story just seemed stuck. At the beginning of the story Poppy and Ryan are at Poppy's family's cabins and, since they're the only two people there and they're trying to avoid each other, not much was happening. Which was sucked because it meant spending a lot of time in Poppy and Ryan's heads. After maybe 50 or 75 pages I didn't know how I was going to get through the rest of the book. But then, movement! Poppy and Ryan have to leave the family compound! But unfortunately they end up at Ryan's mountain home. Poppy's son (who was in Disney World with her cousin) and Linus are now in the picture, but still, it stagnated. Honestly, nothing really happened. Poppy's son hero-worships Ryan, but Ryan keeps to himself, Poppy takes care of her son, and sometimes Poppy and Ryan have sex. It was just very slow and drawn out.

Sixth, something good, the story didn't unfold how I expected it. Ryan, through a series of unfortunately events, became infamous with the tabloids. Poppy, who's not into celebrity culture at all, doesn't recognize him. I thought that the story would go along without Poppy knowing Ryan's true identity and that, at the end, that would be the problem between them. Also, Ryan doesn't immediately know about Poppy's son and that was another thing I thought would be a problem in the end. But then Poppy finds out that Ryan is famous and Ryan finds out Poppy has a son and that wasn't ultimately the issue. The thing that was ultimately the issue was heartbreaking and I found how Ryan deals with it and ultimately came to terms with it compelling, but still, it didn't make up for all my other issues.

Bottom Line: I didn't want to give this book two stars, but I don't think I have any other choice. There were characters and moments that I enjoyed, but in the end there were too many things about the characters, the story, and the pacing that got under my skin and made it feel like I was reading a book that's much longer than 384 pages.

I received an electronic review copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

My Review:
I definitely enjoy a feel-good contemporary romance and this one definitely worked for me in that regard. The book was really good, but I think part of the reason I liked it so much was the setting. The first half of the book takes place in a group of old, tiny resort mountain cabins that completely captured my imagination. I'm especially excited about this because it looks like the entire series is going to be built around the family refurbishing these old little rental cabins. I love both that idea and the mountain ambience. I'm a mountain girl and this hits all my reader hot-buttons for what I enjoy in setting.

But there is so much more to the story...Poppy and Ryan. I LOVED these two characters.

Poppy is one of four siblings who grew up in this tiny mountain town. She's the optimistic one...the dreamer. She's also the one who's the first to get her dreams smashed because she trusts too readily and too easily. She's the one in the family who thinks they can fix the cabins to be worth something...none of her 3 siblings agree. Right off the bat, I loved her. She's determined. Her 5 yo son is gone for 10 days. She plans to use every minute of those days working on the cabins to fix them up...and is fully planning to do it all on her own to prove that it can be done. This girl has gumption and grit.

Then there's Ryan...the infamous hollywood A-lister. Throughout much of the book, it's a mystery as to exactly what's happened in previous March's to make it such an awful month for him. But he's in the mountains hiding out and Poppy's abandoned cabins seem like the perfect escape until they literally begin to crash down around them. Ryan is definitely hiding something and at first I just assumed that it was some sort of shallow hollywood-driven infamous occurrence, but as the details of his past are revealed, I fell even more and more in love with him. This guy...*gah* my heart hurt for him.

The story is set up fabulously. It starts completely focused around Poppy and Ryan and as more of their story is revealed, more characters become important to the story so that by the time the end rolls around, I was fully invested with about 12-15 character lives in this small town. I loved that about it. There's also a side romance between Linus and Charlie that at first I got annoyed about because it was taking time on the page away from Poppy and Ryan, but as we delved further into it, I became just as emotionally invested with them as I did the MC's. Their story is also told in a rather inventive way with flashbacks told via script from the summer before. It took some getting used to but then I loved it.

Overall, it was a great start to this new series and I am definitely looking forward to more stories about this family. I'm excited!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Single mother Poppy Walker wants only to fix up the family resort cabins, which have fallen into disrepair from neglect and her siblings' plan to just "let them go," knowing the place is cursed by her late fathers' bad decisions. Now is the time to begin while her 5-year-old is at Disneyland with his cousins.

Ryan Hamilton is looking for a place to escape--from the papparazi, crazed fans, and his nightmares about what happened four years ago in March. The month holds nothing but pain.

When he rents one of Poppy's cabins, she seems like a breath of fresh air to him and she doesn't even know who he is, not being a TV- or movie-watcher. She finds him dangerously attractive, too, but after they begin to act on the sparks that surround them, they are discovered. He takes her and 5-year-old Mason to his big lake house where they'll be safe behind the gates of his mansion. They are, until Mason's father--who's never paid him any attention before-suddenly shows up demanding what amounts to a ransom.

Can Ryan find the boy when he disappears? Or will someone else become the hero of the day?

Great emotion-packed story. My favorite kind. Poppy Walker and her siblings own a piece of mountain resort property with some cabins that Poppy thinks could be repaired and rented out. Her siblings don't agree. So it's left to her and her 5 year-old son to live there and try to make the repairs. She puts up flyers around town and it attracts the attention of a Hollywood personality looking to escape for a month. Ryan is a former teen idol and movie star who gave it up to go into producing. He shows up to rent a cabin from Poppy and she has no idea who he is. He uses a fake name and she doesn't recognize him because she doesn't have TV and doesn't go to movies. He is running from a personal tragedy that happened in March 4 years ago. Every March is self-destructive for him. Of course, they turn out to have incredible chemistry and the story evolves from there. It's really about self-discovery and healing. Wonderful love story and super HEA.

Very good beginning to a new series. Poppy is a single mother with great plans to renovate the cabins at her family's resort as a way to bring in cash for the family. When Ryan offers extra cash to rent one of the cabins now, she takes him up on it. Ryan is there, running from his memories, but Poppy turns out to be quite a distraction. When a storm traps them together the sparks fly between them.

Poppy grew up in Blue Arrow Lake and is quite familiar with the way the wealthy visitors behave. She was burned several years earlier by a guy who bailed on her when she got pregnant. So she isn't going to let herself fall for Ryan. She's got her hands full raising her son and working on the cabins, Thanks to the storm that traps them together, she finds it harder to stay away from him.

Ryan was a child star who has left acting behind for the production side of the business. For eleven months of the year his life is fine, but March is always bad. In trying to escape from tragic memories, he seems to end up in some kind of trouble each March. He's come to Blue Arrow Lake to find a place to hide out and try to avoid the paparazzi who follow him around. Landing in one of Poppy's cabins is great because she has no idea who he is. The downside is the very inconvenient attraction he has to her.

Poppy is independent to a fault, refusing to ask for help from anyone, but she is also cheerful and optimistic most of the time. In spite of his wealth and fame, Ryan is basically a nice guy. But he is in so much pain from his personal tragedy that he hasn't been able to move on with his life. When a steamy kiss is caught on camera by the paparazzi, Ryan whisks Poppy and her son off to his home by the lake to protect them. It's there that the connection between them becomes more obvious. Poppy sees that Ryan is in pain, and even though it takes a long time before he tells her the cause, she tries to be there for him. Ryan's pain is made stronger with the presence of Poppy's son Mason in the house, because it reminds him of what he has lost. He tries desperately to keep his distance, but finds both Poppy ad Mason creeping into the heart he thought was frozen. Though their physical attraction took off quickly, a deeper relationship was slower to form. I really liked the way that Ryan was so sensitive to Poppy's emotions and could tell when something was bothering her. Even though he refused to believe he could love again, he couldn't help but want to help her. I also loved the way that even though being around Mason brought back painful memories, he didn't take it out on Mason. There were some really wonderful moments between them that gave Poppy hope that there could be something more between she and Ryan. I loved seeing them grow closer, even as both resisted thinking about a future together. There were definitely some trying times before they were both able to overcome their insecurities and look for that future together.

Poppy's son Mason was really adorable. I loved the way he followed Ryan around and how Ryan never pushed him away. The fun they had with the spy maps was great, and I had a feeling they were going to be important. I loved what happened at the end, and how Mason was such a big part of Ryan's healing.

I also enjoyed the secondary romance with Linus and Charlie. She hadn't expected to see him again after their time together the year before, and his reappearance really messed with the way she deals with her summer flings. I really liked his patience in getting her to keep seeing him. It was pretty sweet the way he was the first to realize his feelings for her. Then he had to convince her that there could be more for them both.

There's also a lot going on with family relationships. Poppy is having trouble convincing her brother and sisters that fixing up the cabins is the right thing to do. But even with their disagreements, they are there for her when they think she's in trouble. Linus is Ryan's brother and is worried about him because of Ryan's actions. I loved the way that he came to watch over him, even though Ryan didn't want him there. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these folks in the next book.

If you're a fan of Contemporary Romance, Take My Breath Away by Christie Ridgway is exactly the kind of reading escape you are looking for! This is the first installment in her Cabin Fever Series.

Poppy Walker is a single mom who has big dreams. One of her dreams is to restore the family resort, which will bring the Walker family closer together. When a mysterious stranger shows up at the resort and is willing to pay big money to rent a cabin, she can't refuse. Bills are pilling up and renovations have to get done. Her first visitor might just be the answer to her prayers. Ryan Hamilton hates the month of March. Every year the past catches up to him. This year is just like any other year until Poppy Walker enters his life. When they meet their attraction is instant. The more time they spend together, the more they get under each other's skin. Will they be able to let go of the past and start a future together?

What a great story! I really enjoyed discovering this new author and series. This book has a good storyline, lovable characters and it caught my attention from the very beginning. Poppy and Ryan were amazing together! They had tender, funny and passionate moments. My connection to both of them was made at the very beginning of their journey and they held my attention until I turned the last page of their sweet love story! Both of these characters have been burned in the past and it was beautiful to see how they helped each other overcome their insecurities. I was curious to find out why the month of March was such a devastating month for Ryan. When I found out why he hated March so much, my heart broke for him! I loved how determined Poppy was to restore her family resort. She really wants to keep the Walker Legacy alive and she's not afraid anymore to ask for help. Poppy has a heart of gold! She is sweet, understanding and she was the perfect match for Ryan. Even if Ryan pushed her away, she never gave up on him and made him believe in love again. Poppy's son, Mason, was absolutely adorable!! I was happy he was a part of this story. Awwww moments guaranteed! <3

I give, Take My Breath Away, by Christie Ridgway 3.5 entertaining, romantic, sweet stars! Poppy and Ryan's story left me with a smile on my face and a happy heart. Great start to a new series! I'll definitely will be adding the rest of this series to my TBR list!

I really liked Poppy's spunk. I thought that she was a good heroine without being overly set in any way. I liked that she had plans but was willing to accept problems as they came along without losing her optimism. I felt that her optimism was well done, it was not overly-Pollyanna (although I have to say that I have a fondness for Pollyanna in her own story). Optimist heroines often get on my nerves but I felt that Poppy had enough realism in her character to temper that innate optimism. I didn't like that she only associated herself with being Mason's mom. It made her seem only and stodgy and the idea that she could be not-Mason's mom while he wasn't there and so could sleep with Ryan but then would be once he got back from Disneyland and have nothing more to do with Ryan was warped. And the whole he-made-her-realize-that-a-mom-was-still-a-woman-too, thing-bah.

Ryan. I wasn't really sold on him. I never felt like there was a deep connection for him, when it comes to Poppy. His relationship to her son was worse. It reminded me of an absent father, almost. Or a father that's there but not really present. On the flip side, I liked that he wasn't perfect with the kid. Being a step-parent myself, I always hate that romances have very little conflict with between the steps (or will be steps once the HEA occurs). Because being a step parents is not so quick and easy as often portrayed so I liked that there was reluctance on Ryan's fault. I'm not sure if others would see it that way, because there are some cute moments as well.

I didn't like that it took so long to understand what happened to make March so terrible and I felt that he was using the month as an excuse to let himself go and be an idiot. I can empathize with his grief, but it is hard to believe that he is fine for 11 months but one month he makes stupid decisions, and all the decisions that he does make, he blames on the month. The idea of making Poppy another March mistake, given that I didn't really see that he tried hard not to make bad decisions.

I liked the story and relationship between Charlie and Linus but I didn't like the way it was set up, I get the idea because of the movie/Hollywood business aspect to the brothers (Linus and Ryan) but I really didn't like the script part of the past story. It drove me crazy.

Overall, I will probably continue reading the series.

I enjoyed my first Christie Ridgway book, as well as my first narration from C. S. E. Cooney. They both brought a lot of delight with Take My Breath Away.

Poppy is a single-mother that many times throughout the book shows her stubborn, yet free-spirited character. I enjoyed her interactions with her son, and I loved how she learned that a mother can also be a sexy woman. The drive Poppy demonstrated numerous times told me she wanted to make something of her life. That was my favorite quality in Poppy's character. Her son was adorable and also brought a lot to the story!

Ryan is a messed up gorgeous man that can't do anything right in March because of a tragedy in his past. Unfortunately or fortunately, he meets Poppy during that month. It is good Poppy wasn't looking for a man. Too bad Ryan and Poppy both had a case of forgetfulness now and then. It was the moments they forgot to keep their guard up that made the book for me.

This was a sweet story of two people from different lives who just can't go their separate ways once they have gotten to know the other. It was a nicely paced romance with an interesting subplot with Ryan's brother and Poppy's cousin. This had me perplexed a few times and I think the story would have been even better without the side trips to their story. That being said, I did enjoy when all of the characters were together. I am looking forward to learning more about the Walker family in the other books in this series.

Mountain Curse: TAKE MY BREATH AWAY by Christie Ridgway

http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

When a book is predicated on the idea that you cannot trust a certain class of people because they all behave a certain way, you know one of the lessons is going to be about assumptions.

With an audio version of a print book it is important, in the production sense, to look at a book’s narrative structure and either decide that it is confusing and must be somehow explained or altered, or confuse the listener. To illustrate: There are three love stories in this book. Two brothers in the “real time” of the story and one in a screenplay inserted at the head of or between chapters or sections. But, the issue with it is that the screenplay is based on the love story of one of the brother and a woman with whom that brother is having an actual relationship in the story. Since I couldn’t see the italics or other differentiating feature, and as I am unable to read the minds of fictional characters, I was often confused by which relationship was being described at the time in this book.

But, regardless of the story being a bit over the top at times and the exaggerated and self-indulgently destructive reactions one person has to tragedy, I had fun with the read: figuring out what character was going to screw up next, and getting into the heat between the characters. There was enough heat to melt the big snowstorm that hits.

I could easily see the characters in the story in my mind, doing all their “crazy.” They are well-described and their constructive and destructive behaviors are complex and that makes them interesting characters.

It was worth my time.

This is an updated version of a previous book (Take My Breath Away). It has been updated and revised and I really didn’t feel like I was rereading anything. This is the story of Poppy Walker, single mom to Mason, a five year old boy who is the center of her life. They live at Blue Arrow Lake which is a resort town for the rich and famous. Mason is the result of a summer relationship with one of the visitors and Poppy has vowed that she won’t ever make that mistake again. She has big plans and dreams of renovating some vacation cabins her family owns that have become really run down over the years. Enter Ryan Harris who comes to rent one of the cabins Poppy had advertised. Since it is before the season starts she didn’t think anyone would respond so soon. She rents the cabin to Ryan even though she senses something dark and damaged about him and the adventure begins. As always, Christie’s characters are compelling, engaging and well developed. The updates have made the story fresh and have eliminated any dated references that can sometimes distract from an older book. I’m looking forward to rereading (sort of) the whole series.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy, and I'm leaving a voluntarily review.

This is the fascinating story of Poppy Walker and Ryan Hamilton. At first, these two people seem to be very different from each other. But as they get to know each other, we realize that they, other than wealth, they are not so different after all.

Poppy’s father owned cabins in the mountains when Poppy was growing up. Unfortunately, now they are run down and have not been used in years. Poppy decides to restore he cabins and resurrect the family business. Even though she wants this to be a family project, her brother and sisters refuse to help. They think she is crazy for even thinking of it.

Ryan is a former TV and movie actor who no longer acts. He now works in the financial side of the business, and he appears to be very wealthy. Unfortunately, March, for the last several years, has been a difficult month for Ryan. Because of this, he decides to find a private place so he can close himself off from the world until April. Why he hates March is a secret that he doesn’t’ explain until much later in the story.

Ryan urges Poppy to let him stay at one of her cabins. Sadly, there is a terrible rainstorm which causes damage to their cabin. They are forced to move into Ryan’s gigantic house.
There are a lot of obstacles that affect Ryan and Poppy’s life such as paparazzi trouble, Poppy’s ex-husband and Ryan’s feelings toward Poppy’s young son. But, Ryan’s secret is strongest barrier that comes between this couple.
Also, the secondary characters are very intriguing. Charley Walker, Poppy’s cousin, and Liam Hamilton, Ryan’s brother, meet and slowly fall in love. This is a slow-moving love story that is told in movie script form written by Liam. However, there is an obstacle for them to overcome become they can become a couple.

This author, also, introduces us to Poppy’s family: her brother, Brett, and her sisters, Mackenzie and Shay. These quirky characters do not get along with Poppy because they think she has crazy ideas. Each of them will get their own book, and I have a feeling they will be a lot of fun to read.

I enjoyed this couple’s story, even though, I often got angry with Ryan and his stupid attitude. Both Poppy and Charley are very strong and independent women who know their own mind and refuse to depend on their men. The men are also strong, but their strength is tempered with kindness and sensitivity.

I highly recommend this book.

Poppy Walker is a dreamer, mother, and a woman on a mission. Her family does not support her so much, but she hopes to change their minds and bring them on board with her idea of creating the family legacy.

They own some run down cabins that Poppy wants to renovate and rent out in the summer and winter months. But these cabins need a lot of work and her family thinks she is living in the clouds.

Ryan Hamilton is a child star turned director. He is well known in Hollywood. However when March comes around, he likes to hide and avoid the media, people, friends, and life all together. He is going through a rough patch and does every year for the past 4 years every March. But just March.

Ryan and Poppy run into each other in the small town grocery store, but Poppy has no clue who Ryan is, even if he is in disguise. She also has an ad out for her cabins that are available for rent, but for next summer, which she forgot to put on the flyer. Ryan shows up and wants to rent a cabin and thinks it is perfect with no tv, no internet, no interruptions.

Once Poppy's son, Mason, returns from his trip to Disney World, Ryan backs off and becomes distant from Poppy and she does not understand why. When Ryan is dropping them off back down in town since there was a tree incident, he runs up to her and gives her a kiss goodbye, little did he know that the paparazzi was there, and caught it all. He swoops in and takes Poppy and Mason to his fancy mansion on the water.

Ryan tries to keep his distance from Mason, but Mason knows he is the Duke and is constantly following him around and making him maps of good hiding places and escape routes around his property. Ryan does not want to get attached to Mason, at all. It is March, he does not want this!

Poppy and Ryan try to avoid their attraction to each other, but it just doesn't work. These two have some major chemistry and heat up the pages.

Can Poppy really make something work with a "flatlander" if she is really in love? And can Ryan really let someone in again after all of the pain he has been through in the last 4 years?

I loved re-visiting Poppy and Ryan again. It has been awhile since I read this series. This is an updated version of Take My Breath Away under a new title, One Look.

I did not love the book nor did I hate it. I felt for a romance novel it was sort of mediocre. Poppy the main character who wants to revitalize her family cabins into the glory it once was when her father ran them. Ryan Hamilton had a bad experience in march and was trying to find a hidden getaway where no one would recognize who he is. Ryan is a famous actor and a Hollywood Executive. These two cross paths and begin to have a romance. There is chemistry but I felt like the story lacked something. I still cannot put my finger on it what it is that made me not love this book. I did like Poppy son Mason that part of the book made me smile and feel good. Lucas is Ryan brother who dated one of Poppy's cousins in the past. Poppy sibling wants to sell the cabins they think that Poppy cannot get the cabins up and running again. I think there was to much going on that pulled away from the romance.

The plot reasoning was flimsy in a way that made me think of some YA nooks i’ve read. There was quite a bit of text that was repeated. For example a character would say a sentence or two and then these lines were repeated in the mind of the character listening. This happened a couple times a chapter in the second half of the book. Lot of angst was the result of death of a loved one. All four main characters lost a close person or two. The love scenes were longer than i like especially toward the end of the book. I read a longer version of this by about 100pgs, titled One Look, which included more about the second couple which i enjoyed. Overall, i thought the book could have been shorter and snappier, and the characters better developed. I liked the emotion and the setting.

Great book. Love the Walker family and the Small town they live in. This is the story of Poppy Walker and Ryan Hamilton(aka Harris). Ryan is looking for a place to hide out for the month of March. It seems to be a bad month for him. He finds where Poppy has put up notices to rent a cabin. The chemistry is so strong between Poppy and Ryan that she refuses to rent a cabin to him until he offers 4 times her asking price..... What begins as a week in seclusion turns into a wild adventure for both.
He finds she is keeping secrets and.... He well he wasnt completely honest with her and he is hiding some serious heartbreak.

The main character Poppy felt unreal and unbelievable, more times quite annoying. Her character which has been burned so badly in her only serious relationship which ended abruptly with a positive pregnancy test, she climbed fast back into poor decisions. The book was mere fluff I guess. I had read Make me lose control (cabin 2) book first and it wasn't too bad so I decided to read this one. OMG, if I had read this book first I would not have even thought of reading the 2nd in the series. I will definitely not be reading the other books in this series after this major waste of time. All that being said, book 2 was a bit better and more believable.

One Look is the first book in the One and Only series. It was previously published as Take My Breath Away. Poppy is determined to fix up her family’s mountain cabins and make the resort a success once again. She has ten days to make a start at it while Mason, her son, is on vacation with his cousins. Ryan is hiding from the month of March. When he finds the resort and asks for one of the cabins and peace, she agrees. When Ryan's location is discovered, it brings a strings of problems along with heartache. Will they make it through? This was an enjoyable book.

This was really two stories in one and the second story was told as a screen play sort of. Poppy wants to get the family cabins in shape to be rented out for the summer season, but it is March and she gets an offer she cannot refuse. Ryan is a Hollywood bad boy who is trying to escape the perils of March. Linus cannot forget the postal clerk he met last summer. This one was okay, I kind of wish that Poppy and Ryan had their own story that was not interrupted by Linus and Charlie. The screenplay affect was just irritating.

I am a new Christie Ridgway reader and I enjoyed this book but it was slow getting around to the real story. Poppy Walker wanted to restore cabins on her family property but without enough money, she was having trouble. She was able to rent one of the cabins to Ryan Hamilton who needed to get away from Hollywood and especially in the month of March, which never held good memories for him. The story was interesting but not attention grabbing.

Wow. This book was unexpected. It had great plot twists, that’s for sure. It’s a book I normally would’ve picked up and read and felt nothing after but I learned a lot from this book and I thank the author for that. I think Ridgeway wrote a ton of meaningful things in this book and it was well worth the 10 days it took to read it. I think it was the first I have read of hers but now she’s most definitely on my WTR shelf for future reads.

In typical Ridgeway fashion, two opposites attract and romance sizzles. It does also have the typical subplot with another romance relating to the main characters of the book. I liked that there was a child involved, but the whole "I'm a single mother, I can't have romance" thing seems like such BS nowadays. I would've liked to hear about the actors that got together, because their romance sounds adorable.

OMG ! I could not put this book down. Christie Ridgway is an amazing author!!!

Poppy and Ryan met just before a storm came through and would forever change their lives. Ryan hid his identity from Poppy to protect her and her son Mason but he had good reasons for it as he was really trying to protect himself. Ryan and Poppy were able to come to the realization they loved each other and together they can do anything and they need each other

I love Christie Ridgway's books! I have yet to read one I don't like! This one does holds true to her great writing! I LOVED falling in love with Poppy & Ryan. The mighty fall hard when they are felled.

The story was fine. The characters were deep enough to get interested in. But the writing felt forced.

Coming off a Christine Feehan I was happy for the lighter and happier story. However, I was also spoiled by the expert character writing.
