After a night of mistakes and misunderstandings, Ryan Marsh thinks he's back on the road to redemption. All he needs to do is convince the court-appointed counselor that he's just fine. But when counseling intern Kellie Cavanaugh sees the stark pain in Ryan's eyes, she knows that without her help he's headed for disaster. Soon it's Kellie who's in trouble. She can't get personally involved, no matter how drawn to Ryan she might be. When they end up volunteering for the same community project, Kellie can't deny her growing feelings. I live in Northern Lower Michigan with my husband and our three adorable dogs. I enjoy the Great Lakes, anything outdoors, and a really strong cup of coffee.
My love of fairy tales as a kid paved the way for me to create my own happily-ever-after stories. My passion grew in writing flawed characters who realize their need to trust God before they can trust each other.

I liked the underlying story more than I liked the romance itself, which as usual for this series--seems a bit rushed. The story itself had many good life lessons.

We like to think we're in control, when really, we're not in control of anything. God is.

We can't run away from our problems. If the problems aren't dealt with in a healthy way, we end up dealing with them in an unhealthy way.

Sometimes God's answer is no. Sometimes God's answer is wait.

There are consequences to our choices and actions.

Dorrie doesn't want Hannah and Gracie to know Karl is their father. I don't remember how old the girls are. I do remember one is older and the other younger. Does Dorrie really think they won't figure it out at some point? How does she explain their Aunt Kellie and their grandparents? I can't remember if in the story they are told that Karl is Kellie's brother but at some point, logically, they're going to figure out it's a possibility. (We aren't told if the girls are told Karl's their father, but at the Thanksgiving dinner one of the girls does ask about Karl.)

I can understand Kellie's fear of relying too much on anyone and of being romantically involved with someone. Both open us up to the potential of hurt. We know that Kellie was a cutter at some point in her life--I can't remember now if she got real counseling to deal with it or if she just kind of used her high school counselor's interest and Christianity to cope. I wonder if she ever feels the impulse to do it now or if she's found healthier ways to cope. Interesting since the author gives us insight into Ryan's thought process on this recovery process, but we don't hear Kellie's--at least not about cutting--we do see some of her insecurities about trusting others and the worry that she'll end up involved with an addict.

Kellie and Ryan's story was a good one. I liked the overall story and the characters. I liked the secondary characters too. It really made me think about my own life. Am I trusting God enough, not trying to control my own life and letting God help me? Ryan has made mistakes but he's trying to redeem them and do better. Kellie is a counselor and although she's not Ryan's counselor, she doesn't always give him the benefit of a doubt. It's somewhat understandable because of the past she's dealt with but I got frustrated with her at times. She's supposed to want people to change and yet can't trust Ryan will change? It goes back to the thought that our past really does shape who we are. As I said, I really did like the story overall.

I really had my eyes opened up when I read Season of Redemption Ryan and Kellie's story. We all try so hard to think we can control our lives instead of God. Ryan loses his fiancé in a terrible accident and his brother Sinclair takes off on a mission soon after. Ryan feels deserted and full of guilt over what happened thinking he could have prevented the accident. One night of bad choices lands Ryan in Kellie Cavanaugh's office who's interning for Lighthouse Center in LeNaro, MI. Kellie instantly feels a connection with Ryan Marsh and sees the pain in his eyes. She recommend Ryan to do group counseling and he's not happy about it not one bit. They both end up volunteering at the same community project and continually running into each other. Kellie is fighting her own problems with control and trust but can't deny their attraction to one another. Can they let God take control of their lives and have a chance at love?

I loved how this book personifies the title. "Season of Redemption" is the true underlying theme of this book. It shows the real life struggle that we fight to survive on a daily basis. We all have hurts and this story is about how, even though we may not make the right choices when it comes to dealing with those hurts, there's always forgiveness and help if you just ask for it. You can always make a conscious choice to make the right decision, and this story shows what happens when you don't make that decision... as well as what could happen if you do. It was a fantastic read that I could not put down. :)

Excellent book about mistakes and trust and learning to love. Kellie is about to become a school counselor. During her internship she meets Ryan. One thing after another leads to friendship then stronger feelings but Kellie doesn't want to deal with Ryan's issues all her life. So she pushes him away.

Ryan can't figure out what's up with Kellie. They get along great and have good chemistry, but she can't trust him because of foolish choices he's made. But can't she see that he is changing?

"Mindel's characters show strong growth and development, especially Kellie, as they learn that love always involves risk, as they learn that love always involves risk, but God is always faithful - and no one is beyond redemption (RT Book Reviews)". 4 stars
