You've seen it all before. A spilled truck of super chemicals infect an entire population of Wood Storks. The seemingly innocent birds turn into menacing creatures of evil. By beak, by eggs, by bird-innovation, they will kill everyone in their path.
Carter King only wanted to visit his hometown after eight years of absence. Trying to confront his emotions involving the tragic accident that cost someone their life, he revisits a painful part of his past. Not only does he have to atone for his sins, he must do battle with a fleet of storks while dodging a band of shotgun totting lunatics and endure the charms of a local nymphomaniac with a penchant for butchering men.
Storks is a novella of emotion, devastation, tragedy, sexuality, gore and bird domination.
Watch the skies, because you are not ready for Storks.
It’s kind of shocking how many books that I’ve read involving killer storks. Like, of all the animals, you’d like maybe snakes, spiders, or whatever else, but, somehow, storks are up there. This, much like some of Alan Spencer’s other shorter stories, moved at breakneck speed and didn’t have enough time to bring everything full circle. Just felt like a bunch of random plot points tossed around. This needed to be a great deal longer to appease horror fans like myself, who were looking for a fun, stork-filled blood bath.
Remember Hitchcock's The Birds? This is a version of that on steroids. Not only that, there's another storyline of a family hunting a man that recently came back to the small town after a tragic accident years ago. This blends a bit of humor with the horror, such is the kind of stuff I love
You've seen it all before. A spilled truck of super chemicals infect an entire population of storks hanging out in the Florida everglades. The seemingly innocent birds turn into menacing creatures of EVIL. By beak, by egg, by bird- innovation, they will kill everything in their path!
Pretty quick and easy read. A fun homage to B-movie creature feature movies. Good, but not as good as some of his other creature stories.
