On the Isle of Thrall, men dominate and women submit. There is no in between.
Mr. Mason is a psychologist with questionable methods and often unethical practices. When an interested employer invites him to Thrall, he never expects the world that awaits him. All women are slaves. Naked and collared, they exist solely to please the men who own them.
And as he soon finds out, the pleasure they offer is unequal to any he's ever found before.
One young woman catches his attention. The pet of his host, Leeta shows him just how much fun a properly trained slave can be. Little does he know the dark past that brought her to Thrall or the single promise that will keep her bound in submission forever.
A CALLING TO THRALL is a 7,500 word erotica featuring BDSM themes including bondage, domination, kidnapping, slave auctions, pet play, pony play, and dark sexual encounters. This is a work of fiction meant for an adult audience. The author does not condone or endorse any of the behaviors carried out by its characters.
JENA CRYER is a true Southern girl who loves grits, cornbread, and lots and lots of leather. Originally from Mississippi, she and her husband now live in Texas. HIS BLACK PEARL is her debut novel. When not writing, Jena enjoys reading, traveling, and getting tied up by her husband.
An introduction to Thrall, and Mr Mason. I should have read this before reading His Black Pearl and His Black Beauty, it clarifies a lot. However, I have read this in retrospect of the next two books about Thrall, and in one way I'm glad I did as it makes the event and where Mr Mason comes in, who he is and his role far more understandable.
I have a love hate relationship with Thrall and life there. I would hate for it to be real and exist, and yet the stories I find so erotic, but wrong. If you like dark, rape fantasy and non con please try this series.
It is good despite being a short intro story and as such I have to say 4 stars.
Firstly kidnapping, rape ... Secondly I hate the fisherman and Brian, they are creepy filthy bustards. In His black Pearl the Italian shopkeeper was more humane. I would have liked to read more of her current life and less about her treatment while kidnapped which makes me feel horrified.
No much I can say about Mr Mason, a future master? I did not particularly liked him but we did not learn much about him other than his occupation was needed on Thrall for training proposes.
I liked how we got a little more insight of Thrall. Overall beautiful writing and I'm captivated by the world of Thrall
A Calling To Thrall is a delightfully short and simple introduction to the Thrall world created by Ms. Cryer. Typical of works of this type the book contains extremisms regarding gender roles, i.e. men rule and women serve as slaves, and some harsher elements such as kidnapping and forced sexual slavery that might be objectionable to some readers. Please keep in mind that this is a work of fantasy and as such the concept of SSC (Safe, Sane & Consensual) does not wholly have to apply. Yes the book is short as others have pointed out, but the story is concise and easy to follow though I thought there was room for potential elaboration on a couple of points. But the works serves its purpose, to give us a taste of what the Thrall series is all about. And as of this writing the book is Free so if you have even the slightest reservations about whether this type of writing suits your personal tastes, here is your chance to find out without potentially wasting money on something you may not like. Personally, I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
This book was hard for me to rate because of the subject matter. The author does a masterful job of describing the predicament the kidnapped girl goes through on her way to becoming a slave. I could have cried as I felt her pain (and I generally like the fantasy of being kidnapped). So the writing gets an "A" from me and the horror of the abduction is so disturbing that it gets an "F." I want to be fair to the author. This short story is very well done, although it ends abruptly. Just know that you are not getting into an erotic read, but rather a dark, disturbing read and you will be fine.
There was a sample of Jena Cryer's full-length novel, His Black Pearl, at the end of A Calling To Thrall so I read the first 3 chapters and I was hooked. I am now reading the full book and it appears to be very well done (review to come).
A very short and well written story which adds some insight into the island of Thrall first mentioned in His Black Pearl. The blurb is somewhat misleading since the POV is Leeta's and not Mr. Mason's. It is still free and worth reading if you've read His Black Pearl.
Well, this was a very short read, but a short story packed full of punch. Exactly what I expected as I’ve already read the Black pearl and loved it. This story made me feel sad. I loved the story of the human dog, who is clearly loved by her master, but she’s definitely suffering from a mental illness, the devastating loss of her first love. I loved how the author introducing us to the idea of Thrall, she dives straight into the sex, the fact the girl is a beloved pet, being used for her masters pleasure. Then we are transported back through her eyes of how she arrived at this point. This made me feel sad and sorry for her. Masters friend is a physiologist which is a contrast in what is going on at a Thrall. He should be helping the girls deal with their trauma, but instead he’s there to help the girls accept the new situation/conditions. Is it right?… this book is too short to decide. This book is for me a taster to hook the reader to go into more, and if I hadn’t already read the series and strangely loved it, then I would definitely go onto more.
Books like this always have to hit me at exactly the right moment. Any time outside that sweet spot and I'd probably rate a story like this closer to 3 stars. On the other hand this is the second story by this author I've read and the second I've rated highly. So .... maybe the author and I are just lucky as to when I try her stories.
I suppose I should actually say more but . . .. Hmm. I was vaguely annoyed when the story flipped from Thrall to a man and woman on a jetski in the US, but then I got distracted by the bikini top being removed and well . . . Let's just go back to this hitting at the correct time and in correct way.
This story is about a place named Thrall. It's a place where the women are slaves with no rights. They exist to serve and entertain the men. The scene in Thrall we see is about Mr Mason who is a psychologist who is getting a job at Thrall to help train the pets the men want to play with. The actual story of this short book is about Leeta and her abduction and resulting sale to the owners of Thrall. We don't know what type of pet Leeta is but we do know she is led around on a lease and hasn't walked on two legs in years. I believe this is a teaser for another one of Ms. Cryers books.
This story was good it is a very short about a girl kidnapped and sold. Accepting her future with no escape having lived in this lifestyle for years she seems a subject of Stockholm Syndrome. Her Master dotes on her as long as she does what he wants sex slavery and reduces her existence to that of a pet but with sex as the main role of her servitude. This was a good story I should read this one before His Black Pearl.
Amazing read again. There are some light dark things in this book, but they make the story better. I like the flashbacks in it and seeing some familiar persons in it.
And there are some erotic hot moments in it, beautiful Looking forward to read more from this writer
The author certainly gets the heat. going. It may be short but it certainly gets going. I've gone straight to buy the next one. Pet play is NMK but the island of Thrall sounds like heaven
After an severe accident with her boyfriend, discovers he is injured and possibly dead. She goes for help but is kidnapped and sold to the highest bidder. Now she serves as an Erotic Pet giving yourself over to total submission.
It's short, simple, and delivers on the kidnap/slave fantasy in a straight-forward way, whilst still adding in a tiny bit of melancholy. Being kidnapped is not all hearts and flowers after all.
I only give it 3 stars, because I dislike when magic potions are used. There's no female aphrodisiac in existence that results in a behaviour anywhere near that of the girl in the story. And therefore her subjugation feels a bit boring to read, because it has no hold in reality. It crosses too much into the realm of fantasy as opposed to fiction. It's like in Harry Potter where he gets the potion that makes him super lucky and everything just starts going the way he desires - it's that potion that's used in this book; it makes the girl behave the way her captors want her to, which is super convinient for the plot! It's the deus ex machina potion.
A Calling to Thrall deals with human slavery and how it works; and it is here in the United States where a young girl falls into the hands of evil men intent on selling her after she runs to get help for her boyfriend in an accident. In A Calling to Thrall shows the worst side of human nature where men make women into pets for their pleasure. It is well written with the flashbacks of the girl into how she learns to accept what life has given her. This is not a light romantic read but a look at the darker side of human nature.
A 27 y/o woman was abducted then sold in a sex auction when she was virginal 18 y/o. She now lives in Thrall which is an isolated and independent nation somewhere. For some reason she feels guilty for the accidental death of her boyfriend which occurred around the time of her abduction. Not my cup of tea. House pet crawling around with a collar, ponygirl with arms strapped behind her back. Not my cup of tea.
