Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger. Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.
Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

I can see listening to these as the perfect compliment to my day to day. There ar e always multiple storylines but I think the most incredible moments for me was Cat becoming a vampire and finding out she survives on undead blood. Cat is turned by Bones and they are slowly learning her potential. I am loving the development of their relationship. The beginning of the story found them torn apart by Cat's insistence on going after Gregor on her own. It was quite a side quest but I knew Cat and Bones would reunite. This series is so incredible I an excited to continue on to the next audio book This Side Of The Grave Dramatized Adaptation
Secrets don’t stay buried for long—and Cat Crawfield finds that out the hard way. With her identity exposed and a dangerous vampire from Bones’s past back for blood, the stakes are higher than ever. The action is fast, the tension delicious, and Cat’s struggle to fully embrace her vampire side adds real depth to her growth. A darker, sharper installment that delivers danger, loyalty, and just enough emotional punch to keep you hooked—fangs and all. 🧛♀️🔥
Destined for an Early Grave (Dramatized Edition) is a graphic audio published by the company Graphic Audio and written by Jeaniene Frost, based on the fourth book in her Night Huntress series, Destined for an Early Grave. Cat and Bones decided to take a vacation to France, but all is not well because Cat is now having dangerous dreams about a vampire named Gregor. A vampire that Cat has a history with, but even she doesn't remember that. How can Cat and Bones confront Gregor for his transgressions?
This story started off in a really convoluted way and I was not expecting to like this novel as much as I did. I thought the idea that Cat had a history with a "secret" vampire but she didn't know it was very sloppy writing at first, but when the pieces started to fall into place I could see that the author put much more thought into this book than I had originally suspected. (This of course is the dramatized adaption so it's not exactly like the book, but the execution of this adaption was awesome.)
The spicy scenes were good and I liked them even more after Bones and Cat were reunited (IYKYK [if you know, you know]). I'm giving the spicy scenes three point five chilies 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 out of five chilies
After finding out the premise of this addition to the Night Huntress series, I was not expecting the story to be good. The story was great, it had action, it gave me mini heart attacks, and I sat on the edge of my seat while reading this. I'm giving this 5 stars, not only because I really liked it but because it subverted my expectations, and I'm happy about that. I'm giving this 5 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 5/5 Stars
Basic Plot: Cat and Bones discover an event from Cat's past that could alter their future together if they can't figure out how to win their fight to stay together.
Relationships aren't easy, even ones that are seemingly meant to be. "Happily ever after" has to be fought for. The idea that Cat was stolen away when only 16 and claimed by another vampire (but had her memory wiped of the whole event) is, frankly, ridiculous- like something out of a bad soap opera- but Frost made it work pretty well. The resulting emotions and misunderstandings between Cat and Bones led to an emotional roller coaster. There were moments in the book when the reader genuinely wonders if their whole relationship is going down in flames. This is what got me. The emotional angst is written terribly well, and with my own experience with divorce, well, let's just say it hit home.
The characters remain consistent, and Vlad actually grows as a favorite character of mine. Gregor was an a**hat, and it bothered me that adult Cat kept saying she'd "Had feelings for him," making it sound like those feelings were romantic. The control he had of her when she was young, and how he continued to treat her as an adult, made him an abuser. The emotions described were mostly of fear. The Graphic Audio did this bit better than the actual book, which I appreciate.
This in combination with the addition of YET MORE POWER CREEP is what keeps the book from being 5 stars. Seriously, turning Cat into a full vampire (who is still special from the rest with having to drink from vampires not humans, and being able to absorb their powers by doing so) again manages to up the power level of her game. Nevermind that she no longer has access to her secret government organization (yet still manages to use it at one point in the book). Oy.
What a near miss. I finished the third book, still thinking I quit somewhere in... the middle? At the beginning? Turns out I just suppressed the memory of everything that went wrong with it. This one had the same problem but before I could give up, hope resurfaced in the from of something we have all seen coming a mile away. And turned out to have a good twist to make it worth my while.
To avoid any spoilers, let me just say I really, really dislike Cat sitting on her hands. Makes her... crazy. Which makes me super frustrated. I really like Cat. I may like Bones even more. The side characters are usually just as delightful but the story about Cat kicking vampire ass feels drastically different from the one who gets pulled back at the first sign of trouble, is constantly being saved and treated with kid gloves. And I would grumble about that, about Bones having all the fun we do not see and Cat just feeling sorry for everything her existence brings about but Cat is still herself and she does not take her lot in life sitting down. Mess ensues and drama too and so does angst and all the terrible things they bring with them until I hardly recognized what this series is about.
I will say the next book will be critical. (I mean, 3 books remain in the series but the point stands.) Will Cat return to actually being the main character of her own story? Let's find out.
(Still glad for the Graphic Audio version, part of what makes Bones so cool is actually hearing that voice out loud - I tried reading the third book and I kept saying his parts in the exact same style - it just wasn't the same.)
2.5 stars. ok, i know that this is reread but how did i not notice all of this polt holes?? like really, the worldbuliding is such a mess. you disagree? ok then let me ask you some questions: what is a master vampire? like what is the diffrence between a master and a normal vampire? why can some vampires fly? why can some see the future and others can not? how does Gregors dream power work?! since when is it problematic for one vampire to kill another? i thought that Bones was making money of killing vampires so how is it a problem now? like there are so many questions just concerning the worldbuilding.
oh well, i still really dislike Kat, like really i just can't get along with her personality. the book did get an extra star though, because Bones for ones turned his head on and was like "yeah, this woman treats me like an stupid piece of shit". like that was fun.
will i read book 5? yes. but i need a break. So I will go and read Bones perspektive in "Both feet in the Grave" 😂. Double Standarts. i know, i know.
Another great one from Jeaniene Frost. Listening to the dramatized adaptations of this series has been a truly enjoyable experience. I’ve both read and listened to this series numerous times and listening to the DAs has brought a favored series to me in a new way.
I was a tiny bit disappointed with some of the narration. In my opinion there were a few lines that were not quite delivered the way I would have expected. This book had a number of zingers and some of them fell flat for me. Although that may be because my original interpretations of the words are seared into my mind from when I first came across them.
I’ve listened to the regular audiobook before but now hearing the graphic audio version was absolute chefs 😘! The raging speech Bones gives Cat when he leaves is so powerful! I remember in the regular audiobook it got me emotional but listening to this version made it come out like a movie and I completely loved it!!! I do loved Tavia Gilbert’s narration in the regular audios so I think I will be listening to both version for the rest of the series. 🥰

I got a notification from my library that these books were done with graphic audio and I couldn't resist. The original narrator Tavia Gilbert didn't do the new ones but it works. AND.OH.MY.GOD!! VLADS NARRATOR? HOLY MOLLY!! HAHAHAHA! They only did the Night Huntress but we'll do it for now. Hopefully in the future they'll bring the rest of the universe!
Came for the sexy vampires, stayed for the life lessons on the importance of emotionally honest and open communication in long term romantic relationships. Things got a little too real there, especially with the full cast audiobook.
I really really enjoyed listening to it this way, my only complaint would be in the French words, as a French native the horrible pronunciation sometime took me out of the serious moments 🤣 but everything else was thoroughly enjoyable
