DENVER Accidentally receiving an explicit pic from my best friend was a surprise, but my reaction to it was a shocker. Last year, with one text, my eyes were opened to an attraction that’s grown into so much more.
No matter what my feelings are, he’s still my best friend and I’ll always have his back. So when he shows up at my door needing a place to live, I don’t think twice.
Having him so close and not being together is harder than I thought, but it’s better than losing him completely.
When an unexpected gift changes his life, I’m there and commit to helping him raise the child he’s always wanted, regardless of my own heart.
FORD I never expected to become a single dad. I always thought I’d be settled when it happened; be in a relationship, have a home, promoted at my job, basically living my picket fence dreams.
While my life may not be going according to my plans, I at least have my ride-or-die best friend here by my side through it all.
At first, I thought it was the sleep deprivation, but as time goes on, I’m starting to realize that seeing him with my son is doing unexpected things to my body and my heart. If I’ve learned anything recently, it’s to take a chance on the unexpected.
Just when I feel like I have a handle on my new life, my work leave gets cut short.
A serial killer is on the loose and my team is called on to help catch him. I’m left torn between my duty as a detective, being a new father, and my rapidly growing feelings for my best friend.
Will everything end up sunshine and rainbows or will our destiny be like dark cloud with lightning ready to strike us down?
Single dad ✔️ Best friends to lovers ✔️ Heartwarming romance ✔️ Spice 🌶 ✔️ Laura John has done it again! She is always able to produce quality, heartwarming romance novels with alternating perspectives. Throughout the book you are able to become a part of Denver and Ford's world. Worth the read if any of the items mentioned above are what you are looking for!
Book two in the Hunter Security series was, in my opinion, not as enjoyable as book one.
I said pretty much the same thing on my review of Nixon but this reads like fanfiction, with everyone and everything (including the baby???) feeling like a plot device. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I really didn't mind it in Nixon at all, but in Denver it kind of had the opposite effect of making the book fly by and draw me in. It felt like it dragged on and was pretty repetitive.
Also, and I know this is not the point of the novel, the Newborn Baby Life was... Not Correctly portrayed. Ford wanted to be a father badly enough to end a long term relationship over it (valid reason, I'm not knocking him for it) but then as soon as he got his son home from the hospital, he just. Put him in his crib and left him to sleep. There was a lot of just. Putting the baby in the crib and leaving him there. He was either used as an eye opening "Wow look at that man take care of that baby. That's so attractive." moment or he was in his crib. Plot Device Baby.
Honestly, I skimmed the last... probably 30-40%? Which was a shame because that was where all the actual plot was, but by that point I just... wasn't invested enough in it to really try to absorb anything.
I will definitely give book three a shot, but I might read something else first to give myself a little reset.
DENVER by Laura John, book two in the Hunter Security series, is Denver and Ford's story.
Denver and Ford have been best friends their entire lives and one little man changes their lives completely and forever when he brings them closer than they've ever been.
Denver and Ford's journey brings a smile to your face and pulls on your heartstrings in so many different ways. Their story starts off really sweet, becomes suspenseful, rips your heart out and then puts it back together.
I can not wait to see what comes next from the Hunter Security team.
Get ready for... mm, best friends, roommates, single dad, sexual awakenings (bisexual), first times, law enforcement (detective), slow burn, hurt/comfort, suspense, and told in the dual first-person point of view.
Warnings... death (parent), stalker, serial killer, trauma (brain injury)

This was a cute, relatively low angst friends to lovers romance. Denver & Ford were really cute together, and watching them juggle Ford's newborn son Sammy together was really sweet.
However, the bi-awkenings, falling into a routine with the baby, and their relationship going from friends to more all felt very quick, and that meant I personally struggled to feel invested in their story. Everything just felt too easy, even towards the end of the book, when something happens that could give the perfect opportunity for a bit more emotional upheaval it is rectified pretty quickly. I guess I just wanted more depth to the emotion of the story than there was. If you're looking for a sweet low angst read, then this is for you. 🌶🌶
This is definitely not for me. I made it to almost 40%, and not a single mystery aspect had been revealed. On top of that, it was incredibly boring -- the two MCs (Denver and Logan?) have almost identical voices, and I couldn't keep their chapters straight. Plus, nothing happened beyond Denver's girlfriend having a baby for Denver to raise. I honestly was surprised at how boring and uninteresting this was -- and maybe if I kept going, the mystery would've piqued my interest, but I'm not betting on it. Just not for me.
Enjoyed this but felt like things were rushed. Nixon and Dante got together really fast and so did Denver and Ford. I enjoyed reading about their relationships but would have liked a little more build up. Still going to keep reading this series.
This series promises some angst, and I know I'll regret it later, but I need to read some angst-y things right now. Here's Laura John's Hunter Security series. The second novel is "Denver." ["DENVER Accidentally receiving an explicit pic from my best friend was a surprise, but my reaction to it was a shocker. This one happened quickly. The feelings. The romance. The love. It was so natural and perfect and happy.
It could have easily ended there. A novella. Fluffy, spicy, short.
But it didn't. Then, they went back to work and the serial killer case got more attention and...shit happened (everyone is okay--except the serial killer). But it all definitely added drama and suspense and angst and I sobbed. So worth the read.
Trigger Warnings: detective work (serial killer, dead and abused missing young girls, off-page child abuse, off-page sexual assault, and more)
Denver by Laura John is the second book in the Hunter Security Series. This MM best friends to lovers romance story is about Denver and Ford.
Denver and Ford are best friends and have been there for each other through every single milestone. A year ago, Denver accidentally received an explicit picture from Ford, and it made Denver reconsider his sexuality as well as his feelings for Ford. He keeps this to himself and doesn't mention it to Ford. When Ford's girlfriend breaks up with him, Denver continues to hide his feelings for Ford and lets him move into his home. They are always there to support one another, and this holds true when Ford finds himself a single dad. Ford has always wanted a family and is concerned about raising this child alone, but Denver reminds him he isn't alone and that he will be there to help raise the child.
Denver definitely steps up and is a tremendous help to Ford and baby Sammy. Ford starts to see Denver in a different light, and he realizes he has feelings for Denver. I appreciated how Ford communicated this to Denver, and it made Denver finally admit his feelings for Ford. I understand why Denver wanted to take things slow, but I was happy when things finally progressed. I enjoyed seeing Denver and Ford go on dates and get all romantic. They were such a sweet couple.
Not only did I like the romance story, but I also enjoyed the suspense. Ford is a detective that has to go back to his job early to help solve a case on a serial killer. Denver's team at Hunter Security is working with a client who has a stalker. I appreciated how Denver took over taking care of Sammy while Ford was at work, but it was just a little too convenient for me when he was able to work from home and bring Sammy into the office. I felt that wasn't feasible in his line of work. Denver has meetings at his company with clients that are in danger and in need of protection, so it didn't make sense to me that you would bring a baby there. I would have preferred it if Denver's mom watched Sammy, or they could have hired a nanny or put him in daycare.
Denver and Ford's relationship was sweet and spicy. They made the perfect team in raising Sammy together. I was surprised at how the story ends, and overall it was an interesting story. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Hunter Security series.
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Denver is Book 2 in the Hunter Security series by Laura John, featuring a sweet, spicy, and emotional best friends to lovers MM romantic suspense story for Denver and Ford. Raise your hand if you’ve ever received a text not meant for you, or accidentally sent one to the wrong person!🙋🏼♀️ Imagine Denver’s surprise when he received an image from his best friend that was DEFINITELY not meant for him. Then his entire world was rocked by the feelings it evoked in him. Here he was in his late 30s feeling attracted to Ford, who had a girlfriend. When Ford found himself single with a baby on the way and in need of a place to live, Denver didn’t hesitate to support him, just like always. As they band together to take care of the colicky baby, watching Denver bond with Sammy begins to awaken new feelings in Ford. Will they find lasting happiness together, or will the danger swirling from Ford’s serial killer case lead them straight into heartbreak and devastation?
If you’re a fan of a self-discovery, best friends to lovers that is a good blend of sweet and spicy with intriguing suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, you should give this book a chance! Denver totally stole my heart, as he put himself through angst and yearning to hide his feelings, in order to be the friend that Ford needed.🥰 I appreciated the authenticity of their issues with newborn Sammy and how valuable a support system really is. The progression of their relationship felt like it fit them. I really enjoyed the suspense aspect brought in by Ford’s case as a detective, and the twists and drama that unfolded as a result. There’s nothing like danger and impending doom to put things in perspective for you! I look forward to getting to know Knox better in the next book!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Denver and Ford have been best friends since they were small boys but it was only when Denver accidentally received an explicit picture from Ford that his eyes were opened to an attraction that has grown. However, he is still his best friend and so when he arrives at the door needing a place to live there is no question that he should move in. When an unexpected gift changes his life, I’m there and commit to helping him raise the child he’s always wanted, regardless of my own heart. Ford never expected to become a single dad but at least he has his ride-or-die best friend by his side through it all. He thought it was sleep deprivation but starts to realise over time that seeing Denver with his son is doing unexpected things to his body and heart so he decides to take a chance on the unexpected. Then his work leave is cut unexpectedly short because of the case of a serial killer and so he is torn between his job as a detective and being a new father with all his new feelings towards his best friend. Will everything end up sunshine and rainbows or will their destiny be like a dark cloud with lightning ready to strike them down?
I really enjoyed this story with the two best friends, the accidental picture sent and the chain of events that were kicked off from that moment. I loved how supportive the colleagues and friends of the two men were and how they helped with the care of little Sammy. I also loved how slowly Ford went in order to help Denver feel comfortable with their change in relationship status. I loved the bonus epilogue that was available to get at the end of the book. Easy to read, feel and understand this was a book to make you go aww. This was an MM story with mature content.
I absolutely love the best friends to lovers trope. Throw in a single dad, and you've got me ready and raring to read the book. And the way the feelings stirred up for Denver? Priceless, honestly.
Unfortunately, the story in itself just felt... off. Don't get me wrong, I loved the story of these two, strong men raising baby Sammy together. A detective and a private security man absolutely melting for a tiny human? Loved it to no end.
But a lot of it... yeah. Didn't sit right. They talked about going slow, but then the spice happens quickly. It was awkwardly paced in places. Some of the "issues" with Sammy just didn't sit well with me (but, to be fair, I am a paediatric nurse, and John did mention in her note at the start of the book some medical liberties may have been taken).
The mystery side of the book also fell short for me. It was something, and then it was nothing. Also, I felt that whilst this book was about Denver and Ford's love story, it focused more on Ford's job, rather than Denver's - it is in the Hunter Security world, so I would have thought more with Denver, if that makes sense. I also struggled with how coincidental it was that Denver's latest client - who I would actually count as Knox's, really - just so happened to link into Ford's case.
I loved the sweet romance story, and how Denver and Ford created their little family with Sammy.
Denver is the second book in Laura John's Hunter Security series. This focuses on best friends, Denver and Ford, as they traverse new parenthood and new feelings between them. Denver offers his home to Ford when he splits up with his ex and then his full support when she informs him she's pregnant but doesn't want to be a mother. It's a shock but something he's always wanted and the two make a perfect team. There may also be something else building on top of their friendship, Denver had his own bi-discovery last year and now seeing Denver with his son is doing something to Ford and the way he sees his best friend. It's a really sweet best friends to lovers romance. I liked that we don't have the will they, won't they dragged on but time is taken for both men to be comfortable with the new direction of their relationship. Being with the baby makes both men show their softer side and it is clearly something that works for them both. There are dates and sweet kisses before moving onto the clinging kisses and heated scenes. It feels like a very natural progression for them and isn't even the biggest shock to those who know them. Sammy is adorable and brings both light relief and extreme tiredness to the couple. What does bring some drama and tense scenes is Ford's work as a detective and the serial killer case he is called back to work on. Denver is a very well balanced story with a lot of friendships, love and heat with a bit of intensity when it comes to both Denver and Fords work. There is a bit of interaction with others at the Hunter Security team and I'm looking forward to the next book. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Ford's ex-girlfriend rings up one day and lets Ford know that she is pregnant and gives him the option of keeping that baby as she is not interested. Denver, Ford's best friend and now roommate, makes sure that Ford knows he is a hundred percent by his side for this single dad adventure. So, that is what happens, Samantha has the baby, and Ford with Denver by his side take the newborn home and proceed to enter life with little sleep. Along the way, Ford realizes that he is looking at Denver a bit differently, and that he is getting a bit more that best friend feelings for Denver. How could this be? He has never been interested in guys before. He wants to share this newfound side of himself with Denver but is scared that he will lose the best friend that has always been by his side. What happens when Ford does share, and Denver reveals that he has a secret he was hiding as well? Will the two's relationship be doomed?
Now this is how to write a single father/bi awakening/best friend romance. Not too long ago I did read something just about the same and it didn't hold a candle to the story that Laura John has spun. I was hooked till the very end; giving us great drama, a bit of mystery and danger, and some really hot naughty moments. I could not get enough! I give this 5 stars.
I loved everything about this book. The book is well written with a great storyline and wonderful characters. Denver and Ford have been best friends since they were small kids. When Denver accidently receives a rather explicit text from Ford (a text Ford meant for his girlfriend) Denver suddenly finds himself weirded out by the feelings the pic stirs within himself along with questions such as am I bi?. Then when Ford and his longtime girlfriend break up, Ford moves in with Denver causing him even more feelings. But he can’t tell his best friend because he’s afraid he’ll lose the close friendship that they have always had.
Ford is a police detective who’s very good at his job. But when he becomes a single parent of an infant his life is thrown for a loop. Luckily he has his best friend Denver to help him. As the two men struggle to find their way with a newborn, Ford suddenly finds himself seeing and feeling things for Denver he’s never noticed before. Is it just the baby and lack of sleep or is it more?
An Outstanding read. I loved it from cover to cover and highly recommend it. As for this reader, I am looking forward to the next book from the Hunter Security Series: Knox
When Ford broke up with his girlfriend the last thing he expected was a few weeks later for her to track him down and inform him she was pregnant, the one thing she never wanted to be. Surprised doesn't cover it, what really surprised him was that she said she'd have the baby and give it to him. She knew how much he wanted to be a father, that was one of the main reasons they broke up. When they broke up he moved in with his best friend Denver. What he didn't know was that Denver's feelings had changed from friendship to so much more. Ford was a reaccuring character in Denver's dreams and now he has living in his home, so when Ford told him about the baby first he was thinking him and his ex was getting back together. But that wasn't the case, so now they're waiting for the baby to be born. Once the baby is born Ford starts to see his friend in a different light, his smile, the way he treats and attends to his son has him thinking of Denver as more than just his best friend. These were two straight men or so they thought until they really looked at each other and they finally realized that the reasons none of their relationships lasted is because they found their person in grade school. CUTE COUPLE!!😍😍
As usual, this author weaves love and life and hope so wonderfully that I got lost in the story. Denver and Ford are already best friends, but when they both realize that they’re harboring feelings that mean so much more, they just have to see where it leads.
I won’t focus on the danger with my review. It’s there, it’s masterfully done, and the hints suck you in completely. But it’s the love story that’s the real focus for me. Because we have an unconventional one here. Ford and Samantha have a baby. But Denver and Ford fall in love. Samantha is 100% the best friend that they both need, as well as Melody and Denver’s mom. And then we have Mary. Mary may disappoint you, but she’ll also surprise you. I can promise that all is not as it seems with her and I was so glad to find the work she puts in to get beyond old, misplaced notions.
So start this one for the love. Stay for the danger. And bask in the glow of a huge, happy family by blood and choice when all is said and done. After all, everyone needs some happy ever after feels in their life. No matter who they are.
Lifetime best friends and roommates find themselves co-parenting an adorable little boy when Ford becomes a single parent. We all know kids will change your life but neither were prepared for just how much!
This entire book will bring a smile to your face. Denver is an incredible friend and so wonderful with baby Sammy. And such a wonderful friend. It’s clear before they even realize it, how perfect they are for each other.
I enjoyed this book – it’s got single dad romance mixed with sweetness and spice and some good suspense as well! Denver and Ford have been friends since they were kids and have such a strong bond, but that gets tested a bit by a text to the wrong person. But when Ford finds himself as a single dad he needs help and Denver is there for him and their bond and feelings grows and becomes more.
Their is a bit of slow burn to their relationship, but it made sense to me and made me appreciate both Denver and Ford and what they go through. I did love them together though and loved their romance! There’s also a good suspense side to this story involving stalkers and serial killers and I really enjoyed that as well. It made for a good balance of romance and suspense and it kept me attention and had me wanting to keep reading.
Definitely enjoyed Denver and Ford, and Sammy too, they make a sweet family! It was a touching journey and I liked seeing these guys find happiness, especially together.
I'll start by saying I really like both the single dad trope, and the best friends to lovers trope, and this book has both of those. So, I dove into Ford and Denver's story. I think the premise and concept was great! I adored the idea of both Denver and Ford raising lil Sammy together, I also liked how there was a bit of mystery with who Ford was investigating.
However, that was glossed over. Or at least that's what it felt like. It felt like it was leading up to this big event, that Ford was going to hunt down the killer and get answers, but what actually happened left me a bit disappointed. Maybe that's just because I was expecting more, but that's just how I felt.
I did like Denver and Ford as a couple, however, I had an issue with how they said they were going to go slow, then got spicy.
Other than those two things I did like the story, I'm interested in who's story is next.
Denver is a security specialist. He lives with his forever friend Ford. He realizes he isn’t exactly straight and that he wants his best friend. Ford, a cop, meanwhile is given the chance of raising his son solo. His plate is overflowing with the baby, but he too has started to develop feelings for his roommate.
There is a mystery (case) that has unexpected consequences but that whole part of the storyline seems a little anticlimactic. I think I expected the police involvement to be a bigger part of the story. Denver’s job just didn’t seem to have much impact. I thought that since the book was second in the Hunter Security series, it should of played a larger part.
I did like the writing and their blossoming relationship was sweet, even if it was a bit overwhelmed with poopie diapers. This was basically just a sweet one on one romance with a little action on the side.

Ford and Denver have been friends since forever. When Ford’s relationship with Samantha goes south, he ends up living at his best friends place. But a few months later Samantha meets up with him and informs him he’s going to be a dad, if he wants the baby. Samantha doesn’t want the baby, she doesn’t wants kids at all. So a few weeks into fatherhood Ford is navigating exhaustion and feelings for his best friend that are scaring the hell out of him. Denver’s dilemma started when his best friend sent him an x-rated picture of his body part by mistake, and he’s been unable to stop thinking of Ford since. These two straight guys are off the charts adorable. Their attraction is mutual but they don’t want to ruin a friendship, so they’re going to take it slow. There’s lots going on besides this great love story. There’s a stalker, a murderer, disgruntled grandma and so much more. I really loved this story, couldn’t put it down. I’m giving this book five stars and highly recommend it.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Denver is the second installment in the Hunter Security series. Denver and Ford have been best friends since their childhood, but in the last year Denver’s attraction toward Ford has grown. Afraid of losing his bestie, he’s kept this to himself. When they learn that Ford’s ex is pregnant, but not wanting to raise the baby, Denver suggests raising the child together. Early into fatherhood Ford realizes he’s falling for Denver too. Unlike Denver he shares these feelings more quickly, and they decide to give things a go.
Can they make things work, or will fatherhood, a career, and life be too much for Ford to handle? Ford’s career as a detective makes things extra dicey as he is hot on the trail of a serial killer. With his paternity leave cut short, what will happen to Denver, Ford, and the baby they are raising together?
This was another amazing installment in series, and now I am anxiously awaiting the third book!!
Denver is the second book in the Hunter Security Series! Denver is the perfect best friends to lover romance!
When Denver receives a text from his best friend Ford that was definitely meant for his girlfriend, he starts to see Ford in a whole new light. Denver and Ford have been best friends forever! When Ford's ex girlfriend lets him know that she is pregnant and doesn't want to keep the baby, Denver steps up in a big way and helps his best friend raise baby Sammy! This is the perfect bi-awakening love story! I loved seeing Denver and Ford as parents and how much they love baby Sammy and each other. Their love story is so sweet and I loved every minute of it.
I loved all of the twists and turns. Laura John know exactly how much spice, suspense and love to through into a book and this book did not disappoint.
🖤 friends to lovers 🖤 double bi-awakening 🖤 single dad
I enjoyed this book and I will give it a 4/5. The plot is well written and the characters are authentic. Denver and Ford grew up together and they are best friends. One night Denver receives a revealing pic of Ford on his phone. Of course it was a mistake and meant for Ford’s girlfriend. But Denver can’t get the pic out of his mind. He does not want his attraction for Ford to ruin their friendship. Ford and his girlfriend break up but she is pregnant. She does not want to be a mom so she she agrees to have to baby for Ford. Denver let’s Ford stay at his house to raise his son. While watching Denver take care I’d his son, Ford realizes he is attracted to Denver. So now both men are attracted to each other and scared to admit it for the sake of their friendship. The two men will have to soul search and talk with each other to see how they are going to move forward.
They say you should always marry your best friend. So what if you're straight, right? This was one of the most interesting concepts that I've read from the author. Best friends. Child hood friends. An innocent accidental picture that sets up an entire book. I adored Denver and Ford. Honestly, they were each other's "person" long before either fell in love. I think this story had so much going on, and I was thrilled. You have friends to lovers, new sexual discovery, the thrill of police and security work and a little something else to juggle as well. Great pacing. Fun characters, that have heat, angst and above all heart. I loved it.
Another win for this author and in this series. If you are new to M/M give these a try. I think you'll be surprised at how much you like it.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I hate the friends-to-lovers trope, but it was a bit different because Denver got his bi-awakening about a year ago, not years of pining his straight best friend, and I didn't like if the ex-lover was mentioned or still in the picture, but Ford's ex-girlfriend was different; she was a good character.
What I'm not fond of is Ford. To build a family and have a child was his dream, but when his son arrived, I felt like Ford was so unprepared and overwhelmed. If Denver wasn't by his side, I don't think Ford ever survived.
Their romantic relationship starts rather quickly, so the rest of the story is about their newly found romance with Sammy, Ford's son in the picture. I think it could end sooner, but the author adds more drama to the story about the serial killer that Ford was dealing with.

Ford & Denver went from being best friends & roomates to lovers raising a baby together. Fords ex girlfriend is pregnant & doesn’t want the baby so Fore agrees to raise the Baby & his best friend Denver agrees to help. Denver realized he had romantic feelings for his best friend a while ago & Fords feelings start showing up when he sees how much Denver loves his son. These two work hard at being dads and the newborn stage is heavily described, all the crying, sleepless nights & feeding schedules mixed in with them discovering their feelings & dating. This is dual POV & very plot heavy. The two men go back to work and their work intertwines with one another so not only are they living together but they do end up working together. Very cute and heartfelt
