The Black Church - Where Women Pray And Men Prey

Rate this book
Black churches were once the cornerstone of the Black community and looked at as a source of guidance and strength. Indeed, the war for freedom waged in the 1960s battle for civil rights was born within the walls of Black churches. But that was then, and this is now. The pews of African American churches are filled with women, many of them lonely single mothers. These women come to church to be spiritually uplifted, but that is not what happens. Instead, twisted Scripture is used by unscrupulous men to manipulate and control them. Church is where black women are being preyed upon sexually, emotionally and financially. Are most pastors in black churches nothing but pimps smiling from the pulpit instead of from a Cadillac? Find out more at www.womenpraymenprey.com.

Ms. Cooper's book was eye opening and the many black women who will read it, will know what to look out for when attending a black church. Also the few black preachers who read it will either change their ways or continue their church game until they get caught. While reading I felt she made black women, who go to black church look mindless. Which is NOT true of all black women who attend a black church.Furthermore Ms. Cooper goes on and on about what black preachers do to manipulate black women. Most of which is true of some black churches but NOT all. Like many authors her writing becomes repetitious after a while. Chapter five was my favorite because it read like an intelligent discussion. Whereas the rest of the book had chapters that started off good, then turned into a lot of church bashing.
I decided to read the book because my Bishop mentioned many things from the book in one of his sermons. However he refused to mention the title and the authors name, so I figued it out and decided to read it.

As someone who has frequented Black churches for many years as an adult as well as growing up Missionary Baptist I feel that this book is 100 percent correct about the issues that plague Black people but mainly Black women in the church. Deborrah speaks facts about the dysfunctions, deceptions and depravity of the sinners that come out to "fellowship" and praise God every Sunday.

Ever wonder why it feels like God is not answering your prayer? Why you are broke even though you tithe and then some? Why you are still single and over 30 and waiting for a husband from God? Deborrah covers all of these topics and then some.

A must read for ALL Black women especially the young (maybe you can avoid the struggle if you learn early on what the game is all about). Save yourself and get this book.

If you want to read someone who is not afraid to tell it like it is, read this well-researched book. The Black church has an enormous influence among African-Americans, which makes its leaders able to wield unchallenged power. The tactics and effects on women are shared by other religious groups as well, but are just beginning to be examined. Collusion with perpetrators is becoming exposed in many denominations and sadly the Black church has not escaped serving male ego over women for power, money and sex.

This is a MUST READ for any committed Black Christian woman. This is an exhaustive critical commentary of the state of the Black church in America. She names names, gives examples of various Church Ministries in the Black community of how they use the Bible to subjugate Black women in the church. Did you know that 60% of the membership of the Black church in America are women?
