I received a free ARC of the book from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My true rating is somewhere between a 4 and 4.5 stars, and I definitely admit I enjoyed this one more than the first book!
I feel like The Bloodline Curse was more getting to know the characters and what they could do and how they were connected, meaning we didn't really get into any "serious" action until later in the book. That said, The Hunter's Curse picked up immediately where the first book ended, launching it into a fast paced novel with constant happenings that easily kept me invested in the reading. I didn't want to put it down!
I also enjoyed the small nuggets of backstory and information that made it pretty easy to catch on to what was going on and refresh the memory of those who may have forgotten some of the previous story. Not to mention, the previous happenings (ie, the Jeep plotline and Anna's plotline, etc. ) were still an active part of the story and didn't just get brushed under the rug to disappear.
I feel like we get to know the characters so much better in this one too! For example, being able to see Jessa's reaction to being nonmagic in a magical group brought a lot of questions of how it would play out once she found out, but despite being bitter, she's still the same "wanna-be-the-best" girl from book one, and honestly I loved that. Tahlia and Margo were still just as great, and I kinda liked the fact that Margo wasn't in as high of focus as she was in The Bloodline Curse, and instead we see a lot more of Tahlia's side of the story and how she's taking in all of the new information and understanding how this could really affect her down the road.
And then there was Callen, who got so much screen time here! I couldn't care less about him in the previous book, but I fell in love with him through this one, so I can't wait to see how his relationship with Izzy develops!
The two things that still prevented it from being a 5-star read:
(1) Without being too spoiler-y, I don't like that the ending did not resolve the issue and instead created yet another thing we have to deal with… despite the title. I can't fully say I hate this choice without knowing how the last book is going to play out, since we did have a lot of new info drop near the end, but it was mildly frustrating to realize we don't yet get that resolve.
(2) I still feel like Riley got the short end of the stick here. He still doesn't seem to get a lot of time on the page (despite this being about breaking the hunter's curse… which I know doesn't just apply to him, but still), the relationship between him and Izzy still comes off as extremely awkward without any spark, and I still know nothing about Riley from when he and Izzy were children. At this point, Callen could steal Izzy away and I wouldn't even care how Riley felt about it because I was never able to relate with him or get invested in his character compared to the others.
Despite everything, I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait for when the third one releases!
I can not express how much I enjoyed this story. We started off right where we left off with "The Bloodline Curse" which is a great way to start a story. No recapping here! This book definitely has more meat to it because now we are in the thick of the curse. We get to see more development between the opposing sides and backstory while also character bonding. We seeing how the curse can make or break friendships and lines between different fractures of the paranormal and this is great to read. It's hard enough being a teenager let alone finding out you are a paranormal on top of it destined to live out a ancient curse. Well this is Izzy's life now. She must overcome the curse to help herself, her family and her friends. This is an actual ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 star rating I received an advance review copy through Booksirens for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I'm sorry but how am I supposed to wait until the end of April for the next one?! I actually want to cry that I'm finished. I'm in love! I'm so bloody in love. I haven't been able to take my eyes away.
I love the characters. I love the setting and the back stories. I just really love everything. I really enjoy all the action but I'm also happy to sit back with the characters while they drink their coffee and have a natter.
I won't say much because it's the second book in the series so I don't want to risk spoilers but these books are excellent. The second one was just as good as the first which can sometimes be rare in a series.
If you love all things witchy, then please read this book and come chat with me about it! I cannot wait until April!
I absolutely loved this and would have finished it in one sitting if I didn't have to stop to go to work. That is the absolute worst 😫
Izzy and her friends are witches, and her boyfriend inherited the hunter's curse, so pretty soon, instead of caring for her, Riley will be trying to murder her. The group is searching for a way to break the curse.
Book two in the Dark Magic series, The Hunter's Curse was soooo good, and now we have to wait for the next book because of that ending. This book is full of action, twists and turns, and I loved every single minute of it. This is the perfect book for the spooky season that is approaching.
The Hunter's Curse is the second book in the Dark Magic Series by Jamie Lee Fry. This book continues right where we left off in the first book. We accompany Izzy and her coven on their quest to break the Hunter's Curse and save Izzy's boyfriend Riley from becoming a hunter.
I really liked reading the Hunter's Curse! I enjoyed getting to know the characters better, especially Callen. This book is as fast paced as the first one and I like that about the series, it keeps the story interesting. All in all I am really happy I continued the story and I can only recommend it to everyone who liked the first book!

Super fun and fast read that is absolutely perfect for the upcoming Fall/Halloween season. This is #2 in a series and you absolutely have to have read the first. In fact I only read the first about 4 months ago but even I was having a bit of trouble catching up in the beginning. It would have helped to have a tiny refresher tucked into the very beginning of this book. Might be best if you read these books immediately back to back.
I think I liked this second one even more then the first. It’s action packed and moves along fast, which I enjoyed. Excited to see what happens in the final installment!
The Hunter's Curse is the second book in the Dark Magic Series by Jamie Lee Fry and I have to say I loved it just as much as the first book The Bloodline Curse if not better. The Dark Magic Series gets better and better with each book. I can’t wait to dive into the third book The Coven’s Curse.
The Hunter's Curse picked up right where The Bloodline Curse left off with everyone trying to break the Hunter’s curse. Izzy’s childhood friend and boyfriend is a witch hunter or will be if they can’t break the curse before his next birthday.
The Hunter's Curse surprised me yet again with all of its twists and turns. The Hunter's Curse holds just as many secrets if not more than The Bloodline Curse does.
I love the twists that The Hunter’s Curse threw on the families living in East Gate. It was amazing. The world-building has gone up on many levels. The descriptions are very well done making it really easy to picture it all in my head as each scene played out.
Will Izzy and her friends be able to break the hunter’s curse before more hunters are turned? Can they save Izzy as well as all of the other witches?
I fell in love with this series when I read the first book The Bloodline Curse and after reading The Hunter’s Curse my heart has fallen even deeper in love. I love the magic and all of the characters.
I love this series so much that I highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading about witches. Grab a copy of The Hunter’s Curse today!
The much anticipated sequel to The Bloodline Curse, The Hunter's Curse absolutely does not disappoint. It starts off mere minutes from when the first book ended. Izzy is still reeling from the events that transpired and all the questions that are now buzzing around her. But she does not have time to deal with it all. There is a curse running through her boyfriend Riley, a curse that if left to run its course will turn him into her deadliest enemy.
The Hunter's Curse takes everything that was good about The Bloodline Curse and makes it great. We are treated to more magic, more intrigue, more secrets....more of everything! The characters continue to grow and develop, as does the relationship between Izzy and Riley. But he's not the only potential man vying for Izzy's affection. This book starts off with action and never lets up. This book is like reliving your teenage years....your emotions are about to be uncontrollable and all over the place. I can't wait for book 3 to continue the series!
Thank you to BookSirens and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily and all views expressed are my own.
Many thanks for letting me read and review this book! I got this copy from BookSirens! I finished the first one and just had to continue the story. I really liked how this book immediately starts and takes place after the events of the first book. Sometimes books leave it a year in between and it really messes with the timeline or what happened previously but I liked how we were still right in the thick of it all.
We learned more about East Gate in this book as well as the history of the coven. A few surprises along the way which I won’t spoil for everybody! But I really liked how the whole town was looked into. Callen seems to be my favourite so far out of all the characters, I have a perchance for overly confident men haha, and his character is a bit more fleshed out here and a potential romance option for Izzy! The gang is still strong, but for how long? I’m excited to hear that book three is coming out early next year, but I’m not sure if I can wait for that long with the ending!!
This is officially my favorite series. You jump right back into where the first book left off. Though it was a while since I read The Bloodline Curse, I was afraid I'd forget everything but I didn't. Little bits and pieces throughout the story helped me remember what happened in the first book. I loved how you immediately got a history lesson of witches and hunters and how they came to be especially where the characters live. When I read about how Izzy's mother could've been saved, I was hooked. I knew it was only going to get better. It was like a roller coaster. The intensity of the book never stopped and I was along for the ride. The Good: everything. Every character was essential, the places, the cliff hangers, the twists and turns. The Bad: that it's over! This book was also perfection just like the first one.
I’m not happy. This was such a good book and it was getting so good, and I was really into when The End. What? No! And I have to wait months for the next book. Yeah, not happy.
This is book 2 in the series. Izzy has moved to Connecticut with her father and discovered a family history of witches. The town was settled by several families of witches and hunters, mortal enemies. Along the way, Izzy’s father is seriously ill and only Izzy and her coven mates can save him.
There are a lot of characters in this book and we don’t get to know them all well but if we did, the book would be too long. The characters we do get to know well I mostly like. A couple I’m not so crazy about but that’s okay cause it keeps the story interesting.

WOW!!! What a second book in this amazing series! I will advise you to read the last two chapters of book one again if you aren’t reading these in a row!! I truly can’t explain my thoughts on how much I am loving this trilogy! We learn so much more about witches and hunters in this second book AND I find myself falling in love with Jamie’s characters even more in this book! I can’t express how I felt about the ending because I NEED MORE!!! Izzy, Callen, and Riley better not disappoint me in the final book!! I love supporting Indie Authors but Jamie truly doesn’t feel like one to me anymore. She writes amazing stories with fantastic characters that I truly hope you all will check out! Can’t wait to praise the final book in the series and I’m annoyed I have to wait to read it 😂
I absolutely loved the magical sequel to The Bloodline Curse! Full of magic and mystery, The Hunters Curse picks up right where it left off in book 1. (I went back and reread the last few chapters in book 1 for a refresher). You really get a deeper dive into getting to know each character and also get introduced into new characters, which I loved! I don’t want to give away too much, but this book kept me guessing and was unpredictable (which is exactly what we want in a good mystery). If you like supernatural/fantasy books that take you on an enchanting magical and mysterious journey, this is definitely the book/series for you. My only complaint is that I have to wait for more…. Book 3, hurry up and work your magic so I can read more!!!
The Hunter's Curse is the second in this series. There is no recapping, so please, to get full enjoyment of the story, you must read book #1, The Bloodline Curse or you will be lost. This was a fabulous second with an ending leading into the third. Once you start the tale you will be surprised when you turn the page only to find that you are done. What?? Lord that went fast, I was so engrossed in the book I did not notice the passage of pages. The third is going to be a doozy. Can't wait to delve into that one. And again sooo much action and so many twists and turns. Tim needs to go and while I feel bad for Riley I think he needs to move away until he can find control. I prefer Callen he has proven to be trustworthy and loving. Jessa is about as spoiled and bratty as they come she really needs to grow up. Poor Margo so much pain for such a young girl. I really hope Thalia becomes a witch it would break her heart and her family and the coven. Izzy is having to grow up way too fast but she has shown great strength of character I hope she finds love steadfast and true in the next book. The dark mother needs to be sent on to her just rewards. Love this world and the characters. ARC copy with voluntary review

This is the second book in the Dark Magic Series and picks up where the Bloodline Curse ends.
Riley realises she's a witch. And her new boyfriend, the boy she's always loved is a Hunter. And now that the bloodline curse has been broken, it's time to break the hunter's curse. How else will she and Riley live happily ever after?
Everything you loved about the first book, you get here. Magic. Witchcraft. And a possible love triangle. Woohoo!

This book is packed with action and surprising plot twists, leaving me breathless after finishing it🔥I love this series, and after devouring the first book, I eagerly picked up the sequel, "The Hunter's Curse."
🧙The story continues from where the author left us in the second book, introducing new characters—Barette and Bree—a seemingly unlikely couple who turn out to be the parents of Callen and Tahlia. The group of witch friends is determined to rid Riley and Tahlia of the hunter's curse. However, their plans take an unexpected turn with the revelation of Anna's return from the brink of death, putting Izzy's father in a perilous situation. More witch characters come into play, and instead of eliminating the hunter's curse, the East Gate witch coven ends up losing their magic 💔
In this part of the story, the author explores the characters more deeply compared to the first book, "The Bloodline Curse." Callen becomes a central figure, bringing positivity, much like Margo. He takes on the role of Izzy's guardian. I really like the characters of Barret and Bree here beacuse they really giving hope about the future of witches and hunters 🧙
The many unexpected turns in the plot keep readers hooked, showcasing the author's skillful writing✨️
I was considering a 4.5-star rating due to a bit of a letdown at the end and a desire for more Riley and Izzy pagetime. But, setting my personal preferences aside, my excitement for the third book bumped it up to a solid 5 stars🌟
This book started right where the first one ended, so you will definitely have to have read the first book before this one. The book is full of twists and turns and keeps you on yout toes. I enjoyed reading this book more than the first one as I felt it got more into the actual story itself not just learning about the characters, and can't wait to read the next installment. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Hunter's Curse, the second book in Jamie Lee Fry's Dark Magic Series, is every bit as captivating as its predecessor, The Bloodline Curse, if not more so. I enjoyed reconnecting with the characters and getting to know them all over again. They bring so much life and purpose to the story. Each installment of the series just keeps getting better, and I’m eagerly anticipating diving into the third book, The Coven’s Curse.
I feel like the first book was more getting to know the characters and setting the story up.
This book really gets into the story and develops the characters more. I have really enjoyed both of the stories and would like to read more by this author.
I did received an ARC of this book but I am reviewing the book voluntarily.
I love the concept of The Hunter's Curse Dark Magic Series: Book 2 by Jamie Lee Fry. It was very well written and thought out. I love how in this book it picks up right where books one left off. Izzy has just discovered that she was a bloodline witch and with the help of her friends Margo, Callen, and Tahlia they saved Jessa and in the process they also broke the bloodline curse. Now that the bloodline curse is broken everyone from the original four bloodlines are free to love who they want so Izzy is now free to be with Riley. But Riley only has five days left until his tattoo is complete and he joins his father and becomes a hunter. That means Izzy and her coven has five days to break a three century curse on their family yet again. Can they do it? Well everything is going as planned until Izzy grandma Anna comes back from the dead. Will Anna present help or hinder the East Gate Coven, also will they be able to break the Hunter Curse in time to save Riley, or will they fail and lose everything in the process? I guess that you will have to read The Hunter's Curse to find out. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I knew I would enjoy part 2 because I loved part 1. Again the character development was great and the amount of witchy magic feels I get from the book is phenomenal
Hunter’s curse picks up right where Bloodline curse left off. The girls go through more unexpected twists and turns trying to figure out how to break the hunters curse. Lots of teenage drama. A love triangle forms. New nemesis appear. And another cliffhanger to lead into the next installment. Very enjoyable read.
This book had more depth than the previous one where it sort of just served as a starter into the series. My interest grew as the mysteries were starting to unfold. Mischief and magic and mayhem ensue as the secrets come out and it makes for an interesting and a more fast paced plot. Too bad this ended in another cliffy but I'm hoping we get the closure we need in book 3!
I loved Book 1 of this series and this one is even better! Brilliantly written, a few laughs, some immature teenagers and some witchy spells. Fans of YA will love this. Highly recommended.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It begins right after book 1. I like we see more of the girls relationsship and the triangle between Callen, Izzy and Riley. How Riley is fighting being a hunter.
It doesn't feel like they are taking the Anna situation seriously and the villians at the end comes a some of a surprise. This does feels like a filler and could have been incorporated into the first or maybe half into the third book. It feels like the author has spread her story over to many plot points and we don't go into deepth with them.
I liked the book I just thought it could have been deeper.
Ugh. I have to wait until the end of April to find out what happens next. Major book hangover. Cliffhanger. Unsolved mysteries. Not only has this series sucked me in, held me hostage, but it has also left me craving more. I can see myself reading the Dark Magic series more than once.
So, the second book in the series picks up right where book 1 left off. This one is just as good if not better. There are several unexpected twists. While some questions were answered in this book, more mysteries are discovered and questions are not yet answered. What a tangled web.
If you're looking for your next amazing read, dive into this series. The world around you will disappear, being replaced by East Gate, Connecticut and Izzy's world.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
