Sarah is starting to plan for her wedding and think about the special quilt she will make as a gift for Liam when she receives startling news: The Spotted Dog has been broken into! Liam's computer and some cash were stolen, and the store has been trashed....With the wedding coming soon, will she be able to get to the bottom of the break-in, so she can focus on what really matters. (from back of book)
Sarah is planning her wedding and the special quilt she will make as a gift for her husband, when she finds out Liam’s store has been broken into and almost destroyed. The police think it is someone with a grudge against Liam.Sarah sets out to find out who did it and help repair the store, then Liam’s daughter pregnant is put on bed rest and comes to stay with her father. While Sarah is happy to spend time with her she is busy with everything else and wonders when she will be able to get back to planning her wedding.
It's August and Sarah is making plans for her marriage to Liam in September, including sewing a quilt as a gift to him. Meanwhile, Liam's daughter Caitlin comes home for her father to take care of her because she is pregnant and is put on extreme bed rest because she has high blood pressure. This is supposedly because her father has a more flexible work schedule than her husband does, although this doesn't turn out to be true. Sarah helps Caitlin make a baby quilt.
Liam's cafe is vandalized. In spite of the fact that the cafe is located in such a cozy community, Sarah discovers that there are plenty of suspects. Wayne has opened a competing coffee shop across the street. Derek owns a shop next door where he and his son sell and repair bicycles, and he would like to expand into Liam's space. Sam, the gamer kitchen help, has access to the spare key and could have allowed the vandal to borrow or steal it. Kristin, the rejected chef and B.J. her boyfriend could have been out for revenge. Sarah even entertains the possibility of a conspiracy but it's pretty obvious very early in the book who the best suspect is.
Nit picking: Covers that don't match the text. The Spotted Dog cafe in the book is named after the proprietor's dog, Murphy, who is a Corgi. The dog on the cover of the book appears to be some generic dog or, at best, a dalmatian-type dog. Dalmatian miniature brick-a-brack dogs are mentioned being in the gift section of the cafe on page 227, in a strained attempt to bring them into the book. The cover also shows a sidewalk cafe table that has not been mentioned in any of the books. On page 207 for no reason except throwing some adjectives into the sentence, the doctor and the technician are both wearing long white lab coats. The tradition or rules may be different in other countries but, in most U.S. hospitals, only the doctor would be wearing a long white coat in the public area of the hospital. The technician might be wearing a white coat but it would be a short one.
I was so thrilled to find out there are 2 more left in the series! But, of course, I am so bummed to know that there are *only 2 more* left in the series....
