Annie Pederson’s happily ever after is finally within sight . . . if she can stay alive long enough to grasp it. Return to the beloved town of Rock Harbor in the final installment of the Annie Pederson trilogy by bestselling suspense author Colleen Coble.
In spite of their very rocky start, Annie is working to repair her relationship with her long-lost sister, Sarah. But when the man who abducted Sarah is spirited out of the hospital and out of law enforcement custody, Annie knows they are both in terrible danger. Recent events have catalyzed one thought in Jon’s mind: he’s wasted too much time already and he wants to marry Annie as quickly as possible. In spite of the chaos around them, he’s working on a custom engagement ring and planning for a proposal.
But when Annie gets too close to the truth behind the recent mysterious disappearance of hikers in the area there’s suddenly a target on her back. When she is abducted and hunted in the woods, it will take all her survival skills to outwit those who would prefer to see her dead.
In this third and final novel of bestselling author Colleen Coble’s latest romantic-suspense series, hope is a powerful motivator as Annie fights to redeem the sister she once lost, to build the family she dreams of, and to keep all those she loves safe.
Third installment in the Annie Pederson series: Book One: Edge of Dusk
Book Two: Dark of Night
Book Three: Break of Day
Includes cameo appearances from beloved characters in Colleen’s Rock Harbor series Also by Colleen Coble: A Stranger’s Game, One Little Lie, Without a Trace
USAToday bestselling author Colleen Coble lives with her husband, Dave, in Arizona. She is the author of dozens of novels including the Rock Harbor Series, the Aloha Reef Series, the Mercy Falls Series, the Hope Beach Series, the Lonestar Series and two Women of Faith fiction selections, Alaska Twilight and Midnight Sea. She has more than 6 million books in print.
Excitement, evil antagonists, action, and romance are a few of the items that stand out in Break of Day by Colleen Coble. This is the third and final book in the Annie Pederson romantic suspense series with a Christian fiction tone set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in and around the village of Rock Harbor.
Annie is a law enforcement officer with the park service who works closely with the local sheriff’s office. Her relationship is going well with Jon Dunston, the love of her life and the biological father of her daughter, Kylie. Her relationship with her sister Sarah is still shaky. However, when a man escapes custody and Sarah’s safety is up in the air, Annie’s professional and personal lives collide. This happens while her investigation into missing hikers is not going well.
The author does a great job of characterization. Annie is likeable with grit, persistence, compassion, and determination. However, she hates to ask for help from others. Jon is an orthopedic surgeon who is strong and kind. However, he deeply hurt Annie when they were younger. Kylie played a much smaller role in this novel. Many of the other characters have depth and either put readers on guard or drew them deeper into their lives. The characters feel authentic and have believable relationships despite some of them being quite disturbing. There are a lot of characters in the story, so it helps to have read the previous books. That way, the number of new characters is significantly less.
As usual there are multiple professional and personal threads woven seamlessly throughout the story. This gritty and intriguing story is filled with action, suspense, and violence as well as some sweet romantic moments. It has several layers, and is dark at times. It’s is a terrific ending to the trilogy. The world-building is excellent. From the woods to the small town to Lake Superior, readers are enveloped in the atmosphere of the Upper Peninsula. The pacing is fast throughout the book and the plot is twisty. Themes include romance, murder, fear, faith, disappearances, actions having consequences, forgiveness, family drama, trust, and much more.
Overall, I loved the tension and the intensity of the story. It was engaging, atmospheric, and suspenseful with some chilling scenes. It did a great job of keeping me hooked and having compassion for the characters through their struggles. Those who enjoy gritty romantic suspense novels will likely enjoy this trilogy. I recommend reading them in order. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
Thomas Nelson—FICTION and Colleen Coble provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for July 04, 2023. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine. --------------------------------------- My 4.45 rounded to 4 stars review is coming soon.
Talk about ending with a bang. Colleen Coble really did a great job in winding up this trilogy. There were so many loose ends and almost all of them are tied up quite neatly When the story is concluded. The biggest issues have to with Jon & Annie, Annie & Sara, and Jon's connection to Kylie, Annie's daughter. Readers will be happy with the endings of their stories. One weird thing I just can't wrap my head around is the informal way in which Jon, a medical doctor, just tags along with Annie when she is working. Just seems so informal and unprofessional. One star deduction.
Why is it that when we finally think we have ‘it’ all together, life throws us a curveball?!
Same for Annie - just when her life is getting back on track, she needs to ‘rescue’ her sister again. I loved the tension of the hunter becoming the hunted. Edge of my seat tension.
I was glad to get back to Rock Harbor and get closure, but was sad to have read the final installment in the Annie Pederson trilogy.
I could have done with a recap of book two because I was struggling to remember what happened and this definitely jumps in where book two left off. Regardless, I soon caught up and raced through the remainder of the book. I loved Coble’s unpredictable twists, her faith message and her reminder about trust and forgiveness.
I can’t wait to see what Coble has lined up for her next book!
I was gifted this copy by Thomas Nelson and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
This one gets darker as the mystery of missing female hikers unfolds.
This is a great trilogy. Annie goes through more than just crime investigations in these books. There are deep family hurts and trauma that she deals with. It was the most entertaining watching her life drama play out. You want drama? Read this trilogy lol.
Abduction is a huge plot point in these books and especially in this one. If men having disturbing thoughts and actions towards women triggers you, don’t read this one.
Faith content is light in these books but there enough that it feels like Christian fiction to me.
Not a 5 star trilogy for me, but one of the better Christian suspense series I’ve read in a while.
I really did enjoy this book and I need to applaud Colleen Coble by showing that an author can write a fantastic book without sex scenes and swearing!!! 👏👏👏👏It was refreshing to not have to wonder if any of these things would appear to ruin the reading experience!! She is one of the few authors who can do this... let's hope that others can do the same!!
I really was so excited to hear that she wrote another book because I read Freedom's Light by her and really loved it, that I didn't know that it was the last book in the trilogy. Oops! It turned out great because I read the synopsis of the other two books, so I knew what was going on.
This won't be a long review because many of you have read the first two books and I won't spoil anything for you or for those who want to read the trilogy. I felt that it was slow in the beginning, but it really picked up half way through. Sarah's story is really what kept me reading because it was extremely exciting and I needed to know how it ended 🤫. This story is full of scripture, compassion, love, family and friends and the bonds between them. This is a wonderful story of survival! It will keep you interested and wanting you to keep turning the pages to get quickly to the exciting end! You won't be disappointed!
Only two things bothered me. Jon is Annie's boyfriend and a doctor. How he kept showing up in the investigations was beyond me. I kept thinking how was he talking care of his patients? The other thing is that there's a dog named Scout, only everyone called him" the dog." I found myself keep saying" he has a name!" 🐕😁
Otherwise, it was a truly enjoyable and faith filled story! I very highly recommend this wonderful book and look forward to reading more by Colleen Coble! Well written and well done!! 4.75 Stars from me. Enjoy and Happy Reading 💫✨
What a solid ending for our characters in this trilogy! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Annie, Jon, Kylie and the others. Kylie played a smaller role in this one, but I was completely invested in the storyline here - it made sense. In this one, we see more of the continuation from the event at the end of book 2, (can't say because it would be a spoiler), but, our characters are trying to still digest everything learned at the end of book 2 here. Annie and Jon find themselves in a very tough situation here and we see the family dynamic play out in full throughout the story.
This one was very fast paced, which I love. Such non-stop action that will take you on quite the journey ya'll! I loved seeing the resolution to the mystery surrounding the missing hikers and the leader...whaaaaat! Surprised to say the least. I was on the edge of my seat as we have a bit of cat and mouse going on here where some characters are hiding from the bad guys in the woods but that's the whole part of their game - let people go so they can chase them.
I love how real the characters felt, the family drama going on added to the story in a good way and you really feel connected to them! Such depth to them. Highly recommend this awesome romantic suspense trilogy! (Look at me, finishing a trilogy, what!) :)
I loved the third installment in the Annie Pederson trilogy. Coble pulled many different storylines together by the end. I was totally stunned at the antagonist in the hunting storyline. WOW...it was a total surprise. 5/5 stars!
Break of Day is the final book in the Annie Pederson series and boy did the author end it with a bang! I enjoyed this series very much and I loved how it all came together in the end. I had no idea who the bad guy was and I was totally surprised. I was hanging on the edge of my seat throughout the novel and I stayed up late to finish it. I truly recommend it to all romantic suspense lovers who love happily ever afters and a message of hope. *I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson and this is my honest opinion.
Wow! Get ready for a non-stop, action-filled, romantic suspense ride! Enjoyed this thrilling conclusion to the Annie Pederson series. Break of Day starts right off where Dark of Night left off. Annie and Jon are finally headed to their happily ever after with an engagement in sight and what looks like a possible reconciliation with her long lost sister Sarah.
But the road to happiness is never smooth as Annie’s discovery of Jon being her child’s biological father continues to upend her and her daughter’s world. There’s also a group of hunters on the loose whose quarry aren’t animals. As other hikers disappear, and Sarah’s life is put in danger by the escape of the man she can testify against, Annie must use all her wits and dogged persistence to protect her sister and find the killers.
There’s never a dull moment in this book. I’ve really enjoyed Annie as the main character of this series. She’s smart, strong, and a force to be reckoned with. She and Jon are a wonderful match and it’s touch and go as to whether an engagement and wedding will actually happen for them. Kylie is still antagonistic towards Jon, but she’s getting better. For most of this book, she stays with Bree and we get to see more of the romance between Jon and Annie.
The mystery of the missing hikers is finally solved. The head of the group of hunters was a bit of a surprise. Without giving too much away, the plot reminded me of an old story called The Most Dangerous Game. It’s a nail-biter as Annie turns the tables on the hunters and goes from being their prey to being the hunter. The non-stop action really kept me on the edge of my seat.
I loved the way things were resolved and how faith was subtly woven throughout. The author definitely wrapped up the series with a great big bow on top, and I was sad to see it end. I’m hoping we might get glimpses of Annie in future books. I recommend reading the previous books in the series before reading this one or you’ll be completely lost. Highly recommend this series to inspirational romantic suspense fans. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given. 4 to 4 1/2 stars
This book was the perfect ending to a great series!! I was hooked from the start! Colleen Coble did a great job of tying up all the loose ends from the previous two books. This entire series had the amount of suspense, romance, and action. I loved the dynamic characters. The ending was definitely not something I saw coming from the previous 2 books.
This series was my first encounter with Colleen Coble. I will definitely be reading more!
The Annie Pederson series is the first experience I had with Colleen Coble and I thoroughly enjoyed my time, with this last book in the trilogy no exception. Coble wraps things up very nicely with almost everything answered that you were wondering about throughout the series. You see wonderful family dynamics, romance, and growth in one character in particular that was reassuring and heartwarming to see. One of my favorite new characters in this book is a golden retriever named Scout--he definitely had a role to play and he was absolutely precious. There is also a significant plot twist that you would not have seen coming from the previous two books. This series is such a good time-- I highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this new series by Colleen. She brought the right amount of intrigue and romance throughout the series. I did guess who was involved, but it was still a fun ride to see if I was right.
What a great conclusion to this exciting series! I really love that this is a second chance, reunion romance series for Jon and Annie. The angst between them takes place in book one and their relationship grows closer in the second and third novels.
This story was packed with some edge of your seat suspense, as the good guys had to outwit and outmaneuver the bad guys. The overall question of who was behind all of the missing and dead women that had been hinted at throughout the series was finally answered.
I liked the way the author wrapped things up and really enjoyed this entire series. I ended up listening to the audio version of Break of Day and thought the narration was nicely done.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Break of Day is the third and final book in the Annie Pederson series and a fantastic read. I've loved this series and found all the books fast, easy reads. I highly recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.
I liked the suspense in this one. We finally got answers to some questions about what was really going on. The last portion of the book was pretty difficult to put down...SO intense. I wasn't surprised by who the bad guy was, but I only had a slight suspicion it could be this person.
All in all, Break of Day was worth the read and I really enjoyed it. I recommend you read this series in order.

This book is the last book in the Annie Pederson trilogy. I have to admit, I didn’t realize this when I began this book, so it took me a minute to feel “caught up” with the characters. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book very much and found the story really drew me in. The characters were interesting and the plot had enough suspense and mystery to keep me invested throughout. I think I may need to read the two earlier books in the series now to make it complete! I liked the Annie Pederson character, she is a law enforcement ranger in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She is a strong character- a good investigator, a mother, who fights for her family and her friends. I give this book 4 stars out of 5.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
First and foremost, my thanks to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson Publishing, and the author for an advanced copy of Break of Day.
This is fast reading novel for fans of mysteries. The protagonists Annie and Jon are very engaging. The other cast of characters are too numerous and keeping all of them straight is confusing. A cast of characters page would be beneficial to readers in navigating through so very many people and how they are related to one another.
I attempted to read this installment but quickly realized it is absolutely necessary to read this series sequentially. There is a lot of background and events that the reader needs to be privy to in order to try to follow the storyline. It becomes convoluted and confusing as former events and characters in book one and two are referenced. Therefore, highly recommended to start with the first book in the series!
This gripping series came to a hunting conclusion when good and evil meet in the woods.
I was a bit sorry that I was correct in who I suspected was involved, because of the effect it had on the people around the person.
Jon and Annie also reconciled in the challenges their relationship was facing. Annie had to work through forgiveness and acceptance as well personally to be able to move on.
I enjoyed the brief visit we had to Rock Harbor. Those who did not read that series won’t miss out, since Bree and Samson make very brief appearances. The focus is on Annie, but readers who have read and loved Rock Harbor will enjoy seeing their favourite characters doing well.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
Wow! What a fantastic conclusion to the Annie Pederson trilogy! Break of Day ties up all the loose ends from the previous two books. I will say it again, these books should be read in order.
Break of Day was even more gripping than the first two books. I literally read it in a day. I couldn't put it down. Many things were going on in this book, and Colleen Coble wove it all together seamlessly. I had a very brief thought in book two about who the mastermind could be but immediately dismissed it because it seemed too outrageous. I was a bit shocked to learn he was in on it.
I highly recommend reading the whole series. I know my details are brief, but I really don't want to even hint at spoilers.
Break of Day is the third and final book in the Annie Pederson series. This is one that I would definitely not recommend reading as a standalone, as I don't feel like you'd be able to get the full enjoyment without reading in order. There is a lot of backstories that I think it crucial to events and relationships in this one. Even having read the previous books, it took me a little bit to remind myself who was who and reacquaint myself with what had happened already. (It has been a bit since the previous books, and I have memory issues.)
Colleen Coble is one of my absolute favorites, and more often than not when I sit down with one of her books, I can pretty much kiss productivity goodbye because I'm not able to put it down... but I have to admit I struggled with this one a little bit. There were a few reasons for this, and for the most part it had nothing to do with the story itself. In fact, it was a really great story and just as well-written as anything else I've read from Coble in the past. That said, it did seem like the premise behind the story feels a bit darker than I'm used to from her. Combine this with having just come from reading much more lighthearted reads and my mental state not being in the greatest place when I started reading... it was a lot. I actually had to step away for a bit and read something lighter before coming back to finish. Again, this is definitely more me than the book.
Despite all that, I did really enjoy the book. It was nonstop action and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat, and of course the bits of romance mixed in too. More than anything, I really enjoyed the message of faith and forgiveness, and watching how Sarah and Annie's relationship plays out in the end.
If you enjoy Christian suspense, this series is definitely one worth checking out.
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
Break of Day by Colleen Coble is the third book in the Annie Pederson trilogy. What a wild ride with an epic conclusion that took me until halfway through this book to finally start unraveling the ongoing mystery.
The beginning of this particular book started a little slow, but once the clues were falling into place the story ramped up and ended with a thrilling finale. Definitely my favorite book of the trilogy.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for an advanced e copy to honestly read and review. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Publication date was June 4, 2023.
3.5 ⭐️This was the best book in this series. There was a plot point that was teased but didn’t have a resolution. I was a bit disappointed by this. Other than that I had a fun time. This was the most exciting and suspenseful of the series. The faith was incorporated more throughly in the story was well. Overall this was a good time.
Listened to the audio book version. Another great story and hope it’s not the last one in the series. My friend drew stone would be elated after reading this book! He reminds me of the kidnapper.
This was my 4th Colleen Coble book and every single one of them have been 3 or 3.5 stars. Her writing style just isn't for me I've decided. I love books that are written in a way that makes you FEEL the story as if you're there IN IT with the characters. I want cliff hanging chapters. I want to feel my heart beating out of my chest, dying to know what's going to happen. And with Coble that just never happens.
While I truly enjoyed the plot of this book (though I 100% guessed the main villain from the first couple of chapters..), I just still can't get over how she writes VERY intense dark thrilling scenes as if it's a news article or brief describing the event to the masses after the fact.
****Minor spoiler kinda below....******
Like.... girls are being straight up hunted in the woods by male hunters in this book and it just reads like a Sunday afternoon paper. I just.... 🤣🙈😅 I don't think I can handle how water downed her writing is.
That said, if you don't handle dark themes very well, but still enjoy reading light thrillers or mysteries, Colleen Coble is perfect for you!
The Upper Peninsula region of Michigan on Lake Superior is an area I know nothing at all about and the region figures prominently in this series. That is one of the best features of these books. The area comes alive with all its' beauty and danger. Annie is on the brink of having it all: adorable if prickly child, hot guy and the return of her sister who was kidnapped years ago. As a park ranger and owner of a campground and marina, in high season (July) Annie is crazy busy with missing campers, break-ins and murder.
In trying to come to terms with her estranged sister, Sarah, Annie may have unwitting sent her into danger when she turns up missing. With a rash of missing campers, Annie has long suspected that there is something more than just lost hikers who have disappeared. Now Sarah is missing too and her investigation has placed Annie in danger.
First off, you must read the other books in this series in order to understand what is happening in this book. This is a story arc that spans the trilogy and jumping in on this book is not advised. With the history you have a chance of understanding what is taking place and the characters involved. The depiction of strong, Christian characters is a bonus to this book. It shows that everyone has family problems and we all just work it out with God's help. The mystery was vague and reason for the threat to Annie and her family was unclear. But the last 20% of the book is some of the best action-suspense I've ever read. 3 1/2-Stars
My thanks to the Publisher and Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.
If you're looking for a book that will make your heart race and your mind rush to find the answers to the mystery, this final book in the Annie Pedersen trilogy is just what you're looking for!
Annie's life has been a daily struggle since the sudden deaths of her husband and her parents in a boating accident. She's been struggling to stay afloat as a law enforcement officer and raise her young daughter without a father, but now that her daughter's biological father is back in Annie's (and Kylie's) life, things are looking up. She's finally feeling like happiness might be in her grasp and she might just get a second chance at love. Until she becomes the hunted. Someone wants her dead, and Annie is about to become the hunted instead of the hunter.
I think this was my favourite of the series. Each page was jam-packed with excitement and the plot wasn't something I've seen in a novel before. I still love Jon's character and his unrelenting love for Annie and their daughter, and he just keeps getting better as a hero. Annie's commitment to making the world a better place for her family while still taking time to enjoy her life is good to see. The side characters are also fantastic, and I finally even started to like Annie's sister by the end of the story.
If you enjoy fast-paced romantic suspense, you won't want to miss this series.
*I received a complimentary copy of Break of Day through the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My positive review is not required.
Break of Day is the third book in the Annie Pederson series. I have been lucky enough to have been able to read all three of these as ARC's. This can be a stand-alone read, but I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I had only read the last one. It wraps up all the previous threads that were hanging even if you didn't realize that they were hanging. Books two and three pick up shortly after where the previous one leaves off. None of them are cliff hangers (which I can't stand) but the story just doesn't end because there is more story to tell with each book. It is an exciting and intense action-packed drama that keeps building until the very end.
Annie is a law enforcement officer with the park service. She has a good working relationship with the sheriff's office. Her relationship with Jon Dunston is going well. Kylie is working on accepting Jon as her biological father and Annie's sister Sarah is still shaky as they try to move on from the past. However, when a man escapes custody and Sarah’s safety is in jeopardy, but she will not be the only one in danger as the story barrels to the conclusion.
I really liked this series as I got to know and enjoy Colleen Coble's writing style. I look forward to reading many more by this author.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars I absolutely loved this series. Such an unexpected surprise but genuinely loved this author and excited to continue reading from her. This book while still amazing I think was my least favourite in the series. It just took me a little longer to get through which was unusual. I can’t quite put my finger on it exactly but the plot of this one wasn’t quite at the same level as the other two.
In saying that though I still absolutely loved it. I’m so invested in these characters and I loved how the plot carried through all the books without becoming repetitive. Overall really really loved this series and can’t wait to read more from this author! Always good when u get a new one under your belt. 😁
