Inspiring stories of true heroes. The reader can’t help but admire the positive attitudes of individuals who have faced some of the worst challenges in life. The author adds clarification and anecdotal information between personal accounts by the ten heroes included. The writing style is easy to read and down to earth. Highly recommend.

Excellent stories from true American Heroes and the bonds that hold them together through shared experiences. Thankful for all of them and the freedoms that they fought and sacrificed for the rest of us.

Unbroken Bonds of Battle

Prolific, heartfelt and inspiring. The author takes the reader on a post 9/11 journey into ten special lives called to a duty above oneself to be part of a special brother/sisterhood that few Americans will ever know! The personal, physical and emotional journey of these blessed souls and their families can never be repaid or forgotten. As a vet, it does the heart good to know that there still are those from various walks of life that believe our country is still worth fighting for. For the 60% of those out there who take their freedom for granted, let someone else be on point while they sleep, think patriotism is dead and that America has seen its best days: Read This Book! Well done JJJ. Army Airborne All The Way!!!

Johnny Joey Jones has written an outstanding account of his military service in the Marine Corps, and his war experience as well.

The comradeship can only be experienced, in my view anyway, in the military. I served for seven years in the United States Navy; and I never regretted a day I served.

I dont think I could give a review of this book that would give it justice. I will just say that after reading this, it gives me a greater appreciation of our military and the sacrifice they make to keep our country safe and free. The stories in this book make me feel humbled and so grateful for all that I have. And finally, after reading this, it makes me want to be a better person - a person who will be of service to others.

"Unbroken Bonds of Battle: A Book of Heroism, Patriotism, and Friendship" by Johnny Joey Jones captures the unfiltered accounts of military veterans and their experiences on the front lines. The book delves into the stories of five individuals, including Wesley Hunt, Nate Boyer, Lacy Gunnoe, Jacob Schick, and Jones himself, shedding light on their motivations for military service and the profound life lessons they learned along the way. It also explores the challenges they faced when transitioning back into civilian life after injury or retirement.

The narratives within the book emphasize essential themes such as the sense of responsibility, the pursuit of dreams despite obstacles, the importance of a supportive community, and the healing power of sharing one's experiences. From Hunt's unwavering commitment to duty and service in both war and politics to Boyer's remarkable journey from a refugee camp volunteer to an NFL player, the book highlights the power of perseverance and resilience. Gunnoe's story underscores the significance of support and mentorship in achieving personal growth, while Schick's account emphasizes the importance of open communication and vulnerability in overcoming adversity. Jones's narrative illustrates the transformative impact of camaraderie and compassion in aiding veterans during their challenging transition to civilian life.

The author skillfully weaves together these diverse stories to deliver a powerful message about the shared experiences of life, loss, and the enduring bonds of friendship. By inviting readers to reflect on the sacrifices and triumphs of these military veterans, the book encourages a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by those who have served their country. Through their unique perspectives and personal anecdotes, the veterans' stories serve as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the lasting impact of bravery and camaraderie in times of adversity.

Military service is considered by many to be the ultimate sacrifice. While none of us would ever be looking for an excuse to go to war, countless men and women have committed themselves to the Army, Navy, and Air Force for generations. Most are fortunate enough to make it home. Others aren’t quite so lucky.

By and large, the stories of their victories and defeats go by unheard – with the exception of the odd Hollywood film. And even those have varying degrees of accuracy.

five of the 11 memoirs the author, Johnny Joey Jones, shares in his book: Wesley Hunt, Nate Boyer, Lacy Gunnoe, Jacob Schick, and Jones himself

Life, loss, bonds of friendship

While we mightn’t ever don the uniform or be deployed to a conflict zone, the tales of military veterans are worth receiving and hearing.

Not only can their stories prompt us to more deeply consider life, loss, and friendship, but the ability for them to openly share their triumphs and tragedies can go a long way to improving their well-being and lives in the tricky transitions back home.

I’m very, very hesitant to write a bad review about a book on the military. These men and women have made the ultimate choice and unfortunately the ultimate sacrifice for our country. However, this book just isn’t very good. The actual writing by John Joey Jones is very good but the writing by the soldiers is terrible. Why didn’t someone edit what they wrote?!?! Ugh. I’m not an English major/teacher but some of my high school students write better.
Ultimately, the book is motivating and at times will bring tears to our eyes and choke you up but I wish someone had edited some of the material.

This is not literature. This is not great writing. This is reality. It is sad. It is inspiring. Anyone reading this is likely to increase their contributions to Wounded Warriors or T2T. Anyone who reads this has got to be grateful to those that serve and angry that human nature makes their service necessary, as well as angry at the anti-military hateful attitudes engendered by the so-called academic leaders.
I also came away with a higher opinion of JJJ. He is making an important contribution to the country every day in his aid to fellow servicemembers.

Many of these books follow a common arc of a an elongated battle tale. Fortunately, Joey shifts that arc a bit and concentrated on a group of interlocking vignettes. Each are, to an extent, a shorter arc of growth, choices, events and in
most cases military service. All, of these vignettes are linked by friendship and common experience. Each vignette is illuminates different wisdom, perspective and outcome.

I shed multiple tears at multiple points in the book and for multiple reasons.

Excellent book. The brave men and women who fight for our freedom and fight in wars. Some sacrifice their lives and other come back injured. I was very refreshing how the author was able to deal with his life changing injuries ( brain damage and blindness) and turn it into a positive. So many commit suicide but he was able to recreate himself. I highly recommend this book.

Johnny joey jones is the epitome of a true Patriot …I love him and his positive attitude! His brothers in battle endure more than we will ever know and the bond never lessens. It’s sad that the 1% that protects the 99% are not taken care of better when they come home. These band of brothers are still working to be there for them. day after day.

If you need a jolt of heroism, patriotism and/or inspiration, this is a book for you to read. The testimonials of Jones' colleagues, friends and brothers in arms are awe inspiring to read. Jones' commentary throughout the book brings home the special bonds by those not only in the Marines but in all military.

If you don't already have an American flag posted at your home in some way, this book will urge you to fly a flag, large or small, in tribute for all of the men and women of all our military forces throughout the years. They have kept us safe, retained our freedoms and given us a life that is like none other in the world.

Thank you for your service doesn't seem to be enough but it is all that I have. God bless every soldier in every form of military for their acts of bravery and self sacrifice. This book, done in a casual form, really packs a wallop. To hear the stories of their injuries, how they succumbed to depression, PTSD and other ailments due to war, is heartbreaking yet uplifting at the same time.

Jones, a double amputee, has an attitude of faith and hope and it shows in his words. Telling the stories of ten brothers in arms, "brothers in blood" , gives a taste of the connections with the military, how they becomes family. Throughout the book Jones continually references to the family that is created when in the military and the bonds that hold them together in the worst of times. A really unforgettable read.

I became aware of Johnny Joey Jones and some of his backstory through his occasional appearances on television. Having heard a bit about his personal experience with the military and war, I was intrigued when I first learned he had put together this tale of Modern Warriors. It is important to note that much of what you will read has been written by nine warriors and one surviving spouse to tell their personal stories. Each of them definitely contributes to helping you understand where today's warriors come from and what led them to put themselves in harms way to help protect us all. Having said that, Joey weaves his own story through the fabric of their individual tales while providing meaningful insight into the realities of war and the impact it has on individuals, their immediate and extended families, and circle of friends. Joey has done a masterful job of bringing these stories together and providing context and understanding of why the title "Unbroken Bonds of Battle" accurately conveys what this book is all about. Since all of their experiences occurred several years after I completed my own Army service, I now have a better appreciation for what we put the members of our military through in the modern era and renewed faith in the potential for the youth of our Nation to protect us in the future.

11 memoirs.

My favorite was Lacy Gunner’s story.

One of Gunnoe’s most treasured memories from this time was a full-circle moment of sorts. A foreign student – let’s call him Diego – was enrolled in his class but wasn’t on track to pass. Not only was he failing at the technical aspects of training but he was older than his peers and English wasn’t his first language. In other words, the odds were against him.

Nonetheless, Gunnoe committed to building a rapport with Diego – something he lacked with the other instructors. At one of their informal meetings, Gunnoe showed Diego his failing grade sheet and, no doubt against all protocol, changed each of his scores to “Excellent.” The trainee pilot was confused but buoyed. Gunnoe then told him to go out and earn those grades.

Not only did Diego do just that, he’s still flying today. A few years after graduation, he even sent Gunnoe a photo of himself with the president of his country, flying their equivalent of Air Force One.

I wonder, what would happen if I awarded every student an A at the beginning of the semester of an online weight lifting class, then asked them to live up to that grade?

If you want to get deep and shed some tears, then this book is for you.

Reading each and every person's story was so gut-wrenching, but damn does it make you thankful for the men and women who serve our great country!

I personally know Greg Wrubluski, who is one of the Veteran's mentioned several times throughout this book. We go on vacation once a year with his family. He is an amazing guy and very humble. His wife, Sarah, is also really great and is actually a delivery nurse. As mentioned in the book, most of the guys don't talk about their time in the military and Greg is one of those guys. He prefers not to speak about it and we all respect that. Reading his chapter in the book, made me respect him more than I already did. I'm thankful to have been able to get a little deeper glimpse into his former life as well as all of the other service members.

This book was a great read and really makes you value life. God Bless America!

Unbroken Bonds of Battle

I loved the relationships forged through think & thin. I want to recommend your book to all my life long friends & family. The high rating is because I see our large families, grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins & childhood friends in most of this book. We are all very close, (150+) my mom is 93 yrs & in nursing home, just small town USA, & we hug, cry, laugh & eveN rant on occasion, but we know near or far we will always be there for each other. I'm the oldest of 5 & I swear I have seen alot. Good & back & wouldn't change any of it. Been married 53 1\2 yrs with two grown children, my son a fire fighter for 25 yrs, best family of brothers he could ever have, other child is daughter, very successful pharmaceutical sales, lives in Louisiana & we talk almost daily. Bonds means so much & should always be refreshed as you do with your friends. I am going to read this book again before passing it on to other family. Love you on FOX Joey.

As a Vietnam Veteran I thought I could handle this book with ease.
I have been following Mr Jones and thought I could handle the stories in the book. Wrong answer on my part. This is oneof the best books on this topic I have ever seen. For those of you who are veterans you will be amazed t thes Service members and what they have been thru. For all you NON Veterans, please read this book and give it a fair shot. While at times it is very tough to read, but give it a chance and please show some respect for these Service Members who gave their all, and in some cases kept going back to help others.
You (as I did) will have to put the book down and take a break for your sanity at times, but please read till the end. Stay safe everyone.
Please thank and honor and respect our veterans. they are doing what most of you will never experience, so give it you best shot and an honest review.

Stories like this show us the true battle vets have to face on and off the battlefield. Yet despite it not being easy they always look back on the choice to serve the USA as pride instead of regret. Even when losing parts of themselves figuratively and literally, they don't lose sight of their of love of America. Even though out of everyone they would be the most understandable to have resentment. Johnny Joey Jones does an amazing job of telling his story through the stories of others. The stories in this book can be hard to read but it teaches us that the most important thing in life is the bonds we form with each other. If we don't people to rely on, then life is not just hard but it's not worth living.

These Heroes Were Blessed With Uncommon Valor

Joey Jones writes like he talks on TV, straight from his heart with no mixing words. It's very evident that surrounds himself with friends that are loyal, loving, caring, inspiring and true patriots.

"Unbroken Bonds of Battle" is filled with the stories of many of those Jones knew that he lost because of war and many who like him came away with physical and/or emotional scars.

In a time when true unselfish heroes are very hard to find this book tells the story of just a few while we keep looking.
