College Girl

Rate this book
She's a student. He's the teacher. And their worlds are about to collide ...

In her second term of college Alex Reed has one thing on her mind: passing Calculus. So when her professor introduces Ryan Matthews, the new TA, she writes him off in a second. Tall, hotter than hell—clearly a major ego case. Whatever. Guys like him don’t notice girls like her. Besides, she’s never even kissed a guy, so her sex-crazed roommate can have Mr. Hot.

Ryan Bennett left the family business and his pill-popping ex-fiancée to do something for himself. Then, only months before finishing his doctorate under an assumed name, he walks into his advisor’s freshman Calculus class and sees her. Alex Reed. The last thing he needs. Young, inexperienced—and off limits. But when someone who shouldn't follows her across campus at night, he’s forced to do something about it.

What happens next will change their lives forever.

Reader discretion is advised. This book is NOT appropriate for readers under 18 or those who are easily offended. It contains numerous explicit sexual situations, strong profanity throughout, violence, underage drinking, and other themes not intended for sensitive readers.

Very "Twilight"-ish at times- the girl, Alex, getting into trouble at every step and Ryan saving her and falling in love with her- except for the steamy scenes and Ryan being a human. Then he does the "New Moon",i.e. leaving her supposedly for her own good and coming back eventually. But then Ryan leaves her again for the same vague reason and again comes back obviously. What is surprising is Alex's ability to forget his mistakes and forgive him multiple times without even putting up a fight. The ending is pretty obvious and not surprising. The plot is nothing too intense and unnecessarily stretched.I personally was expecting something better.

I started off likening College Girl and then I started pissing me off. The whole going back and forth and Ryan finding it so hard to tell this girl he loved her just got on my nerves. I so for Ryan but he was the one with more issues than Alex. I mean he left her after the hospital situation and then again after his dad but yeah he loved her…whatever. I hated how Alex just let her roommate away with the things that she did and never said a word. I have lived in the dorms and there would have been hell to pay if I had to go thru that type of madness!

Wasn't A fan of the ending we had to read over 30 chapters and are still left with questions: Who hit Alex with the car? Who was following her? Did Gretchen really just going away that easily towards the end? Why his is friend James the way he is? What did Alex and her dad talk about? Did they ever finish school? Did Ryan dad die fast or did it take him months?

Please do not get me wrong I didn't hate College Girl I really did like Alex but dang it the book had me so frustrated. At one point I really did want her to leave Ryan for good he couldn't just say I love you and when he did he would do something to mess it up. She never made him wrk for her love. He never really took her out like he should have. And he could say that he was worried what ppl would say because it he was then he would have never been walking her to and from her dorm room. I just wish for all of those chapters we would have gotten a better story. On this one we need another book too many questions in my eyes that need to be answered

I read this book around 2 weeks ago and I had written my thoughts but somehow I couldn't upload them. So here I am, trying to remember what the story was about and I just can't. The thing is, I don't want to go back and read it again because it was that bad- that for sure I remember.

Few images to summarize what I recall.

Meet Alex

Oh my God, she would cry about everything.

Brian or Ryan, ajem the TA kept leaving her then going back and she would just forgive him without hesitation.

I think this had potential but as I remember there wasn't that much of a plot. Very forgettable.

Characters:

Alex: She's 18. Her middle name is Jolene, though she hates it. She actually lives on campus and shares a room with Brit, her roommate, but she'd like to disappear her if she could, she's a bitch. Bringing men to their room and letting her out to sleep in the hall(I'd kill her too). It has been years since she saw her real father. Her only family consists in her mother, stepfather and little sister. Friends: Julie and Rachel. Warning: foul-mouthed girl and perverts/stalkers/pricks magnet. And yeah, she's a virgin.

Ryan: He's 28. His middle name is Thomas. Heir of Bennett Family Cellars, though he is known as Ryan Matthews. He's a TA for Alex's calculus class while he finishes his doctorate in math. Family: mother, father, an older sister (She's the only one with whom he gets along) and an older brother who is dead. Friends: If you could call him his friend it would be McDevitt but he's a real asshole with a capital A. He was engaged but it ended pretty bad, now he's single. He has a dog, Finn, a German Shepherd alas crotch sniffer. Warning: He's hot!

At first I was a little shocked about how many times a girl can say FUCK in a sentence, but throughout the book it decreases a little or you get used to it. I was going to quit because of this reason but I kept going and I don't regret it. The book is good and well written. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have had the will to finish it.

The thing I liked about Alex is that even being a virgin, she's not like so many times those kind of characters are portrayed. She could have been a virgin, but it doesn't mean she's stupid or a shy little thing that cries for everything. She doesn't try to fit just to be loved.

When she sees Ryan for the first time, she thinks he's the classical rich boy with the looks. But when he rescues her of a crazy stalker in the library, she starts to think he's more than that. It's in that situation that she has her first kiss...yeah, the one who stole it is Ryan, of course with the pretext of scare away the stalker.

He helps her to file a police report and takes her to her room, but her roommate happens to shut her out because she's going at it like a rabbit. With no other option she accepts when Ryan offers her his house (yeah I wouldn't have go with a stranger but in her case the other option was sleeping in the hall and maybe being harassed by the jocks of the second floor)

It's when she's at his house where everything begins. One of the things she discovers is his real name. The other thing is what is an orgasm. But no, she doesn't have sex in that occasion. It's a long way to go before we come to that. And it's worth it.

In Ryan's case, I think he's the one who struggled more in this relationship. He has an emotional involvement phobia. And it has something to do with his older brother (this was the part I couldn't totally understand really well. At least for me, it didn't make much sense but we're talking about men)And then,he has too his moments of guilt because of how young she is and on top a virgin.

“It’s wrong to want you the way I do,” he said softly.

Ryan's stages:
First of course, it's only attraction.
Then it becomes an obsession, he WANTS her badly , especially he wants to be her first.

My jaw clenched at the thought of someone else touching her—being her first. What the fuck? Where had this proprietary bullshit come from?

Third, he realizes he's afraid of losing her (he even says it - though it's more like he can't say I love you to her).

I love you.
Three words. But I couldn’t say them. Maybe I never would be able to.

And last, he realizes he loves her.

I liked too that there is a pinch of BDSM lol, nothing hard but it was interesting. Being her a virgin and with no experience and him the opposite and older.

At the end, both of them recognize they've been running away from each other so many times. But they also realize they love each other and that's the important thing. The future is something they can't predict but now they want to be together even if everything is against them.

“I don’t regret one second of being with you, but I wanted to give you time to grow and learn without me getting in the way—”
“You mean without you.”
“I thought I was doing the right thing by walking away from you. And maybe I was, and maybe I’m being selfish now, but I never want to lose you again.”

This book was like a game of ping pong, the characters couldn't be more confused about what they wanted & they kept going backwards and forwards with their relationship, Alex swore at every turn which I disliked at first since she suppose to be 18 a virgin & a good girl but then as you read on I noticed that all her swearing gave her character a twist. Overall & despite things written above I enjoyed reading it & seen Alex & Ryan relationship develop, it was a rollercoaster but they got there at the end. I really hope there is a sequel to this book ;)

This was an amazing read. I loved the book. I really enjoy student-teacher relationship books for some reason. This is one of those amazing ones. I really loved both characters. Although, I thought there were some scenes where I wanted to slap Ryan in the face. They had amazing chemistry. I am happy that they got their HEA. I can't wait to see what Sheila Grace writes next. Overall, an incredible read.

As you know I am a lover of student/teacher romance and I really enjoy this book by Sheila Grace. I actually was lucky enough to pick up this one for free. I've never read this author before and I wanted to give it a chance. This was sort of student/teacher. It was a college freshman and her calculus TA.

It was a a great read. I really enjoy the love story. You meet Alexis "Alex" and her TA Ryan. Ryan basically saves Alex from a run in with a creeper guy and that is when the connection starts. The point of view goes back and forth between Ryan and Alex through out the whole book. It was nice to see the guys point of view on many events that occurred.

There was a warning on the description of this book and it made me super excited. I love a good warning, that usually means that its going to be dirty! Well, it was a hot one but I really think the warning was unnecessary. I think this one would have been a 5 star read for me if the ending didn't seem so rushed.

If you are a lover of student/teacher novels you will enjoy this one. It didn't stand out too much but it was a good read. I actually think Sheila should continue with this story. I don't usually say that a lot as this is a stand a lone but I think she should write another book about Ryan and Alex. Let us know what they are up to no. 4 Hot TA stars.

Book Synopsis:
Alexis Reed, 18-year-old college freshman, is walking to the library one night after leaving her Calculus class when she's nearly attacked by some creep she recognizes from her Creative Writing class. Luckily, the Teacher's Assistant from Calculus, Ryan Matthews, had seen her being followed and steps in to intervene. This leads to a complicated love affair between young Alexis and the hot, older TA, whose name is actually Ryan Bennett, heir to the Bennett winery.

My Review
4 STARS

What worked:
I read this entire book in less than two days. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, needing to know what happened next. It was a lot like reading the 2nd book in the Twilight Series (New Moon)... you just KNOW it has to get better for this poor character at some point, and by golly, you just HAVE to keep reading until it does, or else you and her will be just miserable! Next thing you know, you've finished the whole giant thing in a matter of hours. This book evoked some pretty strong emotions from me (more about this later).

I really liked Ryan Bennett's character. His character was pretty consistent throughout the book, as far as his personality. He was kind of amazing, actually, and might just be one of my new favorite male heart-throb characters of all time. I loved the way he was so protective of Alex and kicked ass for her on more than one occasion! (A few times, actually!) He was realistic, most of the time. In fact, both of the characters were pretty realistic. There were several times in the book when asking myself why Alex was acting so immaturely and naive, and then I was like, well... she is only 18. It makes sense. It also makes sense why she pushes people away, when we find out more about her background and history.

Then there was the slow build-up of the physical relationship between Alex and Ryan. The first night they meet, and we know she's still a virgin at this point, and I'm thinking... seriously? She's just going to jump into bed with him? This writer is writing herself into a corner here... but then it goes in a different direction and she just gets a little taste. Then later she gets a little more of a taste. Then later a little more. Very nice pacing in this aspect of the story.

What could use some work:
So here's where it gets tricky. There are several things that I thought could use some work in this book, but just because there are more things on the negative list, I hope that doesn't prevent anyone from reading it, because I really did like this book.

First of all, this book felt like it really dragged out in certain places. Namely, in the many times these two characters pushed each other away. I would have liked to see the pacing in those heartbreaking scenes move a little quicker, and likewise regarding pacing, I would have liked to see it slow down on the love scenes.

I felt like throughout the book, there could use some refining and fine-tuning. For example, there are numerous places throughout when words are used a little to repetitiously within the same sentence, paragraph, or consecutive paragraphs. Going through with an editor's eye would be beneficial.

Then there's the beginning of the book, when we are just being introduced to the characters. We have this naive, goody-two-shoes virgin, who throughout the book is described as being boring, having no life, and having really strict parents, having never really drank but maybe a sip or two before, and so forth. But she curses like a sailor. This doesn't really fit her character, in my opinion. Also towards the beginning of the book, Alex really doesn't seem all that affected (at all) by nearly being attacked by the creeper guy... and while I'm at it, that whole nearly attacked scene could have been written better to sound more ominous and dangerous than it does... but then she wakes up in the middle of the night that night freaking out about it and seeking comfort from a nightmare she had about it. This was a little too forced, and I would have liked to see that being set up a little better than it was.

Now, let me go back to where I mentioned previously about how this book evoked some pretty strong emotions from me. Truth be told, this book pissed me off. I wanted to slap some freaking sense into these characters for being so gosh-darned stupid, SO MANY TIMES!

Finally, there are still some questions I would have liked to see answered that weren't by the end of this book, but I can't really say those without having spoilers, so I'll just leave it at that for now.

Overall, I recommend reading this book, with the caveat that it will not be for everybody. I notice there is a sequel revolving around one of the characters in this book that I really loved to hate. I'm still undecided yet on whether I want to read that one, just to see if it can change my mind about him or not, and maybe even tie up some of the loose ends from the previous book, though I'm not sure that would be possible if it revolves around different characters.

This book got to me. I loved the reading style and I loved how it alternated from his to her POV every chapter. The characters were easy to fall for especially Ryan. You have a girl who feels like she doesn't belong anywhere and a guy who's trying to find his place in life doing their own thing when their lives collide. I love it when characters meet for the first time knowing they are staring at their future and not realizing it. I love books where they have an instant connection but try to fight it. You get that with this book. It has a lot of steamy scenes in it but it takes awhile for them to actually get to that point and even longer for them to actually go through with it. I felt things with this book. I was angry at time, frustrated, happy, excited, and anxious as well. I read it in one sitting so it's not that long but it's worth the time. It did drag in places but I didn't mind to much. I read a lot of reviews before reading this one. For the record, she does cry a lot but she's 18 and has serious issues. I couldn't really call her on that because I understood. They do go back and forth a lot but I didn't really mind that either until the end and by then it was getting on my nerves a bit but it didn't stop me from finishing. Over all it's a great book.

Without giving to much away there is an incident at the library in which Ryan saves Alex from something horrible. They begin a friendship/relationship. It's not rainbows and sunshine and things get rough but if they make it they could have something beautiful.

I am giving this book 4 stars. The book ends abruptly. There is no epilogue and I felt like it was gonna be good from that point. I was disappointed because I wanted to see if they made it to the wedding. I wanted to know what would happen once he went back home. Instead I got a book that just...stopped. Other than that the back and forth got on my nerves a bit too. I hope there will be a second book about them. If you're looking for a good college romance with curves and bumps in the road then read this book!

Favorite Quotes:

"Alex, I'm going to be your first."

"I'm not your TA. Right or wrong, I'm the man who is deeply in love with you."

This book was amazing! This book hooked me from the very first page and kept me going right up until the very last word. I literally couldn't put it down because I HAD to know what happened. I actually read the book in one sitting and I'm so bummed now that I've finished it...I didn't want it to end...lol:)

I know this book has gotten a lukewarm reception, but it truly is a great book. Alex and Ryan are awesome characters that really come to life and very real. Ryan is your average good guy with some rough edges. He's emotionally unavailable because he's afraid of being hurt. He's a very vulnerable character, which just makes him more lovable. Alex has the exact same vulnerability and it was wonderful seeing these two characters come together and realize the error of their ways.

I know that many people hated two specific things about the book. The first one is that Ryan and Alex tend to go back and forth between wanting to be together and not wanting to be together. I could sort of see where that could annoy some readers, but the back and forth was a direct result of their fears and vulnerabilities. I couldn't fault them for loving and then running. Loving someone is a very scary thing and sometimes it can cause people to be very indecisive. Another issue people had was that Alex cried too often. Yes, Alex does cry a lot, but she's also an eighteen year old young woman who doesn't feel like she's loved, wanted, or fits in anywhere, so what do you expect? Do you expect her to be happy and skip to class? I thought that her emotional instability was really normal considering her age and circumstances.

In all, this book was a beautifully written story about the chances that two broken people take to try and love each other. Yes, there are hard time, but there are other times when the love just jumps right off the page and warms your heart. It really is an amazing book and one that has given me a serious book hangover!

This was just... Overkill.

It honestly had the potential... Alex could be pretty witty at times, and Ryan wasn't too bad himself, but it was all overshadowed by too much crying, too much indecision, and too many sociopath characters thrown in along the way. Really, how utterly unreal is it that every guy - except for Ryan, that Chris person, and that stepdad Stephen - in this book is an a**hole?

Alex had the knack for attracting lewd guys almost every chapter, and she did admit it herself. Ryan was worse than a girl with his indecisiveness. They were normal and cute at times, but then they were mostly frustrating as the story progressed. Alex was like a battered wife - minus the battering - who tells herself it's over, then gives their non-relationship another chance, then gets her heart broken, then swears off guys... and the cycle is repeated all over again. By the third time around, I was more exhausted than sympathetic of her.

Alex reminded me a bit of the girls from Twilight and Fifty Shades in that they were virgins who needed to be saved multiple times. Not a good thing since I practically puked over those books. If only this was a novella with just one moment of indecision between the characters and more witty lines thrown in, this might have been a gem.

Loved Alex and Ryan's story in College Girl!

As a fan if C.J. Valles' Ever series and Darkly Dreaming series and wanting more stories of falling in love while hitting a few bumps, I searched and found she writes as Sheila Grace, too. College girl is the first in a series of 2 (so far), but can be read as a standalone.

I loved the story of Alex and Ryan from the beginning through to the end with every little and big bump in the road. I like stories that have the characters experiencing angst and finding their way. College Girl provided the ups and downs that I need to say, "What a great story! "

There are scenes that are graphic with sex and with violence.

Note: I can't wait to see how the author handles James McDevitt's story in the second book, James. He's quite the character!

well...this book could have been better. firstly the insta love by 20%??? I seriously lold at that. it started really good, fast but believable until she told him she was in love...what? the author could have made her more mature that way and invested in building their relationship in a believable way I stead of all the leave and come back shit. anyway, was still a decent read but caused some lol moments when they weren't intended to be.

This did not do it for me. I felt like Alex was a whiny immature child. Constantly crying. No backbone at all. I did not feel his love for her was real... It seemed like he just wanted to bed her, that's all. She fell in love too fast. I guess no one could be interested in her other than Ryan that could be decent. Of course, not.

This could have been a good book but instead we got a stupid virgen heroine that couldn't make up her mind and a horny hero . Alex was annoying as hell with her crying over everything. That's why I prefer the ladies with experience to the virgens , if the heroine wasn't a virgen the story would have moved on but instead it went on forever with Alex talking about love and all that bullshit .

This book was better than I thought it would be. I liked the characters and the plot...my only complaint was that the girl-Alex cried WAY to much and it got to be annoying. Plus I would have likes an epilogue.... other than that it was a good story. I liked Ryan's Pov a lot.

This book feels like it’s straight out of Wattpad. Shes a clueless little prude and he’s a sexually insatiable creep with a bad boy attitude who lusts after her 24/7 and is obsessed with being her first. Oh boy. The book tries to make it seem like he’s actually interested in her but all he can talk and think about is getting in her pants. Annoying and shallow.

So many things with this book are wrong and infuriating that I won’t bother to take the time and list them here. And let’s just forget the writing style.

My first read by this author and College Girl was a good book but fell a bit short for me...I enjoyed the dual POV of main characters Alex & Ryan but struggled with their indecisiveness, the constant push and pull between them for endless chapters...the storyline outside of that was solid and interesting...steam level was high...the book ended with a HEA so all is harmonious...decent read...Happy Reading to you!!

It was pretty good. The character development was pretty well done but I felt like too much emphasis was placed on her young age and small size being his attraction more than who she was as a person. Also it was weird how every other guy than Ryan was depicted as an attacker or rapist. And Ryan's violence against them glorified a bit much. However I really identified with her and her roommate and friends, I loved the college references as it reminded me of myself when I was in college and hating the dorm life.

2/5. Wasn't very into it, didn't really care much. Very instalovey and the back and forth between them was too much as times. The main girl was too out there sometimes. Story was too long. The plot was sometimes all over the place, sometimes it made no sense. Favorite charatcer was the dog Finn. A disapointing read for me.

While I am a huge fan of the student/teacher genre, College Girl didn't make the grade for me.

Alex Reed is 18 years old and in college. She has no idea what she wants to do with her life as of yet, so she is doing what her mother wants and working on becoming a doctor. Alex is pretty much a loaner at school, we don't hear of many friends except for the girl across the hall. She doesn't get along with her slutty roommate and is usually locked out while the roommate sleeps with the guys on the second floor. Alex is a virgin, never been kissed, so she just admires hot guys from afar until she sees the Calculus TA Ryan Bennett.

Ryan Bennett is a 28 year old mess. He is still living under his parents thumb due to the family business. He is a bit of a black sheep because he went back to college to further his education. Ryan's family is wealthy, something he tends to disassociate himself from. He has a trampy ex-fiance who is still in the picture, an over bearing mother still controlling him and an idiot friend he needed to cut loose long ago. The ten year spread is believable in this book because Ryan seems quite immature to me.

Ryan sees Alex and is instantly attracted to her. Kudos to Alex for playing hard to get at first, seeing how Ryan sounded like the whole package. I didn't feel a connection with Alex's character right off the bat. Maybe it was because she is 18 and I am 42,I don't know, but I found her annoying. She was either making a dumb comment or crying or wondering why Ryan wanted to be with her out of all of the girls he could have. Ryan was the same way, he wanted her, but didn't because of her age, but did because he felt something. I don't know, while I like the angst in my reads, this wasn't doing it for me. I think it was the lack of character connection early in the book that made me not really care one way or the other.

I did finish the book and wasn't happy with the ending either as it seemed to just drop off. Maybe a little look see into the future a bit with them would have been nice. I like the student/teacher story when the student is a little more mature, maybe with some life altering past that makes her seem older than she really is.
