I picked this up after watching a video for horror manga recommendations by The Anime Man. I love body-horror manga and animal fiction; so I had to read this. Also, the fact that I never heard of this manga before until today, made me all the more curious.
Sadly, the first volume didn't impress me that much.
The theme is original and I much more prefer it to the done to death zombie apocalypse stories that I keep coming across everywhere. The plot is pretty much animals in a zoo get experimented on, develop human faces, and start eating people. Sounds just like a Furry!AU Attack on Titan now that I think about it, which is super cool to know that such a thing exists.
The art is pretty good. Though there is some inconsistency to it. It alternates between the more standard manga look for the characters to the very detailed & scary art when it comes to the monsters. As for the animals, I am not denying that the animals are nightmare fuel, but honestly, you kind of get used to their faces the more you see them (strange ik) so the scare factor kind of decreases the more you read.
It is very early to judge the story but I thought it was ok. The characters are too stereotyped though, but I think that helps as we are much more invested in what happens outside of them than inside of them. Speaking of the characters, I feel uncomfortable with the treatment Hitomi gets in the story. Hence my rating is just two stars. The mangaka can do whatever they want with their manga, but personally, the mixture of fanservice with horror doesn't sit well with me.
The manga so far is extremely mid, but I'm mainly reading it for the weird body horror. If you don't care about story or characters and just want to see human faces on animals and gore, it delivers.
A young man returns to the zoo he loved as a child after many years to find out the animals have mutated and have the faces of humans and can speak. Now he and other zoo goers have to escape while the animals plot revenge against humans and try to take over the world.
All I gotta say is I love the body horror, nightmare fuel imagery, the brutal deaths, and Hanayo ): this series has both unnerved me and broken my heart.
A simple concept but done fantastically! The pacing in some parts is a little off, sometimes even confusing, but the art style and the story itself is fun to get lost in. The body horror aspect of it all is effective- you wouldn't expect "animal with a human face" could be SO creepy, but it absolutely is unnerving! The detail put into these creatures is proof of the artist's love of the horror!

Jesus ducking Christ man wtf was I reading?! All I'm looking at is a dumbass of a protagonist being able to get along with the animals when they are their "good form" and then suddenly they become demons appearing with human faces eating humans...
Sorry but imma have to give the "best scary real human face" award to Spirit of the Harvest Moon from "Courage the cowardly dog.
Also the title is funny enough reminding me about Jimin from BTS like I so would prefer reading about him than animals with stupid Photoshop-like "scary" human faces xD
I think this is a good way to start the new year. The visuals are horrifying and so is the concept. I feel for the main character, who has to struggle between feeling repelled and feeling empathetic towards the animals he’s loved for most of his childhood. Well that’s the vibe I got from him. Still, I’m not 100% sold on this manga so I’ll have to pick up the next volume to gauge whether or not I’ll have to drop this series.
I was interested in this one from the creepy uncanny valley panels and covers. It's alright. Not really invested in the characters, but there are some horrific gags that worked. Will probably give volume 2 a shot. Volume 1 ends in a twist that I didn't see coming but is a good setup for the series.
i saw a recommendation of this on tiktok, so i decided to check it out! its actually not that bad, but i think the plot is a bit dry, but the art is very scary! I wish there was more of the horror aspect and a lot less fan service, but overall, it was a good read!
-Very chilling, mysterious, and intriguing plot that had me on my seat, wanting more. -Most utterly terrifying imagery I have ever seen. Use of contrast in realism between the animals and humans is brilliant. -Body horror at its finest. Breathtaking artwork that gave me chills. First time I felt absolutely creepy out by a horror manga. -Binged this volume in one night. Great twist/reveal at the end that left me extremely excited for the next chapters. -*Trigger Warning: adult language, blood, gore, body horror, anthropomorphism, animal cruelty, death, decapitation, cannibalism, extreme graphic imagery, mutilation, torn limbs, possible human and animal experimentation, skinned corpses, impalement, child death*
Oh god, this is nightmare fuel. The art is so nightmarish but well done. I can't tear my eyes away even with how much I will myself too. Not typically something any of my GoodReads friends like to pick up but hey, try new stuff right?
And thanks, Joey (The Anime Man), for recommending this. My sanity needed this,
I decided to read this after watching the Anime Man's review while looking for horror recs. I have since stopped watching his channel since this is the second time he's hyped up a horror story only for it to be ugly and disappointing. Yeah, sure, the faces are horrifying - for like one chapter. Once I got used to it, I stopped seeing the supposedly "nightmare fuel" faces and started seeing nothing but the ugly grain over everything and the fact that the faces look more like masks than part of the animal. The animal's motives are just about as weak as the writing, and the manga likes to lean into shock value more than it's own narrative.
