Consuming Lord Veles's life force has only made him stronger. But does Gael truly have what it takes to break free from his Maker?

I have always loved the supernatural, starting with an early-age addiction to the Queen of Paranormal, Anne Rice (God rest her soul, that brilliant woman!).

My motto is simple: write fast, publish fast, keep it fun. My stories are snarky, edgy, occasionally bloody, and seriously addictive!

She’s done it again! Whenever I start reading a book by Alex Fox. I know I am in for a treat. I have come to expect that from one of my favorite authors. I just don’t know how she manages to write a better book than the last, but I am so glad she does! While you could read Night Bird as a standalone, I highly recommend starting from the beginning with Rebel Magic.

Each book develops in such a way that you truly come to understand the characters and their individual stories. Like a painting by a master craftsman, the levels of nuance build up to a work of art. This is exactly what you will find in this series. Ms Fox puts an amazing amount of work into her craft, and you will be absolutely enthralled at the results.

If you have read any of my reviews for The Rebel Magic Series, you may skip the next paragraph or two. If not, please read on.

On August 20, 2022 I picked up my very first Rebel Magic book on a total whim. The cover was intriguing, the concept seemed like fun, and the blurb sounded like a fun few hours of reading.

I am SO happy I made that decision. I originally borrowed the book (I am a Kindle Unlimited Subscriber), but after finishing it that evening, I purchased a copy the next morning. Over the next week I binged the next five books, each better than the last.

Since that time, I have purchased and devoured every other book in the series. I’ve also started at the beginning and re-read each of them again. Trust me, they are better the second time.

So, if you are looking for an absolutely stunning book to read, look no further. You have found the Holy Grail. Grab any book written by Alex Fox. You will not be disappointed.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and I honestly loved it.

This story begins with the fallout of the events in the previous book, where not Rebel's ward, Moni, got kidnapped, but her heart got a little broken at the end.

Three month later Rebel is still pissed at the man who broke her trust, and while Kodi is a comfortable and soothing presence, a blast from the past, ultimately her heart and brain must align to make a decision.

This book is not as action packed as the others. That is not to say that there is no action, but a good part of the book is a breather, which not only an interesting change in the pace but totally necessary. The Raven Mocker must take stock of who she is and who and what's important to her.

We'll also delve into new mythological pantheons, and will get an insight into how Godhood works in this world.

As usual, it's a book packed full of (smart) snark and humour, and as I said, the action comes later, but it is definitely not lacking.

As always, Alex Fox delivered! Rebel has come such a long way in so many senses of the word (physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally) and each book I wonder what will happen to her next. This book was no different.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, couldn't put it down, and can't wait to read it again.

Also, as an Oklahoman with Cherokee ancestry, these characters hit close to home and I am here for it, for as long as Fox will write the series. Every book is 5 stars. Hands down.

I recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a supernatural adventure, and to those who don’t, this is the series to try, you’ll love it.

Thoroughly enjoy these characters, Alex’s imagination in writing the Rebel Magic series show such depth, yes they are fast paced but packed full of the gamut of emotions. The books contain so much I cannot begin to extol them enough.

After reading Night Bird I realised Alex could take us along anywhere, am on the edge of my seat awaiting Book 15.

Rebel has too many men on her mind. She is in Oklahoma and feeling well loved by Kody but can’t stop thinking of that dratted vampire, Gael. The leader of the New Orleans Nocturne, done her wrong and endangered Rebel’s Ward Monique Vu. She hasn’t seen him in months and if more time passes before she runs into him, all the better. Imagine her surprise when he turns up only hours after she returns to New Orleans, needing her help. Another of his late wife’s victims needs aid and Rebel may be the only one who can give it. Well Rebel isn’t about to let the late vampire bitch claim anyone else so she jumps in headfirst. Of course, that means neck deep in trouble.
This story is full of snark, humour and action and ands with yet another of Alex’s cliffhangers. Hey, it makes us get the next book, right.

2 ⭐️ Fade to Black 📖

I do like the representation of Indigenous culture but felt like the book was unfinished and it just made me mad lol

Probably won’t move forward with this series and leave my journey with it here
