Halloween LaVeau is the new leader of the Underworld, but before the ink's dry on her business cards, a mysterious man appears, claiming the title belongs to him. Giovanni St. Clair declares he has proof that he's the true owner of the Book of Mystics, and therefore, the leader of the Underworld.
Halloween has reason to believe that Giovanni's motives are nothing but sinister. Not only must she defend her status as the witch in charge, but Halloween has to protect the world from a coven she inadvertently reanimates.
Sexy brothers, Liam Rankin and Nicolas Marcos, band together to help Halloween discover the stranger's true intentions and attempt to cast the reanimated coven back to the grave where they belong.

this was so badly written. there was so much confusion. it just jumped from one scene to another, in such a hurry. instead of making it fast paced, it just became plain difficult to figure out. i was like"how & when did this happen" the narrations & mc character doesn't develop either. i rather see halloween strong and at least a little bit sure of herself. but she continues to be naive & silly.
I felt this was the weakest book in the series, thus far. It's so hard to read a book that is fully explained, as if it's for children, when it's categorized as adult para-rom fiction. I love the character (Halloween) no doubt. But, she needs some work in the structure of the plot. Her ideas, complications and even her set-backs are explained to death. Every single step or direction she goes in, the author is sure to tell us the back story and the needless details from the previous two books. I love this author's imagination, but the writing skills need work.
Liked it, but midway through the book I got a little confused and it felt like there was pages missing, I had to flip back to make sure I didn't miss anything. Without spoiling the story, one of the characters disappeared and became the bad guy even though there was no mention of them running off until it was said that they were unheard of for days. I felt like I missed something. But still a quick, fun read.
This the third book in the series. It is mildly enjoyable. My biggest issue is that the main character, Hallie ( AKA Halloween) doesn't seem to learn anything. She just rushes from one mess to the next. In the first book, it was rather humorous, but by now it's just tedious. Don't think I'll be reading the rest, because this one was annoying.
I loved the first 2 books in the series. This one however, did not meet expectations. The dialogue was stilted, the plot very immature, the repeated bad spells boring. The high point was 1785 coven. Those ladies were funny
Very much enjoyed this one. Nothing like dealing with a coven you grew up with where everyone in it knew you as a screw-up,. Add in one from 1785, whose dress and manners are on a completely different scale. Not to mention one newly formed whose leader is from 1985. Poor Hallie has her hands full. At least her ever faithfully if paranormal fearful friend Annebelle is there at her side, along with Liam, Nicolas, and let's never forget Mom. What will happen the next time she opens the book is anyone's guess, but it's almost certain to land her In more trouble u able no matter what s he does.
This was just another funny and complicated Hallie style. I laughed quite a few times at the shenanigans that the coven she brought back from the underworld got into. while Halle is trying to battle Giovanni for the book. Also was dealing for her feelings of both Nicholas and Liam. There were some twists and turns along the way, and there’s a bit of a cliffhanger at the end. I wasn’t as engaged in this story as I was with the other ones, but it still was an enjoyable read.

I tried to give this series a chance, because I like the author, but after three books Hallie is still so naive and gullible! It's annoying how she is still bumbling around and doesn't know anything, and she never trusts her gut! Ughh
Halloween tells Giovani to get lose. He tells her he’ll be back for the book of Mystics. On the way back, there’s a car on their tail and it won’t pass. Halloween goes to call the police, but the car zips pass. Halloween gets a look at the car. It’s black and she’s sure it’s Giovanni and not surprised he’s followed them. After the car is gone, Haloween gets back to her place, she gets a call from Giovani again saying he’s coming for the book. Halloween tells him she doesn’t appreciate him driving like a maniac and slamming on his breaks in front of them, but he claims he doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
As they wait for Giovani, Nicholas, Hallie, John and Anna feel a strange sensation that resembles thick soup. When they (Nicolas and J Johns) check it out tho, there’s no one outside. When he gets there, Giovani tells Hallie she has the book illegarly. He says the book was stolen from him by a woman named Gina Rochester (Nicholas’s mother). Nicholas immediately hops to his mother’s defense. Hallie says he has no proof of this, but he says he does He says his mother was the owner of the book. It disappeared and then Nicholas’s mother became leader. Obviously she stole the book. Hallie speaks to him privately and Hallie asks him how come if his mother had the book she wasn’t the leader. He says she only had it an hour. Then he says he can prove it if she lets him see it. She says no way! He says only the books true owner can add a spell to it and he can do this. He asks if she can, but she says she can’t tell him that. That proves it to him and he says he wants to show her the spell his mother added. Then he can add one.
Hallie says he’ll need more proof and she’ll need more time to research this. Hallie checks on the book just to make sure. Liam calls and says he’ll have the guy checked out and his claims since he’s never heard of either. Hallie flips through the books but has no idea of how to find the spell or who wrote it. Some isn’t even in English. The books points her to a spell for clarity. Immediately after she feels someone watching her. When she turns around she sees a group of women in black dresses and tall pointed hats asking her accusingly what she’s done. One of them’s name is Rebecca Green, amother is Kimberly Adams. Then there’s Barbara Crane and Sara Kirkpatrick. They’re the Enchantment Point Coven back in 1785. They got hanged for witchcraft.
Halloween says she’ll send them back, but they say if she brought them there it was for a reason. Then they recognize the book and who Halloween must be. Halloween has no choice but to let them stay. She puts them on the first floor but they want to stay on the third. Halloween looks at the book again the next day and it takes her to another spell, but nothing happens. Then the witches come down for breakfast and are introduced to Nicholas. Hallie catches the witches up. They said they haven’t heard of that but it doesn’t mean it’s not true. They also ask to see the book. Hallie doesn’t trust then but she retrieves the book.
The old school witches can’t read all the book. Hallie can’t read all the book. Rebecca tho can read how the spells are listed. She knew the alchemist that created the books symbols. Hallie’s great (great) ( great) grandfather. She finds the symbol on a spell but can’t read the spell. Liam calls and gives Hallie the bad news that there’s a woman there that’s in a coven Enchantment Point that says they’re from the eighties. He says he’ll bring her over. When Hallie goes to the door to meet Anabelle, she hears a crash and sees black smoke. When she comes back there are six clones of Nicholas. (Rebecca’s doing. Ok can’t say I blame her. This *has* crossed my mind I admit). Hallie sees John outside talking to a man she doesn’t recognize but he says he’s just a friend. He told him to meet him there since he was in the area. Hallie leaves him and Anabelle to talk hoping Anabelle will find out more about the man.
After they pull another prank where they’re all wearing Hallie’s outfit, she tells them no more magic. Halloween and Nicholas hear a sound and find a piece of paper outside with a symbol. She recognizes it It was on the coven member’s skirts. Misty says there’s a book that might tell more about the witches in “the magical section”. On the way back to the car, they catch Kevin casting a spell by the side of the building. He catches them watching him and they get out of there. The witches are already by the car. Kevin gets in front of the car and puts his hands on the hood. When Halloween rolls down the window and asks what he wants he apologizes and says “he thought they were having car problems”. He explains it off that he was just doing a spell to make sure he had a good day at work. Hellie makes Annabelle promise to find out from John who he is. Rebecca says he’s the devil.
After going to the library to research the witches, Hallie returns home. Liam brings over Kelly Killebrew. Kelly was a member of the coven in Enchantment Point but says she was killed in a car accident. Hallie apologizes for brining her back, but Kelly says she thinks she was brought back for a reason and she plans to find out what it is. There’s something she wants to make right. Liam, Nicolas, and John discuss Kevin briefly. John says he only just meet him and he mentioned to him someone who had a motorcycle for sale. They all leave to check him out. Hallie finds out Kelly wants her to reanimate her parents.
Hallie tries to get some information out of Kelly, but her memories are cloudy since she’s returned. She remembers the last leader was tall, dark, and a man. She questions the old schoolers about the symbol on their skirts They say it helps them with spellwork. Then she shows them the piece of paper and they say the symbols is similar to there’s. They tested a lot of symbols. Hallie sasks if they’ll help her with a spell and she takes them to the library and shows them . They agree and they cast a speel to remove recent spells in the book. It doesn’t work. Rebecca suggests Hallie try to add her own spell to the book or put a spell on the book so that no one can tough it. So they aide her in perfoming a spell, None of the spells she tries works. Then Giovanni shows up.
True to his word, he adds a spell to the book, but Anabelle snatches it and runs before he can take it. She runs into the woods and Hallie zaps him before he can catch her. Kelly and Hallie go to find Anabelle but a stranger in a white car tells them they have a flat. Magicially it’s fixed but not by either woman’s magic. Anabelle isn’t at her house so they go to the Bubbling Cauldron and find the guys. Hallie gets a call from her mom and she says she has the book. Anabelle calls on the way to her moms and says she has to tell her something but the phone cuts off. (Liam and Nicolas also have had problems with their phones). Hallie’s mom tells them Anablle is with Misty and the guy from the bar.
When they find Anabelle, she tells them she overheard Kevin talking to Giovanni about not having the book yet. She was with Misty because she said she had a surprise for Halloween. When Hallie gets home, the old witches have destroyed her kitchen and clothes in attempt to “make her life easier” by cleaning and doing laundry. They all head for the Bubbling Cauldron again. Kelly says she thinks she has something of Giovanni’s and produces a pouch with the same symbol on her shirt and the witches’ skirts. With the help of the New Orleans coven, they track Misty and the men down to a vampire bar. Misty confesses Giovanni offered her a position and they came to meet with someone who never showed. He said that he was going to be the head of the Underworld and had a special position for her and she really wanted the position.
Misty says the men went to another bar called “Spells and Spirits”. Hallie makes Misty go with them. Misty seems to recognize Kelly but she can’t place her. The find Giovani but he gets away. Back at the manor, Nicolas and Hallie see Giovanni sneaking around in the woods. They try to go over him but he traps them in a barrier. Finally they escape by calling on the elements. Luckily Hallie’s neighbor is fine. Now around Chapter 26 is where it gets murky. Kelly’s disappeared for a minute with Giovanni. They see her at a festival, Halloween’s mom is throwing. Hallie finds out she was looking at a book with dark spells in the back of it. Nicolas and Hallie do a locator spell to track Kely but when they get there the house is abandoned and the neighboor says a witch lived there named Kelly. She says that she was someone important in the Underworld. When they go back to question the lady at the festival who sold them the book, she’s gone.
Hallie finds o ut that the symbols on the witch’s skirts were used also in Hallie’s era, but they say they don’t know anything about it (again). The lady from the bakery (Constance) tells Hallie that she recognizes Kelly. She knows her as a ldear of the Underworld whose power was stipped by Hallie’s (grandmother?). She says she (Kelly) still has an aunt there and tells her where she can be found. They track down the aunt (Patricia) who tells them Kelly was stripped of her power because she wanted some bad witches removed. A picture confirms that she *was* the leader.
Back at the manor, Liam calls and says he needs them to come to the Plantation. So, Nicolas, Hallie, and Anabelle head there. When they get to the Plantation, Liam is leaving with Kelly. They find out she’s forcing him to go to Giovani. Giovani shows up and he does a spell that makes Hallie, Anabelle, and Nick go to the house. Then he traps them inside. The old school witches show up and do a spell that unlock the door. Along with Hallie, they do another spell, but Kevin, Giovani, and Kelly escape. Back at the manor, Hallie does a spell to bring Kelly to her. She says she was trying to get the book but she always had it. She then takes off in a run.
Kelly and Hallie have a confrontation. Kelly says she was looking for Hallie’s aunt Madeline.when she found out she’d passed she came for Hallie and her position as leader. She says she tried to strip her of her powers and threatened to have her burned at the stake. She finds out Giovani just made it look like he added a spell and his mother never did. She says she knows Giovani will help her become the leader again and get rid of Hallie. Giovani, Kevin, and the lady from the festival show up. The other lady wanted Hallie to use the black magic spells so they’d back fire. Hallie finds a spell in the book to get rid of them. Giovani is able to get to the book after Hallie thoughtlessly leaves it in the hallway. Kelly does the spell and it slows him down and makes him fall. She’s able to grab the book back. Then she and the whole coven chant the spell. Kelly and the others disappear. Hallie hides the book back in her room. Misty comes by and Hallie suspends her temporarly but not she has to pick a leader. She gives the position to Nicholas. Charlie Scoo comes to investigate Hallie for brining back an entire conven.
MY THOUGHTS: REPEATIVE! REPEATIVE! REPEATIVE! This was WAY too OVER EXPLAINED! Halloween was always explaining to someone about what Giovani did or about what she did (to bring the witches there). I was reading the reviews for this and I kept seeing the word “confusing” and at first I thought *I* was missing something but then I got to Chapter 26. The problem with that was that there needed to be a chapter were it was found or suspected that Kelly was in league with Giovanni. Maybe there was and it was edited out, but it really needed to be included because without it the flow is off. It just jumps from Kelly just kind of being in the background to now all of a sudden she’s evil with no rhyme or reason. I guess the other witches were *suppoed* to be amusing but all they really did was eat throughout the whole book and use magic badly. So this was a little lackluster. Rating: 5

So I started reading this little series because of the cute idea of it. Story isn't overly creative but ok when u just want something lighthearted. My issue is more of whether the books are proof read. If so they need to hire someone new. One moment one person is driving a car then it's actually a different person in next sentence. Next line is original person driving. Things like this happen all through the series but seems to get worse instead of better. Usually things get better over time. Common things like verbs and nouns put in improperly. I know I didn't pay a lot for books but in today's world of technology these books shouldn't be a hot mess, especially with having 4 books in this series and quite a few other books.
I read the two previous books pretty quickly because they're light reading and relatively cute, but this book was incredibly inconsistent. It was like the author forgot who was doing what. Whole segments seemed to be missing and there's a lot of useless running around. It was more confusing than enjoyable which is a shame.
I really enjoyed the first in this series and the second was decent but predictable. This one sadly is barely ok. The writing is good but the story falls flat and the main character is underdeveloped and a bit boring.
Was a little anti-climatic and confusing to me at the end. I felt that the character was a little too naive, considering the culture and life that she was living. Also, the companions that were vampire witches also should have had a little more knowledge and insight for having lived a least a hundred years. At least that's my humble opinion.
I started reading this trilogy about Halloween LaVeau, who inherited her great aunt's mansion. She turned it into a Bed and Breakfast establishment. In the process of cleaning, updating and final presentation, she finds a set of objects that sends her simple world spiraling out of control. She meets two men, that begin a pursuit of her, finds that she can do magic better than ever in her life; and that she is now responsible for many and she's powerful. Although this becomes her new set of circumstances, she is still full of self-doubt and recriminations for past mistakes. She has courage, but still allows others to manipulate and control her.
I understand that going from a nobody to a to a powerful person is daunting and does take time to grow into, but she is so unaware of many things that it's more than awkwardly painful. It's really unbearable. Those around her do help with some counsel, but I felt that in many areas it was lacking. Of course, initially they had their own agendas, but at least she did have one close friend that she could always count on (that was so scared of anything 'witchy'), and was steadfastly loyal and determined to help through it all.
Having said all that, the book has many entertaining points ! Some fight scenes were tame and the final fight I had to reread to get an impact.
Hopefully in Book #4, she will have had time to invest in learning her craft better and take much more control. It takes time to come into your own right and walk in your power and authority! So I'm applying that here!!!
Oh well, I wasnt sure what to think about this, first book was okay, second book amazing, here I was a bit confused, everyone driving around chasing each other but in the end it was interesting and I liked to learn a bit of the coven history. And I just like Halloween, I feel so sorry for her sometimes :D so many problems, she sucks at magic and happens to be the leader of all the paranormal people, but she is funny and just cute. So I am definetely looking forward to the next book even though this serie is not thaaat great but enough to spend some nice relaxing time reading about witches and that I love.
I am impressed by this paranormal series and tend to read these when I want a guaranteed, amusing witchy romance. Halle, unfortunately is still a Klutz when it comes to ruling the others. There are 7 books left in this LaVeau series and will save book 4 to read later. It helps if you read from the start as it can be confusing. Perhaps a prologue explaining the situation up to current book being read.
There are way too many discrepancies in the Cozy Witch books. Names change, locations change, her timelines have no rhyme or reason. First an event is three days away, then it’s one day away, then it’s two days away. Stuff happens that is never explained, it’s just left hanging. The author needs a better editor/proofreader.
So I read books 1, 2, and 3 in a row and unfortunately for me, they did not get better as they went along. The characters make decisions that make no sense book after book. There premises of stories could be good, but the actions of the characters in the books make the plot a bit lack luster. I don't think I'll be finishing the series.
I'm enjoying this series very much! I find the characters are very interesting and this was a wonderful and humorous storyline! Just wondering if the coven from 1785 is going to be permanent characters in future storylines? I hope so! I really enjoy their antics!!!!!
What better than witches at war, well toss in two hot vampires and you have some fun. Poor Halloween had had trouble since she became the leader of the Underworld, but she didn't expect it tho be this bad
With a name like Halloween and being a witch, this series is extremely entertaining. Characters are lovable, and it is good vs evil, with the Good triumphing in the end - at least I think so!
I loved the book till the ending. The ending should always sound final but lead you to want another. I hate when books end with it obvious it's part of a series.
This book is a great read. Not only does it stand by itself but it continues the trials and tribulations that effects Hallie and her new job. I love the collection of characters. A good mix and a good read.
Absolutely love this series can't wait to read what Hallie gets into next. I'm definitely going to be recommending this for family and friends to read.
