When you’ve traveled between worlds, there’s nowhere left to go but home.
Rory has never been so cold in her life. But the biting wind only reminds her of another pain that grows more intense with each passing day. Each night Jaron’s beautiful voice sings in her dreams, and each day her footsteps draw her closer to his side. Danger and intrigue at every turn, no distance is too far when you’re returning for true love.
Rin has spent the last five years searching for Rory across two worlds. Now a series of visions have him convinced he’s growing closer to finding her. But when Rory slips through another portal, taking his visions with her, he finds himself back at square one. To find her now he’ll need the help of an old friend and a little otherworldly magic. This time he intends to bring The Wanderer home for good.
Heather Sutherlin lives in Arkansas with her husband and three children. She loves all things creative and enjoys the worlds she dreams up, longing to live the adventure alongside her characters. When she’s not at her writing desk, she is busy exploring and learning with her children or cooking big, elaborate meals in the kitchen with her husband.
*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Where to begin, where to begin? Reading Wandering was like seeing an old friend really. I found myself thrown into the story a lot quicker than I had been with Seen. The story will tug at your heartstrings as Rory fights to find a way home and Jaron fights to come to understand she isn't lost to him. While there are no evil doers in this story for our trio to fight, there are inner demons they must pass to understand that they have fulfilled the prophecy. I was disappointed in not finding out Cynda's fate. The end of the story will bring a smile to the reader's face and perhaps a tear or two. The book is very well written and while it contains the slight error here and there it's obvious it was missed slight. I guarantee this book will grab the reader and refuse to let go until the words "the end" are seen. And though I am sad to know this is the last I was read about Rory, Joran, Rin, and Zern and all of Rutahn, I give this book 5 of 5 paws
I'm going to give Wandering 5 stars, because I loved the second half. I did not find the ending confusing. Perhaps another review felt that it ended abruptly or that the flash forward at the end (so we can see main characters at a later point in time, when certain events reach resolution) was disconcerting. I can understand that. However, I like the flash forward. I like the closure it offered.
I also continued to enjoy the lush and detailed (even when they're not so lush) settings described in this series. I do recommend these all-age appropriate books for the younger Young Adult crowd.
Also, I do think it's important to note, again, that Sutherlin's ebooks are professionally edited and formatted. At a time when anyone can take a draft and publish it as an ebook, it's hard for readers to know when a manuscript has been released only because it is ready, and when it's just been thrown out there. Sutherlin's books are quality products. You can purchase them with confidence.
When Seen ended in a cliff hanger (literally), I was almost beside myself having to wait to find out what happened to Rory. Wandering takes you through all the emotions as you witness Rory and Rin try to find each other (and don't get me started on poor Jaron). You'll meet new characters and creatures along the way. It's another great adventure!
The saving grace of this book was the love story. The rest of it... eh. I felt a bit let down after reading it. I wanted there to be more. More adventure for the three of them. Let them use their gifts. Something.
