Prefacing this by saying I only read Emily Rath's story in this anthology, and that is what my rating is based on.
I've been dying for Harrison & Somchai's story for ages, and I'm honestly a little disappointed. They were so cute, but this was way too short for my liking! I need more
This was my first time reading a book of short stories and it was a really fun adventure. I wanted to read this book because the proceeds are going to an exceptional cause, but also because I am part of the LGBTQIA+ community and want to show my continuous support and love. Each story is unique, entertaining, and displayed a vast range of writing styles and genres. The line up of authors for this book is also top notch which solidified my desire to read this. It not only allowed me to read more of my favorites authors, but gave me a taste of new to me authors as well. A really unique aspect was that some of the characters and short stories are spin-off's of other completed stories as well as the beginning of future books. Snag this limited edition book while you can!
A book full of adorable meet cutes and a few of my favorite authors? Honestly it doesn't get much better than this! These stories had me laughing, kicking my legs and squealing with excitement. They made me fall in love with so many characters, which is really hard to do as anthologies aren't usually my jam... Have no fear reader, this anthology is worth it! It has a little bit of everything for everyone. With a diverse cast of main characters, identities, and sexualities, there's a story in here that's sure to tug at your heart strings and make you feel SEEN.
Happiest of Release to Queer and Cute! I am reviewing Lemongrass by Emily Rath, which is included in Queer and Cute!
Emily Rath, you never cease to amaze me with your writing prowess. Your ability to write characters with so much depth that I feel & care for them as if they were actual people is top tier. I’m entraptured into your stories with such ease. I loved getting to experience more of Rachel from her books, That One Night, Pucking Around & Pucking Ever After. it was a true delight getting to know more of her twin, Harrison & his love, Somchai with their meet cute. Lemongrass was just a taste, but I wanted the whole damn meal. Thankfully I have learned that they will get more of their own story hopefully coming fall. Insert happy dance here. If you are not in her FB group, I highly recommend remedying that ASAP.
Emily Rath, you’re a gift to the romance world & I will read anything you write. I also cannot wait to read the rest of this incredible anthology with these other wonderful authors. Cheers to love y’all!
Massive thanks to the authors for putting this together & for the gifted arc, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.
I read this for the Emily Rath and Kelly Reynolds' short stories but read all of the stories and had a great time exploring the collection. While not all the stories were for me, I loved the variety of sub-genres as well as LGBTQIA+ rep throughout the collection. There's a little bit for everyone in her.
Keep in mind that the premise for the anthology is 'meet cutes' so many of these stories are HFNs rather than full HEA stories.
Glad I bought a physical copy for my shelf, because it was a lot of fun.
Please note that I only read the short story by Emily Rath and this rating is solely based on her story
I know is an anothology but I wish Emily Rath’s story was a little longer. The content warnings had no context in the 3 chapters we were given and because I loved Harrison and Somchai in Pucking Around, I wish we got more of their story. Keeping my fingers crossed that maybe someday Rath can give us a companion novella like That One Night so that we can have more Harrison and Somchai!
As soon as I heard they Emily was writing this meet cute I knew it would be so good. We meet Harrison when he’s at a food truck ordering Thai food. That’s when Somchai shows his charming self and I’m instantly in love. Harrison can’t stop staring at him and feels this chemistry with him right away. I loved having both of their POVs and I genuinely want their whole story! I need more Emily 🥹🥰
I’ve also read three other stories in this anthology and loved them! Reviews for those to come
I love a meet-cute and these stories were so so swoony! It’s getting the best bite of a cinnamon roll over and over again. This collection includes a range of relationship pairings and a variety of romance subgenres. I loved reading stories from authors I know and love, and authors I haven’t read before and now know I need more of. My heart is so full with this celebration of queer joy and love!
Thank you to the authors for the gifted digital review copy!
Queer & Cute, an anthology of LGBTQIA+ stories. I specifically am reading this for Lemongrass by Emily Rath @emilyrathaurhor as I decided to reread the Jacksonville Rays series before Pucking Wild is released on August 21, 2023. Harrison, Rachel’s sister, meets Somchai at a farmers market. This was an extremely short story about how they meet & start to date. I would love a full length book about them! 🥰
Anthologies are hard to rate. Especially, those with so many authors (variety is great though)! I greatly enjoyed Emily Rath, Heather Nix and Alexis Maness’s stories among others. So, I gave it a 5 for the stories I loved. As a side note: I did think this book would be mostly meetcutes based on the title. A lot were kinky, dark and sexy vs cute but still good. Just as an FYI!
I'll read anything in the Jacksonville Rays universe, and I adore Harrison, so it was fun to read him and Som's meet-cute. I would honestly read an entire book about the two of them, but I'll settle for the little glimpses into their lives that we get in everyone else's books.
I only read 1 title from this collection, the short story "Chevalier, First Class,' by Allison Carr Waechter. It was ok, but extremely short, and a bit odd in the sense that as a prequel to a complete story about the 2 characters, I am a bit dubious about their relationship... The world seemed like it might be interesting, so I'm not set against reading the 1st title - but I'm skeptical.
I skipped over majority of these books but I read maybe 7 of them, they were okay. Lemongrass by Emily Rath is why I picked it up. I would love to hear more of that story.
