BOOK 1: SLEEPING DOGS
Once a lead investigator in the Criminal Investigation Department, DCI Fyfe has been taken off the frontline and reassigned to the Fraud Squad. When Chief Constable Morrison asks him to investigate the church’s finances, Fyfe never dreamed the case would be so dangerous.

BOOK 2: SLEEPING PRETTY

BOOK 3: SLEEPING PARTNER

BOOK 4: STRANGER THINGS
When a young girl’s body is found among the tombstones of a small Edinburgh cemetery, DCI David Fyfe is the first on the scene. But the victim is only a few years older than his own daughter, and Fyfe finds the investigation to be his most difficult yet.

BOOK 5: DANCE OF DEATH

THE DETECTIVE
Detective Chief Inspector David Fyfe is a middle-aged police detective with a fondness for dogs, long hot baths, and the easy way out. His romantic life is complicated and he is frustrated with his assignments in the Fraud Squad. Weary and somewhat disillusioned, he longs to return to violent crime and catching murderous criminals. He grapples with feeling unwanted and overlooked by his superiors. And his controversial past doesn't make things easier.

THE SETTING
Edinburgh is nestled between the southern shore of the Firth of Forth estuary and the picturesque Pentland Hills. The city is divided into two main the Old Town, characterized by its narrow, winding streets and medieval atmosphere, and the New Town, built in the 18th century, with wide, elegant streets and neoclassical and Georgian architecture.

William Paul

Born and brought up in the east of Scotland, William Paul is a former journalist who now earns a living in digital communications but reverts to old-fashioned reporting most weekends by covering rugby matches in both print and digital format.

He's been writing since an early age - somewhere in the attic is a picture of a fresh-faced youth with his first royalty cheque - and sees no reason to stop now.

He got married along the way, has two sons and grandson Aidan to cope with.

His ideas for books come at him from all angles and sometimes he finds it difficult to get all that stuff down on the page before it fades, morphs into something entirely different or simply vanishes from his unreliable memory. Wherever and however ideas end up - on the page or in the bin - they just keep coming.

I bought this thinking it would be an atmospheric Scottish crime series. It kind of isn't. For a start off, the atmosphere of place is undetectable. Worse, the main protagonist turns out to be the very worst kind of cop you could ever imagine. To be honest, he is also the worst kind of man you could ever imagine. He is a slimeball and a total misogynist. Every thought that he thinks involves naked women. Just that. Naked women. Women without substance or personality, just bodies for him to lust over. If I read this series and then met Fyfe in the flesh, I would probably throw up on his shoes at the mere thought of sharing breathing air with the man. He is shudderingly awful. All the men he works with or comes across are equally as disgusting in thought and action, be they priest, civilian, or cop, which makes me shudder to think that so many men may actually be like this and think it okay to dismiss 50% of the population as just sex toys for them to exploit, lust over, and grope, instead of as real people.
One would hope that actually, it's just the author who thinks every man thinks like this, otherwise any women reading this would be put off men for life.

Didn't enjoy any of the books

I thought this would be a really good read. How mistaken can you be. All Fyfe was interested in was having his way with different women! There was too much irrelevant script in all the stories. As a Detective Chief Inspector Fyfe should have been leadig by example not shooting off on a tangent whenever he wanted. I'm surprised that he wasn't found out and reprimanded in the first book. Sorry not my cup of tea!!

Hero? NO.

Thoroughly unlikable main character.
Despite that, the stories are well written and thoroughly enjoyable.
Would I read more? Not sure, although I may read other stories by this writer.

For some reason the first book (dance to death) came last on my kindle. Maybe I would have liked the main character a bit better had I read this first. Very unlikable person.
