Kasia, a 23 year old Polish girl living in London, falls in love with a man much to old for her (Leo, who is 80-something) whilst looking after him a few times per week. Along the way, she finds a personal ad placed in the paper by Leo's grandson, Sam, who sought frivolous flings before embarking on his adventure to Antarctica - a place his grandpa told great stories about when Sam was a child. Kasia then meets and falls in love with Sam, who she sees as the answer, the "young Leo" she was destined to meet. The end of the book ends with Leo's passing and Sam's departure coupled with his promise to return to Kasia in a years time.


best passage:
The reason why we sometimes see a secondary rainbow a bit higher and fainter than the first one is because the sun shines through the drops of rain and bends and splits up in colors. During the process, some of the rays bounce around inside the raindrops a bit more and come out at a different angle, which is why we get a second rainbow further up.

Engaging, funny and insightful though some parts of the story seemed unnecessary. The ending was a let down.
