The Broken Ones #2

Broken Prince

Rate this book
Sometimes, when you're broken, you can heal on your own. Sometimes, you need the help of your friends, your family, and the people you love. Keeping those pieces together when the world seems intent on ripping you apart is the greatest challenge of all. Especially when the ones you love, the ones who hold you together, start falling apart themselves. Arowyn and her family continue on their journey to return the Elven Prince, Shael, to his homeland before he fades and dies. A journey full of triumph and horror, love and sorrow, rips them apart with every fighting moment, and yet brings them together as a family. They don't allow the prophecy to rule their lives. Some don't believe, some don't care. Prophecies aren't written in stone. Events can change. People can change. They are only words. From besieged cites, to the elusive Were and wild Fey, nothing quite prepares them to face their deadliest of enemies, one they didn't know existed. "Broken Prince is a story about love and hope, loss and pain, facing the odds and not giving up. I couldn't put it down!" Wendy Knight, Feudlings "Filled with fantasy, non-stop action and suspense, Broken Prince is a heart-achingly romantic read that had me flipping the pages, needing to know what would happen next to Aro and her boys. The end is bittersweet and perfect, and I need the next installment now!" Trisha Wolfe, Of Silver and Beasts

The Broken Ones #2

Wow ~ one word that could easily sum up this whole review. I fell in love with the cover when I saw it, but now I may love the book more (it’s a tough call). Incredibly well written, I felt every part of the journey like I was right there with Aro and the boys, some of which is so emotional it bought a tear to my eye. The character development is such that it is no longer words on paper, but friends that I’m watching grow, learning who they truely are and how strong they can be. I’m sure I will never tire of these characters, and this series will be read time and time again.

I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Aro, Kei, Prince, Bo and Cain are still on their journey to return Prince to his Elven home, before he weakens and dies. This is complicated with Aro having growing feelings for Prince, as well as dealing with the death of one the boys, meeting new friends and family and Aro mysterious powers seem to be gaining strength. However, there are many dangers in their journey, including a besieged city, wild fey, territorial weres and an enemy far deadlier than all the dangers they have faced combined.

Broken Prince is the second novel in the Broken Ones series, which is a really good YA fantasy book with an interesting plot, nice steady pacing and characters which make you feel like part of the plot. I really like Wylie’s ability to describe the different types of love the characters have for each other, from love between family, to the love between best friends and romantic love.

Aro and her boys just cannot catch a break as they always seem either close to death or trying to run away from danger, however, this does keep you on the edge of your seat. I love how the characters from the last book have grown and we get to find out more about them, although, I would have liked to learn more about Kei and Prince, as I feel we have only just scratched the surface of them. However, one thing I did not like is that I would prefer Aro to end up with Kei as he is nice and is a better person for her, and it also feels a bit wrong that there is romantic tension between Aro and Prince as he is decades, maybe even centuries old and she is a 16 year old girl.

I will definitely be reading the next book, even though I have no idea what will happen next. I recommend Broken Prince to fans of the first book, Broken Aro and people who like good YA fantasy.

I really enjoyed Broken Prince. This fantasy read, I would recommend to older teens and adults. It is a great book. I think you, also, will enjoy this book if you enjoy fantasy novels.
I want to give this book a 100 star rating but it won't let me do that so, its getting 5 stars.
I look forward to reading more books by this author. Every one of her books I have read, I have genuinely loved!!!!

Broken Prince is the second book in the series of The Broken Ones.

The story continues on from the previous book. Aro and her band of survivors are making the journey to return Prince to his homeland. Along the way they encounter new creatures of magic, some good and some evil, make new friends and even lose one dear to their hearts. The prophecy continues to stalk Aro, her strength growing and her unusual grasp of the magic around them saving her and her friends even when all may seem lost.

The story was much more intense than the first book. I still really enjoyed it however instead of feeling lighthearted and anticipating the next chapter in the saga, I felt quite drained and thoughtful by the end. I’m still really anticipating the next book but i have no clue as to where it is headed next. So many more emotions were experienced, and at one point i was in despair as to how it could turn out that way. I understood that it had to be like that (after all it does make it more realistic) however you really want it to work out! At least there is hope.

My feelings for most of the characters didn’t change in the next installment, however I liked much better the character I wasn’t so fond of in the previous book. The relationship between Aro and said character was much clearer and quelled what I thought might be a possible conflict. And due to the action of one character that I really didn’t like before, I like them now. And then due to the actions of another character, I really didn’t like them after that. However not to spoil it but they did redeem themselves (sorry that was so cryptic but if I say names then I feel it spoils it for a potential reader however I also want to be honest).

There were a few instances where the book got a little steamy however it never went past heavy kissing.

The story answered so many questions I had from the previous book however now I have a new list twice as long. I feel like the story is just beginning (in a good way). I’m not sure when the next book is coming out but I sure hope I don’t have to wait too long.

Again I would definitely recommend this book to fantasy and adventure lovers. I definitely think it’s best for you to read the first book in the series however if you read this one first you won’t be at too much of a loss as to what’s going on. There is enough back story to give you understanding (and it's not too much or too repetitive for someone who has read the first book).

Well done Jen Wylie, i haven’t felt this way about a book for a long, long time. Usually i can pick up another book within a day or so after I’ve processed everything. Not so with this series. It’s taken me days to process the story and i don’t want to pick up another book because it won’t be the third installment!

This is the second book in the Broken Ones series. I cannot wait for book three to know what happens next. Aro and her boys story is heartbreaking and wonderful. Of friendships forged through pain and anguish and turned into something beautiful and wonderful. At times my heart felt like it was breaking and I’ll admit it Broken Prince made me cry. Twice! Now that normally does not happen to me. I realized that Jen Wylie has actually created characters that I have come to love and care for, and if they hurt so do I. I would advise to read these books in the order they have been wrote and not as standalone books. I would also recommend remembering Jen Wylie’s name as she is an author with such a wonderful rich imagination that you will want to read more from her.

Opening Scene:

Arowyn looked down. Absently rubbing the mass of white scars across the back of her hands.

The Review:

Aro and her boys need to get Prince home. But as they travel, life interrupts their destination and as further fighting breaks out; they find heartbreak and loss dogging them during their journey. Soon they also realize just how strong they have become, not only as individuals but as family. Sometimes the family you make, is the only thing keeping you standing.

Notable Scene:

She looked up suddenly. They were all leaving her?
Shaking her head frantically, words lodged in her throat. She looked up at Prince. Don’t leave me!
He acknowledged her mental scream with a slight squeeze. “I should stay with Aro.”
Bo stared at her a moment before nodding to Prince. He turned to Cain, “We can do the south wall as well, meet us at the gate.”
Cain nodded.
Without further discussion they set out. Kei turned to her, pulling her out of Prince’s embrace to hold her in one of his own. She held him tightly struggling to calm down. “Be careful.”
He kissed the top of her head. “I will.” He ran off quickly disappearing into the shadows.
Staring after him, a shudder ripped through her. She wrapped her arms around herself, wishing Prince would hold her, comfort her. At the same time she knew better. It wouldn't help. He would say everything would be fine and she would try to believe him. In the end, whatever happened would happen.
She turned when Prince moved and watched him sit down and lean against one of the buildings walls. Frowning, she hesitated a moment before joining him. He looked so tired, so worn out. Concentrating on worrying about him instead of the fighting she knew would soon come helped calm her panic

FTC Advisory: Jen Wylie provided me with a copy of Broken Prince. Published through Untold Press. Kindle Edition. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Wow, where to start? The friends are on the road trying to get Prince back home to Rivenward before it's too late and he dies. The amulet he wore that sustained his magic was stolen by the slavers when he was taken. When Damon ripped the glamor rune exposing Prince as a Fairy, the rest of the friends could see he was suffering from that loss. The only way to save him is to help him get home. That's not as easy as it sounds.

Kei is learning to control his fury on his own, fearful of what may happen to Aro if she continues to take it into herself to calm him down. Aro has been going through some changes of her own. She's sixteen now and maturing. The guys in the group may be her "boys," but she's begun looking at Prince as more than a brother.
This story is as much about Aro's stuggles to grow up and lead her "boy" as it is about helping Prince get home.

Their journey is fraught danger, including one enemy they had no knowledge of. Damon is his usual annoying, cryptic and arrogant self. Along the way to, the friends seek shelter from a major storm in a cave bringing them to the attention of one of the local Were packs. For once, Damon does some good, sending the strange Weres on their way. Along the way, they make new friends and confront more facets of the prophesy.

Prince's situation becomes more dire. Magic is the only way to save him and there is none to be had. Aro takes a desperate chance in creating pack of their own, hoping against hope that it will bring enough magic to save Prince. Love for him drives her to desperate measures more than once, sometimes to his anger. Battles with expected and unexpected foes tests the friends as nothing else can. Sometimes, the only thing those we call family can do to help us is take us home.

This book is fast paced and doesn't let up. I was literally writing the review for Broken Aro while trying to read this book, that's how much I enjoy this series. I started and finished this book in one day, to the exclusion of anything that needed doing. Well written, near perfect editing (I only found one missed error), this book is engrossing. My only problem is having to wait until next year sometime for the next book. Sigh.

I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review and to support the author, Jen Wyle, I purchased an EBook as well.

I read the first book in the Broken Ones series called Broken Aro and was completely taken with the story. The second book, Broken Prince, did not disappoint me in the least. The story is captivating and written well. It moves along at an easy flow, letting the reader assimilate the details at their own pace. I really like the fact that each book has ended in a way that I knew for the moment, Aro and her remaining motley crew are okay. However, the writing is such that the reader will know that there are more adventures, more battles, more deaths and hopefully more happiness to come in the future.

As Aro’s journey continues, her faith in love and hope is tested with the developing relationship with the Prince. Fortunately, she has at her side an array of unique characters that have all come together not only out of need but for a greater purpose. And with the help of her new family, Aro is learning how to survive in this scary new world.

Once again, I find myself wanting to know more and am totally looking forward to finding out what lies ahead for Aro and crew. I gladly recommend this book to anyone from a young teen to an adult.

Broken Prince is the second book in The Broken Ones series and it picks up where Broken Aro left off with Aro and her entourage on a treacherous journey. One of my favorite things about this series is the way in which we are able to watch the different relationships wax and wan. We are enlightened to Aro’s inner feelings without her coming off as playing the sides or anything of that sort.

I was excited about the characters that were introduced into this book (fairies and weres and dragons oh my!) and heartbroken over some losses that I will not spoil for anyone else. Jen has an amazing ability to bring her characters of the page while you get lost in the detailed world she weaves around them.

Aro, Prince, Kei and their crew encounter so many obstacles but the amusing tension between the characters helps smooth over the wracked nerves that are inevitable in a Wylie world! Their goal is to get Prince, who is suffering from some terminal magic loss) home before his demise and it seems time is quickly running out. From start to finish, Aro is fiesty, loving and quickly learning there is more than one definition of “family”. I would (and have) strongly recommend this book to all my adventure, supernatural lovin friends!

“Broken Prince” by Jen Wylie is the continuation of “Broken Aro”, a fantasy tale set in a world of Elves and other magical and supernatural creatures. Arowyn has escaped a slave ship together with some friends but has to brave more adventures thereafter.
In this second book Arowyn and her mixed entourage need to hurry to bring Prince home to save his life.
Like the first book this one is full of turns and unexpected events, the story and the characters are really well written and keep your attention all the way through. Established characters show new sides and come into their own, new characters, for example a were that joins the group, bring new life into the rich and exciting mix.
The adventure part is fun and unpredictable but it is the characters that make this so enjoyable, their sense of honour, loyalty, friendship and their fighting spirit. They are a great bunch that are a pleasure to follow. I don’t venture into the world of fantasy much but I look forward to the next book in the series.

I have to say this series is BEYOND EPIC!!!! Jen Wylie's writing takes on an imagination of such wonder. I loved every bit of Broken Prince. The journey Arowyn and her family embark is always one of love, loss and and so much more. I can't wait to see what Jen comes up with on the next chapter of The Broken Ones. Her words are so captivating, you just can't help but fall into the story and feel for the characters and their world.

Arowyn's feelings are more noticeable than ever and everyone can see it except the one she seeks. That is until her life is hanging in the balance, when he finally decides that he truly does love her as well, it may be too late. If that's not enough, she is still trying to get Prince home where he belongs before time runs out. They are trying to out run another city that has been taken over by an army. With the help of some unlikely friends, Arowyn isn't about to give up, she's lost too much and has gone too far to give up now.

Great story

First, it is important to read Broken Aro. The characters are well developed, the pace is fast and always entertaining. As an adult reading a young adult novel, I never felt the story juvenile or too simple. If you're looking for an exciting read with depth and a goodly dose of action fantasy including the complexities of loving relationships, you will not be disappointed.

Time Management

Broken Prince was a great read! We delve deeper in Aro's world and learn more about her magnificent group of friends she now calls family as they journey to get Prince home. The time restraints put on getting him home really kept me on my toes, and at some points saying "surely they won't stop here, right? He won't make it!" at my book out loud, which, thank goodness I'm stuck at home because I'd be getting looks.

The Dragon and the Prophecy

We delve deeper into the afore-mentioned prophecy, finally learning more about it and getting the character's reactions. I appreciate the varied reactions from each character, such as denial, eagerness, and skepticism.

Dragos comes back (yay!) multiple times throughout the novel, keeping things interesting. We get to see perhaps a softer side to his character as he both helps and hinders the group on their journey. I love learning more about the bad guy, especially when attention shifts to a new threat.

Wylie introduces a new plot point to the series - the Vor. While Dragos becomes less of a threat, there is a new set of creatures that are taking over their world. I like the introduction of a different threat that doesn't focus on the prophecy, it gave me something to be concerned about while the characters had their adventure.

To be in love with a prince

There is a lot of growth demonstrated through the characters. Their relationships evolve greatly from the first book. I love the absolutely adorable brotherly love from Kei, and the older brother vibe I get from Bo (apparently 28 in this world is old... glad I don't live there!).

Aro and Prince's relationship is... so complicated. And angsty. And possibly one sided. I love reading about it! I totally ship them, but I don't even think Prince ships them. Whatever. I will root for it and will probably be very sad at the end of this series.

I love the diverse cast of characters we get to meet in this novel. Aro's family grows - it now includes a Were, which completes the circle of different mythical creatures that make up her group of friends. This is a big talking point throughout the story as they meet different characters; it's unheard of to see human, Were, Elf, and Fey alike working together. I find it opens the story to so many possible avenues and opportunities.

Dying is an art

The strong bond between Aro and her group is a continued display of the importance of family. I absolutely adore that Wylie really reinforces that family can be chosen, and that it's ok to rely on others sometimes.

Another very strong message in Broken Prince was perseverance. Not to spoil anything, but really, these people should all be dead by now, and I think the message that was conveyed through this is that perseverance and family are really the two most important things for these characters. Bonds can heal any wound. I really liked those scenes, even as disgusting as some of them were (gut rot is real, yo).

Left me wanting more

Broken Prince ended in such a way that I quite literally put it down and immediately picked up book three, Broken Promises. How can you not? I just loved the angst and psychological torment, especially toward the end of the book, and I just want to know what's going to happen with that damn prophecy!

Broken Prince by Jen Wylie is book two of the Broken Ones and picks up just a few days after the end of book one. Prince has been revealed as an Elf to his traveling companions by the Dragos, and with that it was also revealed that he is dying. Aro and her newfound family are determined to get Prince home before that happens.

I love the characters of this series. Aro is now sixteen and since the destruction of her home and being taken as a slave, she just keeps getting stronger. The men that have surround her as her family have trained her as her brothers once did, giving her a fighting chance against the magic and evil of the world they find themselves in. They pick up a new character in their family, a were named Garen. I love this new character. He saves Aro from a siege when she is separated from the rest of the men, and it is almost instantly that he begins caring for her (in a protective manner). He makes a fun addition to the group.

Also the story just keeps getting more intricate! First and foremost, the plot for this installment is to get Prince home, to his Elven lands so he can heal and regain his magic, otherwise he will die. Then there's the prophecy about Aro being the returning Queen who will heal the Fey. Aro knows she can take the fury from a Fey because she helps Kei do this, however Kei has asked her to stop because she is changing and can wield the fury once it's hers. Not much is learned about the prophecy in this installment. And the romance in this book....

Aro finally comes to terms with her feelings for Prince, but this book isn't called Broken Prince for no reason. Not only is he dying, but it is painfully obvious his conflicted feelings for Aro. I mean really!!! He risks his life in book one to save her, he's jealous and protective of any man touching her or showing interest in her, and he only smiles when she's around. How hard is it to admit your feelings?!?! Sorry had to vent a little. This particular thread in the story breaks my heart over and over again!

Overall, I loved this book! I think the author kept true to her series and characters, and this installment was better than the first (in my opinion). It was also a clean read with only mild violence, no foul language, and appropriate for age romance. Also blogging communities talk about cross-over reads, or books that span a larger audience than what is intended. This is one of those books! Though it's written for the young adult reader, it can easily be enjoyed by readers of all ages (hey, I'm closing in on thirty and I love it!!!!). So if you enjoy fantasy with an epic adventure, a little romance, and a lot of action/suspense, I highly recommend this book for you. It will not disappoint!

What if a family member is slowly dying? If you had the power to stop that from happening would you do so? Would you sacrifice your life and safety for someone you love? This is what Broken Prince is all about.

Broken Prince picks up from where Broken Aro left off. This band of misfits, composed of 3 humans, one Elven prince and one Fey, is bonded together as a family. In spite of their differences, they continue on their quest save Prince’s life by bringing him home. As they journey through dangerous and unwelcome lands, they risk their lives for each other, and almost end up losing it.

In my humble opinion, Broken Prince far surpassed the emotional depth of book one, Broken Aro. Broken Aro introduced us to all the main characters of this story and laid the ground work so we could understand how this motley crew of humans and other beings bonded and chose to stay together. Broken Prince, however, delved deeper into their relationships and explored those bonds of friendship and family that held them together. Broken Prince also explores the notion that family is more than blood; being part of a family entails a commitment based on friendship, loyalty, disagreements and support, fighting, healing, understanding, tolerance, acceptance and survival.

I am completely in awe of the character of Aro – she is strong, determined, focused and absolutely loyal to her family. She protects, she provides, she nurtures, and she loves. She is truly the heart and soul of her little family. And from all indications, she is also the one person who can save an entire race and foster acceptance and peace among the disparate magical races that inhabit her world.

There are unusual twists and turns in Broken Prince that will make you gasp, make you question how, make you feel anger and fear. And I certainly felt the struggle that Aro was going through as she sought to figure out her feelings for Prince. And there were times when I wanted to take Prince by the shoulders and shake some sense into him.

The ending of Broken Prince is heart clenching and gripping. I found myself crying as I read the last few pages. Though there is a sadness that I felt at the ending of this book, there is also a hope that one day, Aro will find her happiness. I can’t wait for book three to come out – there is still so much to figure out and so much to look forward to. Jen Wylie is truly mastering the art of storytelling and I look forward to finding out how things will turn out for Aro. Will the prophecy come true? I can't wait to find out.

Broken Prince picks up right where Broken Aro left off - with Aro and her family of men on their journey to Princes’ home, with the hopes that they will reach his lands in time for him to stave off death. Similar to Broken Aro we are thrust right into the action. And we experience loss very quickly and very deeply. But we also gain a new family member and go even further into the strangeness that is Aro’s interaction with the supernatural. She is important and the more we see of her the more that becomes clear.

This book definitely has a darker more mature tone than the first. Aro is growing up, and we are growing with her. Like any teenager she is ruled by her emotions. Her loves are intense and rages are much more epic than before. Its interesting because it seems that the more grownup she wants to be the more childish she often acts (which again is typical of teenagers). I have read some of the reviews for these books and I understand some of the more feminist frustrations with Aro : on the one hand continuously attempts to be strong and the hero. On the other hand she is also continuously landing in more danger and having to be rescued by the men around her. I would argue though that this has less to do with her being female and more to do with her being a child growing into her powers. (In a weird way she reminds me of Harry Potter in the later books - super moody, in a rush to meet his destiny but realizing, sometimes too late, that he needs more support than he thought.) But I think that is why we can really identify with her. She is strong. She is impetuous. She will be a force to be reckoned with. She just isn’t there yet.

I loved that we got to see more of the supernatural world here and I hope and pray that even more is revealed throughout the series. It is a unique world and the more we learn of the creatures that inhabit the more intrigued we become. I think that the “romance” between Aro and Prince is heartbreaking, brutal, and beautiful and I cannot wait to see where it goes! (and I hope that it does continue because it seems like we might be seeing a little less of Princes in the next installment). I desperately want to know more about Kei and Garen and I want to see more of how Bo fits into this crazy supernatural family.

All in all I cannot wait to read the next installment. Each book seems to be more nuanced , involved, and captivating and I am anxious to see where we end up.

I read this book in one sit, I loved Broken Aro so much that I needed to know what will happen with this peculiar family. Jen has the wonderful gift of creating feelings with just a couple of words. I missed reading a book that gave me so many mixed feelings.

Aro and her “family” continue their trip while they encounter new challenges, friends and losses. As in the previous books that I have read by Jen, you need to get ready to the journey of your life. You never know what will happen in the next chapter, her books are full of twists and turns that are really unexpected. You can cry, laugh, fall in love and grief in the same book.

I love all Jen´s characters, even the bad ones. I certainly love Kei, he is caring, funny, protective and sexy, all that I want in a boy. I still don´t know which are my feelings for Prince, I kind of had a love-hate relationship with him while reading the book. Sometimes I wanted to punch him in the face, and others he melted my heart so much that I wanted to hug him till he couldn´t breathe. With Prince and Kei, Jen had me in a carrousel of heart- attacks, I was in the edge of having one so many times that I lost the count. A lot of things happen in this book. And don´t make me talk about the end, I cried during the last 10 pages so much that I had to stop to take a break because my vision was blurry and I couldn´t read.

I really like the new characters, Garen is really interesting and I´m sure he´ll be an interesting acquisition. I still don´t know how to feel about Aro. She is an awesome heroine, brave, caring, witty and one of the best female characters ever, but I´m really jealous of her. She has a bunch of guys that would do anything for her, even risk their lives. She also has Kei and that really pisses me because I want him for me xD (I really need to overcome this fictional crush, but I can help it, he is awesome ^.^). I would really like to see a girl in the next book, I think Aro needs a friend and a feminine influence. And maybe she will heat things up.

Once more Jen did it. She created a captivating, emotional and heart-breaking story.

I read book one for a read to review and the amazing Jen Wylie was kind enough to send me book two. Since I was so in love with book one I was very very excited to read this one, and I am now even more in love with this series! A truly epic fantasy filled with adventure prophecy and most of all the lengths people will go for the ones they love....our family.
On the surface this may seem like just a story of a strange group of people who have some how become a family, on a long journey to return one of their own home before the unthinkable happens, but it is so much more than that. The prophecy adds a back round and a mystery that is beautifully woven in with my most favorite part of this book, and that's the deep love, understanding, and loyalty these characters have built with each other. I absolutely love all of these characters and I am constantly in awe of how such a diverse group of people can come together and show such strength and support in times of need. The layers that constantly form make this story more and more fantastic and epic with every page, and I want everyone to know Jen Wylie's writing is beautiful and captivating.
It fascinates me how beautifully tragic this story is, I felt so many things I was whipped from heartbreak and loss to love and joy. I found the core of this story to be very relate able and it may seem odd since it is a fantasy land filled with Elves, Fey, Were, human and more but at the center our feelings and ability to know right from wrong is the same.
"Rot it all" why does this book have to be so awesome, I was so upset when it ended, I can't wait for the next because I want to return to this beautiful place and I want to know when they will be together again and if they will find the answers they need and deserve. Again I will say I CAN NOT wait for the next book and I really really hope I do not have to wait long!!!!!
Oh and also I must say this cover is beautiful I also loved book ones cover they are as hauntingly beautiful as the books.

Loving this series...so much...4.5 stars actually (explanation for the begrudging .5 deduction below)

I did NOT receive this book as a free copy; I received the first one in the series, drank it up, didn't bother to stop to review it, bought this one, ripped through it, will review this one...and only then will I go back to write the review of the first book - you know the one the author actually requested... I think it is quite obvious I loved both of these books...

This book gets much more into the characters; it explores family group dynamics that have developed between the main group as they have travelled and how each of them comes to terms with those roles. The most in-depth look the reader sees is the look into the character of Prince. The story explores who he is as a noble and how he comes to terms with actually experiencing feelings, trying to sort through them, and learn to understand what they mean to him. It is very frustrating to watch him interact with the others sometimes, but it conveys to the reader the frustration he and Aro both feel at different points throughout the story.

This book also introduces and explains more about the history of the world, its mythology, and the interactions of the races. I think the use of the Dragos is an excellent device for bestowing this information, and I like that the parts of the prophesy are so slowly revealed.

My only issue is:
As I read, my mental red pen is a VERY difficult thing to turn off. Occasionally I manage to get too into the story to notice the errors in grammar and punctuation, but rarely do I manage to gloss over the word choice errors. I was able to gloss over the errors in this one quite easily, but I still have to reflect the editing errors in my review. This is the only thing that stuck me on this book and the ONLY reason I knocked off the half star.

This is the second book in the Broken Series by Jen Wylie. Broken Prince starts up where Broken Aro, the first book in the series ends. Before reading this book you really do need to tread Broken Aro. Don't worry my fellow book lovers you won't be disappointed.

This story had me balling my eyes out at times it was so heart breaking. I felt like I was right there with Aro and her family feeling their pain and loss. They suffer much loss in this story but they also make some new friends. Which is helpful because they face a new kind of danger in this book.

Dragos returns a few times with some cryptic messages. He proves to be helpful at times but he's always dangerous. He has a secret to reveal in this book about one of the family members. It causes someone pain.

We get to meet more Were, some Wild Fey, and a new enemy called Vor. Now the Vor can be small shadow things which are dangerous, giant things with sharp teeth and claws and long tails these are very dangerous, or something different. There's many different type of Vor. Someone could very well die facing these and just might.

Will Aro be able to get Prince home without someone else dying or dying herself? Will Prince realize that Aro loves him like a woman loves a man? How does he feel about Aro and could he ever love her the same way? Only way to find out is to buy the book.

I truly loved this book. I enjoyed seeing Aro grow more as a person. I love the family dynamics and the chemistry between them as a whole and in their individual relationships.

This is a story of loss and grief, hope and love, and hard core determination. Jen I don't know how many ways to say it but THANK YOU for writing one of the best books I've read in 2013. I will most definitely be recommending this series to all my friends. I look forward to the next book in the series.

My edition: Kindle

Pages: 346

Series: The Broken Ones #2

Rating: 4

Review: ***Warning: If you have not read the first book there are spoilers.***

I read the first book, Broken Aro, about a month or so ago and really enjoyed it. It was a new take on YA fantasy. Quite refreshing actually. I have a feeling about Kei and Aro. Just the way the prophecy is referenced it seems like there might be a little love relationship between them in the distant/near future. There is also a hint of something with Prince and Aro. I really don't like love triangles.

The story continues on from the first one. They are trying to get Prince home so he doesn't die. As explained at the end in the first book, Elves power is tied to their land. They can leave as long as they have a piece of their homeland with them. Prince use to have an amulet that held his homeland. When caught by the slavers, Prince had his amulet taken away. Slowly he started to die. With this happening, Aro is having a hard time to bare. She doesn't want Prince to die.

Along the way they have some hardships. Meet a Were Garen who joins them and deal with Damon some more. Prince and Aro's relationship is more developed in this book. We go into more depth with Aro's feelings with everyone and the situation on hand. Being a sixteen year old and having to face adult choices is hard. I like that we understand what she is going through.

The writing is superb and the story line was put together nicely. I got caught up in this just like in Broken Aro. Wylie also clears up the little hinted love triangle. I like that. I also like the cover. I love the piercing blue eyes.

Starts right of where it left of with Aro and her boys continuing their journey. It throughs you right back into great action. It was sad when the group experiences another loss and all the pain Aro is going through. You can really get a good sense of all the feelings and hardships they go through. It was heart wrenching, bittersweet yet captivating to the point I couldn't put the book down.

I like the connection she has with Prince and Kei especially all the bickering between them. The addition of Garen adds more of a mix to the group and more magic. The strange powers that Aro shows are extraordinary and they leave you wondering, what exactly is Aro or what is it she's turning into? Aro is a true heroine making sure her boys or family are ok and is willing to do anything for them. It's great also to see the effect she has on all the men whether she or they notice it or not.

The feelings she has for prince and the sweet moments they have are cute. Prince and his erratic behavior towards Aro made me so mad at him at times. It was great how well the story is written that you are drawn into their relationship. Oh the ending was so sad and bittersweet. I honestly didn't expect that ending and I hope there's more to it. I'm just glad that Kei is there for her because he can help her control the fury inside. They also have such a great relationship you can really see the family ties there.

Overall this was a great book, well written that keeps you intrigued. Great action, bittersweet romance and a wonderful family bond. I will be looking forward to the next installment and recommend this series.

Okay, this is an amazing book, but I'm going to take my time before I write a full review. Why? Because I need to do it justice. Hang on lil ponies, review will be written shortly.

I'm back with a full review :)

So, in Broken Aro we're left with the characters facing a long journey to take Prince back to his homeland. Broken Prince picks up there and the crew is off. BUT! not long after the story begins, there's devastation. I won't elaborate, but let me tell you, UGH! my eyes misted over. During their journey, a new character is introduced, and just when you think you will never get over the devastation, you begin to like the new guy...or I wouldn't say guy, he's a....

Of course the whole prophecy thing is brought into play when the infuriating Dragon pops in, but being intrigued enough, he actually helps Aro and the others out...a few times. Shocker, I know.

Broken Prince has plenty of action and near death experiences, but it is the potential LOVE story that grabbed me. I'm a sucker for romance. Fey or Elven Prince? I love Kei, but I really, really, REALLY (in case you didn't get the first really) want Aro and Prince together. But Prince is an arrogant jerk--as most male characters tend to be--and he keeps poor Aro at a distance. Until...

That's all you get. A brief sneak peak, but not enough to give away important details. Oh, wait! Did you want to know who Aro picks? Here it is....Sucker, lol.

Be sure to pick up your copy today...you will NOT be disappointed.

The adventure continues with Aro and her family. In a battle against time Aro need to save her prince before it’s too late. Their journey is filled with danger, battles and creatures. And the closer they get to Prince’s home, the more danger they face.

Will Aro be able to save her prince, or would she herself fall before they reach his homelands?

Oh Wow! Jen doesn't disappoint. Aro is back and she much stronger than before, but also she is growing into a woman. This has it complications with a group of men whom all loves her to death. Aro just keeps surprising me. She is a tough female warrior that stands her ground and fights for those she loves. There were a few moments in Broken Prince where I was dreading to turn the page. Simply nerve wrecking!

I was torn between Kei and Prince in this one. Where Prince was the night in shining armour in the first addition, it was Kei that stepped us this time. So many conflict. I have to admit there was a few times that I wished I could reach into the book and slap Prince. ARRGH! He was so frustrating, and there at the end, he finally came around. Just in time. I was really about to walk over to team Kei.

Jen have created an amazing adventure that is well worth the read. It’s well written with twists and turns that will leave you grabbing your book, tensing up with fear. If you haven’t grabbed the first one, I would suggest starting there. You would be missing some major facts needed for Broken Prince. Well-deserved 5 Stars from me.

This is the second in the great series The Broken Ones. Arowyn and her ‘family’ continue on their journey to the elven homeland to save the elven prince, before he dies. On their way they will feel love, hate, pain and sorrow which will test their friendship and bring them ever closer. As they travel, thoughts are never far away from the prophecy but they are just words, and things can change.

What I liked immediately about this book is that we jump straight into the action. We follow them on their travels with their only thoughts of getting to the elven homeland before Prince fades away. It does not jump into weeks or months but follows them day to day moving slowly on, which I thought worked really well. These characters are all well developed, each one has something to add to the story. Whether it is the other human Bo, or the fey Kei, whose relationship with Aro is so closely bonded you can start to believe the prophecy, or Prince whose feelings are so hidden no one knows what he thinks. We also have a new addition to the family in the form of a Were.

The action never stops, they are once again faced with Damon together with new enemies that leave them in life threatening situations. How can you not feel for Aro as she sees her ‘boys’ in pain? The action scenes are really well written and I have to say graphic but that works for me. I read this in two sittings with the dust bunnies gathering in the corner and didn’t give them a second thought. I can’t wait to read the third.

I really liked this installment. And then, near the end, after a large battle...the result of that threw me out of the story because the outcome was just like, "WHAT? No way that person could survive all this every time! Not when other, physically stronger characters are dropping over smaller injuries! Inconceivable!!! LOL" (I'm trying desperately not to spoil anything so sorry for being rather vague.)

I love the author's way of writing and how she has molded her characters, I really do. I just think, in my humble opinion, she needs to be careful with Arowyn. She's getting really unbelievable too quickly. I'm hoping the author will reign her in a little on the ability wagon in the next book. This happens a lot with stories like these, and I understand you only have a limited space and time to be able to fit all of the character growth in...but that thing near the end-that was just a bit too eye-rolling. I know, I'm jaded. I understand this is someone else's story to tell, and I'm just a spectator. I just can't suspend my disbelief that readily. It bothered me, and I think I need to be honest about it.

All that aside, I really did enjoy the book. Loved the new characters, sad for the ones lost, and looking forward to more! Oh, and the end did make me tear up just a bit. See, I'm not SO jaded, after all. I just enjoy balanced storytelling, and for the most part, I get it from these books. I'll be buying the next one, certainly!

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side!

I loved the first book and I loved this one even more. here we got to see the progress of the journey of Aro and her friends. It was really fast paced and was truly thrilling.

Aro discovers her true potential and also unravels what actually she is, which was really spooky as the author kept the secret securely hidden from the readers.

The bickering between Kei, Aro and Prince really lightened the mood of the readers and the new romantic feelings that Aro develops for Prince was cutie cute!

On the other hand at first Prince acts like a jerk and avoids Aro's feelings but the later on part will really surprise you.

Fresh and new romance, full-on action, spooky suspense and heart wrenching emotional turmoil, all this makes this book an epic read and you're ought to enjoy it thoroughly.

The emotional aspect of Aro's character really made me weep and the loss and devastation that they faced will break your heart too.

The entry of a new character really changed the scenario but that I would like to keep as a secret because it's one of the main reason that will grip your interest and will make you read it until the end.

I recommend this book to all and hope that you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
