American Badass is the true story of a modern day Spartan. Dale Comstock is a Delta Force Operator – a member of America’s secret army; the most enigmatic and combat tested elite counter-terrorism unit in the world. In his action packed story we journey with him from boyhood to manhood into a world of extreme violence where he learns the values of hard work, sacrifice, and love of family. As he succeeds and fails as a Delta Force Operator, Green Beret, husband and father, he elevates the meaning of being an American to being an American Badass.
Dale Comstock is a man who has done it all. As one of the youngest soldiers to be selected for Delta Force, Comstock participated in operations around the world, including Operation: ACID GAMBIT, the famous hostage rescue mission to recover Kurt Muse from Modelo Prison. He also served as a Special Forces team sergeant and a paramilitary contractor in support of the Global War on Terrorism. A trained martial artist, former professional boxer, and a man with a Ph.D, Comstock's dossier reads straight out of a Hollywood action thriller.
AMERICAN BADASS covers his life, starting from when he was a child and leading up to the time where he hangs up his guns for good. Throughout we see examples of his work ethic, which is the basis for his largely successful career. From Panama to Afghanistan and places unknown, we see Comstock's story in his own words: raw, unfiltered, and unapologetic.
If you are looking for a book that provides details of Delta, this is not your book. Comstock is careful not to reveal much about the Unit. This is a story of a remarkable man, one that any supporter of the military can read and get behind.
The prose can be a little rough in parts and there were some minor typos throughout, but that does not stop the book from being an enjoyable read. It is a brief study in what makes Comstock tick, and in turn is an example for what kind of man serves in such elite units.
Critics will say that Comstock is self-aggrandizing, particularly with titling his autobiography AMERICAN BADASS. Given the trials and hardships he has endured and the accomplishments earned, he has every right to call himself a badass, because that is what he is. Definitely a recommended read!
Straight up. Raw. What it really means to be a tier one Delta Force operator. Can’t say enough good things about this. Dale Comstock gives you a very personal memoir, strictly from his perspective with his values front and center. A quick, unpretentious, really great read. A clear sense of integrity anchors every page. I especially appreciated how he consciously avoided risking operational security, even where the risk was low and he clearly had something to gain by publishing. And anyone who titles a chapter “Donkey Turds and Warthogs” has a laugh or two to share. This gives us a privileged glimpse of both what it takes to become a special operations warrior and what special ops warfare is all about. People who can do anything are guarding us.
Great book. He does a fantastic job of giving his readers real insight into the life of a delta operator. His family values and drive for excellence are worthy of imitation!!
