Covers all the basics of cake baking and decorating.
Wouldnt recommend for any baker who knows how to powder and butter a pan for baking, this is too basic.

But a good book for an absolute beginner.

When you get a DK book in your hand you just know things are going to turn out well: or at least that has been the experience so far and this is no exception.

The aim of this book is to teach the beginner how to decorate cakes that will amaze those who see it, no matter what the occasion is. The reader is taken step by step through 20 different decorating projects, their hand being held throughout the entire journey, whilst imparting much knowledge along the way. As you would expect there is also a wealth of great reference information within the book. Nothing is left to chance.

As befits a DK book the photographs and illustrations are excellent, the design is welcoming and clear and you just want to read and read and read. The only downside is that you might spend more time admiring this book and forget to start decorating your cakes. The author should have added a chapter on diplomacy and how you can convince an amazed audience that you did make and decorate the cake and that you didn't cheat and buy it ready made.

There is not much more to say as it would only be padding to this review. If you are a beginner (or even someone who has dabbled but wants to learn how to do things right) to cake decorating then this is a book you should strongly consider. You will probably fall in love with it and it will be a companion for quite a long time in the future.

This book sets the benchmark for how "how to" books should be. So many try and so many fail to reach this level.

Most excellent. Techniques for first part then projects. Lots of the projects are fondant - not my favorite - but are interesting.
