Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.
Solid, but not one to pick up if you just want a quick fill of Conan content. It's focused more on longer stories than the short, meaning that there are more incomplete cases than usual for one volume. A nice selection of characters and some fun ideas overall, it could benefit from more complete packages.
Case Closed Vol. 79 picks up from Gosho Aoyama’s 78th volume, and is another continuation of his long running detective series. This volume is once again packed with exceptional mystery, character drama, character development and small but important progression in the main plot. Although this volume is one out of many, this book particularly stands out with 2 cases containing fan favorite characters, Heiji/Harley and Kaito Kid, who both play major roles in their respective cases. Their appearances bring extra excitement and personality to the volume, making it one of the more memorable entries in the series.
The first case, “The Blush Mermaid,” tells about Kaito Kid, a phantom thief with a penchant for performing amazing heists in dramatic and playful ways. This time, his target will be one very rare jewel. Once again, Conan tries to catch him. The story is fast moving and full of entertaining tricks and disguises that show how creative Kaito kid is and how Conan is quick thinking. What makes this story especially appealing is the respect the two have for each other, despite standing on opposite sides. Their rivalry feels friendly yet competitive. The second case, "Elevator Murder,” brings the story back to a classic detective tone. A murder in an elevator that has apparently been locked from the inside is up to Conan to solve. The case is shorter and easier compared to the others but it still contains the strengths of the series: Well paced clues, satisfying reveal, and traditional myserty writing. It is oen of the cases that reminds readers how sharp Aoyama’s plotting can get when it comes to solving apparently impossible murders.
The final story, “The Vampire’s Mansion” creates an entirely different atmosphere from the previous cases. Conan, Ran and Kogoro go out to a remote mansion said to house vampires and haunted rooms. From eerie photos to secret passageways, strange things begin to happen in the mansion and the whole feeling of this case is darker and more suspenseful than usual.
What makes this volume enjoyable is how well it combines the different types of stories together. The Kaito Kid case is fun and stylish, the elevator is a classic locked room murder and the vampire mansion story adds a suspenseful and unique tale. The main Black Organization storyline does not move much forward here, but the volume still feels important due to strong character moments and variety in mysteries. Overall, Case Closed Vol. 79 is another strong entry in Gosho Aoyama’s long running series.

This volume of Case Closed has the finale from the previous volume starring the Kaido Kid and its a fun one for sure! Definitely when Kaito Kid comes around the stories tend to be a little less heavy and deadly! The next stories main character is the loveable side character Harley Hartwell. Can he solve a murder that takes place in an elevator (with only the dead individual inside) that has all the makings of a suicide?!? I do feel these kids should be scared for life and have traumatic nightmares and shrinks. ha ha ha The next story actually shocks me that it took 79 volumes to get to...a vampire murder! Forgive me if some small story in the past was about vampires but if so, it is not coming to mind at all. The missing individual in question is appearing to have all the traits that we are familiar with of a vampire...which makes this story extra entertaining. As the story progresses, our sleuths start to put together how these vampire acts are actually being done. The shocking piece of this story is more and more people than I expected ended up being killed before the culprit is found! This is the reason for the cover art on this particular volume as well. What's even more shocking...is it does not conclude in this volume. So, save up your money and prepare to read the conclusion in volume 80 of this long-running series!
Concluding the Keito Kid story and how the gems on the turtles back was stolen. Then, investigating an old suicide to see if it really was a suicide, Heiji and Kazuha enlist Conan and Ran to help. Sadly, the suicide ends up just being a suicide, but the man's reason for committing suicide happens to live in the same building, and is seen by Heiji and Conan in an elevator window shooting himself in the head! But this one isn't a suicide, so how was it done? Next, Heiji and Conan (and everyone) go to a manor where the master is infatuated with being a vampire, and a mystery unfolds that quickly goes from spooky to deadly as bodies start adding up! This story was so good, with so many misdirects, and I had to start the next volume to see how it all turned out!
Enjoyable mysteries around a theft, a set of suicide and murder, and a seemingly supernatural Dracula tale. The theft is pretty easy and straightforward. The suicide and murder case is a little more interesting, but still pretty easy and quick. The supernatural Dracula tale is the gem of this volume. It's fun, a little creepy, not super easy/straightforward, and has some interesting tricks/deceptions.
Heiji juga manis sekali. Cowok Jepang berkulit tan satu itu sama bodohnya kalau mengenai partner mereka. XP
General Synopsis: As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻
DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.
Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.
Characters in this volume:
Personal Opinion: #1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.
#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!
THE BLUSH MERMAID HEIST: KAITOU KID’S VANISHING ACT The Blush Mermaid jewel, displayed on a turtle inside the Suzuki Museum’s water tank, becomes the target of the elusive Kaitou Kid. In a dazzling feat, Kid makes both the turtle and the jewel disappear without a trace. Conan must unravel the magician’s trick and recover the missing treasure before it slips away forever.
STOCK MARKET SCANDAL AND THE ELEVATOR TRAGEDY Heiji, Kazuha, and Inspector Otaki bring Kogoro a complex case involving financial ruin and betrayal. After solving the mystery, the group’s exit takes a deadly turn when a resident mentions how her husband suffered major losses due to the same man’s influence. Moments later, that very man is seen in the elevator—and shocks everyone by shooting himself in full view. Conan senses there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
THE VAMPIRE’S CURSE: A BLOOD-STAINED INHERITANCE A chilling case unfolds when Heiji’s father receives a request to investigate a supposed vampire curse during a family’s inheritance ceremony. At the mansion, the master is found staked in a coffin—only for the body to vanish when Conan and Heiji arrive. Eerie sightings of the master, mysterious deaths mirroring vampire attacks, and sinister omens grip the household. Conan and Heiji must separate fact from legend and prove that a human hand, not a vampire’s bite, is behind the killings.
Lanjutan kasus Kid yang berusaha mencuri permata Blush Mermaid. Wah...baru kali ini Kid melakukan kesalahan fatal. Lucu sekali.
Belum lagi cara membunuhnya seram. Betul-betul horor.
***
Conan tujuh puluh sembilaaaaan ^_^
Kasus Kid diakhiri dengan adegan lucu :D
Kasus kedua sedikit menyedihkan. IMO, mengandung pelajaran agar jadi orang itu jangan terlalu jahat. Banyak yang dendam jadinya.
Kasus terakhir ending-nya gantung lagi. Seram sih, soalnya saya bacanya pas tengah malam. Ta..tapi penasaran. Mumpung sudah punya volume berikutnya, jadi ayo kita lanjutkan :D
Dan lagi, 5 dari 5 bintang untuk Conan. It was amazing. Selalu ^_^

I just want things to make sense, but the cases in this volume and their conclusions are beyond ridiculous and far too convenient. I'm still pretty interested to see how the vampire case will wrap up, though.
