In a city that cannot be found on any map that is inhabited entirely by witches, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves, Kyle McKane is seeking a cure for a curse that turns him into a blood hungry vampire during the night, and leaves him an exhausted, sleep deprived human during the day. Jackie Moore is probably the worst witch in the city apart from her ability to heal wounds and illnesses with a touch of her lips. She rarely sees outsiders and is stunned to come face to teeth with Kyle when he finally succumbs to his hunger and attempts to bite her. Instead she grabs him by the ears and kisses away his curse before he can sink his fangs into her. The problem is that the cure is only temporary until Kyle turns again the next night, and then goes out in search of Jackie so that she can help him, whether she wants to or not.

A witch whose natural ability is healing through kissing and a vampire who’s looking for a cure at all costs is the perfect premise for this lover of paranormal romance. I mean, it’s got everything I love: kissing, witches, vampires and a big bad.
Jackie comes from a long line of witches and the only thing she can do is heal people with her lips. Talk about a bummer. Every spell she tries ends in things blowing up. But when she sees a woman lying in a back alley, she rushes in to help. A vampire with dreamy eyes looks hungry and she reacts without thinking: she kisses him.
Six months ago Kyle was cursed by a witch and he’s determined to seek revenge. During the day, he’s a regular human but at night, he’s a vampire. The witch he encounters in the alley seems to have cured him of vampirism but it soon wears off. He seeks her out, desperate to be free of his curse.
Sparks fly and the more they are around each other, the greater the feelings grow between them. Kyle comes to her rescue and Jackie wonders if he cares for her or is he just after a cure to vampirism.
This is my first book by Mandy and I absolutely loved it! Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading. The plot was original (hard to do in paranormal romance), the characters were quirky yet complex and the dialogue was filled with fantastic lines. It reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, only with more romance.
There were several twists and turns in the story and I gasped in shock twice. Yup, she fooled me and it was so refreshing as I can usually guess what happens next. Well done.
If you are a fan of paranormal romance, you’ve got to give this book a try. You won’t regret it. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
Favorite Character:
Jackie. She’s a timid woman when we first meet her but as the story continues, she grows and is stronger. Kyle calls her “Gorgeous” and I like that. She has a gorgeous soul and her magic is better than her sister’s magic. Jackie reminds me a lot of myself and it was great to see the romance between her and Kyle.
Favorite Quote:
“The only thing vampires possess that comes remotely close to being psychic is the sense of when their match is in danger, sad, angry, that sort of thing.”

The Vampire's Curse de Mandy Rosko Serie Things in the night libro 1
Argumento:
This simply wasn't all that great. But more important in terms of my personal review, it didn't push any pleasure buttons for me. So many times I stopped and asked myself, why do authors do that. Why do they never truly punish the villains? Why do they use the protagonist's capacity to forgive to prove how good they are, even when the person doesn't deserve (hasn't done work toward) forgiveness? Why do they think sappy backstories make them forgivable? Why do they give the male half of a mystical pairing special powers, but not the female? Why do they make female characters so wishy-washy and internally uncertain? Why do they set the bar so low for male characters that they get credit for being wonderful for doing almost nothing? Why do they make twist so damned obvious? Why do some authors make the ultimate villain literally the only other named character in the book (not too hard to figure out when there is only one person on the board)? So many times I found myself asking why did this author have to ruin this book this way. Plus, it took me 3 whole days to finish it. So, it felt like it went on forever.
WHO DOES JESSICA CHOOSE? MIKE THE PSYCHIC DETECTIVE OR KYLE THE CURSED VAMPIRE?
I have been reading Mandy Rosko’s work only for a short time and I happen to think that she is a good author/writer. She gets down to the nitty gritty in her books and wastes no time letting you know just how the story line is headed and how the characters are going to play into the story line. “The Vampire’s Curse” is no exception to the rule.
Jessica Moore is a witch who lives in a city that cannot be found on any map. She helps her mother Patty run her potion shop called “Patty’s Potions.” She can’t get a handle on her magic, but she can heal with the touch of her lips. She works in her mother’s magic store. She has just closed her mother’s shop when she stumbles across some feral vampires attacking another vampire. She saves the vampire from some feral vampires and as he is turning feral and fixing to attack her she just pulls him down to kiss him. He then for some unknown reason turns human again.
Kyle McKane is young man who is cursed by a witch to be a vampire. He is in Griffon looking for the witch so she can break the curse. He enlists the help of Jessica when her kiss turns him human just as he is about to bite her. Now Kyle is wondering what the connection is between Jessica and Mike Carter, the psychic detective who has a crush on Jessica? Who is turning the vampires feral? Will Jessica be able to keep her feelings for Kyle at bay, and vice versa? Will Jessica choose Kyle or Mike, or neither?
Even though Evey is a vampire and a secondary character in this story, she is the one that helps Jessica understand Kyle’s pull to her, and helps Kyle come to grips with his Vampire side. She is actually an AWESOME character for this story.

About the Book:
She'll help him whether she wants to or not...

The problem is that the cure is only temporary until Kyle turns again the next night, and then goes out in search of Jackie so that she can help him, whether she wants to or not.
My Thoughts: I thought it was interesting the whole you aren't what you are but you are what you can't accept formula. It made it interesting to watch Kyle and Jackie together as each of them have their own agendas and emotional stances in the relationship.
The Vampire's Curse is well written but I do wish we'd gotten a better more developed exploration of their personal feelings as well as the back story which took a slight back seat to the involvement of our h/h but it was a great read and I liked it. Look forward to reading more installments from this series.

Skimmed this one as I read in another review the fact that H slept with h's sister. Usually that's a hard no for me but I think I was in the mood to see if the author could pull it off.....and I'm gonna go with nope!
It wasn't so much the fact that he was involved with the h's narcissistic bitchy model sister and quite recently (5 months or so), what irked me was the most was that he loved her sister (or felt he did...meh same thing!) and didn't feel that the h deserved to know the whole story because she was nothing to him...as in not dating and not sleeping together, etc. ***insert massive eye roll here***
The whole scene at the end in the sister's hotel room felt wrong like there was left over feelings and he lied to his 'soul mate' about where he was going even though she knew the difference....Meanwhile I felt very bad for Mike and I think I will continue with the series just to see him get his HEA (or even HFN)

I thought that Jackie, the female lead character was annoying and childish and remained like that until the end of the book, so I was frustrated with her all the way through. I liked Kyle, the male lead, but kept thinking about what did he see in Jackie... she is not half the woman he deserved. She did not grow as a character in the book, did not value friendship and right to the end could not stand up for herself and stop the family abuse or grow as a witch. Basically not a book for me. I hope the next book in the series is better.
I loved this story, I was a little skeptical in the beginning but I quickly feel in love with the characters and couldn't get enough of them. This was my first time reading anything written by Mandy Rosko and I am very impressed, I did look into reading the next two books, but I am not a huge fan of changing story lines and character from one book to the next, but I might just give it a shot.
Jackie isn’t your average witch. She may look like it but don’t ask her to cast a spell unless you want something to blow up. If you need healing, it’s just a kiss away. Kyle isn’t your normal vampire. By night, he’s a vamp, by day, a human. He wasn’t born this way, he was cursed. A chance encounter, a quick kiss and Kyle finds he’s human again. It’s only temporary and Kyle wants something permanent and Jackie is going to help him find it, but first, they need to find out what is killing feral vampires.
Welcome to Griffon City…that is, if you can find it.
I found The Vampire's curse to be quite a fun story to read full of interesting characters and enough surprising plot twist to keep me riveted and entertained from beginning to end. Let's start with the characters. With Jackie being a witch unable to perform a spell correctly I expected, and was not disappointed, to find this book somewhat comical. Not the slapstick type but more of the giggle out loud style. Not sure if that was the author’s intent but the fun characters and they odd antics sure had me smiling at times. Jackie was an easy one to love. I found her somewhat of a underdog yet quirky and a fun character to follow. I really didn’t care for Kyle in the beginning. Frankly, I found him somewhat uninteresting. I think it was right around midway through I realized there’s a bit of a mystery and whodunit to solve. It wasn’t until then his unusual situation, IE his curse, sparked my interest. Despite Jackie’s method of healing, there is very little sexual heat to be found although it’s very easy to see the growing attraction between Jackie and Kyle. Instead, we are graced with a story that is allowed to stand on its own without smothering the reading in what could have obviously been one giant tacky cliché. In case you missed it, she heals by kissing.
This is my first book by author Mandy Rosko, I find her writing style, at least in this book, very entertaining. My interest has been perked and I plan to continue on with her writing as well as this series. The Vampire's Curse is a very good start to Things in the Night series and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading paranormal romances.
I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.
Jackie is a witch with little apparent talent, except for the ability to heal with a kiss! One night after work, she heard noise in an alley and saw the body of a feral vampire hurled into the snow. Even more of them were attacking what looked like a “normal” vampire who was defending an unconscious woman. When garlic spray chased off the feral vampires, the “normal” one shoved her against the wall. He seemed to be turning feral with rows of teeth and black eyes. So Jackie kissed him!!! And his changes reversed. Then she ran back to her apartment in fear and called her cop friend Mike Carter.
Kyle McKane is a human cursed by a witch named Sarah to become a vampire at night and human in the daytime. After Jackie had kissed him in the alley, he had changed back to human and was amazed that he was apparently cured. After she ran, he found her wallet in the alley and planned on giving her roses in gratitude. But then, the next afternoon in his motel room, he started to change back to a vampire. So he tracked down Jackie for help.
This is a cute story with very likeable characters. I liked the humor and found myself chuckling out loud at some of the antics. I highly recommend this book. It was well worth the read.
This book was so much better than the prequel, The Dragon and the Wolf. I am very happy I didn't let that book deter me from continuing the Things in the Night series. This romance features Jackie (a witch) and Kyle (a vampire by night). Jackie is the only one able to tame the beast Kyle becomes come nightfall. It was an enjoyable story line that kept me hooked. Mandy Rosko even managed to throw a surprise or two my way. I loved the amount of detail she gave in describing the vampires, very descriptive without going overboard. The book has one sex scene, which is not very explicit, and a little bit of violence, which was also not too explicit. This is a HEA book with no cliffhanger. I am definitely interested in continuing this series!
Jackie Moore is just closing up Pattie's Potions the shop she runs with her mother, when the local news station warns there are feral vampires on the loose. On the way home she gets to find that out it's the truth. Kyle McKane is in Griffin City looking for the witch who turned him into a vampire. He is trying hard to keep himself under control, but it gets harder every night. Fights with monsters doesn't help. This is the first in a series. It looks like one that I will get addicted to. The characters are lots of fun. Our hero in this one has been thrown into a world he knew nothing about but copes really well even keeping a great sense of humour. Our heroine has a few issues with self confidence. She only has limited magical abilities. She can however sometimes kiss it better. A real fun read. I am reading the next book in the series right away.
Jackie a witch and Kyle (turned into a vampire by a witch's spell). I love supernatural stories of all kinds. this was the first book I have read by Mandy and I really loved it. getting to know the characters and their city was perfect, right from the start I was captivated. Jackie being able to give Kyle a reprieve from being a vampire with only a kiss even if it wore off. trying to find a cure and the witch who did it and they still fell in love when they find out who the witch was, perfect. this is definitely worth a read and I loved how Jackie started off thinking her magic was no good to realizing that even if she blew things up all the time it was still worth having. :-)
The Vampire's Curse is a new way to look at becoming a vampire and a way to assuage the last for blood at least for 1 night !! Kyle has become a vampire through no true fault of his own, I'll let you see how when you read the book. Jackie us a witch that doesn't have much power ( she thinks) but one thing she does have is the power to heal, and with one kiss Kyle thinks he's found a cure, but is it a true cure or just another dead end ? Mandy Rosko has written a sexy vampire story for the 21st century and it's not your Mother's Dracula re-write !! It's a totally new take on the vampire mythos and how they can be created and possibly cured. 5
Mandy Rosko has a way of writing a story that completely draws me in. The Vampire’s Curse had great characters, action, mystery, and romance; it checked off every box I have for a great read. Kyle’s character was absolutely alpha, but also caring and protective, and an overall great guy. Jackie is very relatable, but also strong and intelligent in her own right. As Kyle and Jackie’s pull towards each other intensified, so did the action, and I really did not want to put the book down at all. I think TVC is an excellent start to what I hope is an overall excellent series.

A very intriguing and interesting book to read and I really enjoyed reading it. The story covers Jackie Moore a not so average witch, who is more inclined to blow up things with her spells but her kisses are something else. Kyle McCane tries to take a bite out of her but Jackie kisses him instead and flees. What you will find in this story is drama, intrigue, magic, a few twists, a witch, a feral vampire, a vampire, a kiss, human for one night, reverting back to vampire, desperation for a cure, emotional feelings and growing attractions. I found this book to be highly entertaining and would recommend it.
I liked the story, the writing, the characters and the city they were living in. I'm not going to tell what the story was about; read the synopsis and that should be clear.
Mandy created a whole new world inside a little town. The usual vampire rules are a bit different but that is OK. Not every vampire world has to be the same. So I can say I liked the book a lot but there are some things I did not like. Like her mother and sister... I still have questions about them, a lot. I don't like when there are still open gaps about the people close to the main character. The next book is about her old friend so it's not like the answers will be given in that book.
Good read ! An action packed murder mystery Set in a secret city not on any map, a place run by Witches, Wolves, Vampires.
Kyle has been cursed, he follows a lead to try to find the Witch that cursed him, bringing him directly into Jackie's life. The moment they meet is complexed, in an alley standing over a victim of a Feral Vampire attack. Kyle is a suspect in a murder but she feels an urge to kiss him - he becomes human, could she be the cure for his curse... He wonders as he flees from the scene.

A most unique vampire story in a most unique city. It is a shifter mystery, suspense and love story all mixed together. It also shows how all people should be accepted for themselves - not hated for being different - and that we can all get along with, and love, each other. Bigotry and hatred will destroy you every time.

The Vampire's Curse is the first book I've read by this author. I thought it was really good. It takes place in a town that is custom made for the paranormal. It can't be found on a map or internet search by humans. That was an interesting concept. Despite the attraction they fought, I liked Kyle and Jackie together. This story had a mystery within the plot and a twist towards the end. I would definitely read book two. *I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.*
This was a fun little romantic romp in a rather unique paranormal setting. I liked the twists and the vampire take, and the strange and dysfunctional family dynamics touched upon. A city for paranormals and magic, and all the intrigue that went on made for a book I had to just read from start to finish. And how Kyle became a 'vampire', that was different, and added to the fun! Looking forward to the next one, the little teaser included has got me curious.
Being a lover of paranormal and new authors this was a great start to a series. I enjoyed the plot and the character development, the suspense was good, the story line held your attention. I hidden city was a great idea. I really enjoyed the differences in the story, a witch that her powers are not right a vampire that's only part there of, and all the normal family drama's. I'll definitely be looking for more books from Ms Rosko.
Just to make sure I say it and get it out of the way I received a free copy of this book to give an honest review blah blah blah... (it's not like the price of the book is going to change my feels on it.) I loved this book. It has an entirely different take on the paranormal world meeting the everyday world. From the beginning to the end the entire story was amazing. Mandy has an amazing take on the paranormal and I can't wait to find out more of this version of her world.
Great start to a series. I love how there is vampires, witches and werewolves but it is still not known they exist. Instead there is a special town that can't be found by anyone but them. Having a soul mate is what really pulls the romance together in the book. The scenes get a little hot but nothing steamy. Will get reading my on the second book ASAP.
I received this book free from the author to read and leave an honest review. Jackie is a witch and a healer, but can't cast a spell correctly at all! Kyle is a human who was cursed to be a vampire by night, but a human by day. This book was a fun read and I had quite a few smiles on my face. There is also a nice bit of romance in the story. This was a well-written fun read. Very enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading more about these two. I definitely recommend this book.
The story moves along quickly and has action, mystery, suspense, romance, and supernatural beings. I love to read vampire romance and this story had some unique elements that I found interesting. The story kept you guessing until the end. This is the first story I have read by this author and I hope to read more of her work!
