Jac MaCall is the eldest daughter of a wealthy and brilliant security consultant. She, however, has chosen a different life for herself, running a new age store that specializes in selling crystals, candles, and aromatherapy that enable people to tap into their subconscious awareness. But when Dr. Will Archer’s office is vandalized by a dangerous organization threatening his life, fate sends Jac in as a consultant for her father’s business to update his security and provide additional protection.
The old adage about opposites attracting proves true the moment he opens his door and finds the exotic beauty standing in her yoga pants while lecturing him on his security system and asking questions better left to the police. In time, Will and Jac learn that a prophecy involving the firstborn child of Will Archer has an extremist militant group fearful enough that they will not stop until Will and his unborn child are destroyed. When Jac gets a vision of her own future with the uptight and irresistible Dr. Archer, it becomes evident to everyone involved that she will play a bigger role in this prophecy than anyone had imagined.
And while her premonitions help her keep him alive, even she cannot foresee that their passion for each other will endanger them both.
In college, my roommate and I used to read a number of romance books and joke about writing a more feminist-friendly version with a dude in distress and a heroine who must rescue him repeatedly while he struggles to capture her attention and secure her love. Years later, I transitioned from writing young adult books to writing romance. And by the time I discovered self-publishing (cue angels singing), my romance books had taken on a touch of this girl power tone. Readers will find that my protagonists are strong, intelligent, and capable women who fall in love with equally strong, intelligent, and capable men. And often, it's the women who get to do the rescuing...just because that's the way it should be.
Jac is kinda a sassy-hippy, that has premonitions. She is asked to help out her family with a security consulting of a very sexy psychiatrist. Someone is trying to kill him and she takes it upon herself to find out why. When she gets a premonition, she discovers that his firstborn will change the world causing a militant group into action... they don't want the future the Archer firstborn creates.
It was a good read. It could have been really good if the POV was written in a first person. I just prefer that writing style.
The characters were good, there was a kinda instant love but it didn't feel too rushed.
3.5 Stars. An above average, contemporary, mystery/romance for Adult/New Adult. Shades of conspiracy theories echo throughout and it contains a little psychic kick.
