Bruce Wayne is angry --his world has been ruled from the shadows for too long. Planetary is in charge. Four people who've hoarded technology, shared only what was profitable, and killed whenever it made their lives easier or served to amuse them. Aided by Clark Kent and Diana Prince, Wayne will attempt to take down the shadowy figures who rule the world --or die trying. But Jakita Wagner, Ambrose Chase, the Drummer and Elijah Snow will not go quietly into the night.

This was a pretty good Elseworlds title that had an unexpected ending. I liked this world's JLA incarnation, and the nods to traditional JLA'ers that were not a part of the story. Short but good.
An interesting Alternate earth where DC's 'big three' are now plain clothes mystery men fighting secretly the secret group that now rules the world. Lots of cameos and 'spot the reference' moments and I love the idea of Clark, Bruce and Diana saving the world this way, but Warren's take on his Planetary characters as dictators feels really weak and forced and the grand finale starts out strong, but quickly gets very rushed and slapped together.
This story needed more room to be told right. As a mini series this might have become one of the greats, as a one shot, it comes across as good ideas that come together to make a 'just okay' story.
Also a great example of the fact that Warren can write good, solid super hero stories when he relaxes and loses his "I'm a cynical bastard' persona.
How is this written by Ellis? The language doesn't feel anything like any of the rest of Planetary, so I assumed it was some other writer... but it's not?
Planetary has turned into autocratic a-holes. It's almost like I'm reading something else, a regular old good-vs-bad story. I understand that power corrupts, but this story is just not fun. I find myself rooting for the three who oppose them and I barely like them.
The Planetary Organization has been providing humanity with a score of technological advances to improve life in general. But not everyone sees them as heroes. Bruce, Diana and Clark have proof of Planetary experimenting on other superheroes to copy their powers, proof of atrocities and murders. The three intend to bring the organization down.
It's a pleasure to read another Jerry Ordway story, and I'm a big fan of Planetary. This is the worse story about Planetary Warren Ellis wrote, but I supose that's because it's an Elseworlds story, not another chapter of the real Planetary drama.
Good to read, not very impressive... and another book of Ordway. Not bad.
Wow. And that was great. And that's what happens when you start by caring about the characters. This showed the Planetary folks as who they are - bad guys. Good use of characters. But it also shows the power on both sides. And of course since Planetary has been knocking off DC (and really everything else) from the beginning, this fits right in. 4.5 of 5.
Not my fave out of the Planetaries I've read, so far. I do like the twist of having Planetary be the bad guys. I had to go back and re-read parts because it seemed like there was a skip in the story that didn't make sense.
"Planetary :JLA Terra Occulta" is a fast paced novella that pits "Elseworld" style versions of the two eponymous super teams against each other in a battle for the control of the world. Expect strong back stories, an examination of the effects of ultimate power, well constructed alternates of well known characters, visual "Easter eggs" and a hard to predict plot.
Kruté a netradičné.
Sebagai fan Batman, tentu senang karena Bruce Wayne tetap bisa mengalahkan musuh tanpa membunuh (urusan membunuh dilakukan Wonder Woman), tapi what the hell happened to Clark Kent?!!!
Whole story of Planetary is now turned around, and now they are the bad guys, Because JLA must be god guys... Can't believe it was written by Ellis, feels more like he was forced to do it by DC. Wery cheap and waste of time.
Got this from Paperback Swap because I enjoyed Planetary. Very different, even from the Batman crossover which was at least semi-canon. It's also been a while since I read Planetary. Honestly, I think this is probably more for fans of the trinity, since they're more the main characters here (calling it JLA is...a definite stretch).
If you're a huge Warren Ellis fan, pick it up, it's a fun little Elseworlds tale. If you love JLA or Planetary specifically, eh, you can take it or leave it.
