More than one average reader ever cared to learn about furniture. This book is well-written and detailed, offering (great) advice for someone who REALLY wants to consider proportions, materials, and the mathematics of desks, tables, and chairs. Marking it as a one to remind myself that this is not what I anticipated.

The first 120 pages was 5 stars. Four stars is the average of the whole book because I found the information in the latter half of the book a little less important. However, I do love the purely educational way this was laid out. I find lots of interior design books filled with lots of fluff and story telling, but I wanted a textbook. I wanted just facts and pure information. Thus far, my top recommendation for interior design. My goal here was to not waste money on bad furniture when I finally start buying some of my own, and I now feel properly prepared to do so.

After reading this, one will never again sit on a chair without subconsciously evaluating its features, such as the angles of the seat and back, the positioning of the legs, the length of the seat, the height etc. Such detailed information also provided for all kinds of furniture items, very useful when planning a new home or a complete refurbishment.

This book is extremely technical and has a very heavy focus on Swedish furniture. It should be called “The Swedish Furniture Textbook” instead of the “Furniture Handbook.”
