This beautifully illustrated, well-researched book fills in the gaps in the Emancipation Proclamation story by showing us the people, the documents, the scenes and incidents that built the movement that drove the country to war and President Abraham Lincoln to develop the Proclamation that would make enslaved African Americans "forever free." Additionally, this great book places the fight for Emancipation in the context of the continuing struggle for social and racial justice. A great gift.
