This book is a romance with twists and turns I didn't anticipate but that give it such depth and sweetness. Part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, and it's a book I will think about for a long time. From the first book in the Imposters, I knew there was a deep pain between Gemma and Graham, but the source goes so much deeper than I had anticipated. The author deals with the grief and challenges with such a deft hand that gives such grace and emotion to it without turning the book maudlin. Instead, it's a story that left me rooting so hard for the romance. At the same time there is a multi-layered mystery that borders on suspense that was so well woven. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this novel. It truly promises a HEA after taking the hero and heroine through a wilderness.

A missing child!
Interestingly I’d been thinking about the previous book in this series not so long ago. Then this title popped up.
What was it that stayed with me?
The background that had Imposters Inc. birthed perhaps?
Belonging to the top echelons of Edwardian English society, Lady Marigold and her brother Lord Yates, Earl of Fairfax, upon their father’s death find that he had spent all their funds and more on the joyous thrills he had surrounded himself, and them with.
To finance the menagerie at The Towers they begin an investigative agency, very exclusive, called The Imposters Ltd.
One has to be prepared for the overt faith perspective underlying this tale. Themes of forgiveness, love, integrity and anger feature strongly.
Lady Marigold marries Sir Merritt Livingston. Their honeymoon over, work now beckons. Thankfully Merritt has no objections to joining the Imposters in their mission.
The group have been called on to solve the problem of a missing child who was kidnapped from the train near Ludgrove. Only the wrong child was taken. Not Lord Wilfrid’s son Horace, but his poorer cousin Sidney. The boys are very similar in looks and are often mistaken for each other. Being boys they’re not adverse to playing pranks. This time their mischief has gone awry. A ransom note for eighty thousand dollars has been received. Lord Wilfred refuses to pay. After all it’s not his son in trouble! Sidney’s parents, the Harts, are desperate and ask for help from the Imposters.
Whilst the search is going on Gemma and her husband Graham Wharton, an architect, have been estranged since their son Jamie was killed in a car accident whilst Graham was driving. A journey Gemma had begged him not to take. Graham is angry with God. Gemma refuses to forgive Graham Jamie’s death. Now they must put their differences aside to help with the investigation.
A complicated plot, and problems within the group, has the Imposters well and truly testing their investigative powers.

A Noble Scheme is, in my opinion, one of Roseanna M. White’s best & most heartfelt novels to date. The immediately-engaging writing voice, the richly woven layers, the meaningful faith discussions, and the embraceable characters – as well as the Imposters’ high-stakes case of child kidnapping – kept me completely engrossed from beginning to end.
Graham is a tragic character in many ways, at least as our story moves toward its redemptive ending. I was already drawn to him from our first meeting but I fell completely for him as the author peels back the veil on his heartbreak, his very relatable faith struggles, and his loyal heart. As for Gemma, she grew on me a lot in A Noble Scheme, especially as I began to learn more about what she’s been through and could see more of the winsome personality that explains why she and Marigold are such dear friends. Because while I liked her relationship with Marigold in A Beautiful Disguise, I couldn’t understand her harsh rudeness toward Graham. One thing I did know was that Graham and Gemma had a history and that the deep rift between them carried with it an even deeper pain. But I would have never guessed just what that history entailed, and I was unprepared for how powerful and emotional and achingly beautiful the ‘rest of their story’ would be. White doesn’t shy away from their pain or negate its validity. Instead, she wraps it up with heaping doses of grace, mercy, understanding, and a glimpse into the heart of God.
Bottom Line: A Noble Scheme by Roseanna M. White is compelling and poignant, immersing you right away in a story that will grab hold of your heart and not let go. Fair warning, your emotions will be put through the wringer as White tenderly explores the rawness of grief and loss, broken relationships, and anger at God and knits it all together into a beautiful hope-filled, grace-filled masterpiece. But she also gives her readers breathing space by skillfully placing moments of humor (particularly when Yates is involved) and intrigue, not to mention the swoony romance that simmers to perfection. I loved that we got so much great page time with Marigold, Yates, and Merritt too, and I am positively giddy for Yates’ story next! (Don’t tell the others but I think he’s my favorite lol)

I think this may be my favorite book of Roseanna's. I say that about every book of hers though so I'm not too sure. This book was special though, it has so much I really liked about it.
This is the second book in the Imposters series.
Though the book may have started out slowly, it didn't stay that was for long.
As a carry-over from the first book in the series we see many of the same characters that we know and love. Though this is the second book in a series, it may be read as a standalone having its own full story.
I started out the book not liking Gemma, she can be downright rude to Graham Wharton at times. She broke his heart. Through the many ups and downs, twists and turns the story unfolds for us. There is a lot going on and the book pulls out all the stops as your heart feels so many emotions. One thing about the Imposters though is when they take on a case you know they won't back down until the case is solved. I can see why Gemma acted the way she did, the reveal surprised me. None of us know how we'll act unless presented a situation such as this. The faith element was beautiful!
The book really has a lot to absorb as you read it. Such beautiful healing and forgiveness.

A Noble Scheme was such an engaging read plot-wise and deeply moving theme-wise. I loved reading Gemma and Graham’s story, and honestly, it made me the most invested in this book—even over the plot.
Chapter 13 brought this book from a 4 to 5 star read for me. It hit so deep, and the author did such an amazing job of immersing the reader that they felt as if they were in the story themselves, feeling and enduring everything the characters were. 😭🤍
As far as the themes go—if you relate with books that explore family loss, wrestling with forgiveness and healing, and finding redemption and hope, then you’ll love this book.
All in all, such a good read!

“Words were wily things-but they were miraculous too.”
What a poignant, achingly tender second chance love story. Warning, have the tissues handy because this book will make you cry. It’s hard to put into words how much A Noble Scheme touched my heart. It has to be one of my favorite Roseanna M. White books and is a powerful story of loss, grief, forgiveness, and suspense.
After reading the first book in the series, I was intrigued by what caused the rift between Gemma and Graham. The shocking truth behind their estrangement is revealed about half way through. It was a stunning revelation, but one that had been building throughout. Suddenly, Gemma’s hatred and Graham’s lost faith in God made sense. It’s a touching story with such deep, profound emotions as two people find their way back to each other. But, there’s also a mystery to be solved, and the Imposters are on the case to find a little boy who’s been kidnapped. It’s a race against time to try to find him before it’s too late.
I loved the careful balance between the sacred emotions of grief and loss with the lighthearted, good humor provided by Yates. I’ve grown to love these characters and this book cemented those feelings even more. I especially loved the way the author captured so many emotions in such a tender way with several characters who experience loss, particularly the loss of a child.
With her characteristic wit, and soul deep characters, Ms. White shares an unforgettable story that’ll stay with me for a long time. It’s definitely a must read for historical romance fans, especially if you enjoy stories with emotional depth, mystery, faith, romance, and a touch of humor. Though part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, however, it’s much more enjoyable if you’ve read the first book in the series. Now I can’t wait for Yates’ story! This instalment follows Gemma and Graham, two side characters from the first book, who are now working together as part of a secret investigative team called "the Imposters." Gemma, known as G.M. Parker, writes a column about fashionable society as her cover, while Graham utilises his architectural skills to aid their investigations. The central mystery involves a kidnapped boy and a ransom plot complicated by the fact that the victim's cousin, from a less wealthy family, switched places with him prior to the kidnapping.
I was hooked by the compelling mystery, but what really captivated me was the book's exploration of complex emotions like grief, anger, and forgiveness, especially in the context of faith and suffering.
The story is beautifully written, and White doesn't shy away from difficult topics. The emotional passages are particularly powerful, moving me to tears on several occasions. I found the Christian allegory woven into the narrative to be incredibly impactful. This multifaceted story combines a thrilling mystery with profound emotional and spiritual depth. It might even be my favourite book of the year!

Since this was book two in a series I didn’t read the summary and found this book much heavier than I expected. Not a bad thing, but a thing to note to be prepared to read the trigger warnings first.
Once the plot started to unfold my heart started to hurt. The second chance romance between Graham and Gemma was fought for. The resilient nature of both of them to stubbornly hold on to things and watching those walls crumble was beautiful. I loved how faith was worked into this story and the meaningful moments that were given to these characters to find a way back home.
The mystery was good, I enjoyed the themes throughout the book and how the story was uncovered. I think the Imposters group is a great little found family and I like seeing them work together to solve the crimes before them while supporting each other through their trials.
I’m very much looking forward to Yates book!

“Joy was meant to be shared. When it was closed up within him, it might as well not exist at all.”
Confession - I cried through most of this book. I love Roseanna M White’s books and have laughed, cried, and loved with all the characters I’ve had the privilege to know. But never have I cried so much through her books. This book will grab your heart from the start and break it one piece at a time as you delve into the depths of Graham’s despair and Gemma’s hatred. I knew something big was at the foundation of their broken relationship but, wow, the details floored me. Yet, wrenching heartbreak and overwhelming grief are not all there is. The beauty of forgiveness and the awesome mystery of faith and reconciliation eclipse the pain and regret to offer a future based on hope and not crippled by the past.
And, of course, there are The Imposters, Ltd. The harrowing journey the group takes to recover a kidnapped child is action-packed and filled with twists and turns (sometimes literally). I thoroughly enjoyed watching them work as a team and loved seeing Merritt take part in their covert operations. And Yates definitely added some fun banter and levity to the narrative. I can’t wait to read Yates’ story next!

A Noble Scheme is the second book in the Imposters series by Roseanna M. White. In this book we are following Gemma and Graham as they struggle through loss, faith and a new detective case.
I loved learning more about why Gemma and Graham had split up. A tragic story. I loved the mystery aspect especially. I'm always intrigued by spy missions and fake personnas. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. (3.5⭐)

#BookReview : A NOBLE SCHEME by Roseanna M. White
I was really looking forward to reading this book and it didn't disappoint. I think the book was well paced. Marigold and Sir Merritt just came back from their honeymoon.
Everyone is different in handling their grief and this book explored that more. I cried with Gemma and Graham. Gemma’s pain was so big that she chose to be angry.
I enjoyed it even more than the first book, perhaps because it resonated with me on a deeper emotional level. There was also more depth in their journey of faith with messages of love and forgiveness.
The mystery that really tested the Imposters capability was intriguing as well. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Rating 4.5
Graham had given up on insisting he wasn’t having a crisis of faith. Given up trying to explain that it wasn’t that he doubted God’s existence—it was that he doubted His goodness. It wasn’t that He questioned for a minute whether or not He was Lord—it was that he couldn’t believe the Lord loved them like James insisted He did. All evidence pointed to the contrary.
Roseanna M White always delivers unique plots with equally enjoyable unique characters.
This book was different for me to the author’s previous stories. There was still the same unique and fun mystery to solve and the intriguing banter between characters, but there was this deep emotional history between Graham and Gemma.
From book one, it was clear that there was a past between Graham and Gemma, and through the first part of the book, the author gave the reader a bit more information and clues, but I found myself impatient to see what happened and once revealed it was the last thing I expected.
The author did a brilliant job of making the reader feel Graham’s hopelessness, and Gemma’s hatred and struggle with unforgiveness.
Be prepared to be swept away on an emotional journey and keep the tissues handy.
Yates was a fun character to learn more about and I am looking forward to his story coming soon.

This was a beautiful story of complete surrender, forgiveness and second chances. This is book 2 in The Imposters series. While the story itself could stand alone, I would recommend reading this series in order if possible as the Imposters as a whole were introduced in book 1. You wouldn't feel lost without book 1, but if you've read both books, you have a fuller picture of who the Imposters are. Those who have read book 1 will be familiar with the characters and this book gives insight into the conflict between Gemma and Graham, 2 of the members of this elite detective agency. At the end of book 1, all we know is that Gemma can't stand to be in the same room as Graham and that he is dissatisfied with that and wants a relationship with Gemma back. It is in this story that we find out why. When a young boy is kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity, both Gemma and Graham have the means to get to where he is expected to be held captive, and must set their differences aside to work together. It is only because a child's life is at stake that Gemma is willing. And Graham wants to use this opportunity to woo her back.
With the mystery surrounding the kidnapping and such, there is plenty of story here that kept me turning pages. But in the depths of the story was the character development. In seeing what had driven the 2 main characters apart, I was struck with empathy for both parties. With the emotional toll of the case and the rushed timeline to rescue a boy at risk, they can't afford to let the emotions of being stuck together create a distraction either. But because of all of these factors, both of our main characters come to a place of brokenness before Jesus and a beautiful tale of redemption is told. Tears flowed as I read these portions because of the beauty that comes from surrender and healing in Christ. The faith thread in this one is rock solid as both Gemma and Graham come to a point of full surrender to Christ and allow Him to bring His healing to their lives and their relationship as He was the only one who can. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters of Gemma and Graham and loved how they grew through the story. I loved their love story and hurt with them and cheered them on. I appreciated that the "villain" in this story wasn't particularly villainous as well. This book had all the feels. There were a few laughs, because that's who Roseanna M. White is, but there was definitely some heart-rending. Though this book dealt with some heavy subject matter (trigger warning - child death is a theme throughout), the book didn't feel overly heavy or oppressive and there was hope shining through, even at the end when it seemed hopeless for one particular character. This is a book that will tear your heart to shreds and then put it back together a little more whole. It's one I definitely recommend as well as the series as a whole.

This was such a wonderful book! I can't say enough about it. The second in The Imposters series, this book features Graham and Gemma as they struggle with a broken relationship. A new case for The Imposters involving a kidnapping, forces them to work together. Roseanna deftly weaves their story into the case, revealing pieces that keep the reader anxious for more, amidst ever evolving danger and suspense. Working against a life threatening deadline, the Imposters are at their best.
This novel will touch all of your emotions, delivering inspiration and hope out of grief and despair. I love how all of the Imposters worked together, using their individual strengths. Can't wait for the next one!

After reading the first book in this series, A Beautiful Disguise and really liking the unique elements that went into that story with the whole circus trapeze artist thing, along with the secret identity thing, and the investigations, I was looking forward to reading this one. I really wanted to know more about Gemma and Graham and why she hated him so much. I enjoyed that it wasn't the typical romance where they meet and fall in love. Instead this is a couple that were together with a long history and had broken up. I have to say that this book didn't go exactly as I expected, but it wasn't in a bad way. If anything, I liked it even more because of that. I loved peeling the layers off Gemma and Graham and slowly getting to the heart of their relationship and what had happened to cause so much pain. Some of it I guessed ahead of time, but not all of it. This really is a book about forgiveness, not only of another person, but of ourselves, and at times this book had me in tears.

This is book two in The Imposters series and is a complete story as a stand-alone, but I suggest if you want the full aspect of who they are then read book one first. In book one we meet Gemma and Graham and I was anxious to find out why she was so rude and hostile at times to him. Circumstances have them spending time together as they work together to find a kidnapped boy. As the story unfolds there are many twists and turns until the reveal of what occurred and you will want to see healing take place. I absolutely loved this quote, “ She could choose to be nothing but a moth-eaten rag fit only for the rubbish bin….or she could let God work her into lace, the holes left by pain and sorrow every bit as beautiful as the gossamer threads of faith and love that held her together.” The entire paragraph is so beautifully written that it made me weep. My favorite quote ever I do believe. God can take the hurt and pain in our life and weave something even more beautiful than we ever imagined and we find that truth within this story. A beautiful tale of love between two hurt and vulnerable people while solving a case that keeps you guessing. From the beautiful cover to the last page you will be totally engrossed in this book. I found the characters relatable with real issues and the story believable and very well written.
I will be adding this to my favorite books this year.

This book broke my heart and put it back together again. It was not the most mind blowing story, it was not one that is a literary masterpiece, but its heart gripped me. I loved how White spun this second-chance romance, it’s full of redemption, forgiveness, and not letting grief define us, but God defining us through our pain. A beautiful, heart-breaking story.

Though I can't claim to have read all of Roseanna's books, I have read many of them and I think A Noble Scheme might be the most perfect book Roseanna has written. An absolutely beautiful story of grief and healing and love. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book 2 in the intriguing Imposters series takes a deeper turn as Graham and Gemma work on a case to find a missing child. We finally learn what caused the deep rift between them in this poignant story of loss and ultimately, forgiveness. Beautifully written, deeply moving.

A Noble Scheme is the second book in The Imposters' series and it was an amazing read! I reread A Beautiful Disguise (book one) before starting this one, so the characters were fresh in my mind...and I could hardly wait to find out more about Gemma and Graham's story!
A Noble Scheme grabbed my attention right away and I loved the characters so much. Getting little nuggets of Gemma and Graham's history in the beginning and THEN the big reveal was SO good. I did not guess it and loved the twist! The mystery was good, but also kind of sad...I really felt for everyone involved.
All in all, A Noble Scheme was a wonderful read and I recommend it...but definitely read book one first. I'm eagerly awaiting book three, as the sneak peek has me intrigued.

A beautiful cover and a beautiful story about grief, loss, forgiveness and love. This is the second book in the series with a new mystery for The Imposters to solve. It’s nearly Christmas and a child has been kidnapped. Marigold, Merritt, Gemma, Graham and Yates are all on hand for this case. This story has a heavier tone than the first, but is well written with characters and a story I won’t soon forget.

This was one of those books where I just didn't want to leave its world!! Right after I finished, I wanted to pick it up and start it all over again, just to remain there a little longer. An emotional read (maybe not always as lighthearted as some of White's others) with some truly spectacular plot twists and, as always, such compelling dialogue. Also I love the cover of this book! This is the second book in the Imposters series, and I highly recommend you read the first one, A Beautiful Disguise, before reading this one. Nearly all the characters get introduced in book 1, and a lot of the back story for this book is in there too.
A Noble Scheme is a deep, emotional book. It’s very well-written, but it deals with a lot of heavy themes – grief, forgiveness, trust, love, relationships between parents and children – and it’s not what you want to read if you’re in the mood for something light and frivolous. It’s also set mostly in the winter, so be prepared to feel cold :-)
White does a masterful job of weaving plot lines together with twists that keep the reader on the edge of the seat. I had a hard time putting the book down, wanting to know how all the various plot lines were going to get resolved. White has good insights into the issues she deals with. You may need to have some tissues handy for when you hit the really emotional scenes.

Heartbreaking. I cried. But I was also irritated with Gemma for being so angry and bitter at Graham. He may have been extremely angry with God, but he definitely had a more Christian attitude than she did.

I have been carried away to Edwardian England, and the tragedy that has taken hold of a couple with the loss of their infant son. This couple is also part of a group of private investigators who have been called upon to find another couple's ten year old son.
My grandma told me once that there's a fine line between love and hate. She was talking about a boy she knew, named Bud Moody, and how she had despised him. Funny that when those two grew up, they ended up having the baby who would eventually become my dad.
I bring that story up because A Noble Scheme made me think of my grandparents. Gemma loved Graham so much, and that love turned to hate. That fine line.

I do believe this surpassed the first novel in this series! The character's story arc was so incredibly beautiful. Beauty from the ashes of grief. And of course we get to follow each of the Imposters team members back into the action. Brilliant story telling, character development, and a fascinating nod to English architecture. Can't wait for Yate's story 😄

Marigold and Merritt are newly married and the whole team is adjusting to the changes, while Gemma and Graham must face the wedge that has grown between them while racing to save the life of a missing boy.
Gemma and Graham are the less flashy members of the team, gathering information in the details, I liked that they were forced to face each other and what happened. The author weaves a complex and satisfying tale, with strong themes of forgiveness and restoration of relationships, blended with a sense of urgency in this high stakes plot.
I also loved the glimpses of Yate's whimsy and heart, as he looks to the future of the Imposters.
Overall, this was everything I wanted from the next installment of this series, and more. Solid themes of faith, alongside daring adventure for a noble cause, romance, and more. Highly recommend!

This was not my favorite Roseanna White book. The pacing felt really off, so that we got a lot of information really early on, with plot twists thrown in randomly throughout. I normally devour her books, but this one took me over a week to finish because I just wasn't that invested in the plot.
Overall, I love the premise of the series (The Imposters team was delightful), so I will probably read the others, this one just fell flat.
