Luna Thorn #2

Perilous Potions

Rate this book
Luna Thorn sprang into being in the middle of the night in a downtown Detroit park years ago. She had no memory of her past and no idea what the future would hold for her. The only thing she possessed was magic…and the determination to win at all costs.
She’s finally about to get the answers she’s been looking for .
There are zombies popping up on Detroit’s mean inner city streets. They’re not normal zombies, however. They move fast and don’t go down under the usual methods. They have a mission, though, and the only thing that stops them is death.
Luna knows someone is controlling them, but who? She’s determined to find answers on her own, but the people who know her best and love her most refuse to let her fight this battle without backup.
Luna has been a loner for as long as she can remember, but her blood is running hot these days after joining with a phoenix, and news that she’s a traveler—a being that can jump through time—has her second-guessing every decision she’s ever made.
Detroit is about to be rocked by death and destruction. The question is, will Luna be the saint protecting it or the sinner bringing it down?
Things are about to change for everybody, and it’s impossible to know who will rise from the ashes.
The fight between good and evil, the past and the present, is on, and Luna will be right in the middle of it for better or worse.
The world is about to burn.

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

Back with Luna and the Grimlocks.

What I love most about this new series is that although the female lead is a Witch (maybe) fighting a supernatural enemy on the streets of Detroit we get to see a lot of the Grimlock family........ As we first met Luna in the Deaths Gate series which also heavily featured the Grimlocks as Izzy (that series female lead) got romantically involved.with the middle son Brandon. As we know where one of his family goes so do all especially their father Cormack. Anyway onto Luna, she arrived in Detroit about five years ago in a bit blaze of light with no memory of who she was or where she was from, she didn't know her name if how old she was. Luckily for her she was found by two street people who just so happened.to also be supernaturals, they took her under their wing and taught her everything she knows. Luna has since devoted herself to helping the city's homeless. Cormack, when he met Luna wanted to adopt her (he still does) but has to settle for feeding her and helping with her work. Luna helped Izzy and the Grimlocks defeat the enemy in the Deaths Gate series and is an accepted member of the family now, even if she's not exactly comfortable with the affection. This series sees Luna learning more about who she really is (not a witch) and there is an enemy that is determined to stop her from reaching her full potential. There's also Jessie, who is Griffin's new partner on the police force (Griffin is Aisling Grimlocks husband) and he just so happens to also be a supernatural, which makes it easier for Griffin as he doesn't have to hide anything from him. Jessie and Luna share a connection but what it is and if it's a good thing is still unknown.................... Always a fun read.

These are easy reads- I find that it takes me a while to transition from one series to the next- so I’m still kind of missing Izzy as the main character, same as when I moved from Aisling’s series- but book 2 is helping me move on. These are my bed time stories and not hard reads but fun!

just another in a long list of great books from this author! I love the crossovers and the many characters that pop up and make you care about them either good or bad. I look forward to each and every series release, and this one is no exception. I love the Grimlocks and their quirky group of "Family". Luna is just one more with her own group of people she looks after. Lily is also a trip!! lol I highly recommend this series.

I tried to like it

Lunar and across as a petulant "Teenager". She was an adult that constantly needed help but argued that she did not need or want help. Throughout both books, Luna argued and complained she didn't need anyone so everyone walked on eggshells around her. Have you ever met someone who was contraire about almost everything..... That would be Luna. They tried to make her a saint because she set up a communist commune to help homeless people and drug addicts. I like strong female characters, just not this one. I'm guessing she will come to accept that she is part of the reaper family in future books. I just didn't like her enough to keep reading.

Nefarious plans.

Loving Lunas story, especially as it heavily features my favourite characters the Grimlocks. The story continues, pitting Luna against the Gorgons and their nefarious plans. Luna being a traveler is a mystery, she has still to fully explore her powers and how they can be best understood and used in their fight.
The way her relationship is growing with Phoenix Jesse is adding a new dimension to her story, so looking forward to seeing how this power linking works for them. They are a powerful couple, I’m excited to see where we go with them, especially as he’s Gryphons partner.
Really enjoyed this book, another amazing series from Amanda

Three Stars is Generous

This author does know how to spin a story well, but she’s written in an MC that I just cannot like. I’m not sure why the whole Grimlock clan is so enamored with her as she is simply obnoxious. I would swear off the series, but I’m pretty sure there is going to be collision between Luna and the rest of the series’ heroines at some point. I’m pretty sure I’ll have to read this series to keep up.

entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an exceptionally entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. This series started out as the acing gridlock series then grew and expanded into the death gate series with a larger group of characters and a wider scope in their universe. It is now once again expanded and grown with more characters And a wider universe into the lunar Thor series. With each expansion the time jumps by a year or so and the characters grow and expand. This is one of the most action packed and entertaining series in the paranormal cozy mystery genre. Luna Thorne appeared for the most part out of nowhere one day and was taken in by some paranormal in Detroit. At a later date She met the characters from the defecate series including the Grimm locks and the gatekeeper. This is the third book in this series and once again Luna and all of her family including the groom walks and the people at the cathedral are fighting against evil trying to take over. Read and see if they can achieve their goals and beat back evil once again.

Unexpected Consequences

Winter is making harmless potions to make some money for projects at the Cathedral. But someone is playing games.

Creatures like zombies are attacking people in parks. Luna goes to investigat and runs afoul of the police.

Luna needs to up her game to prevent catastrophe. Jesse the Phoenix, the Grimlocks, and the people of the Cathedral need to be allowed to help.

Lots of twists, turns, and snarky dialog. Not to mention Lily Grimlock, who is too cute.

Fascinating new series

I am very much enjoying this new series about Luna and the Grimlocks. You never know what will happen. There has been a lot of great character development for some of the former side players that I love as well but no spoilers. I am so happy that Amanda Lee is keeping these plots so fresh and new. Seeing the world from Linda's point of view is fascinating. Highly recommend all of the Aisling Grimlock and Izzy (Reaper) books as well is you want the full picture.

Gorgon-zola!!

It stinks when you realise something fishy is going on right under your nose, and that's exactly what has happened at the Cathedral... there's been a breach of the wards, and the enemy is within...

Luna is also fighting her connection with Jesse, which seems to be allowing her to drain his powers even when they are not close. There's a definite undercurrent trying to break free, but the more the Grimlock family suggests it, the harder it is for Luna and Jesse to admit...

Excellent read!

I literally read this nonstop. This story had it all, intrigue, cozy mystery, a budding romance and lots of sarcasm. I love Luna's story involves the Grimlocks. It makes for a lot of laughing out loud moments. This story enlightened us to characters in Luna's world more. This was obviously an excellent read due my reading it in one setting.

Another brilliant book

I loved this story, another fantastic book from one of my favourite authors. I love this series about Luna because it keeps us in touch with the Grimlock family as well. Whenever I need a pick me up, I re-read another series and still enjoy them as much as the first time.

Potions

A convoluted, often confusing Amanda Lee story. Luna Thorn is discovered in a rather in a rather odd way, not knowing what she is. Teamed with somewhat belligerent Reapers the family Grimm. Especially Jesse who has some what of a crossover power going with her. Enjoyed it, just a bit confusing at times.

Perilous Potions

We get a better look at Luna and her ability. Joining forces with a handsome man is a benefit. Then there is Lily and her young smart mouth. Will have you shaking your head being glad she’s not your problem. Thank you Amanda for another excellent read. Till next time.

Magical fantasy

Luna knows she is a Traveler, but she has no idea what that means or what she can do. What she does know is that when she and Jesse worked together they made some sort of magical connection. She is worried. The Gorgons are still out there and now Detroit has some kind if weird zombies on the loose.

Simply superb! Who'd have thunk it! Amanda M Lee has such an imagination. This series is different from the others but I love that the Grimlock's are woven throughout and that Izzy plays such a big part in this story.

Very good.

I'm super enjoying the Luna Thorn books. Things seem to be moving at a decent pace, plus more development with each book.

I recommend this series. I would also say Angelina pimp/STD/whore jokes are getting a bit old.

If the author is trying to show that the MC is kickass she failed. Instead she came across as whiney and immature.
Whole time everyone kept telling her she is loved and how great she is and blah blah blah...it got boring in a hurry!

Ending is too fast, too abrupt with little explanation

Spend 4 pages describing a room you are passing through with nothing noteworthy taking place. Needs to flesh out main character much more, I feel no empathy or connection.
