Over a decade ago, I risked everything telling Hayes how I felt about him. But when he shut it down, I ran away and never looked back.
Until my mom calls and says she needs my help, forcing me to make my way back to Cane Creek, Montana. And Hayes Black’s annoying charm.
Hayes works his way back into my life, begging for a second chance at our friendship. It takes a lot of groveling, but I finally relent. After all, he was my best friend. Losing a love like that is tough.
I soon realize my feelings are still there, and he makes it clear that friendship isn’t all he wants from me either.
Our past is full of things we should’ve done better – secrets we kept and mistakes we made hang heavy over our heads.
Maybe this second chance wasn’t such a great idea after all.
Returning to her hometown after 10 years in Bozeman, River Larson is trying to navigate being in the same small town as her former best friend.
Hayes Black effed up and effed up royally. With River back, he’s determined to fix what he broke and forge a new path with the one who got away.
Rescue Ranch is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to visit. I love the whole Black family. I was a little annoyed with both River and Hayes at different points. But they got their shiz together and all is forgiven! I’m looking forward to Wells’ book and bring back on the ranch!!

4.25⭐️ I am an absolute sucker for a friends to lovers and a second chance romance. This delivered.
River. First of all, I love her country backroad technically boy name. I know that doesn’t make sense but I just love her name and I think it’s so fitting. And when he calls her Riv… too cute. I loved her though. I felt for her deeply and for her child self and everything that happened to her. Nothing ever happened for her except for the Black family.
Hayes was…everything. He was a cowboy, a country boy, a lonely boy, a sad boy. He lost so much. The only thing he was ever gonna have a chance at getting back was River. And man did he ever get her. Hayes we sweet and caring and understanding and so mature and honourable. I absolutely adored him.
I was ready for the grovelling and second chance and that friendship to come back. I got what I wanted. I love their friendship. I love them rekindling it and falling back into their ways but still treading water with each other and trying not to fall in love even though they were already hopelessly in love with each other. I mean c’mon, the way he just scooped her ass up from her date and made her his had me gasping. Absolutely loved it.
Adored all the Rhett & Poppy bits of course. This book wouldn’t have been complete without that. And Jo calling her mommy omfg I am dead. I died. Deceased. Rip. It was beautiful. And the way Poppy felt about it and talked about it. If I have one complaint it’s that I’d love to get some Rhett pov and feelings on that. Still adore the whole Black family and Betty was the sweetest thing, I loved watching her grow into herself and her confidence.
Overall I loved this so much and can’t wait to have it physically in my hands so I can annotate it all over again 😂
Thank you, Ivy Jackson, for an arc in exchange for an honest review. Don’t mind me being obsessed with you now 🫶🏼
“I missed her so much it was a physical ache in my bones.”
“I want you, River. Only you, forever you.”
“It’s just me and Hayes, holding on as we find each other all over again.”
• second chance • estranged best friends to lovers • cowboy romance • small town • loss & grief
I love me some cowboys. And I have been loving Rescue Ranch.
This second chance never quite had a first chance. River and Hayes were best friends.. and then they weren't. Not River is coming home for the first time in a long time. She doesn't really want to face why she left and she doesn't want Hayes getting all up in her space.
But it's hard to resist their history.. and her love for his family.. and that cowboy smirk and his dance moves.. so basically... she's screwed. But it was fun to see her try to resist and keep him in the friend zone.
I will say.. I don't completely understand his reaction to a certain secret.. it wasn't all on her shoulders to reach out or visit. Just saying. A road goes in both directions.
I really have been enjoying this series. I look forward to Roped coming soon.
Agh, I can't decide between 3 and 4 *. I'll go with 3.5 *.
It was an easy to read book, I liked the FMC. I wanted to hug her a few times.
I didn't quite like him a lot, hence the want to give the book 3*. I wanted more crawling and less stupid miscommunication and exaggerated and dramatic reactions. Seriously, get a grip man, she was also grieving (you need to read the book to understand the situation).
I actually loved the fact that even though he was a manho3, she did not wait for him! He was an as*, and him being 18 and stupid is not a good enough reason for behaving like that! Yay, she experienced and lived her life before reuniting! The book would have been better without the 3rd act, almost breakup / drama lama. I wanted to see more groveling (from his part, in my opinion she did nothing wrong!) and them growing as a couple.
Now, I seriously want to read Wells' book. Bring it on! (Hence, this is why I rounded to 4* ... The book made me enough curious to want to continue the series. Want to read the other two brothers' stories 👀)
Ps: The ARC file I received has such a nice cover, which is also on Amazon. Why isn't it yet on Goodreads!? Where's also the synopsis? (Thank you for the ARC! 🖤)
Pps2: Finally, the updates were made 🥰. Look at that cover 👀🖤.
This book is about Hayes and River, childhood best friends. But something happend between them. River moved to then city for college and stayed there after she gratuated, while Hayes stayed at his family farm. But River comes back to help her mother pay her bills, but because of their history Hayes and River aren’t talking to each other anymore. But Hayes cleared something up for himself: he wants River back. River is still full of hurt, because of their history. Could they ever be best friends again? Or more?
I really liked this story. It definetely has some tropes in it i love! Childhood friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, a little found family and ofc its a cowboy romance! Should i say more?
Spoiler⚠️ Still there was a moment that got me kinda mad. Thats why i didnt rate this 4 stars. Of course Hayes wanted River back, as more than friends this time. But Hayes was kind of a fuckboy when they were younger. So River tells him multiple times she doesnt want to be with him only for one night of only because of her body. But one night Hayes makes his mind up and decides to get her and tell her what he really feels for her and that they have to talk, but them she jumps in bed with him before they have ever really talked about how they feel??? I found it a little weird and made me kinda mad at River.
But other than that: loved this story, love the rescue ranch, a must read!! I even finished this in one day🩷🤠
- Small town - Second chance - Best friends to lovers - Found family
"I missed that, you know" "My stubbornness?" "Your smile."
This is the first book by Ivy Jackson that I've read, and I enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely read the first one in the series.
When River returns to town, Hayes sees an opportunity to win back the one who got away. But River won't make it easy for him.
This book has several moments that made me laugh out loud. If you enjoy cowboy romance with just the right amount of spice and plenty of fun moments, this book is for you. ( But please check the content warnings, as this book also tackles some heavy topics. ).
*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. *
TW - grief, discussion on animal cruelty (brief), death of a sibling (mentioned throughout), emotionally absent parent, death of a parent (past, drunk driver), sibling in and out of rehab, parent dealing with depression, alcohol
CW - spanking, public play, miscommunication / lack of communication
Tropes - jealousy, small town romance, second chance, cowboy romance, best friends to enemies to friends to lovers, found family
This was cute and spicy like everything we get from Ivy and Dana. I enjoyed this. I’m always skeptical where there’s this big secret between the MCs that led to them falling out and we’re kept out the loop; I always pray it’s not something dumb and instead, something that is actually worth it. In this scenario, it was fair. Both MCs hurt the other in different ways and they both had to work through it.
I enjoyed being back in Cane Creek following Burned, I really enjoy the dynamic between the Black family and how they so easily welcome everyone in.
I don’t think there was enough grovelling at all for a situation that led to a big blow up in their friendships and, for me, they took to each other again quite quickly, but I guess that’s down to their history and feelings for one another.
Poppy was an amazing friend in this book to both the MCs, I continue to love her character following her and Rhett's book.
The miscommunication / lack of communication is what pulled this down for me. In general, it’s a part of books that I hate but I do understand that it was part of the plot in this one. I personally just feel like 28yr olds shouldn’t have that much trouble talking to each other 🤷🏽♀️
I’m feeling skeptical about the next book because the sneak peak left me feeling 🥴🥴
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek
I received an arc and I am so glad! I have been waiting for this story since Rhett and Poppys book. I loved how everything went about and how Hayes and Rivers' story was told. I enjoyed how well they communicated through everything and how they understood each other. And let me just say. The spice with Hayes was not what i was expecting they were both so just ugh and i loved it. I'm so glad that little Betty got to go to her forever home with River and I can't wait to read more about these characters.
This book is living proof as to why I give a series two books before I completely knock it off my TBR list.
The first book in this series quite literally enraged me and I contemplated returning both books immediately because I didn't want to see Ivy Jackson ruin Hayes's character for me. However, she did the opposite and I wanted to binge this entire romance last night if it weren't for my need for sleep.
Untamed is book two in Jackson's Rescue Ranch series focusing on Hayes and River's story. Best friends since they were six Hayes and River were inseparable, until River confessed to 18-year-old playboy, Hayes, how much she loved him and he completely broke her heart and drove her out of Cane Creek, Montana. 10 years later River still hasn't stepped foot back in their small town until her mother needs her help. When she returns, Hayes is set on groveling just to have their friendship back, but she's determined to ignore him as much as possible.
I LOVED this!! The first book sucked, but this book delivered. It was a great romance book that had a genuine connection and it wasn't just a 300-page book of smut like the first book, Burned was. The smut was also tolerable and didn't make my whole body want to shrivel and die because of how much I cringed; A phenomenon I experienced during book one.
I am open to reading book three because I love Wells so much, but I have no idea when that is coming out considering the author is on hiatus.
Oh do I like Hayes. And my heart ached for River in the best way. This was such a well done second chance romance and completely scratched my cowboy romance itch.
I will say the conflict between them didn’t quite feel worth all the tension, but honestly everything else made up for it. I’m really loving this family dynamic and getting to learn more about everyone. Pops has my whole heart, and the found family these women are building with these men is just so special.
Untamed is a small town cowboy romance with fun tropes including former friends to lovers and second chance! The story follows River and Hayes, best friends who haven't seen each other since a big fight ten years prior. When River ends up visiting Hayes' family ranch to get to know the dog she's adopting, the two make a truce that they be friendly when she visits. Slowly, as they spend more time together, they become friends again. However, Hayes is determined to show River he is not the same man he used to be and he wants to explore the history between them.
This is a super cute and fast paced cowboy romance! I am in the thick of my yeehaw era and sometimes I just need something light and refreshing and that's exactly what Untamed is. River and Hayes were so adorable together, I loved how they reconnected and became friends again. The way Hayes was all about River and so dedicated to making her his, was so sweet. I will say there was a decent amount of miscommunication I could have gone without, however, it wasn't too bad with the apology Hayes delivered. I absolutely can't wait for the next book, I'm so excited for Wells to find his match and to see how the rest of the series goes!
~Many thanks to Ivy Jackson for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
“I was a lone wolf.” I howl to the sky “Untamed and unclaimed.” Untamed is book two in the Rescue Ranch series and focuses on Hayes and River. I finished this in one night, it was such a fun easy read! I loved getting to know Hayes more because in the first book it’s clear that working on the family ranch wasn’t his life dream so getting to know him better was great!
Hayes and River were childhood best friends, but when River professed her love to Hayes he shut her down which ultimately ended their friendship and chance at anything more. Now years later, River is back in town and Hayes is ready to be the man he knows River deserves so he is dedicated to proving it.
There were some minor miscommunications but once these two realized what was in front of them all the pieces fell into place. They were great and I can’t wait to find out what Wells is up to in the next book! Thank you @author.ivyjackson for the ARC! Release Date: September 22, 2023 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔥: “And then he begins to crawl. On his goddamn hands and knees, he crawls over to me, his eyes never leaving mine.”
Thank you, Ivy, for the ARC! I enjoyed this one even more than the first one. Super excited for Wells' book! 🤩
It felt so nice to be back at the Rescue Ranch and meet all the characters again! Loved this book more than the first one. This was such a heart-warming and fast paced cowboy romance.
We follow Hayes and River who were friends as kids but they had a big fight and haven't seen each other since. Although they have been apart for a decade Hayes is determinate to fix things with River and have his second chance.
I loved the banter between the characters and their chemistry. There was so many funny moments and also sad moments especially from River's point of view. Definitely wanted even more grovelling from Hayes because of his behaviour. Loved seeing Poppy back in her work! She is an amazing friend! ❤️
Let me start by saying Ivy Jackson nails it in the cowboy romance department!!
This book got me from the start. I love a good friends to lovers trope. She wrote the characters so well, and it gave me all the feels. Their relationship from the time they were 6 to now was highlighted and told so well. If you want an easy, good read with a happy ending! Just do yourself a favor and go hit buy now! Run don't walk!!
Cute story, and was a nice pallet cleanser between other books. The beginning of the book was a bit rough for me as I didn’t feel there was any backstory/insight into the characters. We don’t even find out that River has black hair until chapter 18, and by then I’m already picturing her as a brunette because my imagination filled in the blanks. It also felt like I was reading about 18 year olds, not 28 year olds with the character’s maturity levels.
River is back in hometown after being gone for years. And the last person she wants to see is her ex best friend Hayes, but that’s hard when it’s a small town.
This is a fun read in the rescue ranch series. River and Hayes have such a fun banter going on. And the nickname firefly 🥰 I am just in love.
The relationship between these two is amazing. You watch them before build and grow from their past relationships and issues that they need each other

🩷 Small Town Romances 🩷 Best friends to lovers 🩷 Second Chance Romance
I swear these Black boys 🥵 They're grumpy, they're dominating and I cannot get enough 🥵 Hayes and Rivers story had me hooked the whole time! 🪝 It's everything you'd want for a cowboy romance; skinny dipping, tussling under the stars and dancing in the bar. These boys just need their ladies to keep them in check ❤️
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
So this book follows Hayes and River from the first book. They were childhood best friends but had a massive falling out and haven't spoken in nearly a decade.
I'm going to be honest, I think I preferred the first book, Burned. I think that's down to the miscommunication/lack of communication between the two main characters. The book was written well and was a nice quick read. I loved that we got more character development from the side characters in this book, it added more to the story when all their lives and personalities are so entwined.
Can I just say I'm super excited for Wells' book? That little sneak peek at the end, good lord!
Hayes had me captured my heart with what he wants, he wants. The character development was good throughout. There was a good amount of spice for how the story flowed. However, it felt there was a lack of communication between the MCs, but it didn't keep me from wanting to finish it. This was a decently paced read. I look forward to the next book.
3.5 stars
- Small town - Second chance - Best friends to lovers - Found family - Dirty talk - He falls first
So this book is about Hayes and River, who were childhood best friends who had a huge falling out (I kinda would have liked a little flash back to that) and haven’t spoken in 12 years until River moves home to help her (dickhead!!) mother.
I liked that we had more character development in this book, and it’s nice to get more of the side characters personalities shining through and adding to the story!
The spice is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hayes crawling? Yes please!
My only downside to this book is it’s miscommunication/lack of communication trope which is my least favourite. But never the less! It’s well written and was a nice light read which was exactly what I was fancying when I got sent the ARC!
Minor triggers are: Neglectful parent Loss of a parent Talk of losing a sibling

4.5 ⭐️ HONESTLY def gotta be in my top small town cozy reads! I freaking ADORE THIS SERIES! Cowboys, small town, COWBOYS! YEEHAWW I couldn’t put this boom down I read straight through once I pick it up. CANT WAIT FOR MY NEXT FAV COWVOY WES 😍
𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬, 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐖/𝐓𝐖(𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳): MF/dual pov/HEA/second chance/friends to enemies(kinda) to lovers/cowboy romance/possessive/groveling/minimal public play/animal rescue
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰: Rescue Ranch book two. While each book follows a new couple, it is strongly recommend you read the books in order to avoid spoilery situations. This book will end with a HEA
𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: River and Hayes grew up together and River spent all her time on the Black’s ranch avoid her less than ideal home life. As teenagers, a big fight and hurtful words have them following different directions in life. Now, 10 years later, River is back in Montana and Hayes knows he can’t watch her walk away again. But how does he convince River he’s changed… some serious groveling. River was burned before by Hayes, so why does letting him again seem so easy. Even as that spark that never faded flames even brighter… theres still issues they need to work through.
This was a quick, cute and somewhat steamy second chance romance between River and Hayes. They were a super fun couple. I loved their uh… ‘adventures’ running in the woods and out mudding in the fourwheeler. As a southern girl myself… I’m so here for it! I love the chemistry and pull River and Hayes both held toward each other even after all their years apart. I don’t think myself or River were ready for Hayes dirty talk. 😏 And I loved River getting just as possesive over Hayes as he was over her. Dana Isaly writing as Ivy Jackson definitely brings us a lighter side to her romances. With me being a mainly dark romance reader, I can say this would be a great palate cleanser for the dark romance readers, or a great cute romance for someone looking to spice up their reading. And who doesn’t love a cowboy butt in some Wranglers. Yeehaww! 🍑🤭
Book 2 in the Rescue Ranch. I was so excited to visit these wonderful characters that I fell in love with in the 1st book 'Burned'. This was childhood friends to lovers and second chance. They both have a bad past from 10 years ago. So neither are friends anymore. Rivers had to move back to help her ungrateful mother financially. She is such a wonderful soul. Loving, caring and strong. Hayes, I have always had a thing for a guy that wears his cap backwards 😍. He has matured so much since they last together. Living in regret and guilt. He really wanted to make amends and claim Rivers as his. I loved how he didn't give up and kept going until her walls started crumbling. They were so wonderful and hot together. It was a slow burn but so worth it when they finally give in to their desire. Ivy writes the best intimate scenes ad she really makes you feel the heat when reading it. Also get yourself a man willing to crawl to you to ask for forgiveness. I literally screeched out of excitement. Hayes won me over 10 times when he did that. The way his family and her work friend helped them with the reunion. Hayes' parents are the best. I felt sad that Rivers didn't have that from her mother but at least Katherine made up for it all. And Betty, so cute. My heart soared with each improvement she made. Not to forget Rhett's two children. They are still such a delight and so innocent in what they say. Also I love the banter between the brothers, is so funny and warming. Now only thing left to say is, Will Rivers regret opening her heart once more to Hayes, specially with that secret? I'm loving this new genre Ivy Jackson is taking and I can't wait for Wells story!!!
Favourite Quotes :

River Larson hasn’t been back to Cane Creek, Montana in 12 years . Not since her very best friend Hayes Black, screamed such terrible things to her the night of their graduation that she packed up, left for the city life + never looked back . That is until her horrible mother calls and says she needs help . Out of obligation River goes back, knowing there will only be so long she can avoid Hayes . Especially when he is determined to make sure River knows how sorry he is + that this time around she won’t get away . That is unless the secrets of their past make things even worse this go around .
Hayes Black royally messed up 12 years ago . As a scared boy, not understanding his feelings or emotions, Hayes said things to his best friend that were so terrible it forced her to leave their small town without a second thought + stayed gone . But with River Larson back in town, there is nothing Hayes wouldn’t do to make sure she knows how sorry he is + for her to FINALLY accept his apology . But with so much time, space and secrets still stuck between the two of them, is there any room to start anew ?
Small town, second chance, friends to enemies to lovers, how cowboys + adorable doggies .. I mean what more could you ask for !!! Hayes + River are absolutely everything together ! There is only so much time and space can do, but the love these two have ALWAYS had for each other, even with years apart, is palpable . Clyde + Katherine are some of the best people and parents I have ever read in the book world - they deserve all of the peace, happiness and daughter-in-laws .
I am beyond excited to see where the Rescue Ranch takes us in book 3, Roped, after that first chapter teaser .. I mean faking dating a literal stranger - yes please !!
This book was given to me for honest review by author Ivy Jackson .
Holy crap.. this book 🥵 I was given a copy of this ARC by @author.ivyjackson in exchange for my honest review..

Thoughts:
Hayes Black is the definition of if he wants it, he will do whatever it takes to get it. I mean come on, the way he declared his love for River.. 😍😍 SWOONING.. where can I find one of him?! He is the reason the song “save a horse, ride a cowboy” came out.
River.. Oh sweet River. My heart broke for her. She had to deal with so much at such a young age. But very much as expected, Hayes and his family was there to help her through out it all.
This book is a master piece, but what isn’t that the author writes. Do yourself a favor and get this book. It was such a fast and easy book to read. I ate up every single page. However, Rhett is still probably my favorite.
This may just be my favorite cowboy romance book that I've read so far! Wow, I don't know what Ivy put in this book but I couldn't put it down.
Hayes & River have been best friends since they were 6. Since River's family life was pretty non-existent, she grew up with the Black's. The two of them did everything together, and know everything about each other. But when River tells Hayes that she's in love with him, everything changes. He doesn't reciprocate the feelings and when she goes off to college, she leaves him and everything she's ever known behind them.
Ten years later, River is back to help her mom come out from debt, only to be met with Hayes head on. After realizing that he doesn't want to live his life without her in it, he has his work cut out to prove himself - and his true feelings - to her.
Will these two finally put the past behind them and learn to move forward with each other? You'll have to read it to find out!!
Hayes was everything I could've wanted in a dirty talking cowboy and so much more! The way he learned so much about himself and what he wanted for his life, all while trying to prove to River how much he loved her was everything. The little things he did for her and his persistence was so freakin' cute. Plus, his mouth was so, so dirty....and I loved it so much.
I loved River and how she always knew what she wanted. I also love how she learned to stand up for herself to her mom and the realities that came with it. She seemed like such a cool girl and if she were a real person, I'd want to be friends with her (and Poppy!)
Thank you to Ivy Jackson for letting me ARC read this book - it was so good and I can't wait to read Wells's story next!
This book made me so happy! It's all the best things about a heartwarming, feel good, small town romance story. I loved Hayes and River so much. They had such an undeniable connection and I loved that they had so much history together. I also loved that we got to see more of Betty and her progress in rehabilitation. I think it's so important to show that these rescue dogs can get over their past and live fulfilling lives. It was also a good parallel for Hayes and River.
Hayes is so stinking adorable. Sure he did some stupid things but there is no way you could stay mad at that man! He was just the right amount of cocky but still being humble and compassionate. He made me smile throughout the story. I just loved him! Not to mention Firefly is one of the best nicknames ever! I swooned every time Hayes called her that.
River was a sweetheart in her own right. She was very empathetic and kind. Her dedication to Betty was admirable. I felt bad for her and what she had to go though. Those were the really emotional parts for me because I could feel them through her.
Katherine and Clyde are seriously two of the best people ever! They are so giving of their love and understanding nature. I love how they take care of everyone and don't ask for anything in return. I loved getting to see Poppy and Rhett again and learning a bit more about Wells.
This is seriously turning into one of my favorite series. I love these characters and the stories are so pure and passionate. They are very well written and entertaining. I couldn't put it down and honestly I didn't want to. I can't wait for Wells story! I would highly recommend this one!!
