Zomblog #5

Zomblog: Snoe's War

Rate this book
Snoe Gainey has spent her life trying to carve out her own identity in a post-apocalyptic world where her birth mother and father are two of the most infamous--if not notorious--individuals of the time.

Raised by her adoptive mothers, she has done all she can to find her way in an unforgiving world. The rise of a splinter faction that seeks to bring about a so-called New America, and led by an enemy from the past, has shattered everything that she knew and most everything that she thought she knew about herself.

Now, she seeks to free her friends and family from the clutches of a rising force that wants her to pay for the past sins of her birth mother. To fight back, she must embrace what she has steadfastly denied for most of her life.

Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest with my wife Denise, a Border Collie named Aoife, a guitar collection, and an increasing number of aquariums sporting a variety of fish (cichlids are my new favorites), I live for football season when I can cheer on the Oregon Ducks and be disappointed by my Seattle Seahawks once again. I am a fan of Cookie Monster, KISS, and Dr. Who (along with most things British).

As a person who always dreamed of writing as well as one completely enthralled by all things zombie, it is hard to believe that I never once considered writing in the genre. It is true. I wanted to be more “mainstream”. The first novel I actually wrote is titled Dakota (as Todd Brown). It is about a pair of DEA types tossed back in time to just prior to the start of the Civil War. They are in Charleston, South Carolina, and one of them is an African-American.

The zombie thing really started when I wrote a short for a college Creative Writing class. The teacher, Ms. Bose, pulled me up and told me I had an obvious love for the subject and a real talent for the style. I decided to give it a shot.

The first thing I cobbled together was Zomblog. I wrote it as a warm up for the project I had brewing in the back of my mind. It is a journal account of the apocalypse. The funny thing is that it was never intended to be published. A few things happened and it ended up being presented to me as a gift in book format by my wife for a Christmas present. There was something I will never forget about holding the copy of that book in my hand the first time.
Because it gained a readership, and those readers asked for more, I made it a trilogy (Zomblog, Zomblog II, and Zomblog: The Final Entry). It is also because of those fans that I have returned to the Zomblog universe and just released the sixth (and FINAL) book in the series on Halloween of 2013: Zomblog: Snoe's Journey. I freely admit that I will sellout my plans to write what the fans ask for.

I really want my DEAD series to be what I am known for, and in the last year, it has really taken off. However, I will say that with the release of the fourth book in the DEAD series (DEAD: Winter), the numbers started to pick up beyond my wildest dreams.

The DEAD series (DEAD: The Ugly Beginning, DEAD: Revelations, and DEAD: Fortunes & Failures, DEAD: Winter, DEAD: Siege & Survival, DEAD: Confrontation, DEAD: Reborn) is scheduled to be a 12 part epic series.

It is told in three rotating chapters. One is from the first person perspective of Steve Hobart, a man thrust into the role of leader for a group of survivors struggling to keep alive. One chapter follows a group of four self-professed zombie “geeks” who initially believe that the zombie apocalypse would be fun and soon discover that it is nothing like the movies. The third of the rotating chapters is called “Vignettes” and is a series of snapshots from all around the world. Some of the vignettes are single chapter episodes, others are continuing threads that carry on for several chapters. A few are merged into the Steve story or the Geek story line.

Last year,I began my horror/comedy series, "That Ghoul Ava" and have found it to be my new guilty pleasure.

Much is made throughout the first two volumes about Snoe’s lineage. While this has been a personal conflict for Snoe, not wanting to be defined by her parent's notoriety, I don’t see where it affected the direction of the story one way or the other. Snoe has more problems dealing with her personal guilt over having to kill humans. She counted them like an Old West gunslinger. Snoe is rather weak when it comes right down to it. Her attacks on Major Carson and the train were the first signs of mettle I had seen from her. Dominique Dubois was way too accessible IMO. People around Snoe begin to trust in her but Snoe is unconvinced. The next volume may lead to a final showdown in Irony but I’m not sure where this will go at this time. The narrator, Jodi Bricker was much more captivating than the previous narrator. I’m glad Brown switched.

Todd Brown does it again in Snoe's War. Be prepared for more action and in-depth tales from Snoe Gainey as she attempts to take on the NAA and an old nemesis. Brown as always paints a great picture of life after the u undead rise. The characters he creates are human with real feelings and problems. Fan s of the series will love this installment and be left with a burning desire to see what is in the next. If you haven't yet read the previous Zomblog books I cannot recommend strong my enough that you do so. Go now read it!!

I've loved this series from the beginning and found Snoe's War to be just as satisfying. It's well written with great characters and is action-packed. With all TW Brown's zombie books, no character is safe - so there is that added tension of not knowing if a character will make it through an intense battle.

I'm sad this series is coming to an end with the next book - but I can't wait to read it and see how it all ends.

This just wasn't up to the standard of the previous books in the series. It read a bit too light on some of the serious, terrible things that were going on, and it didn't convey the emotion necessary to get depth into a format that tells after the fact rather than as you read. Even so, I enjoyed it, and I wonder if there will be a next one in the series...

A nice finish. Tied up some loose ends and got a strange revelation of Snoe's ancestry. The strategies were well planned and effective. I think one of the best parts was the inclusion of a fan written short at the end.

It was a great continuation of the story, but it ended at 60% and the remaining 40% was sneak peeks into a whole different story. Very disappointing to think you have more to read when you really don't. Otherwise it was a great continuation to the other Zomblog stories!!

I loved this book as much as I have loved the others. They are all quick, fun reads. I am excited (and maybe a little sad.) for the conclusion.
