No one ever says, "I want to be a demon when I grow up."

Within every society and species there is a hierarchy. The supernatural is no different. Like all civilizations, the fall of the ruling class begot chaos.

As sentinel of the highest echelon, Talon Cantemir holds one thing dear…family. When the Courtiers threaten his parents’ existence, it’s time their centuries long assumed rule over the small Italian compound—home of the last concentration of supernatural—ended. The White-witch prophecy dubbing, Talon champion of the true rulers’ mortal heir, becomes his raison d’être. But complications abound when he arrives in Arizona: The willful, exotic beauty unaware of her origins or destiny, the sun, and the hybrid rogue wooing the supernaturals salvation, their would-be queen. Amelia.

Life is tragic for Amelia Keeler. People she loves die. In hopes of saving her remaining loved ones, she’s grown cold, distant. Dead inside. Until unholy cravings coupled with a magnetic attraction to two strangers challenge her idea of reality. Their instant rivalry and frightening tales of blood, extinction, and magic place her in the middle of a war she wants no part of.

Yet, Amelia can’t stay away. The terrifying feelings the men who aren’t men at all elicit, endanger their lives and the lives of her friends. Her death has the power to save or condemn them all. But does Amelia possess the strength to lead a secret nation and choose between two loves which call for one to kill her?

Advice most writers receive: Write what you know.

I know darkness. I grew up in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Glendale, Arizona. Knowing the uglier sides of life, there weren’t a lot of options available to me. At least, that’s what the world would have me believe. I could’ve succumbed to the hopelessness and despair that come with having the kind of childhood and adolescence better suited for a Lifetime Channel movie or a cautionary tale. Become a statistic. Or I could allow my past to fuel my creativity.

I devoured anything I could read as an escape. Writing became my calm in the storm. My constant. I published my first book at ten years old. Through college where I studied Social Work, trying to effect change from within the system—I wrote. Modeled a bit. Sang. Became an on-air radio personality. Acted. And still, I wrote. Poetry. Screenplays. Novels. Even placed in the 2010 Beverly Hills Film Festival. All roads lead back to writing. Now, I write dark. Dark paranormal romance. Dark urban fantasy. Psychological and supernatural thrillers. And dark contemporary romance under the pseudonym Wilt Rhys. Because the one thing life’s taught me, everything done in the dark comes to the light.

An honest review..This is my second book by this Author and she doesn't disappoint. She has a way of making you feel the characters grief as well as their highs and lows. Amelia has lost so many loved ones that she feels as if she is cursed. Calin is torn between duty and his other half pulling him to Amelia. Talon knows he needs to keep away from the but the fates keeps him near Amelia. I can't wait for book 2 considering there is another hottest at the door.

Let me start off by saying I want more, and I NEED to know what happens next. I have always loved vampire stories, so I was excited to read this one. I hate that it took me so long to finish it because it was worthy of a binge. Though it is set in contemporary times, there's this whole other underbelly to the world that the author has created, which maintains an element of suspense throughout. Yep, I definitely need the next book!

I bought Dead Inside after a friend suggested I read this book at the same time as him.

Paralysed by grief, Amelia struggles to cope after a series of unexpected deaths in her family. Little does she realise she will very soon transition into the foretold vampire queen, or that two separate factions of vampire are both vying for her life - or death!

Dead Inside was an enjoyable read. It tackled some of the more pernicious aspects of the genre head-on rather than avoiding the difficult questions, such as how vampires get sustenance. Very few of the characters are 'good' by any stretch of the imagination in that they lie, manipulate, or are just fallible. The characters of Calin and Talon lead me into the very awkward position of wanting to support the 'good guys' (as a whole), while secretly liking the bad boy more (what can I say, I really get into what I'm reading!). Certain aspects of the love triangle subplot in the novel seemed a little underdeveloped, but isn't that what a sequel is for?!

While reading I did experience some difficulties which I believe may be to do with the editing. While reading it I often felt that a scene was written a particular way initially, then changed at a later date. I get this impression because at certain points in the novel the characters will refer back to a previous discussion and it will include references that weren't there when I read it.
Another thing was that occasionally the narration would alter from a detached perspective to an engaged perspective, which could be jarring at times.

That said, it's the second half of the book that it really starts to shine. I loved Amelia's realisation about how her behaviour had been affecting everyone close to her and another of the characters snapping and deciding he doesn't care anymore is probably one of the most entertaining breakdowns I've read.

Overall, I do recommend reading if you enjoy the paranormal, it's definitely the most original vampire story I've read in a while. Also, it has a character whose name for his penis is 'THE TERMINATOR'. What's not to love?

Ms Piper Anderson does a Awesome job of taking you on an emotional dramatic journey through a dark paranormal romance...First let me say that this book is well worth the read even if you are not into paranormal romances. I cried, I yelled, I cheered for and at the characters many times while I read this book....This story is GREAT!!!!

Dead Inside is a story about an unknown Vampire Queen Ameila, who must have an "Awakening" to come into what is destine to be her life that was told by The Fates...Amelia is on the verge of her 21st birthday and for the last 3 years has lost so many love ones that she has closed her heart off to everyone so that she doesn't suffer anymore. As her birthday grows close she starts to notice things about her self that makes her uneasy. Then you have Talon (one of The Vampire Royal Guards) who has been chosen to find their lost Queen, take her through the Awakening and bring her back to Italy to restore order for the supernaturals...but then there is Calin (Hybrid:Mortal/Dark Witch-Vampire) that has been chosen by his grandfather to also go find the unknown Queen, take her though the Awakening and then kill her.....Amelia, who is "Dead Inside" meets these sexy, muscle bound walking Gods and what does a girl do...I don't want to give to much away but just know that there is love and lost and choices that have to be made...do you stay ignorant to what is happening around you or believe what is right in front of you( the truth) and follow your heart/destiny....This is going to be the first book in this series so be prepared readers for many questions that will surround you as you read this story...

Thanks Ms Piper for allowing me advance reading :)

I'm on the fence about this one. It took too long for amelia to change into the Queen vampire to me. Amelia had a huge fortress around her heart. I did not feel the chemistry between her and Talon. I felt it more with her and Calin because the story seemed to focus more on their time together than her time with Talon.

Some parts I just skimmed along to hurry up and get to Amelia, Talon or Calin. The other parts about Anton, Calin's sister etc were not necessary to me. If there are more than 5-6 characters to keep up with, I'm lost. It becomes jumbled/blurred and confusing trying to remember who is who and what his/her role is in the story.

This was not what I expected. There were a lot of questions that were not answered, and apparently they will be in the 2nd book. It is definitely different than other books in this genre so I can appreciate that & for that reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. It was different and held my interest for the majority of the story.
