The intrepid ghost hunters of Shibuya Psychic Research are in the middle of their most challenging case an abandoned school that may be haunted by ravenous spirits of the dead. Can Mai, Naru, and the gang solve the case before the wicked spirits strike again—and silence them forever?
Shiho INADA (いなだ 詩穂 in Japanese) was born in Kanagawa Prefecture on October 17. She is a Libran with blood type B. She made her debut with Camouflage in 1994. Her best known work is Ghost Hunt.
Apparently they stopped publishing this series in English with this volume. WHYYYY?! How can you leave all the readers hanging like that, in the middle of dredging a lake for a missing person after finally beginning to hint that some of Naru's secrets would be explained? And teasing about another character's secrets as well? That is such a bitch move, publishers.
And this was such a strong installment, too! Creepy and scary, while at the same time unexpectedly moving in a more philosophical direction, and even being rather emotionally touching.
In some ways I hated this book. Not that it was bad. It was far from that. No, I hated its existence because it represents the end of a series I loved. I can no longer look forward to the next time I’ll get to visit with Naru, Mai, Monk-san and the rest. This is their last adventure.
It picks up where #10 leaves off with the whole team trapped inside an abandoned school, where a school teacher and his students died in a terrible accident. Lin and Ayako had disappeared by the time #11 begins. One by one, the others disappear and fade from their friends’ memories while children suddenly appear as if they had always been there.
I hate spoiling endings for anyone so let me say this; we can consider this Mai’s final arc. She goes from a school girl who bumbled into the team, literally, to being their only hope in the end. But it’s also my favorite conclusion type so that made me happier. Overall, the last story is a good one, a bit talky in places but good. On the negative side, it was supposed to have extras after the story according to the cover but unless they mean the translator notes there’s nothing. Also the art is a little muddy both on the mangka’s end and on Del Rey’s end. The art wasn’t that crisp in many places and on the publisher’s side, there were smears and bleed throughs that really irritated me.
Story wise, the downside was there were a few too many overall plot threads that do go unresolved, notably most of Naru’s past which I kept feeling like we’d get more of some day. Still, it’s a good ending to a very good series. Usually by the end of a series one of two things happens: the stories are so weak we want it to end or, likes this time, you just aren’t ready to say goodbye. Of all the episodic horror manga out there, this is the best for my money. The recurring characters aren’t just props for the monster of the week. They are very much part of the story, well developed and rich. I’ll miss them.

In the past, I have always been rescued by everyone else. This time, I have to save all of them?
This penultimate volume showcased Mai's abilities as a budding medium, with the help of the Naru in her dreams. Albeit scared and alone, Mai was able to face the story arc's main villain and save all her friends.
All in all, the Forgotten Children case is the second creepiest arc next to Urado imo.
Really enjoyable series. Too bad they didn't translate the final volume though! If you can find volumes of this series, definitely pick them up especially if you enjoy supernatural mysteries.
The last two volumes of the manga go one story past the anime adaption, but alas, still leaves much untold. In some ways, its a little more frustrating because it finally brings up Naru's brother, but we're left with many more questions that will remain unanswered as the light novel series has never been licensed :(
There's nothing to be afraid of.These are actually the children. Perhaps, could this be Mariko-chan and Takato-kun? A person has a body and a spirit tخ exist, therefore these children only lack a body. و بعد به اون گاکی اجازه می ده که دستشو بگیره و میگه: See? There's nothing dangerous about them.
خیلی شجاع تر و مهربون تر از اونی بود که تو کل داستان تصور می کردم.
GAH!! This was a good volume!! I really enjoyed this storyline a lot! And I'm happy it came to a close by the end of the volume. As the pages kept getting fewer and fewer, I was getting worried that the story arc would be continued in the last volume that I don't have access to, but I'm so happy it didn't. Of course, I'm dying to know what the real "case" waiting for us back home is, but I'm satisfied with this as a potential ending.
Ghost Hunt is a great series! I do enjoy the anime more than the manga, but it's a fun series with great characters. I wish it was a bit longer, but it is a series that I will enjoy watching and reading over and over. Thanks Love Muffin!!
...Or is it over? That last page... It says on the back of the book "The Last Hunt" but the last page says, "The real 'case' was waiting for us back home."
I loved this volume, but there are a lot of loose ends. What about Naru's brother? What's this "real case" Mai was talking about at the end?
I want to know!
EDIT: I looked it up. Apparently there are 12 volumes but only 11 ever got translated. Why no last volume?
First off, has Shiho Inada's art changed over the series? It seems like the characters in this book were off somehow. I know it sounds weird but were their upper lips longer?
This volume was good but was a little thin and lacked the usual humor. I actually thought this was the last book so I was a little confused and disappointed at the end. But now I see the series ends with volume 12. So... WHEN DOES IT COME OUT IN ENGLISH?
I really liked this storyline - I wish they would've made it in the animu.
More importantly
I hate that this ends on a cliffhanger, because I'll probably never buy book 12 in Japanese...well, I take that back. I might buy books 10-12 in Japanese, but it's lower on my priorities list. :o Loveless and D.Gray-man are going to come first. <3
But I really liked the storyline - the art was effective - and even if I hate Mai, I really liked how things were woven together in the end.
If it has been a while since you read Volume 10 I highly suggest rereading it before starting this one. Volume 11 picks up right where 10 left off, right in the middle of the story. This story is sneaky and will surprise you.
I love the story line but the ending. I think the other should go more into the relationship between Mia and Naru. (Spoiler ahead) I Also like how Naru is Oliver Davis. And the Naru in Mia's dream was Naru's twin brother.
