The Time Pearls #3

Courting A Modern Lady

Rate this book
Widower Edwin Halford has lived a tranquil existence seeing to his estate and raising his daughter. Now that his late brother has left him the title Duke of Avendesh and all the responsibilities it entails, Edwin struggles to navigate his new duties.

A meager income has kept Diana Rodriguez from following in her parents’ footsteps helping children in need. While attending the wedding of her best friend and the man who crossed time to be with her, Diana seizes the opportunity to befriend Juliana, the spirited seven-year-old niece of the former duke, who has participated in her own time-traveling escapades.

Diana’s child-tending skills are put to the test when the wedding is crashed by time pearl thieves, and she and Juliana are transported to 1816. With the pearl missing, Diana has no choice but to stay with the girl and her father until the cursed heirloom can be recovered.

As Edwin comes to know Diana, his heart opens to the possibility of love, and he finds the modern lady’s zeal for life buoying him out of troubled waters. But the final effort to retrieve the pearls and destroy them proves dangerous for all involved and places more than Edwin and Diana’s hearts on the line.

“Why was the idea of being rescued and carried by a man in a waistcoat so delicious?”

* One chapter in and I’m already in love with Edwin
* Diana is delightful! And hilarious 😂
* Dang. Everything about these pearls is just coming out now!
* Why must men be so thick?
* But also awwww

Basically? Love. I loved this! It was such a great conclusion to the series!

Diana is so funny. I’ve loved her character from the beginning and it was so fun to watch her interact with Juliana and then to try and navigate life in the past. Especially as someone who really knows nothing about the time period. 😂

Edwin is such a sweetie. He’s dumb, of course. But he comes around. And I loved how much he loved his daughter.

Everything with the pearls was wrapped up nicely and I just want to say I totally called some of the things about who/why the pearls were even a thing.

In conclusion, LOVE!

Thank you to the author for this ARC! All opinions are my own.

This is the first time travel regency I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! Edwin and Diana were so sweet together and Juliana was just delightful! It was nice to see how Edwin struggled with his grief from losing his wife and how that impacted his developing feelings for Diana.

This is a clean regency romance with mild violence and no language (save for regency appropriate such as “blast” and a single reference to “damning”)

a beautiful tapestry of regency and modern characters.

One of the highlights for me was definitely the relationship both of the main characters had with Julianna. Edwin dotes on his daughter but feels like he's failing her. Diana can't help but love Julianna. The friendship that forms between Edwin and Diana is so fun to watch, as she pushes him out of his comfort zone and he supports her.

Oooo was I DYING to read Edwin's story so I lapped this book up like a thirsty puppy! See, Edwin, being the second son, didn't inherit a title and estate and that was just dandy as far as he was concerned. Except he did.... and he was ill prepared for the role of Duke that was thrust upon him. Before you start scratching your head in confusion, firstly, READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS, and secondly, the true heir and Duke, his brother, gave it all up for love. Now how romantic is that???

This book starts off with both Edwin and Diana fending off the wolves, he, the meddling mother grundie who insist on setting him up with a wife, and Diana, her impending financial situation. Right off the bat, both sets of emotions filter through, right to MY heart! And there's this sweet little girl, who's rather strong willed.... I love how precocious Julianna is! My kinda little girl, sassy, spunky and oh so adorable! And a handful.... And she decides she's missing her uncle.... yep, you can imagine what happens next! A mad scramble by Edwin, who is desperate to find his missing daughter, said daughter who refuses NOT to attend a very important wedding, a very enigmatic housekeeper who knows a heck of a lot more than she should, and a quick twist of a pearl takes Edwin to the future. A future that comes with all sorts of dangers, there are still those that will do anything to lay their hands on these pearls. Gosh was my heart in my throat in some of the scenes!

But back to Edwin, Edwin is the epitome of the perfect gentleman, he's just adorable, I was in love with his character from the moment I met him. Edwin is also so obstinately stubborn in refusing to relinquish the grief he feels at the loss of his wife. But geez, it WAS 9 years ago.... although it's beautiful to see a love so pure as he had that he couldn't move on. Until Diana that is....the sweet romance that was brewing exploded in his face so spectacularly! She's another character that's so easy to like, she doesn't mince her words, she knows what she wants, well, kinda, and she's the best friend anyone could have. She's so fun living! I loved the to and fro of the banter and the denial and, ultimately, the realisation. So earnestly depicted, the gravity of the dangers couldn't hold back the emotional turmoil, the intense feelings. I was sighing in delight, well, when I wasn't in total despair for them! What a beautiful beautiful romance, what a dramatic turn of events, what heart stopping action! What a gorgeous read! Both worlds, past and present are so authentic, the reactions of the characters so on point, it's no wonder I was delighted! And this glorious read had the perfect pacing, moving me through both worlds extraordinarily well.

The burning question I had from the prior book, is, WHO is Mrs Bielle? A character that delighted me the moment she appeared and shrouded in more concealment and unknown than trying to discover a way into Fort Knox! I adore her spunk and familiarity with both present and past but geez, did I yearn for HER story! Soooo interesting, it was boring a hole in my skull wanting to know more of her. Ms Losee lines the path with red herrings so I'm going, oh she's...no, she's...but when I find out exactly who Mrs Bielle is, you could have blown me over with a feather! I loved the hidden aspects slowly crystallising, the full picture unfolding before my eyes. Heck, THIS is one series that took control of me and I honestly was sad to say goodbye to these fabulous characters, this magnificence of the story and the superb writing skills of this author.

I cannot express this strongly enough, EVERY SINGLE BOOK I've read by this esteemed author has ALWAYS plastered a smile across my face, a smile that, at times, erupted into sheer blissful laughter. And that's just it, the bliss, the warmth, the JOY I feel reading ANY of Ms Loser's books is truly unparalleled.

Edwin feels the pressures of running the house and the lands that his brother left him. Not that he is bitter about his brother following his passion and love of his life Maggie but it put certain burdens on him. The biggest one that society is making a priority is him finding a new wife and producing a male heir which he feels is a betrayal of his vows from his previous marriage and his daughter. And getting his brother to reclaim his rightful title is out of the question since he time traveled to the future. Which he still doesn’t quite believe. But when his daughter goes missing and the ever enigmatic Mrs. Bielle says that all is well barely keeps him calm. Diana doesn't fully believe the trouble her best friend Maggie claims a set of magic pearls has brought on her. But she has never seen her happier than when she is with Luke, an apparent duke from Victorian England. She is inbound to help with the wedding, and looking forward to a distraction from the issues popping up in her life, when she is all of a sudden tasked with watching Luke’s niece Juliana who unexpectedly showed up. Unfortunately she isn’t the only one who crashed the wedding and while trying to protect Juliana they end up in the past. Both Diana and Edwin realize the dangers the pearls possess and are desperate to find the missing pearl and return Diana to her time. However, as they spend more time together the harder the parting will be. Diana clearly doesn’t belong in the past even though they make her feel like family but is staying even an option when danger is stalking them and the pearls they are holding onto?

Book 3 and conclusion to this series and it doesn’t disappoint for me. We get to see all the characters from the previous books make an appearance and get answers to what is up with Mrs. Bielle. We also get answers to the pearls themselves and how they were created and passed down to Maggie’s family. I can understand and enjoy the struggles that both Edwin and Diana face in this story and how they end up healing each other. Juliana is mischievous but not in a bad way, just in her trying to get what she wants as any child does. Definitely a sweet end to this series.

“If I have to be stuck in the past, I’m glad it’s with you.”

Noble Edwin Halford sees to his estate and raising his dear daughter. With his older brother leaving him the title Duke of Avendesh and all the responsibilities it entails, Edwin has struggled to navigate his new duties.

A meager income has kept determined and kind Diana Rodriguez from following in her parents’ footsteps helping children in need. While attending the wedding of her best friend and the man who crossed time to be with her, Diana seizes an opportunity to befriend Juliana, the spirited seven-year-old niece of the former duke, who has participated in her own time-traveling escapades. Diana’s child-tending skills are put to the test when the wedding is crashed by time pearl thieves, and she and Juliana are transported back in time to the year 1816. With the pearl missing, Diana has no choice but to stay with the girl and her father until the cursed heirloom can be recovered. But as Edwin comes to know Diana, his heart opens to the possibility of love, and he finds the modern lady’s zeal for life buoying him out of troubled waters. However the final effort to retrieve the pearls and destroy them proves dangerous for all involved and places more than Edwin and Diana’s hearts on the line...

“Love creeps into one’s life when least expected. Attacks us unsuspecting and often unwilling participants.”

@brookejlosee this dear story combines a beautiful tapestry of such endearing regency and relatable modern characters in this time travel romance adventure. It is filled tenderly with swoony romance, delightful humor, dear friendship, some action, moments of suspense, mild violence, mystery, and no language. It’s a story that can be read as a stand alone but, the whole series is good!

“The truth is, you make me happy. You give me more reason to smile, to look forward to the future without a shadow of sorrow.”

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it will not be my last! Excellent storyline and plot. Even though this was the third in the series, you can read it as a stand alone (but I will be checking out the other books too!). Swoony romantic moments that leave you sighing and laugh out loud moments that you feel the second hand embarrassment for. The characters were relatable and lovely. Our modern lady was so brave and selfless and our regency man was smitten (even if he didn’t want to admit it). I loved the mystery and suspense as well, very well written. The ending was *chefs kiss*. Thank you for writing a wonderful story!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 3 in The Time Pearls Series and can be read as a standalone, though the reader experience is better if you've read the previous books. Courting A Modern Lady is told through Diana and Edwin's pov and is a clean and sweet story about two opposites falling in love.

CW: grief and pg-13 level violence
Spice: kisses that don't get too heated

I had been waiting for Edwin's story and it didn't disappoint. Because of the loss he experienced, he was bit withdrawn from the rest of the world but he loved his daughter fiercely. When his paths crossed with Diana, he found himself challenged. Being thrust to the past, Diana had to adjust and I liked how she did her best - even when she was missing the convenience of the future. She had a way of endearing herself to others, including Edwin's daughter. I loved the bond that they formed and how that made Diana and Edwin become closer. Due to the nature of their situation and Edwin's feelings about finding new love, their romance was a slow burn with a tiny dash of angst but it's all worth it. Aside from the romance, I liked how questions readers had been asking were answered and the loose ends were tied up nicely. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and series and look forward to reading the author's next work.
