Six years, that’s how long Wun has loved Yenn, his best friend's older brother. Three years ago, a timid person like him was brave enough to confess his feelings—only to be rejected. While his heart shattered into pieces, the attractive, alluring Yenn revealed he would be open to a casual relationship. Naïve and hopeful, Wun agreed, clinging to whatever he could—until he realized that the love he wants cannot be obtained by utilizing the desire Yenn has for his body. And thus, their empty relationship ended like it never happened. Heartbroken, for the next two years, Wun tried to stay away from his unrequited love, resolved to not give away his body so easily again.
Lately, his resolution is weakening . . .
Convinced by his best friend to go take care of Yenn who recently suffered a broken wrist, Wun didn't expect it to be a daily thing that would turn nightly. Truly, he’s doing this favor for his best friend, out of pity and for pity only, not anything else—at least that’s what he tells himself.
With the handsome, sly, teasing man he loves so close—close as in their breaths are bouncing off each other’s faces—how is he going to stay strong and not fall back into the same routine? What has to happen for the man he loves to finally love him back? Will there ever be a day? Or is he just deceiving himself again?
‘I Live Timid I Love Bravely’ is a sweet and sensual Thai BL, M/M romance novel about a timid person loving someone he sees out of his league. Expect heavy steam, fierce kinky moments, and overly sweet interactions as two love fools find their way to be together.
I am the girl who stayed up until 5am for “One More Chapter”. This was so good. Nothing was lost to me through the translation As someone who enjoys Thai BL shows, I fell head first in love with these two. It was adorable and OMG, the spice y’all 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Top notch. I honestly re-read a few of those, horny jail be damned 🤤🤤🤤. This is legit one of the cutest BLs I’ve read in a while🥰🥰
Having watched a couple of BL series on VIKI and found the fade to black at the merest hint of anything more intimate than a kiss, I was very surprised aT the steamy scenes in ‘ I Live Timidly I love Bravely’. An excellent read.
Bai Bai, the author has written a good storyline with great character development. I’ll not attempt writing the full names of these Thai families, there are so long. The MC’s and I’m going to say there are 4, but Wunsook and Jaiyenn take centre stage with Jaiyenn’s brother Donthree and his husband Singh having a huge part in this story.
Wunsook grew up in close proximity with his best friend Donthree’s family. He fell in love with his older brother Jaiyenn. He was rejected but Jaiyenn said he be happy to just have a physical relationship with him.
This was fine with Wunsook for a short while but he wanted more and when he knew it wasn’t going to happen he withdrew and didn’t is it the family again. He just continued to meet Donthree and his friend Singh elsewhere. The title of this book fits Wunsook exactly.
Six years later Wunsook attends Donthree and Singh’s wedding and of course he sees Jaiyenn who makes a point of joining Wunsook who sits alone at a table.
Jaiyenn behaves very differently to Wunsook and shows more interest and continues to seek his company until Wunsook finds himself sinking back into the same pattern as 6 years before. He’s still in love with Jaiyenn who still calls him little brother, to Wunsook’s annoyance, but no sign of commitment to a relationship or indication of having feelings for Wunsook. Jaiyenn even starts calling him his wife.
Both of them have reasons for their expectations or lack thereof and it takes a good part of these pages to get to the bottom of it before they decide their next step. Wunsook doesn’t make it an easy journey for Jaiyenn either. Rightly so.
I love finding a book that is set in a completely different culture and I completely engaged with Wunsook straight away, it took a bit longer with Jaiyenn. It was clear that Wunsook is gay and in later chapters when Jaiyenn is thinking about his relationships in the past, I thought he might be on a different point of the sexuality spectrum, where he doesn’t connect emotionally. I don’t know how that is represented on the LGBTQIA spectrum, if at all.
There is miscommunication, some deliberate, jealousy, lots of steam, some bordering on mild BDSM.
Bai Bai is a new author for me and I see they have several books to their credit, this one is a standalone e, the others are short series, maybe 3 Volumes in each. From there reviews they seem to me to be grittier than, ‘ I Live Timid I Love Bravely’.
This book was unputdownable mostly because I needed to know if the sweet MC (Wunsook) finally finds the love he very much deserves. I had mixed feelings about the ML (Phi Yenn) because it felt like he was taking advantage of Wun over and over again- with possible dub con. This is only my second Thai BL novel but I've watched a few Thai BL dramas and get some of the same vibes. Thankfully there is a happy ending with redemption but you will experience heartache along the way! There is A LOT of spice, so if you're not okay with that- skip this one!
✔️ Unrequited love ✔️ Angst ✔️🌶🌶🌶 ✔️ Warm-hearted/affectionate friendships
I wish I could erase this book from my mind and start over … I LOVE it. I’m obsessed with it and I think I will start over. Read a friends copy, but I plan on buying the physical and ebook. Hope this author continues novels, especially ones like this . The dedication to love is just amazing .
2.5 / 5:In the future, I don't expect perfection. Just spending each day with Phi Yenn is enough for me. Whether it be a sweet or bitter day.
oh, wun….. :’)
wun has my whole heart and yenn makes him happy—which is great (🫠). but because i care about wun a lot, i also feel really conflicted on how yenn expressed his feelings at times….i understand love is a scary thing and it makes people act in faulty ways, but the way yenn acted towards wun sometimes lowered any contentment i may have with the story. even when wun seemed to like yenn in all his possessiveness, it was just a complete turn off for me.
there was some charm on yenn’s end, and his constant teasing added to the playful atmosphere between him & wun; an atmosphere that put wun at ease and made him feel comfortable having someone who pays so much attention to him. there were just a few moments where the most toxic traits of yenn’s character reared its head, and i don’t know how to feel about it….it was honestly disorienting the amount of times wun seemed to be led on by yenn’s romantic side, and then yenn would unleash a wall between them with his confusing behavior.
what i do know is that i stayed majorly for wun, who’s incredibly soft and earnest in his feelings. he has such a way with words, and he truly is one brave character for the way he validates himself and his feelings. i loved the way this story started with wun’s introduction. there was so much sadness and yearning in his character, and i think that’s one facet of the story that i loved a lot. he wishes to be cared for and he wants the love he’s found in yenn to become real. if yenn really makes him happy, good for him—they did have some really sweet moments together. i especially liked that scene they had together at yenn’s family home where they talked about the stars…that was nice. but still, i feel mixed.
this was my first thai bl, and the one good impression i can take away from it is that the main character has the strongest voice, and so we’ll see what it looks like in other works. i liked wun’s friendship with his college best friend, donthree the most. their scenes together were few and far in between, but there was a sweetness in how much they bantered and clearly wished to protect each other. that, i appreciated a lot.
the sex……we don’t talk about it (didn’t like it)

What an emotional rollercoaster. I love Thai BL so finding this book was an obvious read. It had all the classic Thai BL tropes of long lasting unrequited love and 0 communication. Although not as unrequited as either of our two leads believe. Wun is a cutie in love with his best friends Phi Yenn. Wun decides the best way to deal with this is to have multiple spicy times with this man. Yenn of course loves him back but doesn't even realise it himself until he gets all horned up and jealous over Wun even breathing the same air as another man. I love that once Yenn reveals his feelings he just wants to announce to the world his little nong Wen is his forever. Absolutely loved it but boy do these men need to learn how to communicate. Although if a man fucked me the way Yenn fucked Wun I would stay silent and take it happily too. Love it
This is a sweet story from Thailand, or set in Thailand. The author is chinese and grew up in Thailand and now lives in the US, so there. I enjoy Wun (pronounced One) and Yenn. Yenn is a bit possessive and that works for Wun.
Wun is a recluse. He works from home and has a small circle of friends. He's been in love with Yenn for six years now. It has been unrequited. Yenn is sex years older. He is the brother of Wun's best friend, Three. Yenn is a high powered lawyer. They do have a past together. Wun confessed to Yenn in the past and Yenn made it clear he wasn't interested.
So, they meet at Three's wedding again and the story takes off.
The biggest issue with this story is the Grammar. It's rough. The tenses don't match and it needs a really good editor. There are man times the author uses the word fasten in the context of going faster. There are all sorts of things like that. Sentences missing words or too many. It may be a mess, but I read the story in two days.
Seeing some more Thai society was interesting. I'm not sure I'll read more by this author. It was good. IF I do, I'll just get the Kindle version and not a paper copy.
I enjoyed the characters and the straight forward sweet story. It was nice.
I read one chapter. Not even a whole chapter, I dipped out after the phone call with best buddy(tm), because by that point I already knew everything I needed to know.
The writing isn’t good - it’s stilted and jarring, juvenile in a way that makes me think of poorly written fanfiction. I might (MIGHT) have been able to ignore that, except the characters, and in particular the main character, are tremendously flat and uninteresting, more like caricatures than real people. And as if all that weren’t enough, the opening act of the story is already, within the first handful of pages, unbearably contrived and melodramatic.
I cannot. I don’t have the strength, and even if I did, I love myself too much to make myself suffer like this.
If you're a fan of Thai BL dramas, this novel reads like a TV drama, minus the censoring props. I really enjoyed the story for the most part, though some of the 18+ scenes were detailed a bit much for my taste. As is the case with a lot of Thai BL dramas, the relationships are toxic for the most part, but for some reason they draw you in. The sexual dependence of the story was also a bit much, but reminded me of a few of the dramas I've watched before. There were also plenty of silly, giggly moments that made me feel like I was watching just another drama. It's a somewhat guilty pleasure.
Definitely lost sleep with this one. The writing style took some time to get used to. I did enjoy the fact that the end of a chapter was not necessarily the end of that scene, that the scenes would often continue on in the next chapter. It gives you the satisfaction of having finished a chapter, but the desire to keep reading until the close of the scene. Brilliant.
I loved this story. The characters were well written. Not over or under developed. A possible real life love story. ❤ . Looking forward to other work by this author 😀.
Looking for an easy quick read? You've found it. If you're looking for deep characters, an elaborate plot and good writing though, this isn't it. There was also way too much smut imo and I didn't enjoy the "Papa" at all.
I really enjoyed the story. In fact, it would make a great BL series. You hear me the powers that be. In fact, as I was reading it, I was picturing a BL couple that I like Fort and Peat with Peat being Wun. I am glad I bought the book.
The sentence structure and grammatical errors need to be cleaned up. This could have been a smoother read with a better English translation, but I still enjoyed it.
Excluding the ending that was resolved too quickly, in my opinion, this is an excellent and very erotic gay romance. I love that the author included a note at the beginning clearly stating that love is between the people in the relationship. Their terms of endearment and the status of their relationship is their business. The story bears that out with the best friends being written in such a way that they have to step back and let the MCs find their own way to loving each other.
I will wrap up this review with my favorite Thai BL tropes from the story: *one-sided love *numerous mentions of traffic delays in Thailand *unexpected sleepovers so he has to wear the other's oversized clothes *taking care of a sick and injured love interest *"getting clean" by playing in a water hose scene (This is the first time I found this is in a novel!) *passenger feeds the driver (I have no idea why I love this scenario so much, but it is real favorite of mine.)
Content warning: very graphic sex scenes; consensual forced sex
such a fun, light little read with minimal plot, yet still well-written.
I fell so in love with the main character; he’s adorable and relatable but somewhat of a doormat, and at times, I didn’t like the male lead; he was quite insufferable. I feel like the plot could have been more focused on, besides the smut, but who am I kidding? I was in it for the smut.
this had so much potential, but once again, it was a light read, so I didn’t have high expectations.
