Not my favorite book, but I forced myself to read it since it's a Korean classic. Is it good? I guess so but it's 3stars for me. I love the historical background with all those independence movement in the countryside, but this kind of romance is not my cup of tea. It's easier to read than other classics like 별or 메밀꽃 필 무렵, so if you are looking for a easy book in the Korean classic genre, give this book a try.
Spoilers He girl 영신 and the boy 동혁 are both working in 농촌계몽운동 or 브나로드운동, to be precise. They teach the farmers, young children of farmers how to read, write, and so on. They work in different towns, they just met at a ceremony(i think it was 동아일보's since they led 브나로드) they meet, start liking each other, and start seeing each other. They send letters, and sometime visits each other to “help”. A lot goes on-it was a crazy time in Korea. Then the girl gets sick and dies during their engagement.
